The Mainline Ladies Come out to Support Cancer Support Community

The Cancer Support Community (CSC) Greater Philadelphia held their 15th Annual “In Fashion!” Luncheon & Fashion Show in conjunction with Neiman Marcus. This year though they held the fundraiser on the Mainline at the Merion Cricket Club in Haverford and not in the store at King of Prussia Mall as had been done the past few years.

Mainline For this year’s fundraiser, CSC partnered with Neiman Marcus who carries fashion designer Brunello Cucinelli clothing. Brunello Cucinelli’s ready-to-wear, handbag and shoe collections represent an expression of everyday luxury and sophistication, where comfort and style come together in an inseparable combination.

There was a pop up shopping area where guests could buy Brunello Cucinelli’s designs. 10% of the proceeds would go to the CSC. Cucinelli regularly donates 20% of his profits through the Brunello Cucinelli Foundation.

It was a successful event. I loved the new venue. Please check out Cancer Support Community and all their wonderful services, and pass the word. There are so many wonderful organizations out there to help those in need. They need our support, but most of all they’re there if you need them. Many times people don’t realize these programs are available, unless they hear about them from their case worker.

Luxury 55+ Rental Community Comes to Cherry Hill – Plaza Grande

Luxury 55+ Rental Community Comes to Cherry Hill, and is located on one of the last free spaces on the former Garden State Racetrack properties. I used to work at the racetrack in the 80s, the new one, rebuilt after a devastating fire destroyed it April 14, 1977. By the time the new racetrack was built, in 1985, the times had changed and it was never really able to recapture the excitement again. Having grown up in Cherry Hill, I still have a nostalgic love for this property, and am excited for all the development that has happened to the land, especially the Wegman’s, the developments are great, but I really like this new one – Plaza Grande.

I love the community, the social interaction which is key at 55-plus communities and which Plaza Grande has. I love that the PR company Jenna Communications brought back a former jockey who raced at Garden State Park, to the hard hat press day to showcase the property.

Tony Black himself also paid the Plaza Grande a visit and shared stories of his racing days during the tour!
Tony Black told us that this location was where the horse stables were, and where the jockeys slept. He told us about the day of the fire and how they saved a man asleep in one of the buildings, and they escaped with just their personal affects and their lives.

Afterwards developer John Fasciano, of Tristate Ventures, L.P. gave us a tour of the property

Prost! The 7th Annual Ardmore Oktoberfest returns to Cricket Avenue on Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 2:00pm to 8:00pm. Downtown Ardmore will be transformed into a Bavarian wonderland complete with traditional German fare, brews, music and a brand-new VIP experience. McCloskey’s Tavern, John Henry’s Pub and Jack McShea’s will serve bratwurst, sauerkraut, pretzels with obatzda, potato pancakes, pierogies and more. McCloskey’s Tavern will tap nine beer and cider selections featuring local and seasonal favorites.

City Fitness Logan Square Sneak Preview and Celebration

Opening on Monday, September 11, 2017 – City Fitness Logan Square is CEO/President Ken Davies’ first Signature Club, occupying the entire second floor of The Sterling building on 18th and JFK Boulevard. At 40,000 square feet, City Fitness Logan Square is the largest dedicated fitness facility in Greater Center City Philadelphia. Last week City Fitness held a sneak preview party, and then celebrated the premier fitness clubs 10th Anniversary.

People cannot workout until they activate a pass (waivers, etc.) Over 2500 people registered so act now.

The 2nd Yappy Hour at Aqimero took place Tuesday at the latin inspired restaurant in the Ritz Carlton, and didn’t disapoint as many guests brought their dogs.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., guests enjoyed Aqimero’s lush ambiance and happy hour cocktail menu (margaritas, mojitos, wines by the glass, draught beers and draught beers) as well as some adorable drinks made especially for the event like the “Berry Good Boy” (made with muddled strawberries and Manatawny Stillworks’ Three Bitches Vodka [At Manatawny Still Works we love our dogs. A portion of all proceeds from our Three Bitches Vodka sales go to No-kill animal shelters ]). Guests “Yappy Hour” include fresh oysters, guacamole and wild mushroom flatbread.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the nonprofit Hemlock Edge Rescue, which is dedicated to rescuing homeless, abandoned and abused animals. Representatives from the organization will be on site with a few adorable puppies that will be available for adoption.

Ligne Roset Philadelphia celebrated community and the good work done by Need in Deed and Vetri Community Partnership at a private event hosted on Thursday evening, June 1, 2017 at their Old City location (33 N. 2nd Street). To honor the occasion, they auctioned off two Ottoman armchairs designed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, with special Masai upholstery by Raf Simons. 100% of the silent auction proceeds will go directly to these local charities. Both organizations are doing incredibly important work for the youth of Philadelphia.

The iffy weather let us explore the inside and outside of the newly renovated space which used to be Sugarhouse’s restaurant Refinery, but is now a more modern, rustic beer garden/gastro pub.

Another element I really liked about the new space was you don’t have to walk through the casino to get to it, you walk along a lovely landscaped path on the right side of the building.

Guests braved the NFL Draft traffic and enjoyed an evening of fun, fashion, food and catching up with friends at the pop-up.

James, the bar and restaurant Launched a New Menu for their Gastropub

According to my friends at Wikipedia: The term “gastropub” was coined in 1991, when David Eyre and Mike Belben took over The Eagle pub in Clerkenwell, London. Traditionally, British pubs were drinking establishments and little emphasis was placed on the serving of food. If pubs served meals they were usually basic cold dishes such as a ploughman’s lunch. I think we all can agree, especially the Yelpers of Philadelphia, that James, the bar/restaurant at 1835 Arch Street has delicious food.
