Fashion at The 41st annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show

Freezing Friday, but I’m headed out to shoot the opening of the Rothman Ice Rink at City Hall at Noon. Hope to see you there. This weekend The 41st annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show is at the Philadelphia Convention Center. I enjoy it every year, but this year it was especially great, contemporary and affordable. This year our international exhibitors are from Korea. It’s great to see the arts and crafts created in a different region available in person. I love their booths too, they wanted them set up a certain way, very clean lines. I love guests who attend craft shows, they’re always so stylish.

This year we welcome 25 talented artists from Korea. All work is for sale. The show is there all weekend, here are the hours.

Dunek also published the JerseyMan/PhillyMan magazine, where his family, daughters Ashley, Taylor and Jamie, and wife Terri also help out on the publication – it’s a real family affair. On Thursday, November 2, 2017, JerseyMan and PhillyMan Magazine hosted their 3rd annual Unmasking the Legacy Gala to celebrate its man and woman of the year honorees at Ballroom at the Ben. The masquerade-themed celebration celebrates 10 men and women who have had profound impacts on their community. A portion of each ticket sold benefits the charity or non-profit chosen by the two honorees with the most ticket sales, and who are acknowledge with a special recognition.

Breathe: TORC Yoga is Officially Open – See Who Was at the Preview Party

On Friday, November 3, TORC Yoga previewed its new studio space in Old City, at 31 S. 2nd Street. The special preview party for the yoga studio, which is the first in Old City, unveiled a spacious room with an adjoining second practice space, featuring both untouched and whitewashed brick walls and dark hardwood floors. Health conscious guests came out to preview the space, as well as hear about the various yoga practices which will be taught by Sheena Ohlig and Kristin Monzo, co founders of TORC Yoga.

Friends and family also got a chance to see the smaller details, like the unique pipe and reclaimed wood shelving and incredible floor-to-ceiling window spanning an entire wall of the main studio space. TORC Yoga will be releasing exciting class updates soon – follow on social media @torcyoga to keep up!

Last a confetti cannon signaled a last push for the “Pie in the Sky” campaign at MANNA, after Sheila Hess, Phila City Rep, read a proclamation from Mayor Jim Kenney declaring November 2, 2017 as official Pie Day in Philadelphia as Sue Daugherty, RD LDN – CEO looks on; MANNA‘s Pie in the Sky is their largest annual fundraiser, and helps raise crucial funds to support our clients. All pies are purchased online at www.mannapies.org and can be picked up at over 50 locations in the greater Philadelphia area and Southern New Jersey just in time for Thanksgiving. Last day to order is November 17!

Our volunteers are the secret ingredient to pie success – and we need YOU! Kick off Thanksgiving week helping with pie distribution: working in our warehouse, delivering pies to pickup sites, and staffing pickup sites. Dr. Jen Cauldle, a regular on CBS3Philly, will be stopping in to see Dr. Oz today, which airs on Fox 29 at 1pm. The Dr’s are going
to be chatting about the latest Alzheimer’s research.

I officially stepped down as Director of NOTO Philadelphia. It was a tough decision to make, being a part of such an incredible project has been quite the journey. However, it is time to focus on some personal hospitality ventures that will soon showcase.

The Rest of the Photos: 4th Annual Shyamaween bash

I hope everyone had an awesome week. What a great Halloween Week. I think this year more than any there were more parties, and more people serious about dressing up for the spooktacular event. No where was it more evident than at this year’s Shyamaween, and how excited was I that I was able to photograph the event. So grateful for the opportunity, as most of you know it was a bucket list item for me. I’m a huge fan of The Shyamalan’s having photographed them over the past decade and being familiar with their work, and charity work. Plus they throw one heck of a party. I didn’t stay long as I was also shooting Philly Fights Cancer Round 3 the same night. Thankfully they were both located near exits on 95 so I was able to jet between each of the events. I started with Whoopi & John Legend at 5 – 730PM, then Shyamaween, then back to PFC and Earth Wind & Fire. I’ll write about that event Monday or Tuesday. Amazing, so beautiful too.

Rest Strawberry Mansion Bridge Friday

M. Night and Dr. Bhavna Shyamalan hosted their fourth annual Shyamaween bash on Saturday, October 28th at the Punch Line Club in Fishtown. The tagline for the event is very appropriately: Be Bad. Do Good. The 400+ guests, all dressed in wickedly good costumes, partied the night away for a great cause! Guests enjoyed a special performance by two-time Grammy nominee Andra Day and then danced to the wee hours to the spinning of DJ Ed Christof. Catering for the main event was provided by the Vetri Family, and the Shyamalans’ friends Kate Jacoby and Rich Landau, celebrated chef owners of vegan restaurants Vedge, V Street, and Whiz Kid, provided late-night eats at the after party. All proceeds from the party benefit the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation a charitable foundation that invests in emerging leaders whose grassroots efforts are putting an end to poverty and inequality in their communities around the world.

The M. Night Shyamalan Foundation supports remarkable leaders, through their organizations, working to remove the barriers created by poverty and inequality, which prevent individuals and communities from unleashing their full potential. They do this in the United States by closing the educational achievement gap focusing on MNSF’s five tenets. They do this in developing countries by assuring that basic human needs are met and rights are protected, and ultimately providing increased access to educational opportunities.

InLiquid believes that good art is at arms reach in Philadelphia and strives to break down myths that one must go to New York, Miami, or beyond to find valuable and meaningful art to make their house a home. And most importantly, everyone can and should be a collector.

The Benefit returns to the newly renovated Icebox Project Space at Crane Arts, transformed into a three-day showcase: VIP, Young Professionals, and the Main Event silent-auctioning a specially select group of artists.

South Street Halloween Bash Was Spooktacular, Really One of the Best Family Fun Events

Last week I hit up a lot of neighborhood parties, and parties in general. One of the most fun, filled activity celebrations was on South Street, those folks know how to party. South Street Headhouse District had plenty of tricks and treats for children and adults of all ages during the neighborhood’s annual Halloween festivities.

Spooktacular I also saw a lot of folks who had attended the East Passyunk Halloween festivities at the South Street event, as EPA’s family event was scheduled 11AM – 1PM making it the perfect party hopping situation. Remember that for next year as well.
A few of the activities that were held at South Street Headhouse included: Pumpkin putt-putt golf (which was so fun) * Pumpkin pie eating contest (new) * Jack o’ lantern contest * Costume contests * Free neighborhood trick-or-treating at dozens of businesses * Aerial performances from Philadelphia School of Circus Arts * Pumpkin decorating * Hay wagon rides * Straw hay bail maze (so fun, I got lost) * Seasonal bites * Live music * Magic show * Adult beverages with Commonwealth Ciders and Philadelphia Brewing Company * Winter coat charity drive

South Street businesses formally opened their doors to welcome all the boos and ghouls dressed up in costume from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Families Picked up their list at PumpkinFest and look for ghosts hanging outside all participating businesses. Children 12 and under, had to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. It was a beautiful Halloween celebration on South Street.

I’ll be running Shymaweeen either later today or Sunday. Must head to the radio station for my gig, then I have a few trees I must see.

Bart Blatstein Develops Piazza Parking Lot, James MacAvoy, Holland Taylor, Eddie Alderson, & Meek Mill

Hello Thursday. Last Saturday I was at Hound-O-Ween at Schmidt’s Commons at the Piazza and I noticed the parking lot across the street was fenced off. So I text Bart to ask him, and coincidentally I ran into him later that evening at Philly Fights Cancer as well.

This is what he wrote me back when I asked if he was developing the property: Bart said he was working on concept for this amazing parcel of land.
He said it would be complementary to the amazing Piazza.

He said don’t worry about parking if you’re heading to Wahlburgers, which is in a building still owned by his company Tower Investments, inc. the glass building on the left. On the right is The Schmidt’s Commons at Piazza, which he previously owned and it was called The Piazza at Schmidts. Here’s my write up of the opening night. So crazy to read it, 2009

There’s a free parking lot across the street catty-corner on a smaller parcel of land still owned by Tower Investments, specifically for Wahlburgers . The parking lot that he is creating a great concept on is the brown parcel of land. On the east-side of the “Piazza Parking Lot” is where The Schmidt’s Commons built a residential parking garage for their residents that live in the apartments. There’s still plenty of parking nearby, and I hear Schmidt’s Commons is in talks to partner with a nearby parking facility. I can’t wait to see what the visionary Blatstein is going to create on the Piazza Parking Lot.

Glass movie update: This past weekend Sarah Paulson and her girlfriend, who I adore, Holland Taylor visited The Barnes Museum right before heading to Shyamaween . Maybe on a tip from Samuel L Jackson who stopped by last weekend. We probably won’t see them out and about in Philadelphia for a few weeks, as they’ve headed to Allentown to film for a few weeks in The Allentown State Hospital. According to Sharon Pinkenson, Executive Director of Greater Philadelphia Film Office, all three main characters are filming there – Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis and James McAvoy.

All three have been spotted about and about in Allentown. McAvoy posed for a photo with a Lehigh Fitness Trainer and was seen pumping serious iron. Jackson grabbed a bite to eat at and posed with a worker; While Willis , McAvoy and Shyamalan were all seen at the Allentown Brew Works. Earlier in the day Willis was generous with a tip according to a bellhop. Rumor has it they’ll be back in town to film a few more scenes near Center City, maybe that subway shot at Snyder, and wrap shortly after Thanksgiving, just in time for the Creed 2 production office to open.

Congrats to my friends Kristen Alderson and her brother Eddie Alderson who participated in the LLS #lightthenight walk in Philadelphia last Saturday night to raise much needed funds for life saving research to battle blood cancers. Eddie has been battling cancer for the past year. It’s great to see him out, and doing better. Sorry I missed it.

Meek Mill was at the Sixers game tonight, but last night he was bothering my favorite candy lady. Looks like this is on Walnut Street, he kept trying to get her to give away her candy since it was Halloween. He’s been spotted all over town recently filming music videos.

Levy, founding chief executive of Philadelphia’s Center City District, with the prestigious 2017 Vision for Philadelphia Award at the Union League on Monday, October 23, 2017. The mission of Philadelphia Hospitality, Inc. is to promote the Greater Philadelphia Region as a premier destination for cultural and historical travel.

The evening began with a VIP meet and greet with Paul Levy in the Lincoln Library Room. Afterwards everyone gathered in the Grant Room for a cocktail party before heading upstairs to Lincoln Hall for a tribute dinner honoring Paul Levy.
