Thanksgiving Food Drive Out of Gas – Send Food – Donations Needed to Feed Homeless

Thanksgiving Food Drive Out of Gas
FOR RELEASE October 15, 2014
Media Contact: Elizabeth Bowers, ebowers@sundaybreakfast.org, (423) 747-3004
                                Richard McMillen, dmcmillen@sundaybreakfast.org, (717) 314-04810
Philadelphia,
PA —Pumpkin spice everything is sweeping the nation while homeless
people in Philadelphia are woefully forgotten.  The All Day Thanksgiving
Meal at Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission is the most ambitious to-date
but donations for the Food Drive, that make the Thanksgiving Meal
possible, have dwindled to a crawl.
In
2013 alone, the much smaller Thanksgiving Meal served 557 individuals.
This year, the All Day Thanksgiving will care for more people than ever
before.  It will be served to homeless men and women with a true family
experience because serving time has doubled to a four hour block from
noon to four with seconds included.
Volunteers
will transform themselves into waiters for a day and deliver the food
to the tables for a restaurant style experience for the homeless men and
women.  Over sixty volunteers are needed to accomplish this atmosphere.
The Mission has received very little food (photo)
to support this incredible Thanksgiving campaign.  The most needed
items to make the meal possible are stuffing, canned vegetables, pie
mix, macaroni & cheese, and brown rice.  The Mission has received
only limited quantities and nowhere near enough to serve thanksgiving to
the hundreds of homeless individuals who are counting on the Mission.
“At
this time last year, we had received enough food to serve Thanksgiving
dinner and the surplus was used for months,” recalls Richard McMillen,
Executive Director/CEO of the Mission.  “Traditionally 80% of the year’s
non-perishable food donations are given during the Fall Food Drive,”
McMillen explains.
These
Food Drive donations make it possible to serve three warm meals every
day of the year.  On average the Mission is able to provide meals for
600 men each day.  The Mission’s services go beyond food as more than
200 men find shelter each night.
In
order to continue helping those who need it, Sunday Breakfast Rescue
Mission, an organization that has cared for the homeless for more than
136 years, is seeking donations from the smallest can to the largest
turkey to make this Thanksgiving Meal possible.
To learn more about Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission please call (215) 922-6400 or visit their website, www.sundaybreakfast.org.
Donations can be dropped off at the Mission at 302 N. 13th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107 ###

It was a fashionable crowd, but no one was more fashionable than Fox 29
viewers Wasimah Dorn and Ayjay Hollis, who were stunning in their
fashion. The duo told me they were at the “Ya Gotta Try This” event on recently had and had a blast

It is at this event that restaurant and bar owners, their staff or representatives try out the latest in spirits that are distributed by Capital Wine and Spirits.

And then there’s that delicious Cesacphe food, lots of seafood and treats.

AVANCE LAST STAND – GARCES, SBRAGA, PERRIER AND ROMAN GATHER FOR A TOAST

Friday night serendipitously four chefs found themselves enjoying
lamb burgers at the basement bar of the now closed Avance 1523 Walnut Street, once the long revered elegant dining spot Le Bec-Fin helmed by living legend Chef Georges Perrier.
Two of the chefs got their start in Chef Georges Perrier (c) kitchen: Chef Kevin Sbraga (Sbraga (l), The Fat Ham), and Chip Roman (Blackfish, Ela, Mica, The Treemont) (r) here with Alison Smith and Stacey Kracher. The fourth chef was Jose Garces. Needless to say the restaurant ran out of the highly desirable lamb burger before the night was through as well wishers and the nostalgic filed through the doors as the clock ticked til close.

Chef Georges Perrier gave a toast to Avance, to his chefs and to the memory of
Le BecFin

Kacie McDonnell and Chiefs QB Aaron Murray Are Engaged with Mike Jerrick in on the Proposal…

And Mike Jerrick Seems to have been part of the proposal.

Which is only apropro since he gave helped give her her big break on Fox 29 as traffic girl after seeing her in a local sexy Fiat commercial and has been a great mentor since.

Kacie and Aaron met via twitter Kacie told me. He wrote her, then they chatted on the phone, then she flew to watch him play football for Georgia Bulldogs where he was a senior.
In August Kaci made the hard decision to follow her heart and head to Kansas City, where Murray was a fifth-round pick by the Kansas City Chief.

This is a big year of engagements in the Murray family as Aaron’s brother Josh, who was a contestant on the reality show “The Bachelorette” won, and popped the question to Andi Dorfman. They are now engaged.

Congratulations to Kaci and Aaron.

A Social Media Success Love Story.

My Update and More on Wigs and Wishes. There’s more to say…

Oh boy this flu took the life out of me. I went to Urgent Care in South Philly on Friday and they gave me Tamiflu and I’m on my way to better health at least now I’m not contagious.  I’m so grateful to my 2nd shooter Mike Hirata who re-arranged his schedule to cover my events and for the clients who were able to get other photographers to shoot events he couldn’t cover. I was sad I couldn’t cover the opening of the Orchestra last night. This whole week was a big lesson on no matter how busy you are, you’re health is a top priority and others realize that too.  I also decided to quit all soda and carbs, so I was extra sick with that wicked headache you get. My doctor basically said now was the time I take care of my health, and being 300 lbs is not healthy.

I wanted to write more about this Wigs and Wishes event. It was one of the most organized over the top gala’s I’ve been to, did I saw over the top, yes it was.  Here are a few more pixs and stories.

Lucien’s Manor is a gorgeous event space. Think Crystal Tearoom on steroids.

The main ball room was decorated by Abbotts Florist, really nice.

This cake was done by Platinum. See the wig on top.
Adorable girls that benefitted by Friends Are By Yourside wigs.

In my philly mag column I forgot to mention he got an award, along with Martino Cartier.
I wish Philly would turn it out like this. There really wasn’t one OMG hot mess dress there.
Susan Liberta, Great Gifts and Promo created the most amazing silent auction I have ever seen.
Where they heck did she get this Miley Cyrus photo?
My philly mag column is about the dinner party, these pixs are the after  party
There was a $20 raffle for this Eiffel Tower full of gifts.

These two won the Eiffel Tower, I have no idea how they were going to get this home.
Check out my Philly Mag column on how Friends By Your Side and Martino Cartier is making a difference.
