Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper escape fire at his Parents Home in Jenkintown, Pa (Update: Bradley Cooper’s Father Dies)

As I tweeted at 2PM yesterday, TMZ reported first what is now a huge story on the wire services …

While many celebrities were attending the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills on Sunday night, Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper were calling the fire department in Pennsylvania.

A fire broke out at Cooper’s mother’s Philadelphia-area home on Sunday night while the stars of “Case 39” were there with family, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Luckily, the fire was manageable. “It was not a very major fire,” a fire official told the Reporter. “We didn’t have to use hoses. It was out within a few minutes. Pretty much the fireplace got a little out of control.” “No one was hurt. No one was transported to the hospital,” a police department supervisor noted.Hughe’s Note: Bradley Cooper & Renee Zellweger were scheduled to be a presenters at the Golden Globes, but canceled at the last minute. He’s in town to film additional scenes of his movie Limitless. At the time of the fire, his Limitless co-star Robert Deniro was receiving his lifetime achievement award. DeNiro is due back in town on Thursday to finish shooting the movie. The above photo is one I shot 10 days ago when he shot a scene in the subway concourse.

I’ve known since the summer that Bradley Cooper’s father had cancer, but decided not to write that story and am glad I didn’t. I didn’t want the family to be harassed in the final months of the father’s life, or speculation to run wild about whether Renee would see him through this terrible time. I know I made the right decision. (I did however tell several of my friends, who also agreed it was not a story to be told.)
