WHAT: The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, a founding resident company of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, presents its Lifetime Achievement Award Gala in honor of Philadelphia music legends Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. The Gala will kick off with cocktails and a three-course dinner, followed by the award ceremony and an evening of dancing and live music. In a special presentation for Mr. Gamble and Mr. Huff, Chamber Orchestra Music Director Dirk Brossé will direct members of the Orchestra in classical orchestrations of Gamble & Huff songs. Silent and live auctions will also take place, featuring travel opportunities, sports and music memorabilia, concert tickets and more. The event is black tie. WHO: The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, with Gala honorees Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, and Gala Chairman The Honorable Edward G. Rendell. Grammy Award winner Billy Paul and the TSOP Band led by Emmy Award winner Bill Jolly have been confirmed to help celebrate the award. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Billy Paul has released over ten albums with Mr. Gamble and Mr. Huff’s record label, Philadelphia International Records. Mr. Paul won a Grammy for his #1 hit written by Mr. Gamble and Mr. Huff, Me and Mrs. Jones, which he will perform at the Gala. WHEN: Saturday, May 21, 2011 · 6 p.m.
