Sprouts Farmers Market Opens Today – Check out The Pictures Here

Sprouts Farmers Market Opens Today – Check out The Pictures Here

Sprouts Farmers Market opened this morning, Wednesday, September 19, with their first market in Pennsylvania. A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at 7am at the 1000 South Broad Street location with the commanding view of Philadelphia’s skyline in the background.

Sprouts Farmers Market occupies the renovated historic train shed at Broad and Carpenter streets, which remained in disrepair after it’s storied history in the last century.
The train shed was the place where President Abraham Lincoln’s body was held for viewing following his assassination.
There’s a great article at Hidden City Philly about the train shed.

Natural lighting streams into the space
The main focus of Sprouts is it’s produce where they offer Organic produce

as well as regular produce
There’s a honey station, as well as an olive oil station

You know it’s a great place when they carry Vesper Brothers sauces – Hey John Vesper and Bill Vesper.

One of my favorite sections was the one pan meal. Lots of variety, as well as decent prices between $7 to $12.

Sprouts is committed to eliminating waste and fighting hunger in our communities.  Sprouts has a Food Rescue program, through which they donate unsold, edible food to local food banks — or, in Philly’s case, to Philabundance. Today they donated a $20,000 donation to Urban Tree Connection, a Philly-based non-profit that works with low-income communities to transform vacant open spaces.

They have a great bulk area, where you can can choose between nuts,

as well as bulk candy, and trail mix
Apple season is always in at Sprouts Market

The cheese section is up front, but the rest of the dairy products can be found in the back of the store. I spoke to the GM and he promises to look into carrying my favorite cheese – Cabot Cheese, the snack version.

There were a lot of variety of burgers, including veggie selections

This is a great price

Parking is free in the lot next door, as long as you park 90 mins or less and get your parking stub validated at the cashier. For the next two weeks it’s free until they get the gates installed. There were about 7 or 8 check out counters. I think they’re going to need more.

They were missing a few magazines of note, especially Philly Magazine

Ice machine and motorized chairs for shoppin
Everyone today gets a free Sprouts mesh shopping bag
Mum is no longer the word.
Head to Sprout’s Farmer’s Market for fresh produce, meats and organic foods. There’s easy access parking, the aisles are spacious, every week they have blowout sales, there’s a demonstration kitchen, and there is a charity component. It’s a real gift to South Philly.

The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation (TMJF) 5th Annual Blitz, Bow-Ties & Bourbon Gala

The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation (TMJF) 5th Annual Blitz, Bow-Ties & Bourbon Gala

Good morning. Sorry I missed posting a few days last week, as you know Social Season started and well after taking two months off I forgot how to balance my time. I took the time off to get balance, but I forgot work was what I was trying to balance – lol. I think I have things under control.  Also I am learning to use my new computer. You’ll recall my last computer was about 8 years old, on purpose, I didn’t want to learn the new technology. Now I’m learning as I go along.
Jenkins
Hey good looking. Finally I get to see the real Lombardi Trophy up close and personal. They have a few copies floating around, and I have seen them at, most recently at the NFL Experience last week.
Although the real one was at The Today Show taping, and was spotted later that day dining at The Union League.

Last Monday I photographed The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation (TMJF) 5th Annual Blitz, Bow-Ties & Bourbon Fundraiser which was held the night after the big win, helping to kick-off the Eagles’ season in style by hosting its exclusive event on September 10 at the Lincoln Financial Field West VIP Club.  Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the foundation’s youth development programs and initiatives in under-served communities, including Young Dragons –Summer STEAM, a six-week long summer program at Drexel University, dedicated to educating Philadelphia elementary and middle school students living in the ‘Promise Zone’, in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Athletics and Mathematics.

The annual event was held at Union Trust for the first 4 years, but this year The Jenkins Foundation moved it to the Linc, creating an exciting atmosphere where many of our Super Bowl Philadelphia Eagles were on hand meeting and greeting the guests. There were also tours of the stadium for all who attended.  In between checking out the trophy and stadium, guests enjoyed treats from everyone’s favorite eating spots. I’ve heard great things about Love & Honey Fried Chicken.

You know I love Bank & Bourbon at the Loews headed by Executive Chef Thomas Harkins. They have the best Cowboy steak in town, every year I cover their anniversary party where they raise money for the school district. Chef Harkins tells me they have new menu items I have to try; so as soon as I do I’ll tell you about it. Bank & Bourbon is located in the Loews Hotel, at 12th & Market Streets.
Part of the Schulson Collective, everyone is anticipating the opening of their newest eatery Giuseppe & Sons at 1523 Sansom St
In the meantime stop by one of my favorite Italian restaurants D’Angelo’s on 20th Street, near Spruce.
Get the lasagna, my favorite dish.

I headed upstairs to the VIP, vip party and ran into
Miriam Lawrence
joined her daughter Mrs. Malcolm Jenkins – Morrisa Jenkins
Malcolm and Morrisa have two beautiful daughters together; Elle born in December 2013, and Selah Nola born in January 2018. The next big project for Mrs Jenkins is her new natural skincare and self-care boutique, Freedom Apothecary, opening in a few weeks in Northern Liberties at 736 N 2nd Street.
All fans attending the event received official NFL Eagles footballs, which were already signed by Malcolm Jenkins, and then the guests
collected signatures from players that attended.

Other fashionable folks spotted at the gala included Ivory Edwardo and Afea Tucker

My favorite outfit was Annie Apple, who tells me her son Eli Apple plays for the NY Giants, and Malcolm mentors him as they met because they attended the same college. Thoughts are with their family as he was injured in the game with Dallas on Sunday.

Philly’s Bradley Cooper In Town for ‘A Star Is Born’ Screening – My Review, What He Said to The Audience

Philly’s Bradley Cooper In Town for ‘A Star Is Born’ Screening – My Review, What He Said to The Audience

Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born is the 4th ‘A Star is Born. First 1937 Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, next 1957 Judy Garland and James Mason, then Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
Now in 2018 – Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga

Cooper
Last night at the Prince, the who’s who of lucky Q102 contest winners, as well as invited guests came out to see a screening of the new Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga film “A Star is Born”

I ran into more than a few PhillyChitChat fans who loved the movie

Hey Jennifer Braxton , thanks for stopping to say hi. Spotted in the crowd was Nancy Glass, Councilman O’Neil, City Rep Sheila Hess, The Hamiltons: Sam, Anne and Dr Thanju Hamilton, Jeff Guaracino , the new president of Visit Philly, with some of his team Jim Werner, Cara Schneider, and Michael Newmuis, Larry Korman, Sharon Pinkenson, Andrew Greenblatt, Sue and Jason Jacquette who told her friends: Jason and I saw A Star Is Born last night, and Bradley Cooper came out to answer questions afterward. Beautiful movie. Please go see it. You won’t be disappointed. #movienight #getyourtissuesready #filmisart

When Bradley Cooper arrived at the Prince Theater around 9PM, he headed to the Blackbox to do 1 minute interviews with 3, 6,10, and 29.  I later heard he arrived earlier in the day and spent most of it with his mom, and visiting relatives. Dinner was at Dandelion, and today he was headed to Germantown Academy to show the film to his alumni high school.

He carried a vintage Eagles hat onto the stage with him wearing a Muhammad Ali jacket, where he was doing a Q&A conducted by Ukee Washington, CBSPhilly, who he has been a long time friend of; Ulysses Samuel “Ukee” Washington III has a packed Rolodex of celebrity connections including his cousin Denzel Washington. Despite his legendary status here in Philadelphia, he remains unaffected, very personable and has a memory sharp as a tack.  He reminded Jenkintown’s Bradley Cooper (BC) of their long history, as a kid BC appeared on a show which Ukee hosted. BC remembered well, and chuckled about it.

I felt that being in Philly brought back many memories of growing up here. BC told many stories about his family, including his sister, who he rarely talks about, Holly. Holly and I were FB friends for many years, until BC had a child and she felt it was necessary to end our friendship to protect the child’s privacy. I wasn’t offended and understood. We still corresponded on occasion, I’m going to write her to tell her of the nice things her brother said of her last night. Basically he told a story about how his older sister was his protector when they were growing up, often wearing her Phillies hat nearly every day in their youth. He also talked about his dad, his inspiration, who died of lung cancer in 2011. BC stopped his life and spent a good part of a year here in the Philly area taking care of his dad. A few years ago the actor, director, and producer Cooper founded the Bradley Charles Cooper Foundation and is an ambassador for Stand Up to Cancer. – ‘My hope is that one day every person fighting cancer will receive the full support they need to maintain their quality of life from the day of diagnosis to the end of their treatment regardless of economic or social status.’ – Bradley Cooper

It was at a charity event raising funds for families who have a loved one going through cancer, that he first met Lady Gaga. She was a surprise guest and sang “La Vie En Rose.”
It immediately struck him that she would be perfect for the role opposite of him. He had to convince Warner Brothers, and before too long they were on board as well. “La Vie En Rose” made it’s way into the movie, and is the one song which appears in the movie which I’ve heard before. Did you know that Bradley Cooper sings in A Star is Born, plus he wrote a few of the songs, as did Lady Gaga. I can’t wait for the soundtrack.

One Song He Didn’t Want to Sing:
During the Q&A a man asked BC to do the Eagles Fight song, everyone broke out their cell phones to capture the social media moment, BC declined, I was disappointment , but remembered he had the hat on stage, tonight was about the movie not a viral video.

A women in the audience told BC she was disappointed he didn’t win the Oscar for Silver Lining Project, but said the reason was he was going to get it for this performance. She talked about how the movie would resonate with events relevant today, drug use, alcoholism, addictions and suicide. She said both had touched her life, with her dad committing suicide 9 years earlier. BC got up and hugged the women tightly.

Andrew Dice Clay was an interesting choice for the movie, but BC said he’s dad loved ADC, and they would watch him together on the Rodney Dangerfeld show and just crack up. He had to convince Dave Chappelle for two years to be in the movie. Ron Rifkin has a tiny part in the movie, he has worked with BC in Limitless, the TV series and of course Alias. So for his first film BC went after people who held special meaning in his life. That’s wonderful, and deep. Before we knew it the Q&A was over. I was bummed that no one in the audience mentioned his amazing singing, and masterful directorial debut.  I was excited that Ukee read a review from Variety, who knows if BC would have heard about it. He told us he doesn’t read reviews. He creates art and presents it to the audience.  Art is subjective.

The back of Bradley’s jacket  said The Thrilla in Manila, The Thrilla in Manila was the third and final boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, noted as the greatest fight ever.
BC is a dad now.

As Bradley Cooper headed out the back door to his waiting SUV, he ran into a few fans who got graphs from him including Team Derek, who collected lucky 7.

My official Review of a Star is Born

Scenes from the Miss America Parade, See What Miss New York Carried Along The Way

Scenes from the Miss America Parade, See What Miss New York Carried Along The Way

Every couple years I like to cover the Miss America “Show Us Your Shoes” Parade. For years the parade was just called the Miss America Parade, but in the past few years it’s been called “Show us Your Shoes” parade. My understanding is the gays on the traditional gay street New York Avenue in AC, would ask the gals to see their shoes. I used to watch the parade from that street in the 90s, just to hear the guys request the showing of the Miss’ shoes.

Saturday days parade was one of the dismal events as far as the weather

But the spirit was not dampened as so many fans, many of them women with tiaras lined the boardwalk to enjoy the annual tradition

Someone I rarely see in a parade – Smokey the Bandit

Definitely one of my favorite photos little princesses with their Miss America 2018 Miss America 2018 Cara Mund
Former Miss America’s participated in the parade

Thanks to Ocean Resorts Casino for hosting me this weekend at their new casino resort in Atlantic City.

A Day in The Life – Kickoff 2018 – My Favorite Photos

A Day in The Life – Kickoff 2018 – My Favorite Photos

What a fantastic day yesterday, our Super Bowl Champs attracted national attention to celebrate the win and I set out to capture it all. I woke up early to head to the Today Show, which was filming at the Comcast Center with my friend Sheinelle Jones, formerly of Fox 29, and Al Roker.

There were a few Philly related segments filmed here, while the bulk of the show took place in NYC. But we got a nice slice of the Apple with a food segment with Chef’s Brian Duffy, Jennifer Carrol, Spice Finch and Kevin Spraga, Fitler Club

Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones were great with the guests

and all the fans who showed up, greeting them and posing for photos. See the Lombardi Trophy, this is the actual one which is inscribe with
the Super Bowl details, date, teams etc.
Yum, and Federal Donuts were on hand for the segment
Billy Riddle, co-owner/chef of Spice Finch was impressed with the Eagle on set
The Today team checks out the food before the segment
Brian Roberts, Comcast CEO was on hand to check out the goings on
Mad Money’s Jim Cramer, who was born in Wyndmoor, Pa, and whose folks are from the area with the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders. He’s been a Philly Eagles season ticket holder for 20 years, and loves Geno’s over Pat’s. Check out this interview with him at Philly.com

Then I headed over to Fox 29 to rally for the Eagles. This guy had a sign saying get well Alex Holley, we miss you. Alex is on voice rest, and spending time with her family in Texas. She says hi, and she can’t wait to see you all soon. You can send her well wishes on her Twitter

Alisa Frederico , Dressing Jane, prepares for her fashion segment on Fox 29
On the far right is my friend, and security guard at Fox 29 – Ed. He’s the best.
My new friends, the fans of Shawn Mendes filled me in that he’d just returned from Sweat gym at Broad & Chestnut, and told them he’d come out after his shower to pose with them. I waited 2 hrs before I had to leave to p/u my credentials from the NFL Experience. He ended up coming out at around 2PM. These ladies are troopers as they waited nearly 24hrs for their meet and greet, but all of them said it was worth it.
Headed over to NFL Experience. SO HOT doesn’t describe the day enough. Here’s legend’s Brent Celek and Jeremy Trotter signing for fans.
Genius idea, these two sell Jason Kelce’s famous Mummers Costume. I think I’m going to get one for Halloween.
PhillyParadeCostume.com

This is a replica of the Lombardi Trophy. I noticed it wasn’t inscribe, live during my FB feed yesterday.
So bummed, I have yet to meet the real one.
I did meet a lot of awesome Eagles fans though
Bose had a contest and gave out tickets to the Eagles games. Here’s a lucky winner.
I met these two nice women at lunch at Rope & Anchor at the Penns Landing Hilton. They won tickets for a meet & greet with Shawn Mendes at the NFL Experience and traveled to Philly from Dallas to do so. They made a week out of it, seeing a lot of our famous sites.
Check out additional photos here on CBSPhilly

and remember to follow me on Social Media for more photos, stories, celebrity sightings and say hi.
Sorry this was somewhat abbreviated of a post with out names, I’m headed to the shore to check out the new Ocean Resort Casino Hotel and have to get ready to go. Thanks for all your support, always. Have a great weekend.

Take the Teal Butterfly Challenge To Raise Awareness for Ovarian Cancer

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Spread the Word, Do the Challenge

Ovarian
My sister Janine DeFeo and her friend Amy Roberts created the Teal Butterfly Challenge to raise Ovarian Cancer Awareness after the disease affect people they love.
(I am so inspired and proud of my sister Janine and her friend Amy and what they have accomplished in the past 5 years)

For Janine is was our sister Judy Wilkins, and for Amy her grandmother Mae, who both passed away.
Here’s their message:

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month…..Please help us spread awareness for this horrid disease by taking the Teal Butterfly Challenge. It’s simple and fun. The challenge can be taken by anyone, anywhere by following these simple steps.

*Paint your nails, teal (the color designated for ovarian cancer)
*Make a butterfly symbol with your hands
*Take a photo and post on social media using the hashtag
#tealbutterflychallenge
*Tag your friends and challenge them to do the same

We love to see challenges from all over the world so include your location if you will. And be creative!!!!

Spreading awareness for Ovarian Cancer one Teal Butterfly at a time….

An estimated one woman in 74 will develop ovarian cancer during her lifetime. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be over 22,280 new cases of ovarian cancer diagnosed this year.

The biggest take away….LISTEN TO YOUR BODY, IF SOMETHING DOESN’T FEEL RIGHT SAY SOMETHING! ASK QUESTIONS!!!! KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!!!

Early Detection
Early detection of ovarian cancer saves women’s lives. No screening test exists that can test all women for ovarian cancer. The Pap test does not test for ovarian cancer; it screens for cervical cancer.
Not only do researchers need to develop an early detection test for ovarian cancer, like mammograms for breast cancer and Pap tests for cervical cancer, women and medical professionals also need to become more aware of ovarian cancer symptoms.

The Butterfly Challenge is a 501c3 raising funds, but mostly awareness for Ovarian Cancer. It’s a labor of love for Janine and Amy

Signs & Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is difficult to detect, especially, in the early stages. This is partly due to the fact that the ovaries, two small, almond-shaped organs on either side of the uterus, are deep within the abdominal cavity. The following are often identified by women as some of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer:

~Bloating
~Pelvic or abdominal pain
~Trouble eating or feeling full quickly
~Feeling the need to urinate urgently or often
Other symptoms of ovarian cancer can include:
~Fatigue
~Upset stomach or heartburn
~Back pain
~Pain during sex
~Constipation or menstrual changes
If symptoms are new and persist for more than two weeks, it is recommended that a woman see her doctor, and an OB/GYN
