The G LOUNGE OPENING PHILADELPHIA – VIP PARTY
Philly really is the Sixth Boro and with the opening of G Lounge, clubbing has entered a new and exciting era.
Philly boy Mark Marek’s ( The club is owned and designed by Mark, and Dino Minelli, former partner and GM of Luke & Leroy in New York), single-letter lounge, which shares a street address with Italian steakhouse Davio’s. At roughly 10,000 square feet, the 400-head-capacity space will feature two full-service bars and an ever-evolving atmosphere, thanks to innovations like movable wall panels and “electronic wallpaper,” projection technology that can change the mood of the lounge in a few clicks. An array of small plates sourced from Davio’s will include cold seafood (oysters on the half shell, tequila lime gravlax) and a selection of sliders (pulled chicken, braised beef short ribs, jumbo lump crab). Marek, who comes from a background in luxury jewelry, wants G to fill what he characterizes as a void in the city’s high-end nightlife destinations. (City Paper)
ekk I forget his name, but my girl Laura Burkhardt will tell me, here she is with PR Guru Nicole Cashman of Cashman & Associates who were in charge of throwing down one heck of a good party last night at the G Lounge – Below Davios in the Provident Bank Building, 111 S. 17th St.
The official description: “With a backdrop of wood, porcelain, glass and stone, G features over 10,000 square feet of pristine space. Two full-service bars offer artistic signature cocktails designed exclusively for G by renowned “Modern Mixologist” Tony Abou-Ganim, who has also designed menus for all 22 bars at the Bellagio, Las Vegas Resort. Abou-Ganim incorporated the sensual vibe of G with his knowledge of spirits, inventing drinks such as the Pineapple-Ginger Mojito, containing homemade ginger syrup, the Very Sexy, an ode to the feel of the lounge, with Belvedere Citrus Vodka, berries and champagne, and the Cable Car, with cinnamon and sugar flavors. I ran into a lot of friends, starting with Mara Toukatly, Fairmount’s Republican City Committeewoman (but she is much more than that, I really enjoy her company, call me let’s do lunch Mara!) and Adam Taxin, Esq and radio talk show host (I wonder if he’s related to my neighbor Phyllis Taxin?)
The lounge’s space is so versatile it transforms to create multiple rooms for entertaining several events at once. Two private lounges sit inside G to cater to those looking for a more intimate setting. The Mogul Room, accessible through a G membership, allows for business savvy persons to unwind and relax in luxurious comfort and style.

The VIP Lounge occupies 1,100 square feet, with room for 50 guests to recline across plush seating, sip premium cocktails and taste G’s mouth-watering cuisine. With views of the 110 foot runway that extends through G, the VIP lounge is a room desired by all.

Still not sure if there was a dance floor, there was a DJ and people seemed to just dance where ever they darn well pleased, especially after 2 hours of the open bar. (I decided not to share with the viewing audience the next series of photos, let’s just say if these two end up stealing peoples identities and making a fortune, I will make a fortune when they are caught)

Looks like a pretty lame crowd if i\’m being honest. A bunch of people who wont ever be regulars and a lot of misplaced people. Have all the cool people in Philly retired from clubs or gone to rehab? I retired going to these clubs at 35 and a great looking place only goes so far
The place is the bomb! Just a few of the pluses include a high-end atmosphere (the electro light wall adds tons of energy – you\’ve NEVER seen anything like it), strong drinks by attentive and fun bartenders, the dj seemed to have everyone\’s favorite song on tap, and plenty of places to perch for seeing and being seen…What more can you ask for?!…Can\’t believe rantingchick was at the same place. If you can find a hotter spot in Philly (that\’s where we all live by the way – rep your city) please do share.
I deleted ranting chicks negative diatribe, even though her basic complaint was we are not NYC, and never will be. I thought it should have been more concise than 6 paragraphs.
Nicely done! The G lounge looks hott. I don\’t see a single compromise in the design and the place is fulll of cool philly people. If I wanted New York, I would go ninety minutes north.
I was there last night. It was a lot of fun, great rooms to hang out and actually hear what your companion is saying. Drinks are good and priced about the same as other places.

As I said never been but from pics I\’ve seen that seems like a pretty decent spot also. No hate just wondering as I do not do the club scene at all anymore yet I do enjoy seeing quality spots of any type open up in my fair city.
I like Denin, and now I have been to G lounge, thankfully the City is big enough that I can enjoy both places, and the other spots I like too. I will still go to the Continental, although sometimes it gets too crowded.
Great event. A true success story for one of the biggest openings this winter! The staff was great, the guests were a mix of the usual offenders plus some great new faces. Way to go Mark!

Use the phrase \”the sixth borough\” in my presence, though, and you\’re toast. While we could use a little more New Yorkness, God forbid we should ever become a clone of that place. Our small-town-ness may feel stifling at times, but it\’s also one of the things that make this place unique.

Wow… another \’luxe lounge\’… with more weak drinks that all claim to be unique… and more DJ\’s… all playing the same sh*t – but in a different mix – how chic.

Ok, Ok. I was here the other night and let\’s just say the place gets a big titties~n~ass. That\’s right. I\’ve been to a few places in my time and I can honestly say that as I get a bit older (30\’s) you need a bit of sophistication and quality in your nightlife. Nuf said. But…you also need the Lil\’ hookas that make the night a success. What you get at the \’G\’ is a reprieve from the attitude, a fresh supply of eye candy and music that will treat you like you\’re not an MTV addict. I met a partner named Dino and he\’s cool as cream taking care of whatever we needed. And we definitely ain\’t your typical hedge-fund prick. Dino knows that a successful club involves a diverse mix of characters and surprising elements to keep it interesting. And I sure as hell need diversity to keep things cool.
A lot of clubs/bars are lame. We know this. But I\’m welcoming this new watering hole w/ a wide-open mouth. Playas.
I\’ve been to G Lounge a bunch of times. It started out great…but recently the music has sucked. And I was appalled at the treatment I received from a bartender – he yelled at me for questioning the reason why the drinks I was ordering were $5 more the second time around. They also charged a tip on my sister\’s credit card which was more than what she had written on the receipt. This is enough for me to never go again!
I went to the G Lounge for my friends birthday over the weekend and paid $100 for 3 drinks. This place is embarrassing dont waste your time or money. Your not Studio 54 get over it….
SIXTH BORO?!?!?! HAHAHAHA Get a grip…Philly is not NYC people need to stop acting like it is with over priced drinks…I grew up in Philly and love it..I have lived in NYC for 6 years now..and it isnt even close for good or bad.
this place is hot next best party compared to the hot clubs in LA.

I have been to some of the hottest clubs in NY, Vegas, LA, Ibiza, Munich….well, i guess they think they are such an awesome club, that you can get kicked out for doing absolutely nothing! lets see, come in have a couple of drinks, go out side, come back in, go to the bathroom, come out, get approached by the security guy, and be told you are drunk and have to get some air, to which you respond you are not, but cooperate anyway, and THEN when you are outside, be told you can\’t go back in. well, guess what…my American express giant tab will get disputed….enjoy!
