HRH Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex to Visit Philadelphia

Once again Philadelphia will be one of the proud destinations chosen for a Royal visit. On April 26th, HRH The Prince Edward, KCVO will be visiting our fair city. As the new Patron of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, His Royal Highness’s visit will showcase the Philadelphia Students participating in this unique program. Founded in 1956 in the UK by Her Majesty the Queen’s husband, HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the international Award boasts operations in 132 countries around the world and is now entering its fourth year of operations in the United States. In just three years, the US Award has grown to over 21 states and enjoys thousands of participants annually. The US Award continually strives to expand its operations in efforts to positively influence the lives of America’s youth. Over 7 million people have received the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award since its inception. The Award’s fundamental philosophy and Four Tenant operational format have proved resilient, attractive, and adaptable, and it remains as relevant today as ever before. Last year, more than 140,000 participants from around the world earned a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has recently formed strategic partnerships with the Boy Scouts of America, the Miss America Organization, the Police Athletic League, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Living Classrooms and T. Rowe Price – and many others – to diversify its participant base and make the Award available to every youth in America. The mission: to positively influence the lives of America’s youth by inspiring youth to grow and achieve. As always, this is a very exciting time for us all and a reception is in the making where you will be able to see HRH Prince Edward and the fine students who are diligently working to achieve their goals in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
