DJ Jazzy Jeff Jazzes Up Cheers For Chop Plus the Details on the Event

Most of the time my columns show you who was at the event, and very little of the ambiance. Going forward I want to change that. If a column is placed in a media outlet, and it was particularly spectacular, I’m going to put the photos in PhillyChitChat and tell you who was behind the fun.

Cheers for CHOP is a celebratory evening benefiting Emergency Medicine
at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). This festive event
will include outstanding entertainment, cocktails, and an incredible
silent and live auction.

Last year’s second-annual Cheers for CHOP raised more than $675,000 for

guests enjoyed a fabulous evening with a live performance by

Revolution Taco Expands Into Burgers, sorta… SugarHouse Absorbs The Palm

Starting this week, Revolution Taco (2015 Walnut Street) debuts a
secret, off-menu burger (6oz) (BTW a quarter pounder weighs 4 ounces.) The Revolution Burger will not appear on the
menu or website, and will only be available by request at the counter.
Only six will be made per day, and once they are sold that is it for the
day!

The Revolution Burger is an Indian Ridge local dry-age beef
blend of rib-eye and t-bone, topped with house bacon, with Cooper
cheese, with roasted poblano crema and avocado chimichurri sauce. The
bacon is made from Stryker Farms pork belly that is cured in-house with
garlic and cascabel chilis. Served on a brioche roll from Breakin’ Bread
Bakery. The burger will sell for $10.00 each.

PHILADELPHIA—February
23, 2016—
SugarHouse
Casino and The Palm Restaurant jointly announced today that SugarHouse will make
job offers to all of The Palm’s
Philadelphia staff. The Palm announced in mid-February that its iconic South
Broad Street location will close for renovations after dinner service on
February 29, 2016. The Palm, located in The Bellevue since 1989, will re-open in
late fourth quarter 2016 or early 2017, when its dramatic update will be
revealed.
Until
then, The Palm’s
talented front- and back-of-house teams, led by general manager Jim Haney, were
facing uncertainty about their future.
Enter SugarHouse Casino, whose $164 million expansion on Delaware Avenue
includes seven food and beverage outlets—among them, Hugo’s
Frog Bar & Chop House by Chicago’s
famed Gibsons Restaurant Group.
“We
have enormous respect for The Palm brand, Jim Haney and his team. They have a
well-earned reputation for delivering superior, personalized
service,”
said
Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino.  “They’re
also our friends. They’re
facing a challenging situation, and we’re
actively recruiting. It seemed like an opportunity for a win-win.”
“We
are thrilled SugarHouse Casino is welcoming our Philadelphia family to their
team,” said Jeff Phillips, chief operating officer of Palm Restaurant Group.
“Many of our employees have been here since opening day and are not able to
relocate for opportunities in other Palm cities. Knowing that their interruption
in employment will be minimal, or better yet, non-existent, is the best-case
scenario.”

Double Knot Review, PLUS New Eatery Will Have A Bowling Alley, Modells Makes A Move, Coach Mellner Cracks Up

Good Tuesday morning. Sorry about skipping Monday, I was at a loss for our friend Cara McCollum and her passing away yesterday morning and there was nothing happy about the day or gossipy about the day.

I made it to Double Knot Monday night, the decor is a mystery romp full of eye candy delights. I was perusing the books on the shelves to see if there was a rhyme or reason. It definitely reminds me of a place Charlie Chan would wander into to look for leads in solving a case. Although the door to the dining area is not behind a much speculated book shelf as had been written, the bathroom on the first level is behind a door that you would think led to the outside. Downstairs the much anticipated eatery by Michael Schulson chef and restaurateur (MJS Restaurants – Sampan, Graffiti Bar, Independence Beer Garden, Izakaya
at the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa, and now Double Knot]) and at the helm in the kitchen, his long time chef from Izakaya –
Kevin Yanaga is a series of rooms, nooks and crannies hearkening you back to speakeasy days. Delightful fixtures, an open kitchen with eating bar, and dramatic murals on the wall were some of the details created to enhance your dining experience.  Highlights from dinner last night with Ian M Crumm – Oyster Shooter (l) and lamb chops.

Broiled Sea-bass (I brought some home for Mike and he declared it was the best Sea-bass he’s ever had in his life. That is saying a lot.), Scallop, Wings,

Apple Tart, which Ian said was one of the best desserts he’s ever had. I had to restrain him from grabbing the one just put down at the table next to us.

Lots of fun notables have stopped by to wish the crew well and delight in the new food. Last night David Fields, Shola Olunloyo  and Joe Beddia. Also seen lately Chefs Jose Garce and Luke Palladino, and over the weekend Nik the Web Chick from Q102.  Next up for the Schulson empire, Harp & Crown (1524 Sansom St.), an American.

Things have changed a bit from the initial plans a year ago. Now on the first floor will be a restaurant, with a sexy, speakeasy in the basement, AND wait for it, so excited for the his plans in the mezzanine – each side will have one bowling lane for private parties (I had him repeat it twice cause I was so overcome with excitement). OMG game changer, so fun. I can’t wait for that. Sounds like a good celebrity magnet too.

Speaking of bowling, Jacklin Rhoads, formerly a Cashman girl, now working with Sen Bob Casey, went bowling with #TeamCasey at the White House last week, that’s epic. I bet the bowling lanes to be installed at Harp & Crown will be a little bit more modern than the ones above.

The Goldberg’s is an American television program that premiered on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 on ABC and was created by Philly’s own Adam F. Goldberg. This past weekend,
Bryan Callen who plays Coach Meller on the show performed at Helium Comedy Club. Here he poses with former Penn Charter’s head coach Rick Mellor, who Callen’s character on The Goldberg’s
is based on.

Congrats to Kevin Parker & Kerry Scott for the most successful Philadelphia Fashion Week to date. The shows keep getting better and better. For the second season in a row, their friend, NYFW legend Fern Mallis was on hand to wish them well and mentor them. I regret I was booked every night during their shows. I must get those dates for their next shows in September.

Congrats to Geno Vento for being honored with the Fashion Icon Award of the Year at Philadelphia Fashion Week. He also modeled on the catwalk later in the evening. Here he is with co-founders Kevin Parker & Kerry Scott
Taylor Swift Was the Maid of Honor in Her Best Friend’s PA Wedding on Saturday

Snap Kitchen has opened in Rittenhouse Square. Now maybe when I go to Fairmount, my favs will be on the shelf cause you can stay in your own neighborhood.

Sweet T’s Bakery created another creative looking cake for it looks like Mark’s 30th birthday. Sweet T’s is in Haddonfield, but they’ll deliver a specialty cake in the tri-state area.
Happy Birthday Vince Ryan, who celebrated with friend Matt Pellman, 6ABC in Kennsington, Philly the other night. FB is screwing with us, we all used to be in Camden, NJ when we posted, now we’re in Kennsington.
Happy 42nd Bday Big Rube. Look for him to make BIG moves this year.
Modell’s is opening on Walnut Street in the old space that used to house City Sports, in a few weeks. Don’t fret I read on Philly Mag that two Wharton Grads have saved City Sports and will be opening e-commerce and eventually brick & mortar sites.

PhillyGossip: The Rittenhouse Hotel’s New Restaurant, Caitlyn Jenner, Kanye West PLUS More

Good Friday morning. WOW did this week go by fast. Lots going on in Philly this week, and this weekend. Can’t believe we’re up to February 19 already. Spring is nearly around the corner. In the meantime I’m eating my Snap Kitchen meals and using my SAD light to get me through.

An Evening with Caitlyn Jenner happened at Penn Wednesday night to a sold out crowd in which the audience had to either be attending Penn or an alumni. Neither Team Derek or I made the cut. Team Derek did meet Caitlyn at the Rittenhouse Hotel, and told me she was super friendly. Posed for photos and signed dozens of magazines for them. Check out Billy Penn for more photos and info on her chat at Penn.

********************

Speaking of the Rittenhouse Hotel, the Philly foodie community has been on the edge of their seats to see what eatery is going to fill the space left vacant by Smith & Wollensky. Although Michael Klein alluded to it last year in a post, I will tell you it’s more than a rumor now, it’s going to be Scarpetta,
which is an Italian restaurant with locations in New York, Montauk, Las Vegas, Beverly Hills and Miami. Friends of mine had dinner at the NYC one, and the server told them he was excited to begin work at the eatery. I spoke to Philly friends who have put me in touch with the investor behind the project. The transformation of the space hasn’t started yet, and they hope to begin this month and complete sometime in the summer. Some say it could be done by the time Hillary gets nominated, but that seems to be an ambition goal.
The Yelpers give it a solid 4 star review.
George from the Bronx said:
“This place is f——- amazing. I should just end my review here. But as
a yelper I will tell you the food journey I went on because it was
unbelievable. A fatass journey at the very least…because Scarpetta
left me speechless. I wish I lived next door that is how much love I
have for this place.”
I like their hours too, til 10:30PM every night but Sundays when they close at 10PM.
Dinner Menu
They also participated in NYC’s restaurant week. I love this place already.
Speaking of Grammy’s, Kanye West thankfully wasn’t there, but he was still making a fool of himself on Social Media when he complained he was in debt for $57 million. The Philly Police stepped forward offering him a job.
But I think Philly Smurfette told us something we all kinda know.
Great shot of a packed Fillmore Philly before the Bryan Adams concert on
Monday night, by Marilyn Russell, BenFM, who hosted the event.
Congrats to Philly fashion designer Michael Thomas who dressed Philadelphia Recording Artist Kriss Mincey for the Grammy’s on Monday night. Michael doesn’t have a website, but told me you could reach him at bewellbefaithful@gmail.com
A couple of Flyers ( Radko Gudas, Ryan White and Michael Nieurberth) leaving the Claude Giroux Foundation 2nd annual event at Lucky Strike Lanes Wednesday night.

 It was windy on Monday.
Condolences to Big Ang‘s family, and so many of my friends who lost someone they adore. My timeline was filled with photos of with Big Ang.
Geno Vento continues his philanthropic ways in Philly. The other night he was a sponsor of the Nova Temple BBall game, and received the evenings ball.
All week he’s been the title sponsor for Philadelphia Fashion Week who is having wonderful shows at their new location in South Philly. Tickets are still left for the remaining two nights. Check out the Philly Voice today which covered the show’s street style fashion.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Miss NJ 2013 Cara McCollum and family who was critically injured in a car accident Monday night on Rt 55 in SNJ. There’s now a website Prayers for Cara
where you can go to get updates on Cara.

I met Cara through Miss Philadelphia 2013 Francesca Ruscio a few years back, as did Keith Jones, NBC10 reporter/anchor and boyfriend of Cara.
We were all last together at The Cole Hamels Diamonds and Denin Gala last summer, where we all shared a table.
The duo were in love more than ever. Cara was finally finished school and so excited for the next chapter of her life, at the new start up TV station SNJToday as an Anchor . She was so glad to be able to spend all her days with Keith. We didn’t see each other often, but via social media we’d catch up, and I knew I’d see her at the Red Cross Red Ball coming up, as Keith MC’d it every year.
Prayers for Cara

Philly Cooks The Details , Plus Link to Philly Mag Posting

Philly Mag’s Philly Cooks hosted their annual soiree the other night at the Downtown Marriott. It was SOLD OUT, and when I got there at 7PM it was apparent. The line to get in was super long, and when I arrived to the ballroom the place was packed.

I like the entrance, which was this canopy, bordered by raw vegetables. Guests were greeted by “Party Girls” in long gowns with spirits to kick off the night.
It’s was Orangy Night. Maybe that’s what the Cars meant in their song

The Infinity Lounge was there again this year. Towards the end of the night there wasn’t a seat left to lounge on.
Emily Turturici, London Faust, Virgina Laskowski and Jackie Bloemker (wearing the cutest dress from Forever 21) I loved this photo, I just didn’t run it in PM.
PS Even if your photo appears in PhillyChitChat, it’s still a contender to appear in PhillyMag so make sure you pick up April’s issue.

I like when the eateries put some thought into their tablescapes at events. This is  Heritage, who had what the crowd deemed one of their favorite dishes of the night –
Sturgeon with Quail eggs.
Evantine Designs did the honors this year. That means they looked at the space and then executed it according to the ideas the Philly Mag marketing department had in mind. Evantine also consults with the lighting design people too, Brian Toner‘s Eventions. Everything look great, and the flow of the room was perfect.
Urban Farmer’s display was the best. They were giving away cute note books as well as corn seeds for your garden. I’ve eaten at Urban Farmer Steakhouse in Logan Hotel, and it’s delicious.
Many of the people I spoke with chose their Bacon Jam and Cornbread as the 2nd most favorite dish.

George Lee, Diane Ranson, Sandy Dawes (PM receptionist) and Nita Lee
Christina Randow and Michael Welsh of Brick & Mortar – Love them, but they were so busy I couldn’t get them to look up so this photo is here, but good thing as Michael posted this on my FB wall today and it’s might be of interest to you. You know how I feel about this issue.

Hey Facebook Friends. I’m reaching out to all of you to invite you to
join us at BAM TONIGHT from 6-9pm. We are hosting Mission 22 to
raise awareness and help end veteran suicide. 22 Vets take their lives
everyday and they need our help. Yes, that is 1 every 65 minutes. Please
join us tonight to show your appreciation of their sacrifice and join
the cause.
This article just came out today, the struggle IS real.
http://www.usatoday.com/…/rand-study-military-pts…/80339552…

Peter Breslow was ready for his close up. It’s obvious why I didn’t use this photo. When there’s an event with a lot of people, I don’t have time for people to decide when they’re ready to pose.

I didn’t even know that’s where Philly’s most colorful chef landed. You’ll find out when you read my Philly Mag column.
Little Baby’s Ice Cream – dots are in
The Sabatino Clan – Jenn and Jett serving up some delish from Aldine
Townsend was at Philly Cooks, but if you have a chance check out amano in Fairmount – and get the Inked Pasta. You’ll thank me.
Everytime I see the sign Caviar on a food table I think, oh good caviar I hope they prepared it like my dad used to.

I have lots of fun photos on Philly Mag and much more detail. This photo was supposed to be in my column over there, but no one could verify the first three guys names. Maybe they don’t have an online prescence, so I’ll put them here. You tell me did I get their names right? I really don’t like shooting groups this large, as this is a problem. You have the grab the names fast as they’re itching to go back to partying, mingling etc.
OK Philly Mag isn’t ready for us yet, but when they are head over to

#TBT Spring Can’t Come Soon Enough

I have winter fatigue. Haven’t been going out much, tired, you know you guys might be there too. Mike even got me a Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) light which sets your internal clock and creates a sense of sun time longer than our winter days. Plus did you ever notice how cloudy it is all the time. So blah. So today I am revisiting some of my favorite springtime photos, most are from Philly, but a few from NYC, Florida and California. All these photos are at least 5 years old, so it’s really #ThrowBackThursday

Walnut Street – a few things missing along Rittenhouse Row and a Bentley

I took a stroll down Walnut Street last night, it had been awhile and I found a few things missing along Rittenhouse Row.

Lacoste at 1424 Walnut Street has closed. It’s next to another empty storefront which used to house lululemon athletica, which was across the street, moved here, and now is at 1720 Walnut Street

Also closed is Calypso St. Barth, 1613 Walnut St. It was always such a cute store. Wish they would bring back my favorite hideaway eatery Wok, which was there before Calypso. The store windows are wrapped in PANDORA jeweler. So maybe a PANDORA store is coming. I thought they were only little carts in the mall, maybe they’re going brick and mortar.

Weeping still that Le Bec Fin is dead and gone, but now is this wall of greenery that welcomed you to Avance restaurant.

You might have read on SHOPPIST Warby Parker is opening a store in Former Le Bec-Fin/Avance space and it looks like they’re putting a big fat ass window in as part of the facade.

Rumor has it that the Capital One Cafe is moving
across the street to the new Lathan Apartments
and it’s going right where the former Urban Enoteca was located. I hear it’s going to be a nice large cafe, with hours later than a normal bank.
I’m getting excited for the PHS Flower Show next week. I see Lago’s has done their window, and the Flower Show sign is visible, which is one of the criteria for judging the windows for a contest. I’m one of the judges, and that is one of my pet peeve judging points.
Riding in Style: Monday evening I arrived to a Grammy Viewing Party at The Residences
at The Ritz-Carlton in their
new chauffeured house car, a Bentley Flying Spur; it picked us up and
returned us safely home even in that wicked weather. The Residences is truly redefining luxury
living with its unbelievable views of City Hall and the Philadelphia
skyline as well as world-class amenities.

Palm Restaurant in Philadelphia To Close on February 29

I heard rumors of it’s demise, but I’m happy to report that the Palm Restaurant in Philly is to undergo major renovations at it’s Bellevue location. The restaurant assures me that they are not closing. No mention on whether they will be retaining my mug on the wall or anyone. After inquiring about the rumor of closing, they were nice enough to send this press release to me.
PALM RESTAURANT PHILADELPHIA TO UNDERGO MAJOR RENOVATION

LAST DAY OF BUSINESS BEFORE CONSTRUCTION IS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2016

PHILADELPHIA
(February 15, 2016) – The Palm
Restaurant Philadelphia, located in The Bellevue at 200 S. Broad Street
and known for its first-class steaks, outrageously Jumbo Nova Scotia
lobsters and dedication to hospitable service,
marks nearly 30 years with a major refresh. Set to re-open late in the
fourth quarter of 2016, or early 2017, the Philadelphia restaurant will
be the seventh in the company’s portfolio to receive the exciting new
design.

The newly designed Atlanta Palm Restaurant

“The Bellevue
has been home to The Palm since 1989, and we couldn’t imagine unveiling
our spectacular new restaurant anywhere else except with our friends,
the Rubins. Philadelphia is
an incredible market with a fiercely loyal customer base,” said Wally
Ganzi
, third generation family member and Co-Owner. “Our new design will
reflect the sophistication of Philadelphia while retaining The Palm’s
essence, which is warm, welcoming and inviting.”

hand-painted feature that overlooks the dining room and highlights Atlanta’s landmarks
The refreshed
Palm Restaurant will continue to embrace the restaurant’s 90-year
commitment to service and quality with the same great food and
personalized service.  The new design will
feature intimate seating for 152 and a striking hand-painted feature
wall of Philadelphia’s famous landmarks overlooking the dining room. A
new expansive bar will anchor the dining room and will offer the Prime
Time menu of Small Plates, Prime BitesⓇ
and an extensive list of
handcrafted cocktails.  The Private Dining Room will be relocated to the
main level of the restaurant with seating for up to 36 and will feature
a state-of-the-art
audio visual system.

“The Palm is
more than a restaurant. It is an institution not only for The Bellevue,
but also for the entire city of Philadelphia”, states Ron Rubin,
Co-owner of The Bellevue. “We look
forward to the delivery of an exciting new look for what is truly one
of the city’s finest dining destinations.”

Bradley Cooper and his dad
In true Palm
Restaurant style, there will be a fresh new array of signature
caricatures produced in association with Zack Bird, a Philadelphia
artist
whose family has created caricatures for Palm Restaurants for several
decades.  Bird himself has created Palm caricatures, artwork and feature
walls for other refreshed Palm locations. This tradition started at the
restaurant’s onset when the owners had no
money to decorate and relied on a large clientele of cartoonists who
traded art for meals.  The caricatures at The Palm Philadelphia will
once again be painted directly onto the walls just as they were in the
beginning.

– Checking with the Palm website I see these new designs have been rolling out the past couple years including Atlanta as I mentioned before.

2013 The Palm re-opens in Boston at 1 International Place, with a new design
2013 The Palm re-opens in Houston, unveiling a new restaurant prototype

PhillyGossip: Teresa Giudice, Nicki Minaj, What Your Fav Notables In Philly Did For VDay 2016

Good Monday Morning. Happy VDAY, and Presidents Day and Happy 4100th post for PCC.
Let’s start off with a little gossip.

Women of Power: Convicted tax evader Teresa Giudice (RHONJ) was in our area over the weekend. Barely released from prison two months and she already has a book out. Must have been writing the tome on the toilet paper in sing sing. Good for her, not so good was whoever she hired for PR cause nearly nobody knew she was doing this book tour.

I did tweeted it out early Friday that she’d be at B&N in Glassboro, where my high school friend Jacquie and her daughter did a meet and greet signing with her. She was super nice, and they were thrilled.Jacquie told me there were about 200 people in line for the signing. I really tried to get there on Saturday for the BJ’s signing in Maple Shade, but I attended the Susan Komen Women of Power event at the Kimmel Center, and it was amazing.

Friday night Nicki and Meek spotted at Fetty Wap concert at the Fillmore, you can see she’s wearing a blonde wig. On Saturday, she was sporting the same ‘do when she and Meek Mill had dinner at the Saloon in South Philly, says server  Antonia Regalbuto. Nicki then headed out of town on Sunday to perform at the Grammy’s tonight. At the end of the month, she’s scheduled to perform with Fetty Wap and  Big Sean, Omarion, DJ Khaled, O.T. Genasis and still on the bill Meek Mill at The Forum, Inglewood, CA

Nicki thanking Fetty Wap at VMA’s

Tonight Nicki hangs with Drake, awkward.
Congrats to Philly fashion designer Jovan O’Connor for her presentation at Macy’s in Manhattan.
A huge inspiration is the daily fight for Tara Lessard in her fight against Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer, and the love of her life Shanel Sharese standing by her side. Tara has a successful photography business, and has photographed events for PhillyChitChat too.

Mike and Jim are featured in Inside New Jersey magazine this month, eating at Knock, which is in Philly. hmmm

My former Fox 29 Producer Tom Louden, now at Breakfast on Broad on Comcast Sportsnet, was excited that Rita’s Water Ice Opened in his neighborhood on VDay.

Happy Birthday to Alex Holley‘s make up guy: Jacen Bowman ShadesOfJacen.com. Great guy.

10 of this Weeks Funniest Tweets – The Weather Girls Edition

Oh I know I’m fanatical about the weather sometimes, but next time I’m going to check myself before I say anything. Crazy tweets to our fav weather ladies of Philly. You should read the tweet from the viewer, then the response from the forecaster.
