A New Chapter in My Career & Congratulations to Laura Burkhardt

For my 2500th entry I have some news for you.

My career & blog has always been inspired by the premier nightlife photographer, Patrick McMullan. He is NYC’s social diarist. He covers celebrities and society and his work appears in several outlets, including the blog The NY Social Diary (which is how I got the idea for my PhillyChitChat blog 5 years ago.) McMullan has a weekly column in New York Magazine called “Party Lines” (love that), and his images appear regularly in Allure, Interview, Hamptons, Ocean Drive, and Gotham.

Starting today I’m going to have a weekly column on Philly.com.- Check Today’s Column

I will still be contributing to PhillyMag online and will have my monthly in the magazine. You can still find my notable/celebrity “One Shots” on PhillyMag in The Philly Post too.

**Today’s Philly Mag Column on the Union League’s Women’s Fashion Show CHAIRED By Lynsie Solomon

I also contribute to a weekly newspaper called Liberty City Press

And PhillyChitChat will still have 5 days of great entries, breaking news and tidbits.

Thank you so much for carrying my career, something I love to do, to this place. I love that I can expose charities, and great events to so many different people through these media outlets.

I go to a whole lotta events, there wont be overlapping photos. I’m excited to try out this out and see how it goes. (ie do I get enough sleep, exercise and Mike time, Mom.)

I would also like to congratulate my good friend Laura Burkhardt on her return as publisher to Where Magazine as of this week!! With Kristina Jenkins, Editor of Where Magazine and Where Magazine alumni Will Klein concierge at Sofitel,

Robert Zemeckis: Close Encounters with Carrie Rickey

Perelman Theater
Saturday, October 27
3:30PM

Oscar-winning
filmmaker Robert Zemeckis has taken us Back to the Future, through the
American century in Forrest Gump and to the edge of the cosmos in
Contact. In Who Framed Roger Rabbit he imagined a human detective with a
cartoon bunny as a client, each negotiating the physics of
two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds. A wizard who weds
bleeding-edge technology to humanist narrative, Zemeckis films are as
intriguing for their digital effects as they are for how he integrates
them to tell primal stories.

Flight, the filmmaker’s latest, stars Denzel Washington as an airline
pilot who by the seat of his pants steers his aircraft out of a nosedive
before experiencing other kinds of turbulence. Before Flight’s local
premiere at the Philadelphia Film Festival, Zemeckis will talk about the
stories behind his film stories with film critic Carrie Rickey. A
highlight reel of scenes from Zemeckis films will open the conversation,
during which the director will talk about a specific sequence in Flight
and take questions from the audience.

Close Encounters, an occasional series at the Kimmel, was inaugurated
in February with the interview of Kevin Bacon. It is made possible by a
generous grant from the Wyncote Foundation and the gracious cooperation
of Paramount Pictures.

All artists and programs subject to change.

PARTY PICTURES: GREEN TREE SCHOOL GALA at Franklin Institute (What a View too!) & INFO ON CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Recently Green Tree School hosted a gala at the Franklin Institute to raise
money for the Capital Campaign for the construction of the new state of the art Green Tree School
to be built in Germantown.

Green Tree School offers tuition-free
programs for about 150 students with emotional disabilities, preschool
developmental delays and autism, from ages 3 to 21. The event also honored long-time Green Tree Trustee and Temple
Law Professor, Rob Bartow (R) with Jane Coralluzzo, Event Chair, Larry Hall and Frederick Strober.

I had never been to an event on the roof of the Franklin Institute. It’s a great space, and what an awesome view of Philly. You can see down the Parkway and the city skyline.
Chef Steve Poses meets Eustacia Cutler ie Temple Grandin’s mother as
Herman Axelrod, executive director at Green Tree School looks on. Poses is a former
teacher at Green Tree School and founded the culinary arts vocational
program.
Some of the children’s art work was on display

The cocktail party was a huge success
A few people did check out the heart, but most caught up with their friends.
The Green Tree School Chorus sang two songs during the evenings program

Some of the students from the Green Tree School’s culinary program assisted in preparing
the dinner that was served to the nearly 300 guests in attendance.

The Board Members including PhillyChitChat pal Megan Smith, Brownstone PR (r).

Kimani Shaw, a graduate of Green Tree High School, was a speaker and told the guests a bit about his life. He spoke about the challenges he faced after his mother and grandmother
died when he was only 12 years old. After participating in the many different services and being educated at Green Tree
High School he went on to college. “Never give up, never give up. Your hopes and dreams are only one knock away from reality,” he said.

Great Schools gives Green Tree School a five out of five rating: “My son is in the Early Intervention program here. The
program director is responsive to the needs of students and parents. The
teacher and classroom asst. pay very close attention to the children.
Class size is small and the facility is on par with private schools. A
wonderful choice for Early Intervention”

Herman Axelrod gives teacher of the year Debra Moore recognition and a plaque for her continued great service to the students of Green Tree School.

Green Tree School is on the move. Most of the funds have been raised and ground has been broken. This time next year their new school should be opened in Germantown, located at 1196 E. Washington Lane.  But there’s always more money needed for all the projects that are necessary for the kids to succeed. Famed Chef Tony Clark Leaving Serafina to head up

In the ever revolving kitchen door of Serafina,
another chef is planning to exit within two years of the eateries opening.

First it was executive chef Scott Swiderski, who’s resume included a long time stint at Buddakan and a New York Minute stay at The Corner in Midtown Village. He was the opening chef at Serafina in April 2011 and then left a year later in April 2012. I recall a sous chef was moved into the position until they found their next big chef name.

Enter Chef Tony Clark (2nd from left) who’s resume includes the Four Seasons, The Rittenhouse, Tapestry, his own Tony Clark’s restaurant and he still operates The Old Grange by Tony Clark in Cape May.

Chef Tony Clark will now be the executive chef of the restaurants at Valley Forge Casino Restaurants. They include Pacific Prime, Valley Tavern, Asianoodle, American Grill, Viviano, Nosh Deli and Italian Market.

P.S. I wonder why they keep putting big named talented chefs in this position. Serafina is a chain restaurant, with set successful tasty recipe’s.  How much experiment with the food can really go into a menu like that?
