What You’re Going to Eat and Drink at Made In America 2018

What You’re Going to Eat and Drink at Made In America 2018

Late Thursday construction workers were in full on mode getting Made In America ready for this weekends Two Day Music Festival on the Parkway. This year Budweiser bailed on the sponsorship, so I was curious what they were going to serve. Coors Light 24oz for $13, Corona 24oz for $14 and a lot of JayZ’s brand D’Usse Cocktails (Water $4, Soda $5)

MADE IN AMERICA custom D’USSÉ® cocktails will be featured at both specialty and full-service bars. The festival will feature nine different D’USSÉ cocktails, showcasing the versatility of cognac and allowing guests to sample the delicious spirit. Cocktails will include the popular D’USSÉ and Lemonade, D’USSÉ “Long Island” Iced Tea, D’USSÉ Watermelon Cooler, D’USSÉ Paradise, D’USSÉ Strawberry Lemonade, D’USSÉ Painkiller, D’USSÉ Sunray, D’USSÉ The Coco and the D’USSÉ Peachtree. These cocktails will be sold exclusively at the festival at over 20 bars around the grounds throughout the two days.

Ciroc will also be on hand for specialty drinks

You want food, a pizza slice is going to set you back $7, a personal pie $15
Mac & Cheese 8, but for a few more dollars you can get Lobster Mac at $14
Don’t forget to visit the Cause Village. Stop by and see Mural Arts, The William Way Center, the ACLU and lots of other good causes
Fruit Smoothies on a hot day, only $7
They’ll be a lot more food on hand, including McDonald’s, and Philly Cheese Steaks
The Cow and the Curd ditched their food truck this year, and settled into the food court.

Taco Tuesday is now on Saturday & Sunday

The Ferris Wheel is back, as well as the swings, but don’t plan on playing on the Van Colln Playground, it’s newly installed and fenced in to keep it in pristine condition.  I did see lots of fun festival play areas, including a “Sip & Paint” area where you enjoy your cocktail while creating art work. Remember to drink a lot of water, along with your other cocktails. There are several water stations you should be visiting through out the day so you can stay hydrated.  Check out these news sites for in-depth coverage and tips for you to survive
Have an awesome time, I can’t wait to see your photos.

Haute Fashion as the Temperatures Soar In The Final Days of “Summer”

Haute Fashion as the Temperatures Soar In The Final Days of “Summer”Soar
I don’t know about you, but I love to soak up the last days of August, outside whenever possible, and I want it to be hot, the dog days of summer.

I thought I’d go out and see how our neighbors were handling the heat.
I try and photograph people from the front, but this women I couldn’t catch up with. I loved her floral skirt, embroidered top, and little black purse, but her most important fashion accessory had to be that gigantic bottle of water she was carrying.

In fact James the mailman, told me that the most important thing to do on a hot day is to keep cool by staying hydrated as well as dressing comfortably. If you see James in the Rittenhouse Square area, tell him hi. After photographing people, I headed into the neighborhood to photograph window boxes, another favorite thing to do in August as everything is in full bloom.
I photographed in the area of Rittenhouse Square as I feel that 18th and Walnut Sts. is the style center of downtown.

I sure miss the days when Big Rube and I would go shooting way back when he began his now retired column in the Daily News.
It’s a different skill to photograph people without asking their permission, and also catching them before they see youas you want them in the moment, candid and comfortable

I love everything about her

Terrain Gardens at Devon Yard Opens with a Party

Terrain Gardens at Devon Yard Opens

URBN’s lifestyle center, Terrain Gardens at Devon Yard opened about 2 weeks ago with a shopping area, event space, and two restaurants. Last night they celebrated with its vendors at a reveal party which also gave the vendors like photographers, event planners as idea of the layout for the space. The event space features four spaces—a reception room, garden porch, ceremony garden and bridal suite—and can hold up to 150 guests.

The aesthetic details, such as reclaimed barn wood floors, festival lights draped over open beams and an abundance of blooming flowers. The space can be configured to feature a dance floor, or you can have more tables in place for your event.

Also located in the new lifestyle center is the popular amis trattoria serving Italian cuisine; This is going to be the new hottest spot on the Main Line to dine. The new eatery sits nearly 150 people, with an expansive outdoor eating area. (I had dinner there, this is what I ate)

there’s also an oversized Anthropologie on site

Dine on seasonal dishes at Terrain Cafe by Executive Chef Ryan Bloome
(They’re not open for dinner Monday or Tuesday was kinda bummed but Chef created the bread set up for me. Having never been to a Terrain I didn’t realize this was something they do at all their places, so adorable)

The dining area is adorable and perfect for the winter time blues, in warmer months there’s a nice outdoor dining area.

The sales people were helpful and answered all my questions. I loved the bio-dome kit.

I love Bonsai plantings, the little tree on the right, and most of the plantings for Bonsai was only $10. The completed pot was $100

This is the kind of plant I can get my green thumb

This Is Us Films in PHILLY!!, Lance Bass Serenades, Stevie Wonder Signs for Fans, Plus More Philly Gossip

This Is Us Films in PHILLY!!, Lance Bass Serenades Countess Luann de Lesseps, Plus More Philly Gossip in

HughE Around Town

I hope you’re weekend is going fantastic. I’ve been staycationing this week in Philly and I’m sure glad I did as I got a tip on Saturday afternoon that the very popular show, we all watch – THIS IS US was filming in Historic Philly area (These photos are SPOILER ALERT). I left Mike and my pile of spring cleaning and set out to find the filming spot. It wasn’t at the obvious places like Elfreth’s Alley, Independence Hall or even Betsy Ross’ house (If you follow me on Instagram, you saw some of those places in my stories), but it was at the WHYY studios.

Even though I spent an hour looking for the filming location, luck was with me as at the time I found them they were filming right in the lobby at WHYY.  I know it looks like I’m in the bushes hiding,

but I was actually sitting on a bench outside the Constitution Center. I even tagged the shot #thisisus as a clue.

I didn’t know who was on set, but was so excited to catch actor Justin Hartley , who plays Kevin Pearson gazing out onto 6th Street, as legendary NPR host of Fresh Air, Terry Gross waits for instructions on the scene they are about to film. (The darn sidewalk was reflecting against the glass)

Also in this scene is actress Melanie Liburd (l), who plays Zoe, a potential new love interest for Kevin. It just made the news last week that Liburd has been signed on as a regular on the show. (Deadline)
This Is Us Season 3 premieres Tuesday, September 25 at 9 PM on NBC.

On the heels of “The Real Housewives of New York City’s” Season 10 reunion where Countess Luann de Lesseps was missing because #Healthfirst, the Countess was in high spirits Friday night during her #CountessAndFriends Cabaret show at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, NJ. Surprise guests who took the stage throughout the evening included Michelle Buteau, Lance Bass, Amber Martin and Mykal Kilgore. (photo provided by Borgata) A few snippets from the show:

This week’s reunion: “I watched five minutes of it and it was so dark. I was like, Jesus. Bethenny did a great job because she had her hands full. Wow. Well, you know Carole’s gone now” to the crowd erupting.
Which Housewife from the franchise she’d want to be stranded on an island with: “I think I would enjoy Lisa Vanderpump. At least we’d have a lot to talk about because she’s an educated lady. We’d have a lot of stories to swap. We would swap jewelry.”
Lu ended the evening thanking the crowd. “To be up here and have you guys come and fill up this venue. This is the biggest venue I’ve played to date. I’m so overwhelmed with joy, I can’t even tell you,” as “L.O.V.E.” from Michael Bublé began to play. Her encore concluded the show with her fan-favorite hit, “Chic, C’est La Vie.”

Speaking of the  Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, NJ., Stevie Wonder performed two shows there this weekend, Friday and Saturday. Team Derek caught up with the legendary singer where he signed a few items for the big fan. We were impressed by Stevie’s signature it is much better than half of Hollywood’s graph.

Across the bay in Brigantine, NJ another Steve, NBC10 meteorologist Steve Sosna was having a blast this one with his TV Wife, anchor Denise Nakano. The duo hung out with their husbands Jonathan Lovitz and Paul Guercio, went clamming, then grilled them on the barby on the beach. I’d say that was a darn good time, look at all those clams. I hope they had a lot of bug spray on, Brigantine is notorious for green heads. I went bird watching there last month, forgot my spray and became the prey.

Speaking of on the air spouses, does any two people have more fun on TV than Fox29’s Lauren Johnson and Meteorologist Mike Masco, who recently celebrated his birthday. What a dynamic duo, they’re so hysterical. Mike’s going to be extra today as he just worked a double on Saturday. I’d been following his twitter account for a couple years, enjoying his crazy delivery on the forecast, and am so excited he’s permanent on Fox 29 now. Catch him on the weekends, where I’ll be popping up once in awhile this fall.

Congrats to my friends who wore sworn in this week by Judge Dan Anders, who married Mike and I four years ago at City Hall.
Congrats to Dana and Troy Smith who were recently married by Mayor Jim Kenney at Del Frisco’s Steakhouse!!

If you click on #SaveTheDatePHL on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, you’ll find fun events to attend as that’s the hashtag I use. Coming up on Thursday is a fun event where you can adopt Fido, plus be served by one of your favorite Phillies players. The Phanatic will be on hand as well. It’s at Morgan’s Pier and it’s called Puppapalooza at the Pier, a Phillies-themed event, raises funds and awareness for the Pennsylvania SPCA’s mission of rescuing animals from cruelty and neglect, rehabilitating them medically and behaviorally and ultimately finding them the loving homes they have always deserved.  I’ll be there so bring your smile.

Tonight’s the August Full Moon.
Check back tomorrow to see which events I photographed this weekend, and then read more
HughE Around Town on Thursday. I think Thursday’s and Sunday’s are going to be the regular days this fall, with the occasional breaking gossip news as it happens.  OK now go out and enjoy the day!!

Patti LaBelle’s Sold Out Party in the Park and Aretha Franklin Dedication

Patti LaBelle’s Sold Out Party in the Park happened last night, where she spoke of Aretha Franklin

Last night marked my 18th Patti LaBelle concert, you could call me a fan. It’s my 3rd Patti Patti concert this year, which is so thrilling
to me as there was a Patti drought for a few years in the oo’s in Philly. I saw her in NYC then.
The concert was SOLD OUT, which was fabulous. Last year at the Dell it rained, and it pained me for Patti to see people didn’t turn
out for the Godmother of Soul. First stop for me was the Visit Philly
Homesick Philly party. They gave out cool “gift bags” with xoxo key chains and a blanket for the grass.
There were lots of treats representing Philly, especially if you’re homesick
Chill Moody, the Nice rapper and Homesick Ambassador was on hand, as well as the legendary Ms Patty Jackson.

The evening began with the sexy, calming voice of Philly-based jazz singer Laurin Talese, who was encouraged to do 2 encores from the crowd that adored her.
In between acts is where the Party in the Park comes alive with DJ Gary O playing music

that gets the crowd up on their feet dancing

MCing the evening was Patty Jackson, WDAS, who brought out her son, Robert on stage. It was great to see him as over the years Patty has talked about him
and we all have seen him grow into a fine young man.

First time appearance at the Dell, Grammy-winning jazz singer Gregory Porter entertained the crowd for a good part of an hour, and even though he stood between Patti and me, I didn’t mind as his songs were smooth and full of stories.

More crowd up on their feet

Party in the Park
and in the aisles

Then it was Ms Patti LaBelle’s time, she sang a lot of her classic songs – When You Feel Blesses, On My Own and my favorite If Only You Knew, and even took requests from the audience a few times

Singing Little Girls to this women, who’s told Patty that she and her mother were friends, but her mom has since passed. BTW I love that Ms Patti has a coat rack on stage.

Patti LaBelle then tearfully paid tribute to Aretha Franklin.  Patti went on to tell us that after Aretha Franklin died, her sister in law called her and asked her to perform at her service Aug 31, they said Aretha planned her service in December and Patti Labelle was at the the top of the list. Unfortunately Patti is already booked and unable to make it as she’s at the Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival August 31. So at last night’s concert Patti paid tribute to Aretha Franklin and recorded one of her signature songs ‘You are my Friend’ to be played at the service next week. (Here’s a story on who’s playing at Aretha’s funeral)

Patti reflected on life and love during her concert, and encouraged others to choose love over hate, as well as cherish their lives as we never know when
it’s our time to go.

She also mentioned her friend Bunny Sigler who passed last year. Patti also brought out her grandbabies – Gia has her own instagram, but hasn’t posted in awhile
Heading to my car I ran into this fun duo with their friends.
Patti LaBelle you are a Philadelphia Treasure!!!
Thank you!!
Til next time.

Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge Near Atlantic City (Not LBI like Google Says)

Whenever time allots, and I’m near AC, I like to stop at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. Located about 20 minutes outside
of AC, off of Route 9, is a tranquil wildlife refuge filled with beautiful birds, sea creatures and other wildlife. It’s an affordable $4 a car, but we like to donate a little more as it’s such a gem.

There are look outs over the marsh plus an 8 mile gravel looped road with pull offs for you to enjoy.
You can see the AC skyline in the distance.

Bring bug spray, as the green heads are happy to see you. We were there on a particularly windy day which saved us
It’s a great place to go and take the kids to enjoy nature and view wildlife in their natural habitat. It’s also a great rainy day activity if you just take the drive without doing any of the hiking trails.

My Favorite Diner en Blanc Photos

On Thursday, August 16, 2018 over 5,500 guests attended Le Dîner en Blanc – Philadelphia held at City Hall and Thomas Paine Plaza. This was the seventh edition in the City of Brotherly Love and the largest Dîner en Blanc gathering in the country, so far this summer, for the second year in a row. Guests had the opportunity to explore one of the city’s most iconic landmarks while mingling amongst fellow Philadelphians. The following photos are a few of my favorites….

I bet a lot of the folks headed to Diner en Blanc wished they could have dove into Swann Fountain
There are some people I see just once a year and that’s Tom and Theresa Grady, with table mate Nicole Bradshaw

This will go down as the best party ever at Dilworth Park

Melanie Highbloom – thanks for making me feel so special

“This year we were celebrating the 30th anniversary of the event’s creation in Paris that brought so many people together throughout the world,” said Le Dîner en Blanc – Philadelphia co-host Natanya DiBona. “We selected City Hall, including Dilworth Park and Paine Plaza, this year because it’s located in the heart of our city. We wanted to celebrate Philadelphia as an international destination, and highlight our culturally rich and diverse city.”

Sparkler time to kick off the dance party

Thanks to everyone who allowed me to photograph them. See you next year at the 8th Annual Diner en Blanc!!

Tabletop Style At Diner En Blanc Philly 2018

Tabletop Style At Diner En Blanc Philly 2018

Diner En Blanc, which originated out of Europe is an all white picnic party that pops up in various cities for one night only. The location is kept a secret until the very last minute, guests wear elegant white clothes and bring their own tables, decoration and food (although you can order from an onsite caterer beforehand as well as obtain flowers). I’m always amazing that they cart the tables, and it’s impressive when they bring elaborate table settings as well. Especially when Diner en Blanc Philly is always held the 3rd Thursday in August when it’s so HOT! But people do it, they love it and every year the party grows.

Philadelphia’s 7th annual Diner en Blanc is less than a month away and the event’s two passionate organizers — Natanya DiBona and Kayli Moran

How amazing is this wood carving centerpiece including the Philly skyline

Just beautiful
These folks created an epic table

Inspired by Black Panther they created Wakanda

Launched with just a handful of friends by François Pasquier nearly 30 years ago, Le Dîner en Blanc® de Paris now assembles over 10,000 guest every year, with a record 15,000 people attending the 25th anniversary in 2013.

Anyone may participate, however everyone must remain simple and leave their social status at home. During the Dîner, we are all equal and no one enjoys preferential treatment – François Pasquier

The simplest things in life, like friendship, are universal. Any event that promotes sharing and discussions over a meal can happen in any country in the world: you just have to give it a name, and the name today is Le Dîner en Blanc.  – François Pasquier

Wow, did they carry the water too that was used in the floating candle display?
Aisha Harris-Leone and her amazing table. You can’t tell from this photo, but her dress is lit up as well.

This young lady’s table included a tree which featured photos from the previous year she and her friends attended
It’s just amazing people will not only attend the event, but bring such elaborate table decor.
