The 4th Annual Sandwich Make-Off at The Bellevue’s Gourmet Food Court
The 4th Annual Sandwich Make-Off at The Bellevue’s Gourmet Food Court eas held yesterday at the Bellevue Food Court. Among the judges were John Bolaris (Doing his best Simon Cowell), Kathy Orr and Glen “Hurricane” Schwartz. All three are the Chief Meteorologists at their perspective stations, but interesting enough they all worked at WCAU/NBC10 at the same time in the late ’90s and early ’00s. Bolaris – 1990 to 2003. Orr came to WCAU/NBC10 in 1998, leaving in 2003 for KYW. Schwartz 1995 til present. Hurricane piped up that he was hired as the anti-bolaris. Kathy was hired to mediate between the two, no actually I can’t remember what she said, but all three of them are infamous for that one winter prediction in 2003.
Other judges included DA candidates Seth Williams and Michael Untermeyer. Phillies Ball Girls Gina Papilli & Jordan Teuber and Jamie Smith, Philabundence. The weather people tried their best to describe their opinions of the sandwiches in “Weather Terms”. For example at one point John joke that a sandwich was a category 3 and if they had added horseradish it might have been a 5.
A nice sized crowd came out to see the annual sandwich contest, which benefits Philabundance
At one point Michael Untemyer, Republican candidate for DA said that one sandwich was so salty he would never serve it at a meeting.
Entertainment was provided by Jose Pieretti, Bryanerick Reyes, Michael davino (director), Manny Jimeniz and Warren Simmons
Really Glen I think it was more of a cold front. I didn’t like it.

Kathy Orr explains that the pesto sandwich had an explosion of delicious flavors and created a strong front of joy. The vortex was deep.
The judges make the hard decision on which sandwich is the best. I have an idea it’s the last one as I had heard a lot of Hmmmm mmm’s
Seth Williams walks to the winning sandwich standHurricane Schwartz and John Bolaris greet fans. If this picture doesn’t clear up one thing, there is no doubt that the news people are celebrities and folks want to greet them and are excited to see them in person.
The Award for People’s Choice went to Bain’s for the Juan Epstein, named for the character on Welcome Back Kotter who’s half Hispanic and half Jewish. It’s a Corned Beef Special on a Cuban roll. We had voting by ballet on Monday with free samples for the public. They won by an overwhelming margin! Seth Williams is giving Michael Jolles his trophy.
