Party People: Hotel Palomar’s Square 1682 is Renovated and Relaunched with a Fancy, Fun Party & delicious treats

You may recall last year I wrote that the Kimpton Hotel Palomar‘s restaurant Square 1682
was to undergo a renovation to spruce things up a bit in the restaurant. I’m here to tell you that the newly renovated place is banging, it’s a hot spot, on a hot corner, gone is the staircase, the bar has been moved to the side of the room, their are comfortable high tops, (and as a big guy that doesn’t love high tops, these are not your Ruby Tuesday high tops, they’re from Restoration Hardware and they are comfy), still consistent is the delicious food you liked before, and a lot more to choose from.  Since they’ve opened they finished their renovation late last month, I’ve been by twice. The food is delicious, I had the burger twice cause I love burgers, but friends, who I had dinner with last Monday night had the lettuce cups, Lamb Short Ribs, the steak, the Pork Tenderloin. We all shared several servings of the Bacon Wrapped Dates, Calamari, Dipping Trio and of course the truffled popcorn. They have a late night bar menu too, which I appreciate since I work late at night.
Lunch is great and they have a two lunch specials: The $16.82 choice and the $20.13
Here’s a Vine of my lunch with my buddy David Pershica, owner of Tapography, about two weeks ago.

Fashion Friday: Street Style on East Passyunk Ave during Flavors on the Ave and Craft Balboa PLUS The POPE STOOD HERE

While attending the East Passyunk Ave Flavors event last week, then hitting the street to shop at Craft Balboa, the cute little name for the craft show that coincides with the restaurant event, I noticed that the style and relaxed atmosphere of the neighborhood reminds me of Greenwich Village, and East Village of the ’80s and ’90s. It was exciting, I love street style fashion especially when people mix and match clothes to create their own style.
I think every Friday from here on out I’m going to write a Fashion Friday Column.I think someone could write one on East Passyunk Avenue weekly. There’s so much happening there.

I did, I told her I love your picnic cloth dress, she smiles. So adorable.
Marisa Brahney, News 12 Networks and Tony Muzyka, NBC10 at Flavors on the Avenue
Check out my Flavors on the Avenue photos at Philly.com
Seriously what a cute name.
Linda Belint selling ceramic wearables, and Chase Brown, who makes ceramic flasks, Wrongworld Ceramics
Project Runway winner Jay McCarroll selling his merchandise at Crafty Balboa. He looks great.
As my friends shopped I observed the fashion along the Avenue. How about these pom-poms on those boots. Now mind you, it was 75F, but she loves those boots in any kind of weather, and they look cute, thoughts?
East Passyunk Stroll

I’ve met Brenda Board of the Oliver & Company Tea Room a few times. I love her concept and they’ve been doing gang buster business at her little tea shop on the Avenue. She’s with a little lady we met 2 months ago, Elissa K Kara, Owner/Artist of Nice Things Handmade

My friends Jen Carroll and Madison Alpern joined me for a stroll on the Avenue after Flavors, and we found this cute little “Pop-Up” “antique store” and Rosalie Pinto. We noticed she had several Pope John Paul II items, collected  when the Pope spent two days in Philadelphia in October 1979. She was selling pieces of a rug that he stood on at the Cathedral for only $.25, I bought us all a little piece of history.

Photos: VIP Opening Party for Eviama Life Spa in Midtown Village PLUS YOUR INVITED TO…

Sunday I headed over to the new location of Eviama Life Spa in
Midtown Village, which had been previously located on 15th Street near
Locust for nearly 10 years.
Since 2002, owner Penny Ordway and her staff have provided clients with
holistic services meant to enhance their beauty, health and lives.

Before it was fashionable to be green or know what it meant,

owner Penny Ordway was pulling together resources for green construction and drawing plans that
respected energy flow and principles of feng shui; researching
alternative energy sources and ruthlessly healthy, pure organic products
for a spa; and devising a genuinely holistic treatment menu that could
bring the most benefit to clients. She wanted a real place for healing
in the city – and that is what the city got. The place is gorgeous, a real oasis in the middle of the hustling and bustling City. And it smells so good inside. Every time I walk in the place I really excited that something this special exists in Philadelphia, as I haven’t seen a spa of a similar nature as this in the City before. There nice, but this is really something special.
The door to Eviama Life Spa is on 13th Street, mid-block. A hallway takes you to an elevator and whisks you to the 2nd floor oasis in Center City. When you enter the door you really do feel like you’ve been transported to a spa in California or some exotic place. I love the sitting/meditation room with couches and over sized pillows.

The Sunday afternoon cocktail party brought out some of Philly’s notable and fashionable people including Tony Luke, Jr, and girlfriend, Jennifer Schloder (they jointly work on a blog together called: Married to Food), Roberta Pipto, Robin Austin (Check out AskMissRobin.org
) and Tony Bruno (Both Tony’s will be judging The Burger Brawl on Sunday)

Kate Marlys, Philly Pr Girl is helping promote Preakness on the Piazza on May 18. Sounds like an epic Piazza party, and an epic day with The Rittenhouse Row Festival going on, The Radnor Hunt annual race and in the evening the Eastern State Penitentiary’s Masquerade Ball’ with Priya Kothari
Kristen Gangl and Kristen Levenick, Specialist @PeopleLinx: The Leader in Social Business Optimization Software
Taylor Test and Alexander Hankin tried out a modified 60-minute Eviama Simple Facial- created around the
botanicals-derived Dr.Hauschka product line- is chemical-free and
includes cleansing, massage, and a skin-purifying mask.

Fashion Bloggers in the house: Styled Out Loud’s Mecca Nuri, with Her Philly’s Emily Tharp and Zoha Memari, Posh to Ganache

Penny Ordway and the always fashionable Maria Papadakis. Maria has been a long time client of
Penny’s and Eviama Life Spa, sometimes it’s the only place I can gab with MP as she’s relaxed and she’s not trying to accomplish 10 million things.
 Noel Booth and Bridgett Morris
KYW1060’s Hadas Kuznits and baby Geffen stopped by

Did I mention there was a gift store with cards, jewelery, and lovely gifts. I could spend all day in there just looking at all the fun stuff.
Plus it smells so nice at the spa.

UPDATE: Adress and Jacque Ferber & Joan Shepp

I noticed a few weeks ago the building housing the very popular boutique Adresse was for sale. I meant to go inside and ask owner Stephanie Lutzo about it but was running off somewhere.

Update: Adress only enjoyed Ferbers on Walnut Street “Pop-up” store for a week or so as they were waiting for their new place in Old City to open. But don’t fret, sources close to her tell me she will be moving to Walnut Street in early 2014.

As for Joan Shepp, my sources tell me that she should look at the old Adress store, and/or Chestnut Street. The rents will not be getting any cheaper on Walnut Street, even for a women of her stature who helped revitalized the street. Specifically they said “let the big monied corporations come in and rent up the street at $100 a foot, and let’s revitalize Chestnut street.”

As for Ferber, there are changes in store for them. Their marketing concept is changing I hear. Personally I really wish Joan Shepp would move into there and just share that window. It’s lovely.

Last night I walked by and most everything was removed.
But great news, they’ve taken their store over to Philly’s answer to Rodeo Drive – Walnut Street, otherwise known as Rittenhouse Row. (The festival is 5/18/13) At that moment I was thinking 1708 where’s that on the street.  I can only recall one store vacancy on Walnut Street at the moment and that’s the
The old Puma Store at 1505 Walnut St [is closed]. (they left lock stock and barrel sometime in the last week, and have the ugliest cardboard up on the windows as if we were going to notice they were gone.)
No, it’s across the street, next to Doc Martens

Adresse is now sharing store space with Jacques Ferber. What a great idea since fur is seasonable.

The Center City showroom has been a fixture on Walnut Street since 1930’s and have no plans of going anywhere anytime soon. They’ve even opened up a new store in Wayne, PA. Why didn’t Joan Shepp join forces with Ferber.

I recall a conversation with someone at the Joan Shepp’s a few weeks back, when they looked at the space, they told me they really wanted to have creative control over the window, especially during holiday time, which is the height of the fur season.  I love love love a Joan Shepp window so I can understand that thinking, even though it’s a great location and store set up. (The Ferbers own the building too) Today I called Joan Shepp to ask about a rumored moved to Chestnut St, the person who answered said Joan Shepp is not moving to Chestnut Street, and the PUMA store is too small, but it does have nice windows.

Joan Shepp would love to see you at their Accessory Fling today. 1616 Walnut Street
Then Tonight Intermix and Cori Moskow wants you to stop by Intermix at 6PM for their party which benefits HELPUSAADOPT.ORG
