17 Bridges filming in Philadelphia- What I Know So Far – Spoiler Alert
And Links to Party I Photographed this Week at bottom of page

17 Bridges filming began in Philly in September.

It stars Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Sienna Miller, J.K. Simmons (Flashpoint), Keith David (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series) and  Taylor Kitsch (He played sinister leader David Koresh in WACO last year, but he’s mostly know as the heartthrob from Friday Night Lights)

This past week, and all of next week they will be filming around 20th and Sansom Street, on 20th Street all the way up to Market Street. In the movie this intersection is known as3rd St and Havenmayer which is in Brooklyn, NY

The facades of some of our favorite eateries have been altered for the set like Whiskey Bar, Shake Shack. Business hasn’t been affected as much as you think because they are still open everyday until around 10PM when they would normally close. Then the movie magic happens. Check out these photos of the Open and Closed shots. BTW Tinto is not open as they have altered the inside for the movie and they do pay then extra for being closed for 3 weeks of filming.
All of the filming is taken place at night. Spoiler Alert the movie is set in one 24hr period, and mostly at night.

See windows uncovered, Shake Shack is open for business

On set last week was David Keith, Taylor Kitsch, who are having dinner at Mosto, or as we like to call it TINTO in Philly. I spoke to someone connected to the restaurant and they said the producers were considering to keep the name the same except theres a coffee shop in NYC called Tinto’s and they didn’t want to confuse anyone.

Next week nearly the entire cast will be filming, along with about 200 extras as there will be many different scenes regarding the chase through Manhattan, with fake gunfire, explosions and even helicopters above. Notices have gone out
to people who live in the area, so no one thinks it’s the real thing.

This past week they did have a minor police chase, with gunfire. They also filmed for several nights inside the MOSTO, and in the ally next to the eatery. Note the police car has crashed into the “suspects” car on the right coming out of the alley.

Yes Philly is stepping in to act as NYC again. Next to questions about Taylor Kitsch’s whereabouts, this is the next most asked question, why? We should all be embracing that a major production wants to film here in Philly, we know this is often the case from many TV shows and films, where they are filmed elsewhere than where they depict, so many productions head north to Canada. The Greater Philadelphia Film Office, along with the Pittsburgh Film Office and The Pennsylvania Film Industry Association (PaFIA) work hard to get maintain a decent tax credit for film and TV Productions that spend at least 60% of their total budget within the state. AND We still benefit, not only do we get to showcase our beautiful City, but so many Philadelphian’s are employed by the productions, plus actors, and people connected with the film are housed here, they eat in our restaurants, the buy goods and merchandise here and even the gas used in the vehicles that transport the cast & crew, all the way down to the cars that are involved in the police chases, is bought in Philadelphia. That’s a big boost to our local economy when a film is shot in Philly or #phillywood as I like to call it.
Speaking of dining: Chadwick Boseman had lunch at Estia on Wednesday night with 10 people for dinner, the Greek restaurant at 1405-07 Locust St, Philadelphia, PA (They provided this photo) Chadwick loved the octopus, spanakopita, estia chips, and his entrée was Whole Sea Bass. Posing here with Saki. Earlier in the week he was spotted at Harp & Crown having dinner with his dad.

Eating nearby was Dr. J and his family. As far as Estia could tell neither Dr J or Chadwick saw each other. Such a bummer.
Recently Chadwick Boseman was spotted at NOTO with DJ Hollywood and Dray Ali.

Last night Boseman hosted a party for cast and crew in Center City to mark the mid-point of shooting.
The film started September 24, and is scheduled to end around November 24.
Filming this week will again be overnight, so I’ll try and be there to give you the details so you can grab some sleep, but
remember if you hear gunfire, small explosions and helicopters above, it’s probably just this production and it’s helping our local economy.

This year, for the first time there’s a New Jersey non-profit being considered, The Seeing Eye a philanthropic organization whose mission is to enhance the independence, dignity, and self-confidence of blind people through the use of Seeing Eye® dogs; The other non-profits are Little Smiles a volunteer driven children’s charity and PAWS is an organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless and at-risk animals.

Little Smiles: The volunteer-driven nonprofit works directly with doctors, nurses, and social workers to provide gifts and fun activities to children impacted by serious illness, homelessness, or tragedy. Through their programming, Little Smiles aims to create “little smiles” for children in unfortunate circumstances.

Maybe you saw the article in Philly.com or PhillyVoice about the Garces Group’s Center City tapas bar Tinto being closed through the end of October as it serves as the filming location for a major Hollywood production currently in town. That Hollywood movie is none other than 17 Bridges starring Black Panther’s Chadwick Boseman, Sienna Miller, Keith David , JK Simmons, heartthrob Taylor Kitsch and just added according to Variety, to the cast ‘Deuce’ Star Jamie Neumann

Unite For Her is committed to helping women diagnosed with breast cancer navigate their way through treatment by providing complementary therapies designed to promote physical and emotional wellness.  Wells Fargo Center was one of the first arenas to host four consecutive nights of WWE® action as part of the Royal Rumble weekend in January.

Photos: Boo at the Zoo Haunts Us For Another Year

I had a chance to cover something I’ve always heard was a fun time, and the critics were right….

Don’t be a scaredy cat….check out Philadelphia Zoo’s annual Boo at the Zoo. Set out on a not-so-spooky adventure through “Extinction Graveyard” and run wild at the trick-or-treat stations situated around the Zoo. Dress up in your favorite costume, enjoy festive fall offerings available for purchase (think hot apple cider!) and have a bootiful Halloween!

Get there early. I arrived at 10:30am, and there was a long long line to exit the highway onto the zoo road, then a wait to get into the Zoo Parking Garage, which is my favorite spot to park. We parked on the top floor, that never happened. The Zoo assures me that there are plenty of parking lots to accommodate the upwards of 20,000 people that may attend Boo at the Zoo.

Boo at the Zoo! You can spend the night at the Zoo on October 19, 20, 26 or 27 – Overnighters can beat the crowds and access premium parking with an arrival the night before! Also featured at Boo at the Zoo overnights are spooky crafts and activities, designed to teach children about critters of the night.  And you get to enter the Zoo the next day before everyone else. Bring your favorite costume to wear.

Spooky Overnights are for ages 6+. All overnight guests must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.

Emmy Winners, Celebrities in Town, Cake – Tasty Talk Chit Chat

I was wondering this morning, I wonder if Seattle is having an unusually sunny season as we are not. It was gorgeous over the weekend despite the sun. Yesterday I went to Boo at the Zoo. What a fun event. Photos will be published on Philly Voice and CBSPhilly today and I will have the links tomorrow along with additional photos for PhillyChitChat. Let’s see what is happening in Philly in another edition of HughE Around Town.
Congrats to Bianca Ryan, you’ll recall she won was the first winner of NBC‘s America’s Got Talent at the age of eleven. Since then she’s recorded a couple CD’s, appeared in movies, on the stage and finished her education. Now she’s back doing big things. In January she’s appearing in America’s Got Talent Champions. Best news today, Classic Cake will be opening on Halloween in Suburban Station, 16th & JFK

I had dinner at Red Owl Tavern last week and it was delicious. I always have been a big fan of Red Owl Tavern, but now with  new Executive Chef Robert Surdam it’s really a place you need to go. I had the duck, and you know I love my duck. I can’t wait to go back and try more menu items, like this delicious candied treat called The Kitchen Sink. Gabe Kapler, Phillies, was at Davio’s yesterday where he enjoyed a Long Bone and 2 Over Easy eggs at the bar while watching football on a Sunday in Philadelphia.
You know it’s the height of the social season and I’m limited to covering client events. I was sad i could meet Laura, I mean Genie Francis at the Phila Inquirer aging event this weekend.

And doubly sad once again I couldn’t make it to the Women’s Conference again this year, but thousands of my friends did including one best friend, Sheila Hess here with Serena Williams.
I did make it to the Pink Tie Gala, raising funds for Komen Philadelphia. Natasha Brown and Jim Donovan did the MC honors. We grabbed a selfie in between moments at the mic, with his friend Joe. Cute couple alert.

Congrats to Sue Serio, Fox29 for being recognized at the MidAtlantic Emmy’s this past weekend.

program which I participated in, as many people did in Philly, and connected to the American Foundation of Suicide Awareness.

Speaking of Denise Nakano, and the NBC10 Philadelphia team are moving from the Bala Cynwyd Studios to the new Comcast Technology Center next week and begin broadcasting from there. They will truly be NBC10 Philadelphia now. You might recall I was the one who broke that story, even before the NBC reporters knew. It was the talk of twitter, and officials at first denied it was happening. And now it has. So excited to have my friends in town. Who I’ll see tonight as well when I cover the

On September 23, 2018, Les Dames d’Escoffier Philadelphia hosted their 3rd Annual Heritage Farm Dinner at Bartram’s Garden, which recognizes women for their accomplishments in the food, beverage or hospitality industry.

This year, five women were honored with the Outstanding in Her Field award, including Claire Boasi, Susanna Foo, Aliza Green, Kathleen Mulhern and Judy Wicks. Proceeds from the dinner benefitted the LDEI Scholarship program.

17 Bridges Filming In Center City, and where they’ll be This Weekend

17 Bridges, the story about a cop ( Chadwick Boseman ) chasing a criminal in Manhattan and closing the 17 bridges that lead into the Big Apple so the criminal (Taylor Kitsch) can be caught, and the women reporter (Sienna Miller) covering the story can fall in love with one of those characters I bet. The film started shooting in Philly 9/24/18 and has been non stop action since. First shooting near 20th and Market, then in the Rittenhouse Square area, before heading to

the Old City area, as well as the Loft District.

This past week they filmed 3 overnight shoots in Chinatown. Philly is doubling as NYC again, and we’ll take it, and the revenue movies generate for our area. I took these shots on my IPhone as the set PA’s and Security were tight on the No Photo Rule.

Although some of the scenes took place on 10th Street,

most of the action took place in an ally nearby, Appletree Street. Thankfully the weather was
damp, and the movie set didn’t need to be washed down to create that spooky, gritty feel.

Extras walking along Tenth Street to create background and block out the folks eating dinner in those Chinese restaurants.

Hey Chadwick and Sienna walking from Appletree Street and the Chinese restaurants located there. It’s movie magic cause there are NO eateries on that street. Just houses, and a hotel.

On Saturday Fox 29’s Alex Holley spotted Chadwick Boseman at the Old City Fall Festival.

17 Bridge star Taylor Kitsch was spotted at Cosi on Market Street earlier this week. He posed for photos with a couple fans. Friday and Saturday the production moves to the actual Manhattan for filming. Keep the tips coming, and I’ll keep you informed as well on my social media.
