Philly 2026 Ring It On

Philadelphia is rolling out a new initiative to energize neighborhood business corridors as the nation’s 250th anniversary approaches. The focus is on activating these areas through events, beautification efforts, and community programming.

The campaign, Ring It On! One Philly, A United Celebration, will spotlight 20 corridors across the city, with the goal of attracting more visitors, supporting small businesses, and creating more vibrant, welcoming commercial districts. “Ring It On! celebrates and uplifts the neighborhoods that define Philadelphia,” said Mayor Cherelle Parker. “Our neighborhoods are the heart of this city.”

The effort, first announced in September, when they first taught us about the City’s ABC’s – activations, beatifications, and celebrations. The plan includes expanding neighborhood festivals, introducing new programming, and enhancing corridors with improvements like tree plantings, upgraded lighting, benches, banners, and bike racks.

Plans are in place, and the City is ready to officially kicked off the Philly 2026 initiatives.

Earlier this month in Point Breeze they held a press conference which coincided with the Point Breeze Market Festival, which brought the corridor to life with live entertainment, local food trucks, vendors, and family-friendly activities.

City officials say the program will extend to two corridors in each of Philadelphia’s 10 City Council districts, reaching neighborhoods from Chinatown and South 9th Street to Germantown, Kensington, and Northeast Philadelphia to celebrate America’s 250th .

According to City Council President Kenyatta Johnson, launching the initiative in Point Breeze underscores the importance of investing in neighborhood commercial districts.

“Investing in our commercial corridors and public spaces is critical to strengthening neighborhoods across Philadelphia,” Johnson said. “I’m energized to see how this effort will have a lasting impact well beyond 2026.”

Kathryn Ott Lovell, President and CEO of the Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation and president and CEO of Philadelphia250,

We are going to make sure that this celebration pours out into the neighborhoods. All of the neighborhoods. We are going to make sure to involve and engage all of these communities

Aramark’s Building Community helped clean up the Point Breeze park finishing off with this cool mural for Philly’s 250th and beyond.

The initiative also includes a yearlong calendar of events ranging from food truck festivals and cultural celebrations to music events, neighborhood fairs and block parties.

Philadelphia’s Block Party Bonanza is open to any block that secures a city block party permit. Once approved, organizers receive a link to apply through Philadelphia250. Selected blocks will be chosen to ensure representation across all 10 City Council districts, with participation determined on a first-come, first-served basis for events held between May 23 and October 3, 2026.

Here’s the link for the Block Party Bonanza application.

The Franklin Institute’s “Universal” Exhibit Recap

Earlier this month I attended a sneak preview of party for the opening of the Franklin Institute’s Universal Exhibition

Universal Theme Parks: The Exhibition, a groundbreaking new exhibit that takes guests inside the immersive and innovative world of Universal Destinations & Experiences’ theme parks, made its world premiere at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia on February 14, 2026, in partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal.

The Franklin Institute’s new Universal exhibit invites visitors to explore humanity’s place in the cosmos through immersive science, technology, and storytelling. Guests can expect a highly visual experience that blends space exploration, physics, and the search for life beyond Earth, with interactive displays designed for both adults and families.

Large scale projections, hands on stations, and thought provoking installations help explain complex ideas like gravity, light, and the origins of the universe in ways that feel approachable and engaging. (Pel Productions photo)

Rather than feeling like a traditional museum gallery, the exhibit moves visitors through a journey that encourages curiosity and reflection, reminding us how small we are in the universe while celebrating human innovation and discovery.

Clean and Green for 2026

Last week I attended a press conference where Mayor Cherelle L Parker and the Office of Clean and Green Initiatives in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, announced the launch of Gateways to Philadelphia, an anti-graffiti and highway beautification initiative supporting the Mayor’s goal of making Philadelphia the safest, cleanest, and greenest big city ahead of America’s 250th birthday.

This is going to be a very exciting project, one which will benefit Philadelphia well beyond 2026. Years ago there was a beautiful mural along this wall, but during the pandemic it became a magnet for graffiti. “Our goal is not just to clean up but to transform these spaces,” said Carlton Williams, Director, Office of Clean and Green Initiatives

Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, City of Philadelphia, Secretary of Transportation Michael B. Carroll, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Chief Strategy and Partnership Officer Trish Wellenbach, City of Philadelphia, Senior Vice President Donna Frisby-Greenwood, The Pew Charitable Trusts, Director Carlton Williams, Office of Clean and Green Initiatives, President Matt Rader, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Founder and Executive Director Jane Golden, Mural Arts Philadelphia

Who’s in the guest gallery: The guests watching the press conference were muralists and employees who have been working on the projects. I also spotted Tyrone Dixon, 2026 Deputy Director of Philadelphia, and Michael Newmuis, Philly Director of 2026 as well as Manny Smith, the Mayor’s First Deputy Director of Communications, Mayor’s Office

Michael B. Carroll, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Mayor Cherelle L Parker unveil the 30th Street Station walls, medians and ramps.

“This year, Pennsylvania is expecting more than 209 million visitors,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “Under Governor Shapiro’s leadership, we’re hard at work making sure the Commonwealth is ready for folks across the world to visit and celebrate Pennsylvania’s integral role in the founding of our country 250 years ago. Our highways are critical entry point to the region, and we’re excited to work with the City of Philadelphia and our other partners to give visitors a warm welcome to Philadelphia.”

“This project reflects a shared vision for transforming Philadelphia’s most visible spaces expanding on PHS’s long-time commitment to making our gateways and public spaces beautiful,” said Matt Rader, President of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. “This spring and for years to come, Philadelphians and visitors alike will experience the impact of that vision. With more than 85 trees, 500 shrubs, nearly 2,700 ornamental grasses, and over 96,000 bulbs planted, this holistic effort brings partners together around a common goal and creates a landscape that is greener, more resilient, and welcoming to everyone who enters the city.”

The targeted list of priority locations includes:

  • 26th Street Gateway at Penrose Avenue
  • South Street Bridge, walls, medians and on/off-ramps
  • 30th Street Station walls, medians and ramps
  • I-76 and I-676 interchange at 15th and 16th Streets and Vine Street
  • I-76 and I-676 interchange at 6th and 8th Streets and Callowhill/Vine Streets
  • I-76 and I-95 interchange at 2nd and 3rd Streets and Callowhill/Vine Streets
  • CSX/Amtrak wall at Spring Garden Street

The work started last fall, and will be complete this spring.

Love this for us!!
