Official Comment from Coda After the Assault That Occurred Outside Their Establishment

“We are disgusted by the assault that took place early Friday morning outside our establishment. The man who punched our member does not work for CODA. That individual did not act, nor had permission to act, on behalf of our venue. It was our staff that called 911 to report the incident and CODA management has and will continue to cooperate fully with the Philadelphia Police Department. CODA has no tolerance for violence such as this and we pride ourselves on maintaining a safe and positive space where people can enjoy live entertainment.”

I’ve been to Coda many times, and it’s always a fun place to go and the staff is very caring and professional. – HughE

Uh oh, It’s a Slippery Slope for Slide in The City – Looks Like They’re Not Coming Again This Year

You’ll recall last year The Slide in the City was on scheduled for a stop in Philly, but was cancelled after it was announce (it did go on as scheduled in Lancaster, Pa, where it’s scheduled again Aug 21, or as I like to call it the day after Ms Streisand sings for us at Wells Fargo). Call this Ground Hogs Day cause there seems to be trouble in river city again… (that’s a Music Man quote) for the 1,000 ft slip N slide with music, food and vendors  festival. Hopefully it’s not the naysayers that complain you can’t “close” a city park even for a fun couple of days on a slip and slide. Anyway here’s the press release I just got from the organizers.  It seems Slide in the City didn’t receive a permit before they announced the event. Below is Slide’s a few highlights from their press release.

Slide

Plans for Slide the City Philadelphia were announced last week. The announcement was made based on written communication from Councilman Henon’s office indicating that permits were 99% complete. Unfortunately, the permit may be delayed which could affect the proposed date.   In a recent conference call, Slide the City requested information as to why the permit is being held up.  They were informed that someone had already reserved the same location on the same date.

“It’s unfortunate we are running into issues bringing this one-of-a-kind event to Philly for the first time,” said Slide the City event director Chris Conran. “If the date and venue were already spoken for, we would have liked to have known on February 12th when we submitted the permit application.”

Slide

Slide the City was working closely with Playworks to bring the event to Philadelphia. Slide the City will be offering a free day of slides for underprivileged youth on the Friday before the event.  The charity was set up to be the title sponsor for the event and helped get Slide the City in contact with Councilman Henon’s office, who was working to provide the permit for the event.

Slide the City has not received an official permit denial or a reason for not receiving a permit. After repeated phone calls and emails, Slide the City received their first response from the Special Events and Parks and Rec Department this morning without any more information regarding the delayed permit.

Slide

Until this morning, all communication to this point had been through the councilman’s office. The only information given to Slide the City about the delayed permit was, “After much discussion about Slide the City’s event, the City and its partners have determined that we can not move forward with it.”  “If the only reason the event does not take place is because we sent a press release announcing that the event was coming to Philadelphia, I hope we can resolve that issue,” said Slide the City PR Manager Amy Gessel.  With over 25,000 people on the waiting list, Slide the City hopes these issues can be resolved in a timely manner so that Slide the City Philadelphia can be a cornerstone event for the city this year and years to come.

The check in, and coat check area. I just wanted to show the nice set up with the tables and coat check. I love that they even included trees and flowers to enhance the area.

Wheel of Fortune Celebrates Philadelphia – Plus my Q&A With Vanna and Pat

Wheel of Fortune is doing a week of shows featuring Philadelphia, May 16-20, as part of their great American Cities series.

The series airs at 730PM Monday through Friday

HD1_0922 (Custom)

Pat Sajak and Vanna White spent an action-packed few days in Philadelphia last October doing promo spots at several locations including the Philadelphia Zoo where I caught up with them. HD1_0986 (Custom)

Thanks to 6ABC I was able to ask America’s Sweetheart Couple, together for 33 years, a few questions during their visit last year.
Here is what I found out.

  • The entire year is filmed in 35 days, over a 9 month period. Ever since they went from manual letters to electronic letters, they’ve been able to film an entire week in one day.
  •  “I have never worn the same dress twice, and I’ve worn over 6,000 gowns, ” all loaners from designers! Once or twice she’s bought a gown from the designer to wear to a function.
  • When she’s not on TV or making a public appearance “I am a blue jeans and no make up kind of girl off camera. I also go to bed early and wake up early.”

    Wheel of Fortune

    photo provided

  • Vanna loves to crochet, and has her own line of yarn, “Vanna’s Choice,” she’s donated over $1 million dollars to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
  • Pat Sajak is a big fan of hockey and his favorite team is the Washington Capitals, as he lives in Maryland close to DC. When the Caps play the Flyers you’ll find him in the stands cheering them.
  • He’s never really gotten mad at a contestant for missing an easily guessed word, even though the internet disagrees with him.
  • The one question they are asked the most is have they ever dated each other – NO; Pat’s been married to his wife Lesly for 39 years.
  • They’re kinda tired of hearing people call out to them “Can I Buy A Vowel”, which is consistently done from fans even before a hello!
  • They loved their time in Philly, the food is delicious. They said eating at Townsend is a must stop for anyone who visits Philadelphia. In fact they both told me it was a reason to visit Philadelphia.

Wheel of FortuneAll 15 contestants are from the Philadelphia area and include a middle school and history teacher, a graduate student, a firefighter, and a local business owner. Prizing will be sourced from local businesses and the audience will include Philadelphia-based sweepstakes winners flown in for the festivities.

Wheel of Fortune

To fill the audience with Philadelphia-area residents, there was an on-air viewership “Watch and Win: Wheel of Fortune Hollywood Experience” sweepstake during which 6abc viewers had the opportunity to win a four-day “Hollywood Experience” for two including a visit to Sony Pictures Studios to watch a taping of Wheel of Fortune’s “Great American Cities: Philadelphia Week.” A total of 25 winners were chosen throughout the week.
Wheel of Fortune
To select contestants for the week of shows, the game show sent its promotional vehicle, the Wheelmobile, to the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. Final auditions were held in Center City Philadelphia.

6ABC’s Match Game is LQQKING FOR YOU

“ABC is mounting a revival of the star-studded, big-money 1970s comedy panel show Match Game — and 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin has signed on to host, Vulture has learned. The network and producer FremantleMedia North America announced that they are teaming up for ten one-hour episodes of Match Game 2016,” Baldwin’s Match Game revival will air at 10 p.m. on Sundays on ABC as part of a three-hour game-show block launching June 26. The block will also include the Michael Strahan-hosted $100,000 Pyramid revival and the return of the Steve Harvey-hosted Celebrity Family Feud. (THR)

Match Game

Match Game pits contestants against each other as they try to match the answers of six celebrities in a game of fill-in-the-blank. It’s often quite funny, similar to Mad Libs, but shorter. Match Game is looking for contestants, clever and charismatic they say. If you’re that person, Melissa Leonard to think of one person, than contact them.

TO APPLY: www.castingmatchgame.com

As part of his deal to host what Alec Baldwin is calling a “limited series,” the actor will donate his appearance fee to arts-related organizations via the Hilaria and Alec Baldwin Foundation.

New Steakhouse and Eateries Come To Sugarhouse Casino

New Steakhouse and Eateries Opened at Philly’s Sugarhouse Casino officially yesterday.

Sugarhouse

SugarHouse Casino officially celebrated its completed expansion with a special appreciation ceremony and ribbon cutting yesterday, Monday, May 9 at 11 a.m.

Sugarhouse

I was excited to check out the new eatery Hugo’s Frog Bar & Chop House

Sugarhouse

Sugarhouse had invited us tastemakers and the media to try it out last September when they announced the new restaurant.

Sugarhouse

It was delicious. I remember the steak was so tasty.

Sugarhouse

I didn’t eat there last night as I was more excited to try out another new eatery there which I will tell you about in a moment.

Sugarhouse

outdoor dining. In the warmer days

Sugarhouse

another new eatery at Sugarhouse, which I will mention in a second. I love the decor of the Hugo’s.

It’s definitely a high end steak and seafood place.

5-10-2016 10-42-04 AM (Custom)

But they also had more affordable choices under the local favorites section.

5-10-2016 10-42-49 AM (Custom)

The dessert are crazy priced, we asked if these prices represented a whole cake or pie, but they didn’t. I really wanted to see how big they were, wait cross that off as our server said the banana pie title was wrong (Kory and I burst out laughing when they crossed out the word big on the most expensive choice.) We didn’t want to take our chances to see if the slice was big enough for two at that price, so we headed out the door to where I wanted to eat.

Sugarhouse

Tacconelli’s Pizzeria. I always wanted to eat there, it was delicious. So glad it’s easier to park at Sugarhouse to grab some of Philly’s favorite eateries

Sugarhouse

like Geno’s too

Sugarhouse

Soon Saxbys. And back there is Revolution Grill, which is owned by Sugarhouse, but oddly was closed at 9PM. We would have liked to see what they had to offer, especially dessert. Hopefully Saxbys will have dessert cause none of the places in the food court have it.

Sugarhouse New Eateries

Sugarhouse

What they do have is this cool “phone booth” on the gaming floor so you can have privacy on your phone call.

Sugarhouse

And I love this, great #selfie station. Good Luck!!! And BTW Kory and I left a lot of money in the “Birthday Party” slot machine. Feel free to go get it out.

Justin Bieber Plays Where are you now With Philly Fans and his Cross Face Tattoo

Justin Bieber plays “Where are you now”

Justin Beiber

with Fans at the Ritz Carlton,

Justin Beiber

The above shot was sent from a fan on Sunday as Biebs headed to the Wells Fargo, thanks!  (I wasn’t there I was at Will Smith ‘s mom and sister, Ellen’s house for a celebrity brunch, which you can read about tomorrow in PhillyMag.com) Saturday Biebs snuck in and out the door closest to the condos next door and into a waiting SUV, thwarting the efforts of about 50 girls waiting. Sunday the fans waited near that door, but Biebs left via the hotel side door and into the waiting bus, and didn’t even wave one lucky fan who got a glimpse reported .

Justin Beiber

Fans waiting at the Wells Fargo Center were much luckier as Biebs greeted them both Saturday and Sunday.

Justin Bieber

BTW another story going on with Bieber. Allegedly Friday night he got a tiny cross tattoo under his eye, as shown here and reported by several glossy mags.

Justin Bieber

But Saturday night when he performed at The Wells Fargo Center it disappeared. Where are you now?  Oh wait people say it’s on the other side, I forgot instagrams are backwards. But in the shots from The Wells Fargo it seems to be missing too. Must be really small.

Although some fans got a little closer than the fence. I like what this dad says about his daughter, and the meet and greets, which are now as you know discontinued. Instead fans have to do with cardboard cutouts, which seem to be prolific at the concerts.

Justin Bieber

Flyers Fans Lost Their Sh*t over Justin Bieber wearing #16, retired Bobby Clarke’s number on his gifted Flyers Jersey. Maybe the 16 is a combination of the last jersey he got from the Flyers, which had a 1 on it, and his favorite number which is 6? Oh or that it’s 2016, hmm. Thanks reader for the obvious.
