Glee’s Chris Colfer, Wav Closed, Billy Joel Eats & Philly Gossip
Good Monday morning. I hope you had a great weekend. I did. I attended a family BBQ, which brings me such joy when I hang out with my sibs, were we tell stories of our youth – which crack me up. Then I headed down the shore for a dinner with friends, but first let’s chat about who’s coming to town this week
Glee’s Chris Colfer is stumping for Her: Cocktails with Colfer: Celebrate Hillary with Golden Globe Award-winning actor and #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Chris Colfer . How fun I thought, NBD, but then when I tweeted about it, it got 28 re-tweets. I guess people really like them both, alot. Tickets are quite reasonable at $20.16 for students and $45 for young adults.
Speaking of young friends, Saturday I attended a dinner fundraiser with the members of the Young Friends of The Academy of Music who enjoyed their inaugural summer dinner down the Shore this past weekend. Many thanks to Ventura’s Greenhouse for the amazing good and festivities and those who joined to raise a glass to the ongoing restoration and preservation of our “Grand Old Lady of Locust Street!” It was really delicious.
The Claridge Hotel hosted me, and the room was so adorable. It was the type of room I love, with it’s two chairs and desk. I like to read late into the night and I like chairs. The hotel doesn’t have a casino, so I had to make a donation to Bally’s next door. Willy Wonka let me down this week.
Oh another let down, Wav nightclub on the Playground Pier seems to have closed. The Atlantic City Press wrote a story about it, but says it might not be a done deal and they were going through a management change. I checked their website and FB and it’s down and out.
The Playground Pier itself seems to be chugging along. There are a lot of high end stores, as well as great restaurants with views like this. Mike and I had lunch at our fav, Continental. I had the most delicious salad with chicken for only $16. I’d like to see the pier become mostly restaurants, a few stores and a great disco where Wav once was. It’s really a great spot.
But the club did do double duty on Saturday as they hosted NeNe Leakes, who put on her own brand of comedy. Atlantic City’s Whitney Ullman was on hand to report it. Later in the evening she was at Harrah’s Pool interviewing Amber Rose, who has a new TV show on VH1. Amber as you know is from Philly, and stopped by Saturday afternoon to visit friends as well as stopped by Steve’s Cheesesteak for lunch.
Ahhh my favorite smoothie place closed, Raindrop Cafe at 19th and Market. Readers tell me a Panera Bread is opening in it’s place. OK I’ll take that, they have great salads.
UPDATE: Speaking of eating in Philly, members Billy Joel’s band had dinner at D’Angelo’s on Friday night. Saturday he played to a sold out crowd at Citizen Bank Park.
Daryl Hall & John Oates put on a great show at BB&T (Camden waterfront stadium). Friday night Darryl Hall also picked D’Angelo’s as a dinner spot. No word on if he and Billy Joel chatted.
Holy smokes
Friday Marilyn Russell, Kory Aversa and I will be participating in the Cabot Cheese’s Bad Beat on Hunger Poker Tournament to benefit the Community Foodbank of NJ. Entry fee is only $300, and it’s for charity.
Jackpot: Congrats to Eric Blumenfeld and Laura Cordaro on their engagement. Someone asked me why I didn’t include it in my round up but I didn’t know. So if you know someone who got engaged, got married, had a baby or something you think Philly would want to know send it along to Buzz @ PhillyChitChat.com
Congrats to Matt Pantaleno, formerly a cameraman for NBC10, has now landed a plum job NBC New York. Matt’s wife is our beloved 6ABC’s Alicia Vitarelli. The happily married couple are originally from the New York area, so smiles all around.
