There are clothing shops in Center City, then there’s Joan Shepp’s, it’s an institution, she’s an innovator and very philanthropic and last week she had her 13th Annual Women of Substance and Style recognition party at her store 1616 Walnut Street in honor of Black History Month

Nadirah DeLuca invites her son up to help her accept her award. She was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes a few years ago, normally a shy women who does wonderful acts of kindness behind the scenes, her sons encouraged her to be more public and outspoken in matters, to find a cure, to make a difference. It was really a moving speech. A portion of the proceeds of the event went to benefit the Foundation for Type I Diabetes.
