Nuisance 7-11 Closes; 6ABC Wedding, Jillian and Jessica Out and About, Best People Watching

Relax it’s only Sunday, but if you’re looking for something to do I have a suggestion the annual La Festa Street Festival on East Passyunk from 11am to 7pm. I’ll be shooting the event between 1PM and 330PM, you can find me at the spaghetti eating contest at 3PM. Bon Appétit!!

There’s one less place to grab a slurpee this summer as the packed, but often troubled 7-11 store across from Love Park has closed. Super convenient for grab and go items, especially since the closest Wawa can’t be found for blocks. It’s actually perfect for a Wawa since they already handle massive crowds at their Broad and Walnut, and 20th and Market Stores. If you need your Slurpee fix, especially on 7/11 Slurpee Day, when they give away free Slurpee’s, you can find one at 1319 Market Street, or 1835 Arch Street. Customers can stop into their local 7-Eleven between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. local time to receive a small Slurpee for free.
Congrats are in order for 6ABC producer Jessica Gonzalez who married the love of her life yesterday Andrew H, in Montauk, New York, her happy place. Many of her co-workers went to the chapel including Brian & Mara Taff, Alicia Vitarelli, Sharrie Williams, Matt Pellman, as well as a few alumni’s Kenneth Moton, who is now a correspondent for ABC News and Shirleen Allicot who now co-anchors Eyewitness News This Morning and Eyewitness News at Noon in ABC7 in NYC.
Last night I did a radio segment for Style Club Radio, 1210 WHPT at 11pm, with Josh DeMarco is Philadelphia’s NEW on-air hub/mecca of style and fashion and co-hosted by Creative Director and Fashion designer Steveala Sanchez, and Michelle Miller. Then we all headed to Stratus Lounge to catch Quest Love spin at the Roots Picnic After Party. It was a no cell phones, social media party but I was able to get this one shot at a point where everyone seemed to whip out their phones to capture the legend behind the turntable. Quest Love will be spinning once again tonight, at an all age party on the Moshulu at 6PM. Tickets are only $15. This time they’ll be securing your phone in a sealed envelope. Just don’t open it on deck. (Info)
Congrats to Pearl Properties their news place , The Harper, is 100 Percent Leased on opening day June 1.
Two beautiful reporters walk into a bar, well in this case a popular restaurant Double Knot. Jessica Boyington grabbed dinner with former co-worker Jillian Mele on Friday night at the Center City hot spot. The two former traffic gals from NBC10 had a lot of catching up to do now that Jessica has popped up as a general entertainment reporter at 6ABC. Jillian is now on Fox & Friends in NYC, on an early morning shift, so both noted in their social media posts how unusual it was for Jillian to be noshing on a Friday night. Last week 007 Pierce Brosnan was in town, well he flew into town, drove to Dickinson University to give the Commencement Speech then grabbed dinner at Estia Taverna in Radnor, before running into real estate celebrity to the stars – Melissa Leonard at PHL as they were both flying out.
Last night I spotted Harvey Welker, Julie Welker, a Fairmount real estate agent and most notably known as NBC News correspondent Kristen Welker ‘s parents at Capital Grille in Center City. Mike and I were there celebrating Stacy Kracher’s birthday, and the impending birth of her and Brandon Morrison’s baby due 7/20. Their sidewalk cafe is now open.
Guaranteed to put a smile on your face, a stop by Dilworth Park. The water park was packed yesterday with kids cooling off, parents chatting with friends, and folks just enjoying the day. Every day there’s something going on at the park, located on the west side of City Hall. Check their website for info.
Another great place to people watch, Fairmount Park. I caught this mama groundhog sunning on a sign. Nearby were her cute babies. It was adorable. I recently aquired a new lens 150mm to 600mm to further expand my bird watching captures. So it was fun to see this yesterday on my way to photograph the 13th Annual Independence Dragon Boat Regatta. Check out the photos here on CBS3Philly, as well as many other parties I photographed this week.
Have a great day!!

Little Pete’s Last Day, NBC News’ Kristin Welker Weds, Christie to Be A Mom, PLUS More Tidbits

Welcome to PhillyChitChat’s weekly Philly Gossip Column. Sunday’s and Thursday’s we’re going to get you in the know.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr chilly this weekend, but you know that. Today I hope to see some of you at The Brewer’s Plate at the Kimmel Center and/or Variety Club’s Let Them Eat Cake at the Loews. Yes I know you’re saying but isn’t Let Them Eat Cake a City of Hope event. Well Harry Giordano, jumped from COH to Variety, and took the event he created with him. Kind of surprising that could be done as I know another recent personality tried to do that and it didn’t fly.

Paul Steinke, ‎Executive Director – ‎Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia, posted on his FB page that the last day for Little Pete’s on 17th Street is Monday May 29 – Memorial Day. What a way to start off the summer, boo hoo. Plans call for the beloved diner to be replaced by a Hyatt Centric hotel.

I spoke with Little Pete that evening at his second location, which is at 2401 Fairmount (ie 2401 Pennsylvania Ave – The Philadelphian, where I live). He tells me it’s true, he’s planning a big block party to thank customers for their support over the years. I asked him about new locations, and he said he’s given up on Center City and it’s high priced rent. You’ll recall I mentioned a bit back that he looked at the Cosi at 15th and Locust, and the rent was over $20ks a month. Pete tells me they’re going to take time off, he and his brother, John Koutroubas, who runs 17th Street are looking forward to running the Fairmount Little Pete’s, and taking long vacations. When they’re ready they’re looking in Northern Liberties, or the Fishtown area Pete told me with excitement. That area is really hot and happening.

Speaking of Fairmount, my former neighbor Kristen Welker, NBC White House Correspondent was in town over the weekend to marry her long time love John Hughes. Welker is the daughter of Harvey and Julie Welker, who still reside in Fairmount. The wedding took place at the Hyatt at the Bellevue. The ceremony was in the Rose Ballroom; afterwards guests headed downstairs to the Grand Ballroom.

3-5-2017 9-35-10 PM (Custom)

Spotted in the crowd was Kelly O’Donnell, political reporter for NBC News – who spoke at the ceremony; Chuck Todd, who headed back to Washington DC to host this morning’s “Meet The Press”, Andrea Mitchell, and her husband Alan Greenspan, David Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President of Comcast, as well as NBC10 Philadelphia alumni Justin Pizzi now with Saxbys, and Aditi Roy, now with CNBC.
Presiding over the wedding was Rev Kevin Johnson, Dare to Imagine Church.
The couples first song was by Etta James “At Last”Welker

Congrats to Chad Boonswang and Jess Stockham on their nuptials which took place last night at the Union League. Many of their friends from far and wide
were in attendance including the original Rittenhouse Entourage celebrity reporter Arthur Kade, Tony Piazza (pic above), and Ron Hansen.

Congratulations to Christie and Brandon Mandia who are expecting heir first bouncing baby; little Mandia will be
making his debut Labor Day Weekend.
BTW Christie’s client, the delicious James restaurant, is starting a musically inclined Happy Hour in the month of March, so stayed tune for that
delivery as well.

Congrats to Hadas Kuznits and Dan Reinherz on baby number 3; 4 more months to go.

Congrats to Brian Stevenson, Business Representative for IBEW Local 98 and the lovely Kiley Jo Schroeder on their engagement which happened in Switzerland while they attended the ISZL Gala 2017

That Untouchable movie is chugging along nicely. While I was away Nicole Kidman filmed her scenes in Bucks County, as I mentioned the week before;
Here she’s posing with a few officers from the Solebury Police Department.

The Untouchable’s filmed in Mayfair to the delight of the neighbors.

Untouchable also filmed in the Badlands. Here’s tailor Daniel Morroni, Sr on the set with Kevin Hart’s stand in as well as Bryan Cranstons. I’m seeing a striking resemblance with Hart’s double, not so much with Cranston’s. Must be the height.

Dax Shepard handed out free cheesesteaks to some lucky fans! After tweeting out the location, the 42-year-old Parenthood actor participated in the event to celebrate the release of his latest film CHIPS on Friday (March 3) at Jim’s Steaks South St. in Philadelphia, Pa. He was joined by his co-star Michael Pena as they munched on chips, took selfies with fans, and maybe ate a few too many cheesesteaks! (Check out more of my pixs at Just Jared)

Speaking of Michael Peña
his next movie is The LEGO NINJAGO Movie which is produced by Affleck/Middleton Productions.
Shown here is John Powers Middleton, who also produced Manchester By The Sea starring his producing partner Casey Affleck, who won an Oscar.
What’s this have to do with Philly, John grew up in the Philly burbs, and his parents are the majority owners of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Sheena Parveen Left us for this Hottie, Snow Pixs, Kristen Welker Party – Philly Gossip

Sheena Parveen Left us for this Hottie, Snow Pixs, Kristen Welker Party – Philly Gossip

Happy happy Monday. I can’t believe Christmas is next week. This month, this year, going by so fast. My mom always told me this would be the case as I got older and she was right. I really wish everyone a very happy holiday season, and new year. This past weekend was picture perfect. I spent Friday at Christmas Village with my Cabot Cheese family, handing out samples, and gifts and chatting with a lot of people.  Saturday and Sunday were picture perfect as well. Here are a few shots….

Rittenhouse Square Sun 2am

Don’t drive DRUNK. 22nd Street below Chestnut, Sunday at 230AM. A guy hit this parked car, and drove off. He didn’t get far as both his airbags deployed and he was trying to drive holding one up so he could see where he was going. With the helpful descriptions from witnesses’ I caught up with him about 2 blocks away, as I was relaying info to 911. The cops came and snagged him.

Over the weekend I went to a slew of terrific parties, but no party was as important as the one
where I said “good-bye” to my friend Sheena Parveen, who’s on her way to NBC DC to do the weather

in the morning. She’ll be closer to her BFF Erin Como (r) , Fox 5 DC, and

her beau who is stationed in Virginia (I told you earlier this year that Sheena was leaving for the love of the job, and her love). She’ll be missed

all our friends who were there for the send off Alissa, Tony, Christie, Brandon, Jessica B, Marisa, and most of all Justin Pizzi, her neighbor, side guy and dog walker.

Speaking of Justin Pizzi, after an early evening goodbye cocktail party with us, he headed to former Fairmount resident, NBC10 reporter now a NBC White House Correspondent, Kristen Welker‘s engagement party. She’s marrying John Hughes (l), who proposed June 24. A 2017 wedding is planned. Every January Kristen’s mom Julie Welker sends me a magnetic calendar of a photo of her, Kristen and President and Mrs Obama.

My cousin in law David Nakamura, Washington Post  also attends the same luncheon where White House correspondents get their photos taken with Potus and Flotus. He usually takes his wife. This year he took his mom, Mike’s Aunt Bernie.

After a rough day on the field Eagles player Nolan Carroll headed out to Rumor to shake it off. Ahh I miss those weekly parties at G Lounge with DeSean Jackson and friends

Taylor Kinney with South Philly Girlfriend Alanna DiGiovanni Photo Emerges, Loving,

Happy Thursday Afternoon, and welcome to another edition of Philly Gossip. Since I posted the Page Six article yesterday on all my social media about Lady Gaga’s ex-fiancé Taylor Kinney and his “new” girlfriend, South Philly’s Alanna DiGiovanni, I’ve been bombarded with photos and stories from people who know her. A lot of people tell me she’s a home town girl, close to her family, super nice and everyone said she’s a good friend.  First I said she was a radiologist, wrong, that’s a doctor my readers tell me. She actually works in radiology. OK
(Don’t try and look for her on Social Media, she’s completely deleted her online life, even her 2nd name which was still active over the weekend as i found her friends tagging her in photos.)

They also tell me Taylor and her are just friends. They met last July 2015, when Taylor and Lady Gaga were in AC for a Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett concert. Taylor and Alanna began
following each other on instagram and kept in touch that way. At some point they began seeing each other in person. Last weekend Taylor, and a friend, and Alanna and her friend went to Austin, Texas, together to attend the Formula One race and Taylor Swift concert where the above photograph was taken. That’s Taylor and Alanna on the left. She kinda looks like Lady Gaga. BTW I bought Joanne, and I LOVE IT. It’s a different genre of singing, but it’s deep and compassionate. The Daily Mail reports that Lady Gaga and Taylor are working to get back together, and I hope that is true. None of the other photos indicate that the Taylor/Alanna friendship is anymore than that, even though it is a bit odd that he’s hanging out with a gal he met at a club last summer, shortly after he broke off his engagement to a gal he was in love with for 5 years.

My friend at the Union League tells me they caught the guy who broke the Union League steps at the junk yard. The 6 foot piece of brass would only have
brought in $40 because it was hollow, plus there was concrete inside which was there to make it more durable in case people sat on it. Can you imagine
how heavy it was to carry. Sadly the steps will cost $100ks to fix, and it’ll take time, at least until spring of 2017. BUT there will be celebrations and dedications when it
comes time to unveil the brand new railing and brand new pictures .

Congrats to Philly’s Kristen Welker, she’s from my neighborhood Fairmount.

In 1967, Richard (Joel Edgerton) and Mildred (Ruth Negga) Loving took their case to the Supreme Court after violating a Virginia law that prohibits interracial marriage. The movie on their battle opens next Friday, November 4.

Speaking of Fairmount, what are you and the kids doing this weekend?

Join us at Eastern State Penitentiary for the 2nd Annual Fairmount Fall Festival – Oct. 29, 12:30-3:30… kids activities, arts and crafts, trick or treating, history scavenger hunt, picture and more!

Rahel Solomon and Kacie McDonnell Spotted, Air Supply, Babies,

Happy Monday Morning. I had a busy last weekend in August. I was a guest at Golden Nugget on Friday night to photograph Kathie Lee Gifford, who had an appearance that their International Wine Festival. Then headed back to Philly to see Air Supply at Sugarhouse Casino. Both casinos were lucky for me as I played my favorite Willie Wonka slot machine.  Back home this is what was happening…

Philly’s born and bred Rahel Solomon, CBS3 Philly, was filling in on the anchor desk for a vacationing Natasha Brown.  On Saturday she was at Salon Vanity for a blow out.

Former Fox 29’s Kacie McDonnell was also spotted at Salon Vanity getting her hair done over the weekend. just wrote last week: Kacie McDonnell joins New England sports channel

Another Philly born and bred gal was sitting in the anchor seat over the weekend, Kristen Welker, NBC news, who was filling in for the vacationing Lestor Holt.

These fill -ins are great job try outs too.

Speaking of Philly newswomen, former NBC10 weather women Brittney Shipp has written a children’s book called

“The Meteorologist in Me”. Pre Order your copy HERE

No one was All of Out Love on Saturday night, as Air Supply stopped by Sugarhouse, as they tour America this summer. Sugarhouse has recently completed and opened a free parking garage, as well as an event space. I’ve covered several events there already and was wondering how it would transform into a concert venue. Very nicely, very intimately, great sound. Seated the space holds 450 people.  Towards the end of the concert guests were dancing in the aisle. I’ve always loved Air Supply, and didn’t realize at the time of the popularity that they were/are really a rock band as much as an easy listening group.

Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock of Air Supply still have amazing voices despite passing their 41st year as a band.

8-29-2016 11-41-36 AM

They sing some of the most memorable songs, mostly about love and devotion. It was great.

  • Sweet Dreams
  • Even the Nights Are Better
  • Just As I Am
  • Every Woman in the World
  • Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)
  • I Adore You
  • The One That You Love (performed in audience)
  • Lost in Love
  • Making Love Out of Nothing at All8-29-2016 12-04-15 PMAaron Mclain shreds ferociously on guitar, as Russell Hitchcock sings

No doubt a lot of babies were conceived during Air Supply songs, here’s a few of the babies born in our area this past week. Chef Evan Turney celebrated the birth of his son last week, and his new eatery Butcher Bar opens later this week.  Wife and mother Carla Montalvo is ecstatic as well.

#Hilladelphia – A Slice of Life on Primary Day

Happy Day After #Hilladelphia where Hillary Clinton won in Philadelphia, winning 63 percent of the vote, and 59 of the city’s 66 wards. ( Before being PhillyChitChat I worked on lots of political campaigns and knew where all the players were during election day. Now not so much. I did head to the 4th Street Deli, which in its heyday was the spot. In the past couple years it’s been waning a bit, and yesterday it was downright dead. So bummed, but a few characters did show up.

AHD1_7838a (1) (Custom)

I knew when I read the mayor schedule and he was not scheduled to go here that the turnout for fun political characters would be low, especially at the 4th Street Deli. It seems that folks now go to the West Mt Airy spot – Relish. I did catch a few political peeps. On the right is Clark DeLeon ( For 20 years Clark DeLeon wrote a daily column for The Inquirer, a slice-of-life called The Scene – you can imagine I was a big fan, I tried not to fan out too much but I did get a selfie)  to the left is former 4th Street owner David Auspitz. In the back is George Norcross (white hair), former owner of Philadelphia Newspapers Media – ie Philly Inky & Daily News. – Under his reign his team hired me to work at Before I arrived Lynn Abraham had been eating with them.

HD1_7842 (Custom)

Larry Platt, who hired me at Philly Mag, then went on to run the Philly Media Network, and is now running The Philadelphia Citizen, with him is Harriet Lessy, , former gossip columnist at Philly Daily News, now running her political PR agency –  BUZZCommunications and guest. Also spotted in crowd former 6ABC Marc Howard, so maybe the 4th Street Deli is where former newsies hang out or as it seems Hughe’s former bosses.

AHD1_7838a (3) (Custom)

Senatorial candidate Katie McGinty arrived in her bright green lime outfit, greeted the politicos that had been hanging out, then spoke to reporters at the 4th Street Deli. I did notice on her election day schedule, that she added Relish to it on the day of the election (as the day befores schedule didn’t have it) and pushed back her visit to the Deli to 130PM. Last November the Deli was packed with politico’s, but come November I’ll probably head out to Relish for an early lunch, and catch a late lunch at the 4th Street Deli.

AHD1_7838a (2) (Custom)

Across the street from the 4th Street Deli. I heard Bernie Sanders spent his lunch hour shaking hands at Reading Terminal.

Between 5 and 8 PM I was photographing the Bank & Bourbon  2nd Anniversary. I was pleasently surprised that it was packed. I’ll have photos from the event in Philly Mag tomorrow, and a few additional ones here on PhillyChitChat on Friday, the food edition. Have you ever eaten there, it’s so good. They really do have the best steak in the City, I think better than my last pick which was Little Pete’s in Fairmount.

4-27-2016 8-26-51 AM (Custom)

I didn’t want to leave the party, but knowing that Hillary was going to give an election night speech in Philly I had to be there for this historic event. I hadn’t credentialed myself so I got in the general admission line with my friend. When we got to the door I saw the media door was next door and no one was in that line. I thought let me give it a try. I showed him my press pass, and my biz card. He googled my name and then he let Mike and I go in.  PS what sucks about having events at the Pa Convention Center is their proper address takes you to 11th and Arch. So many people were confused trying to find where it was really located, including me. This happens a lot with events. The two entrances are not exactly next to each other.

4-27-2016 8-27-13 AM (Custom)

Oh I love these t-shirts that a vendor was selling on the street outside the convention center doors. Not original, but cute.

Sheena Parveen, Erin Como & Jillian Mele, PLUS JASMINE V, Jream, Lee Woodruff & Andrew McCarthy and Zarwin Baum Little Smiles Event

Catching up on a few celebrity appearances in Philly, but I just haven’t had a chance to write about.
Within a matter of a few weeks Nashville, Tennesee’s Fox 17’s Erin Como came back into town for fun with her friends, which means we get a photo of her pretty TV friends away from the small screen. On this particular night 11/9/12) we all met at XIX bar for cocktails. The place was packed for a Friday night. Then we headed over to Rumor where I had to deflect the guys who trampled me on their way to chat with Sheena Parveen (r). Last Sunday we headed over to Parc for brunch (No pictures please we were up til the wee hours after the Sandy hockey charity event. They still looked rockin’ Jillian fresh faced as ever, Sheena almost unrecognized with her gorgeous hair in a pony tail. Marissa looks good all the time. She is blessed.). Surprisingly that place was packed too. I was surprised as it was 4 days after the glut fest of Thanksgiving. I had a delicious salad. Vasiliki Tsiouris, Opa Restuarant Alissa Ingram, Fox 29 producer, Erin Como, Fox 17 Nashville, Jillian Mele, reporter NBC10 Philadelphia, and Sheena Parveen, Weather expert NBC10 Philadelphia. (We spent a good portion of the brunch chatting snow, or as Marisa Magnatta from WMMR ask “Do you think it will snow this year?” Sheena said yes, and after yesterday her credibility skyrocketed. – Reminds me White House correspondent & Fairmount native, Kristen Welker was in town over the weekend, after spending Thanksgiving with her parents. Justin Pizzi and her met up at their old stomping grounds, the Kite and The Key for a late night bite on Saturday night. Congrats to Justin Pizzi on his new gig as Director of Communications at Aqua America.

Steppingstone held a Tea with author Lee Woodruff (center) at the Rittenhouse Hotel. Gretchen Burke, Vice Chair Volunteer at Steppingstone, went to school with Lee and hosted the event.  Woodruff  co-author of the best-selling In an Instant, and author of
Perfectly Imperfect Lee Woodruff garnered critical acclaim for the
compelling and humorous chronicle of her family’s journey to recovery
following her husband Bob’s roadside bomb injury in Iraq. At the tea she discussed her new book, Those We Love Most, which is a fictionalized version of a family going through trauma, certainly something she can relate too.

Jasmine V (Jasmine Villegas ) helped kick off Macy’s holiday season by participating in the holiday window unveiling, then participated in a mini concert for about 100 screaming fans in the courtyard near the Eagle. Above singing her heart out with her brother Jream.

Then she had a meet and greet in Juniors with a few fans. When I met her I thought she looked a lot like Selena Gomez, and now that the Biebs and her are done Jasmine V could move right in. Seems the Biebs and her were an item before Selena. He moved on from her. Maybe a reunion’s in the works?

Also in the house Mannequins own Andrew McCarthy, who filmed the movie in 1987 at the then John Wanamaker store, which is now Macy’s. He helped out with the unveiling of the windows, and hosted a meet and greet at the same time as the Justine V concert. Kinda bad timing I would say. Maybe the mommies would have like to have met him. The best part of all, head on over to Macy‘s (1300 Market Street  Philadelphia, PA 19107)  and enjoy the traditional holiday light show, which plays at the top of the hour until January1, but Christmas.
