The new improved Strongbox is open and you can see it here: http://www.phillychitchat.com/2009/09/strongbox-back-and-better-than-ever.html
There’s a new kid in town, an upscale VIP site that speaks to a man’s inner soul and it’s name is Philadelphia Thrillist; Last week Philadelphia Thrillist did a great write up of the new super exclusive luxe lounge in town STRONGBOX, a new VIP Lounge catering to the upscale crowd of Philadelphia including a visit by Gerard Butler and friends on opening night (our venue will be hypersensitive when deciding who is good enough to pass through the door each night. ).
Here’s what Thrillist had to say:
Even in the direst times, there are certain things you can’t give up, like cable television, and visits to the dentist because of all the Swedish Fish consumed while watching cable television. If you stubbornly refuse to give up bottle service, hit up Strongbox.
With Strongbox, the Denim/Pearl guys have converted the former Monkey Bar into a plum-hued bottle-service lounge, luxing things up while maintaining the centuries-old space’s integrity: black leather banquettes, a granite-topped bar, and a back lit, metallic booze wall, paired off against refinished parquet floors (w/ antique heat registers) and high-gloss black paint to enhance the intricate ceiling designs and sharply contrast the cylindrical chandeliers.
While cocktails flow at the front bar, the joint’s centered around seven wood-based, steel-legged cubical tables with inset lighting glowing through plexiglass tops, where “personal attendants” provide ice/mixers/fresh fruit to complement top-shelf liquor and champagne (Perrier-Jouët, Moët White Star, Dom…) available by the 750ml, magnum, jeroboam, or Methuselah — who in Leviticus 3:12 credited his 969-year lifespan to six liters of bubbly daily.
A semi-private, chandeliered back room’s available for reservation, perched slightly above the rest of the lounge, with a window-sized gap in the front wall that perfectly frames a view of the spot’s clientele — just like TV, except there’s no Swedish Fish service.
(End of their article – Thanks www.Thrillist.com)
Interior designer of STRONGBOX Moore College of Art and design student Autumn Oser. I think she did an amazing job; those tables, her creation.
Not since the days of Prohibition has a $200 bottle of gin been such a hot property. Bottle service has become de rigeuer for Philly’s hot clubs, which charge triple-digit prices for a bottle of liquor with mixers. Of course, no one’s dropping that kind of bank for the booze. You’re not paying for the bottle, You’re paying for the location, the atmosphere and the company you keep. Bottle service gets you a guarantee in at the hottest clubs in Philly, gets you a table, a seat and a view of the action.
In the past couple weeks I’ve stopped by the G Lounge where someone dropped $1000 to get a table next to Jamie Foxx (who last night I heard stopped by Denin w/sister, Charlie Mack & friends); a few weeks before that I was at Pearl where it cost $500 to sit in the high back banquette, but it’s worth it as the club was so pack from all the S&M non-bottle buyers you really need your own space, and now there’s the intimate (100 person capacity) Strongbox who’s bottle service begins at an economic $400 (now remember that $400 a table divided by 4 – 5 of your closest friends)
But there’s plenty of room to hang out at the bar too, let Mike or Stephanie get you a drink
Mike Bruner, Lysee Axelrod, Samantha Blackburn and Hal Greenblatt
Jamie Wolf, Chuck Peruto, Jr. Marissa Frommer, co-owner Brett Perloff and Alise Kuhl
Audrey Lehr, Samantha Rash, Erica Capten and Chelsea Moshey
The Main Room features a spacious communal area, a thunderous sound system, and plasma video on the wall that lights up the room with awe-inspiring visuals. With nearly 30 foot long bar, you will rarely have to wait long for a drinks.
Danielle Poe, Erin Elmore and Tal Jacobson get into the grove
Priscilla and Frank Bardanaro, sexy Sabrina Strickland and magic fingers Aly Green
Diony and Dana enjoy the night
Jared and Dara Lazaroff, Tal Jacobsen, Jill Braunstein and Sabrina Strickland.
Marni Synder, Sharief, Leigh Anne Burke and Alison Otterbein
Man about town (NYC & PHILLY) ArthurKade spent the night fending off the women who either wanted to congratulate him, be mentioned on the Arthur Kade blog or help end his drought. This girl wanted a photograph of herself on his blog, but I guess she will have to settle for mine at the moment. Arthur had to dash off as he had an early call on the movie set of SALT, starring Angelina Jolie.
STRONGBOX Message: The single most important factor is, without a doubt……….the people. With that in mind, our venue will be hypersensitive when deciding who will pass through the door each night. While the standards may be higher on a Saturday than a Wednesday, know this: There will always be standards. We understand and champion the notion that our product is very much about who you are standing next to and who you can see from across the room.

Jared Poe met his VIP for the night Samantha Rizzo. I caught them as they were trying to sneak out the door and continue the party elsewhere.
I peered out the window just in time to see the next VIP’s arrive. With them came a few of the actors and crew from Air Bender. I guess they didn’t all fly to Iceland.
Aly Green greets her new friend Tim Connolly, stunt double for Gerard Butler. Tim tells me that neither Gerry nor he has had a famous Philly’s Cheese steak as they are on a strict diet, one for the nude scene that Gerry had just filmed that evening in New Hope, 2) for an upcoming movie where he needs to be buff. If you’ve seen Gerry lately, I have a feeling that Tim will be standing in for him for a lot more scene’s as Tim is BUFF, in fact the body you see in Daredevil is not Ben Affleck but Tim. Tim also played Gerry’s dad in 300. Overheard that night was a few girls telling Tim that he was better looking than Gerry, at which point Tim said I don’t want to hear any of that. He knows where his bread is buttered.

To the person who mentioned the Just Jared thread, it‘s the second Jan. 11 thread titled Art of Elysium.
…“take the ones ~women~ he want’s and keep them captive on a desert island”
I hope the camel is there to kick him if he gets out of hand.
Enough with camel already. I think there is a sparring match going on between posters. Very funny though. ya, thats try and get this to 300 just for frat boy gerry.
I\’m sending a huge hug to Hughe just for putting up with us. Love!
I am sure the ones that are making it crude are from GBGals. They are strange women.
I agree with the above. Although the irony would have been fun to get the posts up to \”300\”. But I don\’t think I can take anymore. I started our being a huge Gerry fan, now I just as soon slap him as to meet him – please say something good Hugh!
I went to Just Jared and looked up the thread that was mentioned. And so, what now we are supposed to believe he has Hepatitis B becuase she said so. GET REAL!. What do you think, we are idiots. Sounds like another bitter person to me. If he was that sick he could not get insured to do movies. He is not the first actor to be a ladies man, and play the field. Today there are just as many actresses/celebrities who play the field. Does anyone out there remember the stories about Jack Nicolson and Warren Beatty, how much womenizing they did. It\’s legendary in Hollywood. Didn\’t Cary Simon write the song You\’re So Vain about Warren Beatty? Gerard Butler is not the first nor will he be the last ladies man in Hollywood. You can look back to the 1930\’s and on up. They all seem to settle down and get married sooner or later. A lot get divorced too. I thought most people were used to this by now. Tommorrow there will be another actor or actress to gossip about. That industry thrieves on it. Just look at what\’s been going on here.
I wouln\’t stop being a fan, just because of the things people have written here. I will still enjoy his movies, the ones that I like.I don\’t like them all. If you stopped liking an actor or actress because of hearsay, like what you have been readingon these blogs. Well I guess you will never be able to go to the movies or sit and enjoy a movie in your living room. My husband just bought Rock n Rolla on Blu Ray, we are not going to be taking it back anytime soon. Relax watch his movies, if you have been a fan stay a fan. You can not go by what other people are saying. How do you know if they are right. Do you listen to movie critic\’s? Just because they don\’t like a movie, doesn\’t mean I\’m not going to like it. It\’s just another person\’s opinion.
O.K, Hugh it\’s gloomy out today, we all need a little sunshine. Please tell us something good about Gerard Butler before he leaves town.
Eh, I don\’t know about Hepatitis, but he does go back and forth a lot between looking well and looking sickly as he does in those pictures. You can see the difference in any group of pictures you see of him. If he\’s been out partying at Strongbox then home servicing women all night he\’s probably not going to look that fresh the next day.
Whoever said GBGals are strang women is right, who are the ladies who call themselves his Tarts? They are real freaks! I read an article that interviewed some of them and one said she had a anatomically correct \”Gerry\” manequin. There was mention of chocolate sauce…
If looking half shaven one day and clean shaven the next means you are sick, then at least half the actors and people in the music industry are sick. Like the men on Grey\’s Anatomy or Justin Timberlake. I seems to actually be a look. There are long hours on movie sets. Partying and staying up all night doesn\’t look as good when you get older. Although he doesn\’t drink or smoke. Like someone said earlier if he was sick he couldn\’t get insured for movies or the insurance would be so much it wouldn\’t be worth it. He\’s just an actor for gods sake. What\’s the big deal?
I don\’t think it has anything to do with his facial hair, more an issue with the general look of his skin. It\’s kind of greasy and red.
I\’m waiting on the new post too…
Why is it automatically assumed (remember what that one word broken down really says), that every time Gerry is seen with a woman, he\’s automatically having sex with her? I tend to think that he\’s not nearly as loose with his morals as some would picture him to be. He\’s not stupid, but a very intelligent man, a highly educated man, who would not compromise himself or anyone else in any way. He\’s single, healthy, and does what every other single, healthy male does. He has his fun, and hurts no one in the process. I think too much has been made of all of this, and too many assumptions made from seeds being planted by the blogger, and truth be known, none of it happened the way it was portrayed. Anybody can write anything, that\’s a known fact, and sensationalism sells hits on blogs. If this was provoked by sour grapes, then a very good and decent man\’s reputation and credibility has been compromised for no good reason, and I think it should stop now, and the proper appologies be made. To assume that a man is having sex with a woman or even women, because he leaves a club or party with her, is pretty stupid on the part of the one spreading the rumors. There are many different scenarios that could easily come into play that have nothing to do with sex at all.
If you follow Gerry\’s career, you will know that he puts up with a lot from the press and paparazzi, linking him with this one and that one, and he has even come out publically and denied being involved with some. It seems that he can\’t speak to a woman in public, or even pass one on the street, without the bloggers and gossip mongers making it something it\’s not, romantically linking him to them. It\’s not fair to him, and it\’s not even fair to the women in question.
Gerry is a single man, and he should be able and allowed to date whomever he wishes without anything being made of it, and certainly not being touted as \”promiscuous\” or loose with his morals for it. I have yet to witness Gerard Butler say or do anything that could even be considered questionable, and he has certainly been amicable and friendly, and cooperative, from what I have read up until this last blog of HughE\’s, while in Philly. Everyone has their off days/nights, when they just want to be left alone. I\’m sure this may have been the case with Gerry on the night in question, not wanting his picture taken. He\’s entitled to that. He\’s entitled to his privacy whenever he wants it.
I don\’t know what turned Hugh around here, but Gerry has provided him with excellent material for his blog and has provided Hugh with many more hits on his blog than he probably would get otherwise. The whole movie process has brought millions of dollars into the Philadelphia economy and there have been no adverse or major incidences while LAC has been there filming.
And, incidentally, I happen to be one of those \”Tarts\” and one of those \”GALS.\” I am neither crazy, obsessed or elligible to be typecast in any of the vile categories that Gerry\’s fans are usually put into. You will always find the occasional \”crazy\” fan, but for the most part, Gerry\’s fanbase are good, wonderful women (and men), many of them professional women, who have come to love him not only for his vast talent, but also for the man that he is inside. If people would just read about him, they would know the type of man he is, and I think their opinions would change greatly. He has a worldwide fan base of around 15 million, and there are charity conventions held each year in the US – Las Vegas for GALS, elsewhere for GerardButler.net, UK, Australia, and other parts of the world, that raises money in Gerry\’s name to support the two charities that he supports, Kids Kicking Cancer, here in the US, and CLIC Sargent in the UK (Scotland). How many actors do you know who\’s fans have actual conventions each year in their name? Gerry\’s fans are, by far, the most dedicated fans any actor has, and Gerry knows this, and is very good to his fans. I have been a fan of Gerry\’s since Phantom of the Opera, and the friendships I have made through his fan sites are many and priceless to me.
Gerry is Scottish, he says things and does things a bit differently than we do here in the US, and I think that at times he is misunderstood and misrepresented, and maligned for no reason. I think he deserves a lot better than he gets from the press and certainly from this blog, as we have seen it in the past couple of days.
Gerry is a good man, and he needs to be treated and respected far better than he has been.
Look Tart Gerry was making out with both girls at the same time, what is your problem. He's brought you and your girls hours of fantasies, I was just on your site last night. All you girls did was orgasm over the nude scene he just filmed last week. Leave Hughie alone, he is just providing the on the scene coverage he didn't even go into the great details of the night. He may not have taken a photo, but Gerry didn't object to me shooting him and the whole scene with my camera phone.

Seriously the 1.20PM old lady, too much time on your hands. Maybe you should put down the mouse and go and volunteer for someone who needs help.
The posts on that thread you linked are ridiculous! You couldn\’t have described it better.
To the Tart:
No one THINKS they\’re a freak. Especially when you\’re surrounded by freaks. That\’s something you usually have to be told…
Also, HughE was only reporting what he saw, and it has even been corrobarated by another poster on here. What GB did that night was dispicible, disgusting, and disrespectful to women as a whole.
It\’s women like you and your other tarts that encourage this kind of behavior by talking and acting the way you do about him. I would not be surprised to find out that the reason he has trouble keeping a woman is that they are shocked to find out he\’s a man. He\’s exactly that, a real man who has smelly shit and sweats and burps and farts and has bad breath (how many root canals is he up to now?-that\’s some serious oral hygeine neglect), and women can\’t take that. They think he\’s some kind of god or superstar or the perfect man (I couldn\’t tell you the number of times I\’ve read that). I\’m sure if you spent more than a couple hours with him you\’d realise he\’s just a man who has a job that is very public. He\’s not even very good at it. His American accent is JUST NOW convincing. So, women probably get dissapointed by this and move on. It\’s very sad, really.
Anyway, the behavior of women like you and your fellow tarts who take trips to pass out over seeing the same view he saw (!???) make him think he can do whatever he wants to women, and that they love it. Maybe those messed up hos do love it..
There\’s no doubt he\’s an attractive man, but he\’s still just a man. Wake up.
I don\’t know how you can group the GBGals with GBNet. GBGals treats Gerry like a piece of meat and GBNet treats him as a respected actor. Please don\’t defend GBGals. I am sure there are a few on there that are normal, but the majority of them are very strange. If you read through this blog, you can tell who the GBGals are.
I write weeks and weeks of accurate good stuff, some hearsay and it\’s A-OK. I write one accurate on the scene account and the Tarts attack me as having an ulterior motive. I don\’t even want to write anymore about Gerry. I was invited to go out with him and friends on Saturday, I passed, I have a life and other plans. I hear he was fun to hang out with and partied til the wee hours of the morning til the sun came up. Good for him.
HughE, I understand what you are saying, but it did seem like you were mad at him for not letting you take a photo. Then you proceded to say some bad things about him. So the information was tainted whether it was true or not. I am not a GBGal by the way.
I agree that Gerry is a good man. He is a well educated, gracious person, who is always respectful to his fans. He will stop to sign autographs and take pictures always. He has an incredible sense of humor, a family that loves him very much and charities that are more then happy to be associated with him. He has a stellar reputation with the people he works with or work for him. His fellow actor\’s and actresses have nothing but good things to say about him. The people he has actually dated have never had anything bad to say about him. He is asolutely not the bad person people have been saying he is. If a person doesn\’t want their picture taken at that moment that does\’nt make them a monster. Everyone has a bad day. I heard Paul Newman say once he stopped signing autographs when he was asked to sign one while standing at a urinal. He never signed one after that. These people choose to be in this industry, but they are fellow humans who deserve to have lives and rights. Innocent until proven guilty. His accent and and humor throw people off a little bit. He actually has a law degree. There is more to him then these people are giving him credit for. Not to mention the money he has brought to our community, all the people who have benefited from this movie being filmed here. I\’m sure the Greater Philadelphia Film office would agree. Movies being filmed here help promote our city. If this is the way we treat people I don\’t think they will want to film their moveis here. And that will hurt everyone. I don\’t think this has been good for HughE either. He needs to be able to get near these people in order to take their picture. Maybe they won\’t want him to if it causes this much grief.
HughE, never stop reporting the truth! Don\’t let some silly tarts scare you off. You did the right thing and when I read your post I in no way thought that you were mad because he didn\’t want you to take a picture of him right then. You had permission from his camp to take whatever you wanted. It was very clear to me that you were making an honest report of what happened there that night and what you thought about it, personally.
You\’ve had pleanty of support here and we love the work you do and the honesty and respect with which you operate. Please don\’t be put off by some crazy bitches.
Now there\’s anticipation for another post about GB.
I also feel that you do your city a service Hugh. I happend upon your site when planning a girls weekend with my friend. We were originally looking at Philly in hopes of being able to do some Gerry \”watching\”. We had to postpone our visit, but when we reschedule we still plan to visit Philly, even without Gerry there. I feel like I have friends in Philly and I\’ve never even been there. You Philly people are great!
C\’mon Hugh, you have to do another Gerry post to give us all some closure. We need the last chapter of the Gerry saga.
I think you are all being a bit hard on the person who wrote the long post about Gerry\’s treatment here. She was just stating her opinion like everyone else, and she certainly has that right, the same as anyone. I have met some of Gerry\’s fans, and they are very hard core and devoted to him. They have come up against a lot of ridicule and criticism. I have generally found those who I have met to be warm and caring women. Being a fan of Mr. Butler is no crime yet I see these people being treated as lepers, just because they are fans of and support this actor. They seem to possess a belief in him, and that is not something that anyone should try to take away from them. We all have our own beliefs in certain individuals. If Gerard Butler is theirs, leave them alone with it. It can be likened to some of us having a particular sports figure or team that we follow.
Whether or not any of what was posted here is the gospel truth or not, that\’s neither here nor there. What matters is that one\’s personal and private life is their own, and every detail of it need not be put out for speculation and criticism. I\’m sure if you were on the receiving end, you would think the same way.
Give his fans a break here, they all think they are doing the right thing by a man the obviously have strong respect for, and who knows, maybe they are doing the right thing. Who are any of us to judge them, or him for that matter? Most of us live in those little glass houses…think about it.
I wasn\’t mad. I did get a photo of Gerry. Didn\’t you see the shadow on the wall. I could\’ve skipped his decline of the photo, but the whole point was him whining about \”Not in my element…\” The chicks were taking his photo with their cell phones, in between them making out. (OK the making out part isn\’t true in this instance – LOL)
No one is coming down on these ladies simply for being fans of Gerry. The negative things that are being said are in reference to the fantacism and worshiping that go on. So, unless you masturbate while you watch your favorite basketball team play I wouldn\’t compare them exactly.
What he did in the club that night was not his private life. What he did was in a public setting where pleanty of people saw what was happening, and we have every right to discuss what goes on in public. The other post with the comments about his medical history-that\’s his private life. What we\’re discussing here is something that happened out in the world where everyone could see and we all have a right to an opinion of it.
Okay, what was it that Gerry said? I am getting confused. \”He was in his element, and didn\’t want to be shot in his element\”. This is what you said on the blog or \”Not in my element…\” which you said on the comments page. There is a big difference. One makes him sound like a player where the other does not.
Just got this at 3:15PM
"Hey-just walked by Parc & girard butler is having lunch outside & in some intense conversation-don't know how much longer he'll be there but u r the person I thought of 2 contact-ciao!"
I wrote back: I appreciate this tip, but I am so over GB and his followers I'm gonna pass.
Sometimes I check out Lainey\’s Gossip page (when things are especially dull) and I love how she tells Gerry fans to \’cub the crazy\’ ha ha ha
sorry, that should say \”curb the crazy\”
…\”and by the end of the night settled on two of them for what I can only imagine\”…Aaah, so an assumption was made. I can do the same and assume that this was all PR crap and he is really gay.
HughE you\’re being slapped in the face here! You have given these girls so much Gerry info over the past several weeks and here they are slamming you for one TRUE observation you made. I don\’t blame you for feeling burned by these comments. I get the impression drama follows this man wherever he goes (right after the herd of tarts and GBGals). Don\’t give up on the rest of us. We\’d love some closure.
I have a great ending to this saga.!!! Wouldn\’t it be hilarious if we found out (from a reliable source of course) that all of this is a cover – be it straight, gay, man-ho or not and he really has a wife and 3 kids back in Scotland!!
I\’m not slapping HughE in the face. I think he reported exactly what he saw, and that was a show for his benefit. Gerard recognized him and shook his hand. He and his people must have known this was going to wind up on the net.
I think HughE was used.
If my husband were an overseas celebrity and he were acting like that I\’d slap him in the face. Ruse or not.
If Butler didn\’t object to being filmed with a camera phone while making out, then why not post the pics/videos to finally end the slapping and prove that HughE was telling the truth? I think after all he had to endure these past days with being accused of lying and all sorts of shit this would just be fair.
Agreed! Gerard deserves what he gets for acting like an ass in public, but HughE is being unfairly treated over this.
I don\’t know there\’s an awful lot of debate about that…
Hey, this has been a win-win. HughE\’s site has a shitload of hits, and Gerard\’s image as a slut (real or PR crap), lives on.
Don\’t worry, HughE, no matter how bad it is it can always get worse:
Best post: #38
good grief @ 01/24/2009 at 9:31 pm Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
I see the f/tards are out posting in force while they stroke their Gerry dolls.
Shit, now I look like an F/tard \’cause I forgot my link..
http://justjared.buzznet.com/2009/01/24/gerard-butler-law-abiding-citizen/comment-page-1/#comments
This is so exhausting. Gerry fans, HughE fans, who\’s right, who\’s wrong. Who\’s telling the truth? I was there, and I saw this, no I was there and I saw that. He\’s a good guy, he\’s not a good guy. Butler didn\’t want his picture taken. HughE is mad about that. Did all this really start over a picture and a comment about an actor? It seems like HughE has loyal local fans and Butler has really loyal world wide fans. Every thing is relative. HughE you can\’t win with the Butler fans, there are too many of them. And Butler fans you are still going to like him no matter what anybody says. So what\’s the difference? Call it a day.
Where/how do we see the camera phone recording??
HughE! The next time you\’re in a club, and you\’re approached by a celebrity? RRRRUUUUUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!!
This isn\’t the first time Butler has been seen cruising bars and hitting on women. Nor is it the first time he has been seen leaving a party or club with two women. So, why all the hate towards Hugh? No one has criticized Hugh\’s past observations and reporting on Butler. I guess his comments and observations are only credible when it is what some want to hear and/or believe.
I think Hugh is honest in his reporting — and it is consistent with other accounts and videos on the guy. In any event, famous or not, no one has an expectation of privacy in a bar — especially when you are mingling and talking with strangers at a club opening.
It is strange that Butler attracts a fan base of older women (some old enough to be his mother) who are so rabid about defending him and making public excuses/explanations for his behavior. That is the type of behavior you expect to see in young girls, not grown women. Being a fan has no age requirement or restriction, but age usually plays a role in how one behaves. Yet, many seem to mimic the adolescent behavior of the almost 40 year old man that they adore, and seem to take it all personally.
I believe Hugh and think this is a situation of \”shooting the messenger\”.
I\’m not sure it should be much of a shock that Gerard is a male slut. Doesn\’t anyone recall his days with Yulia Manbushka, the porn star? He was in Ischia and probably went through at least two men, three women, Yulia\’s manbush and maybe a veggie lasagna.
And a quart of penicillin.
HA! HA! Veggie Lasagna. makes me want Italian. Anyway does any of this really matter? You know what matters, my kid needs braces and they are so expensive. I wish we had a dentist in the family. I know right? How come the people in your family are never in the profession that you need? We have a few teachers, and various other professions, but no doctors or mechanics. Why?? I know that was random but so is this whole blog. That comment about the old ladies, I take offense to take. I\’m only a few years older than him, but he is cute. So I asked my mother and she said she thought he was handsome, and she is not a freak, slut, whore or a fan. She has good eyes though. Thank god, because we have no eye doctor\’s in the family either.
