If you drove by Broad and Chestnut yesterday afternoon you must have seen the crowds
Waiting to get a chance to meet their idols “Empire” stars Jussie Smollett and Bryshere “Yazz the Great” Gray, (Jamal and Hakeem Lyon), who were signing their chart topping CD soundtrack based on the hit Fox TV show. I love love love the Courtney Love song, “Walk Out On Me”, soulful and tragic.
It was loud, fun, and sometimes a circus atmosphere.
Most importantly the crowd was enthusiastic to meet the two sexy leads from the hit show (If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, run down walk to your computer and binge watch via Fox.)
A few of the girls inside the store get the first glimpse of the young stars.
Who were upstairs getting their interview on with Fox29’s Alex Holley.
What you can’t hear is some of the thousands of fans banging on the windows, we thought they were going to break. Not since Nikki Minaj have I seen so many fans come out for someone.
Then Jussie & Yazz headed downstairs to the signing, to the tune “You’re So Beautiful”. Despite the warnings of no photos with the stars, the boys did take time to do pixs/with and gave out lots of hugs.
Bryshere “Yazz the Great” Gray, (r) was born and raised in West Philadelphia, is Empire’s fresh prince says Philly.com, and I think they’re right. He’s now managed by Philly’s Charlie Mac, who had a hand in Will Smith’s career.
When I left to hit my next gig, the atmosphere outside the store was as energetic as ever, and that’s when I noticed the line was 2 blocks strong at 4PM
Even last night at 5:30PM, in the drizzle, the line was still going strong for the entire block of Chestnut Street. This shot was taken from the Pipeline – co-working space at City Hall and 15th.
