 DesignPhiladelphia is an important festival for the city, showcasing the
key role design has played in the history of the region. Tonight, the whole festival wraps with The Closing Party: A Fundraiser for Friends of the Rail Park,
a ticketed benefit party and presentation of conceptual designs by
Olin, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, and CVM for transforming the former City
Branch of the Reading Railroad into a public park.

At 6 p.m., join in a merry fundraising event and meet the design team and board of Friends of the Rail Park.
Contribute $75 per person, and learn about the incredible vision for a
three-mile long park along the Reading Viaduct east of Broad Street and
the submerged lines to the west.

From 8 to 11 p.m., show up for a festive fete to celebrate DesignPhiladelphia and the completion of this important festival. A $25
ticket supports the efforts of the rail park, too.

Goldtex Apartments, one of Center City’s premier new properties, hosted a rooftop event last night. Guests, who included realtors, tastemakers and residents were invited to enjoy complimentary food courtesy of Cafe Lift/Bufad
Pizza, drinks, and sounds by DJ Dan Cronin of Hair O’ The Dog. The Goldtex
team were showing the brand new, state-of-the-art apartments,
class-leading green living experience and amenities the building has to
offer.

Inspired by all the cute little signs the building trades leave
around the neighborhood, the Post Brothers have created a cute little
campaign “Do Not Rent Here” because you’ll never want to leave!!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we are calling all Cross-trainers to Unite in Pink

I wish there was an organization like  American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to reach out to for help when I was so desperate,
when my mental health was compromised, when I didn’t see a brighter
future.

I already told you that I once did not see a bright future, after years
of being bullied [insert here everything others thought was a failure of
my person], I tried to kill myself in my early 20′, once ending up in
the hospital getting my stomach pumped. (The other time involved a gun
that didn’t go off.) (I also killed myself off a million times in my mind) I’m glad I’m here, it was a short road to a better life. A few hours from the darkness, there really is light.

 

Seeing all these families, friends walking in the name of someone they loved, really brought tears to my eyes.

 Suicide is the third leading cause of death in middle and high school and the second cause of death in college students. Minding Your Mind does free community outreach to students to discuss mental health, mental illness, depression and to remove the stigma so the students can address these issues.

  There was a lot of love and awareness at the Art Museum – Nearly 3000 people came out to show the world – YOU ARE LOVED, we remember and we are there for you.
(I have to say when I tried to kill myself my family was not there. They had had enough of me and my reckless life ie drugs, drinking, homelessness, (all to mask my pain of being gay, the bullying, the desperation to be accepted, lack of direction, or motivation.) Had I known there was an organization like this, I would have definitely had reached out to them. I was so desperate for someone to save me. I don’t blame my parents and certainly not my siblings who were all too young to know. Within months of trying to kill myself the 2nd time, I got sober and saved myself.)

The Wayne Hotel and Paramour Restaurant seems to be the best place to see celebrities on the Main Line. (It’s always been a hot place to see and be seen, but now the celebs have found it too.)

Eviama Life Spa owner Penny Ordway, explains what aromatherapy is and the background on the components that create it. 
Essential oils are concentrated, volatile aromatic compounds
extracted from the leaves, seeds, root, bark, flowers of aromatic
plants. The oils can be strong and cause an irritation. It’s best to add them to a
base oil (jojoba, almond, sesame, olive) or you can also put them on a tissue or cloth and keep it with you. Penny also discussed prenatal massages, as well as massages that might help you conceive.

 

LIGHTS FOR THE CURE, a joint effort by CBS 3 and Susan G. Komen Philadelphia, have turned the area skyline pink for the 12th year in a row during National Breast Cancer
Awareness Month as a reminder to stay vigilant in the fight against breast cancer. 

Beyond the message broadcast by the lights, the campaign will also
maximize CBS’s airwaves to generate awareness of breast health. 
Throughout October, CBS 3 and its sister station The CW Philly will
broadcast reminders
to schedule a mammogram hundreds of times in news broadcasts, including
every time a building or landmark is showcased in
Eyewitness Weather forecasts this month, and in promotion time. 

The inspiration story of the year. Sara and daughter Emily. Emily started a “Pink Pennies Project” Emily has been collecting pennies at retail shops and friends to donate to the Susan Komen Philadelphia.

She presented a check for $2,290 to Elaine I. Grobman

sister that she would not stop fighting until each and every woman
diagnosed with breast cancer emerged as a breast cancer survivor,”
says Elaine I. Grobman, Chief Executive Officer of Komen
Philadelphia.  “It is because of devoted partners  like CBS 3 and this
Lights for the Cure campaign that the promise, that the spirit of Suzy
Komen and all the hope that drives our mission, are
alive today, thriving and bettering our world.”

 Last night two giant social events were going on – The Zarwin Baum Easter Seals Casino Night, and the Philly Style Mag John Legend Cover celebration at Parx Casino. I missed that one but borrowed a few photos from my friend Jade Starling’s FB Page. I am working hard to get my photos processed from the Zarwin Baum shoot, and the other three million jobs I had this month. So I am way way behind.
