“Cakes, Couture and Champagne” at Saks Fifth Avenue with Whipped Bakeshop

Last week, food and fashion collided at Saks Fifth Avenue in Bala Cynwyd. Philly-based Whipped Bakeshop teamed up with French fashion house Courrèges for “Cakes, Couture and Champagne,” a unique evening that paired the art of confections with the art of couture.

the Courreges fall collection, which is exclusive to Saks, was a sweet, fashionable event. (Everything old is new again as it’s a
revival of a mod brand that was big in the 1950s, 60s and 70s)

Whipped unveiled its first-ever collection of cakes, cookies and sweets
against a backdrop of the all-new retro chic line from Courrèges, a
Saks exclusive launching this fall.
André Courrèges is a dress designer
who first made a reputation in the Parisian fashion world of the 1960s
for futuristic, youth-oriented styles, and the mod line is now carried
at the Bala Cynwyd store.
The Blackberry Dot cake – one of eight in the #CakeFashion collection – was inspired by Courrèges’ signature white-and-white butterfly sleeve dress, which was used in a fashion shoot for the lookbook and invitation materials. The Floral cake, with its colorful bouquet of red, pink and orange daisies, also featured prominently in collection materials.
