On Friday, December 4th, the 5th annual Chic for CHOP took place at Manayunk bar Beat Street Station. Hosted by the Lynn Saligman League and co-chaired by Jen Liss, Lindsey Schneider, and Brooke Borsky, this year’s Chic for CHOP also included a sweepstakes and an amazing silent auction which helped raise nearly $90,000 for the Pediatric Stroke Program
at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Hundreds of supporters came
out for the festive event for a fun evening of dancing and cocktails.
The Lynn Saligman League was founded nearly 58 years ago for 12-year-old
Lynn Saligman who died in a house fire along with her parents in
Merion, Pennsylvania. Many of her best friends, who founded the
organization, and attended school with the little girl, are active in
the organization started in 1957. With 125 volunteers the Lynn Saligman
League has became a constant presence at the Hospital, hosting patient
parties, bake sales, golf outings and many other events. The Lynn
Saligman League also raises funds to benefit the Hospital’s patient care
programs and fuel groundbreaking research.

A lot of pre planning and discussion goes into the concept of the house before they start

How cute is this, and the work that went into lining up the M&M’s in a color coordinated fashion.
Ronald McDonald’s House of Love
Red Paws created a house which suffered through a disaster, but was still able to be inhabitable by pets.

Running With The Santa’s Saturday Was More Like A slow, hot walk

It was a balmy 65F out on Saturday for the  Running of the Santas annual trek. This year’s “Running of the Santas” has
a new “South Pole” at Lolies Ale House (formerly McFadden’s) which is
located at 461 N. 3rd Street. Last year’s festivities attracted more
than 8,000 revelers, and event organizers encourage this year’s
partygoers to sport their most creative and out of the box holiday
costumes. Philadelphia’s signature Christmastime event will kick off at 10:00 a.m. from the “South Pole” at Lolies where merrymakers will prepare for the famed three block “fun run” at 5:00 p.m. to the “North Pole” located at the Electric Factory.

The later run this year at 5PM, was dark and not so ideal. Hopefully they’ll move it back to 4PM next year.

Although I’m sure the event attracted more than 10,000 people, I don’t think they broke any records for the run

Which soon turned into a trot
 then a walk
 and a few stumbles
 It was too warm out
 and Santa suits are hot
I guess I was expecting some people to
wear less clothes because of the balmy weather.
Chicago last week

A portion of the proceeds
will benefit the Ellie Koerner Leukemia Foundation. The mission of the
Ellie Koerner Leukemia Foundation is to provide assistance to families
who struggle to care for a loved one suffering from leukemia. For more
information on the Ellie Koerner Leukemia Foundation, please visit www.onetuffgirl.com.

Barely retired one year,

Mr. Greengenes  held their first Reunion Show at the Electric Factory at the end of the Running With The Santa’s. I think a lot of santa’s were already in place and skipped the run.

“Running of the Santas” is
the premier holiday season event which started in 1998 in the streets
of downtown Philadelphia when 40 close friends decided to suit up in
holiday costumes and go bar hopping. More than a decade and a half
later, the “Running of the Santas” event has grown across the world with more than 20 host cities from New Orleans to the shores of New Zealand.

Philly Gossip: Bad Mama Jama’s Alex Holley, Nadia Wright Maransky, Dr. Ruth, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Kijafa Vick and Susie Celek

Alex Holley has been missing from Fox29’s Good Day Philly for the better part of last week

as she was taping a special with Fox 5 DC’s Annie Yu and Kevin McCarthy called AKA Top 15 of 2015. The special will showcase the 3 journalists discussing 15 of the most talked about, pop culture events of the year. This week Alex is somewhere else, and I’m sworn to secrecy. She’ll be back later this week. Don’t get nervous she’s not going anywhere. Good Day is being helmed by Lauren Johnson and Mike Jerrick this week.

Columnist Ernest Owens with Sheryl Lee Ralph in NYC Friday afternoon at Equality Pa’s soiree during the Pa Society Weekend. Equality Pa honored Ralph for her work on behalf of the LGBTQ Community.

Bebashi held their 30th Anniversary Gala at Ben Ballroom on Friday night. Bebashi honored thirty leading public figures who have made important contributions to the fight against HIV/AIDS, and other health disparities – that have plagued the underserved minority community of Philadelphia including Sheryl Lee Ralph (yes she can be at two places at once), here with husband Sen. Vincent Hughes and singer El Debarge, who entertained the crowd with oldies but goodies, and a few new tunes.

Congrats to Rev Lorina Marshall Blake who was also honored at the Bebashi event, she’s here with Sheila and Mike Hess. Check out this Philly.com article on our new City Rep

This generations influencers Evan Solomon, Brandon Morrison, Lynsie Solomon and Stacey Kracher in NYC for the weekend at the PA Society.

 This happened last week

Happy Birthday Kijafa Vick celebrated with her friends in Miami
Philly in the house Julie Lesicki, Carmena Ayo-Davies and Angela Perfetto

Happy birthday Nadia Wright Maransky who was super surprised at her birthday party Friday night at Frank Bradley’s. (I couldn’t make it but thanks to Jill Rizen for capturing this moment.)
Fierce Pierce is recovering nicely after breaking his angle in a gymnastics accident a few weeks back. Here’s a piece he appeared in in Men’s Health in November.
Susie Celek’s got herself an agent and is making moves, movies and now in a music video with Benton Blount, Country Music Singer and Season 10 of America’s Got Talent finalist.

The 14-year-old with the “voice of an angel” who wowed the world during Pope Francis’s papal visit with his last-minute a cappella performance of “Pie Jesu” is making big moves.  Bobby Hill walked the red carpet last week at School of Rock Broadway opening in NYC, this week he performed for Fox & Friends in NYC. Seems he’s left the Keystone State Boychoir and has set out on his own. Next up touring South America starting tomorrow. Then January 23 he’ll be back in Philly performing with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Academy Ball and comedian Martin Short. I’ll be there with Alex Holley on my arm as my date. TICKETS
Shady McCoy stopped by Del Frisco’s over the weekend, no word on whether he had the mayor cut up his steak for him.

Sincerely Syreeta stopped by the Patterson Leader Ball on Tuesday night at the Independence Visitor Cetner. It’s a young leadership event, the next generation. It’s always held on the same night as the Pa Societies Gala at the Waldorf in NYC
Earlier in the week, Syreeta was honored at the Phila Association of Black Journalist with the “Bad Mama Jama Award”

South Street: Enchanting Holiday Windows

It’s that time of year, South Street’s Holiday Window Contest. It’s always hard to choose, so many of them really put in a great effort. The only criteria that South Street has though is include the “official entry” on display in the window. So you might have a great window, but if the official entry is not displayed we do take points off.  OK here are the windows that I felt were outstanding…

 Barkadelphia
Crash Bang Boom
 Garland of Letters
 Metal Works
 Milk and Honey
 Nostalgia
 Oxyomoron
 Paper Moon
 Passional
 Pet Snobs
 Philly Aids Thrift
 Retrospect
 Salon Sugar
 Spivak (by the Wid)
 Strange and Unusual
Urban Princess
These are just some of the holiday windows you can find on South Street. Below is a map for you to check them all out. So many details can’t be seen on the blog. It’s a great night out with friends or that special loved one checking out the windows. You don’t have to travel to NYC like I used to do, to see fun, whimsical holiday windows. The weather outside is far from frightful, get out this weekend and see South Street’s Enchanting Holiday Windows.

For more info and additional windows
Today and tomorrow see Santa on South Street

Bloomingdale’s Outlet Opens In Center City With Lots Of Bling & Bargains – Here Are Examples

You’ll recall about 2 years ago I rumored that Bloomingdale’s was looking to open a store in Center City. A full bloom Bloomingdale’s and I’m hear to tell you they were. The City at that time wanted them to take the space where Strawbridge & Clothier used to be located, but Bloomies wanted the Burlington Coat Factory – and wanted to tear down the building and do a custom build. They were this close having done drawings and everything. Must have given the Gallery owners an idea and they decided to do a whole re-do of the Gallery Mall making it an outlet upscale destination, which closed the mall until 2017. That wasn’t in the plans for the iconic NYC, back to the drawing board (BTW none of my story ever made it into official anything, although the Inky did write about the rumor. I can assure you it was in the works, and I verified it with someone at the opening today.) Fast-forward to today, despite the naysayers on my blog, Bloomingdale’s did come to the City in the form of their outlet store at The Shops in Liberty Place, 17th and Chestnut Streets. TODAY was the official Grand Opening.

Bloomingdale’s, The Outlet Store cut the ribbon today at the The Shops at Liberty Place (1625 Chestnut Street) in Center City, Philadelphia. This is the first Bloomingdale’s Outlet Store in the Philadelphia metro area and the 16th in the country.  The new Outlet Store location will join two full-line Bloomingdale’s stores in Philadelphia at King of Prussia and Willow Grove.

The  22,700 square feet on the second level of Liberty Place, the new
Bloomingdale’s, The Outlet Store will enter the retail space formerly
occupied by Warner Bros. and most recently, Christopher’s Men’s. The
Outlet Store will offer a range
of off-price apparel and accessories, including women’s ready-to-wear,
men’s, children’s and home –giving fashionable and wallet conscious
customers an avenue for purchasing stylish brands at a compelling price.

Michelle Israel, Senior Vice President of Bloomingdale’s Outlet Stores, Robert Bond, GM of Bloomingdale’s Outlet Store in Philadelphia,  and Alan Greenberger. Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Director of Commerce at the grand opening of Bloomingdale’s Outlet Store in Philadelphia at the Shops of Liberty Place this morning.

A few of my favorite things – The Men’s Shoe Department
 Ya Gotta Wear Shades
Before Blogging everyone kept diaries. I like to think of it as blogging primer now.

In the 1960s this would be an ashtray

The outlet sells apparel and accessories, jewelry and footwear for men, women and children.

The photo doesn’t do these justification they’re really cute.
I want to see you wear this during the holidays. I must photograph this on a person, I believe the price was $149
So glad these fur lined vests are back.
Seriously barely opened a day and they have a “clearance corner already” and you don’t have to search for it. Enter through the  mall and it’s immediately on your left.
I love the new Bloomingdale Oultet, it’s a perfect companion shop to the other Manhattan store that set up shop in Philly: Century 21 at 8th and Market

Eagles are in first place, I know hard to believe right?
OK this is truly a conversation piece. It’s ice cubes in the shape of the Titanic and Icebergs. It’s truly an ice breaker.
 Love these Sweaters
 Psycho Bunny Hats $19
  Joe’s Jeans
 Here Kitty
This is just the girls shoes, the women’s shoes are rows and rows long. You’re going to need a day or two for them, and several days to check out the bags.
Elements of the iconic Bloomingdale’s store design carry over, such as
the checkerboard floor, but with added pops of yellow referencing the
iconic taxi cabs seen throughout NYC.
You might find this shirt at Urban Outfitters – I’m Just Like You Except Hot
Christmas Cookies Anyone – Or is this for Day of the Dead?
Mole Street Productions was on hand to set up the AV equipment for the ribbon cutting and speeches this morning. Punch Media was there as they do the PR for Shops of Liberty Place
DJ Adrian Hardy was spinning for the customer delights

Chachkies

Huge bargain – English Laundry Socks $4.98 for 2 Pair
 #Selfie with the Phillies Phanatic

Tea Strainers – They’re a little obsessed with the Titanic

It’s official, the directory puts the Bloomingdale Outlet name on it’s board
This was the check out counter at 10AM this morning
The entrance from the Shops of Liberty Place – Make sure you take a spin inside. There are lots of great stores there and a fantastic food court.
