From Dorm Rooms to The Griffin Apartments

The Griffin Apartments Debuts – Here’s What Your Dorm Room Looks Like Now

In between two fabulous client assignments, I ran over to the “ribbon cutting” of the new Griffin Apartments, (MRP Residential.) They did an amazing job at converting the building from a worn out, trashed student residence, to a home waiting to be occupied.

HD1_2068 (Custom)

It’s an interesting property, as the first 4 floors were retained by the previous owner. On the first floor is the wildly popular Capital Grille, where many a power deal while breaking bread, as well as a popular celeb eatery, most recently Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill had dinner there, and you’ll recall I got a shot of Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth leaving after lunch one day, anyway…next door was Olive Garden, which I liked as well. Well the OG is no more. The owner, who is represented by MSC is looking to put retail in that space, as well as two of the 3 remaining floors that he owns above that. Very clever i’d say.

I was excited to check out the digs, and snapped a corner 2 bedroom. The price $2700 – $3500 a month with killer views of Broad Street. Think front row Mummer’s Parade watching.

1 bedrooms were $2300+ – Location, Location, Location

After the complete gutting of the building,  the construction workers found the original spiral staircase that winds through the structure. It is now encased in glass for all to see, as well as to let the light in from the courtyard, which had been sealed off.HD1_1965 (Custom)

But then I saw the roof deck. I love good outdoor space.

Quick Vacation and Now I’m Back

Quick Vacation and Now I’m Back

Ugh I broke one of my promises to never miss a day posting on PhillyChitChat since launching my new site. To think I went 5 straight years never missing a post. Then I started taking on those other columns, and well PCC took a back seat and I would miss one here or there. It’s like every time I start a diet. Anyway let’s say going forward from July 1 or even July 7th which will be PCC 9th anniversary, I won’t miss a post for a year. Maybe that’s when I’ll start my diet too, nah, I’d better start that right now, especially after that BFF vacation with Kory Aversa. We ate too much. Vacation

The other day I looked out, passed my balcony, and caught a Peregrine Falcon flying high over Philadelphia. I love see that bird. When I worked as a paralegal I had a great window near my desk and I would catch the birds flying near their nest at City Hall. So I’m always excited to see them. They’re huge, Liberty One is about a mile from my house. BTW today I’ll be covering an interesting event at the One Liberty Observation Deck today. They had a contest and someone won an overnight stay there. Their “hotel room” will be furnished by Kimpton’s. Very clever. It’s a fabulous view during the day, great sunsets, it’s ok at night especially if you’ve never seen the City from a view so high, but it’s dark and oh so high.  Vacation

Congrats to my brother in law Joe on his retirement from Exxon Refineries. My sister threw him a little party last weekend. I so love seeing my family. I don’t make a lot of time for them, but I love them lots. _DSC8586 (Custom)

On Monday Atlantic City, the City and Richard Helfant, president of Greater Atlantic City GLBT Alliance honored the victims who were killed in Orlando. Rich told me about the event when I visited Lucy the Elephant in Margate last week with my sister Crista and her kids. He’s the president of Lucy too. We go every year. It’s a tradition and the kids love it.Vacation

It was a nice program with officials and a great crowd turn out too. Here’s Mark Segal, president of PGN reading an opinion letter that was published in the Washington Post about Orlando, which they asked Mark to write.

The Night B4 The Ball – The Little Friends Festival

Held annually on the third Thursday of June, the Ball on The Square is the Friends of Rittenhouse Square’s largest fundraising event.

Night

The Ball on The Square is an annual black tie gala with magical ambience, an elegant sit-down dinner, fabulous music and dancing. Held under a large tent in the center of the Square, the Ball transforms the park into a sparkling ballroom for one night.

Night

But the night before: The Little Friends Festival is the Friends of Rittenhouse Square’s family-friendly fundraiser.

_DSC8513 (Custom)

During the Little Friends Festival, the center of Rittenhouse Square becomes a carnival, concert, and block party all rolled into one under a large tent – the same tent that houses the black-tie Ball on The Square the following night. Featuring music, amusements, performances, rides, food, and crafts, the Little Friends Festival is one of the community’s favorite events and brings together hundreds of Philadelphia children and the adults who care for them.

Night

In addition to playing games and having fun, many parents consider this event a resource to learn more about educational and extra-curricular opportunities for their children. It is considered by city children to be a “can’t miss” party and marks the unofficial start to summer. Invitations are sent out to members in mid-spring. Tickets are required for admittance.

Night

Tickets are family friendly $10 for adults, and $14 for kids and include all the pizza, hot dogs, candy, ice cream, water and juice boxes you can drink.

We Stand with Orlando – The Philly Pride Parade 2016

I can’t begin to tell you the depth of my sadness for the lives that were destroyed in the name of someone’s god in Orlando on Sunday. The terrorists almost won my day as I just couldn’t bring myself to go to the annual Philly Pride Parade, an event I’ve been going to for decades, and I’m proud to bring to you each June. I finally arrived at 1:30PM, caught the end of the prideful bunch to pass Independence Hall, my favorite spot to watch, an iconic image that speaks to the founding of our country free from religious or no religious persecution.

Thomas Jefferson explained his support for religious freedom in practical terms: “(I)t does me no injury for my neighbor to believe in twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.”

Tonight at 6:30PM on the north side of Philadelphia City Hall there will be a vigil for those who were killed and injured in Orlando. I’m sorry I can’t be there as I am going to a family reunion, but I do hope there’s an enormous turnout so that we can show the world we will not let the terrorist put fear in our lives. I hope you will join me in New York City for the Pride Parade on June 26, to send a message to the terrorist that the United States will not cower in fear from hate, but send a message of love and light to all.

Philly Gossip : Shia LaBeouf, Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill SPLIT

Philly Gossip : Shia LaBeouf, Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill, Usher and Stanley Tucci

6-7-2016 1-56-06 AM (Custom)

Last week was a crazy week for PhillyChitChat, I was super busy and didn’t get to my weekly Philly Gossip column, so here it is. Last weekend was a hot, hot, hot celebrity weekend. The Roots Picnic was going on as well as Wizard World, both of which brought lots of celebrities to town like Stanley Tucci, who was in town for Wizard World, who had dinner Friday night at Suga’s which I mentioned last week. Nearby was 6ABC’s Nydia Han who told me her group really wanted to invite him over for dessert. The next evening Tucci watched the sunset from The Logan’s Assembly Lounge, which overlooks the Parkway.

6-7-2016 9-03-16 AM (Custom)

Usher was the headliner for the Root’s Picnic. When he arrived in town he headed to North Philly and got a cheesesteak at Max’s near Germantown Ave.

He posed for photos, and even sang with a few fans before he headed to Festival Pier for what I hear was an amazing, life changing set.

6-11-2016 6-08-52 AM (Small)

Meek Mill is a free man after 90 days of house arrest for a probation violation; guess he didn’t realize that is was spring cause he showed up to the Root’s Picnic to celebrate with his bae, Nicki Minaj, in black jeans and sweater.

6-11-2016 6-08-34 AM (Small)

When it got too hot to handle they headed to South Street which sent fans into a frenzy, to pick up a whole new outfit – tshirt, and white jeans, before heading back to the picnic and the rest of the concert.

Meek

Fans waiting outside Princess on South Street

Meek

The duo was low key all week until Wednesday, when I started getting lots of tips that they were dining at Devon seafood on Rittenhouse Square near midnight. Then the next day this picture popped up on Meek Mill’s Instagram.

6-11-2016 6-04-00 AM (Small)

Friday Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj flew out of Philly (split the scene). I guess his probation is over. Best wishes for a long time of love.

Actor Shia LaBeouf’s latest project has him traveling across the country using his Twitter coordinates.

The project is called “Take Me Anywhere.” He teamed up with Vice News, the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and the Finnish Institute in London.

LaBeouf and two artists use their GPS coordinates broadcast via Twitter to allow random strangers to pick them up and take them anywhere, all in the name of art.

#TAKEMEANYWHERE by LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner (2016)  Commissioned by Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art as part of MediaLive 2016, and The Finnish Institute in London.  Project supported by Frame Contemporary Art Finland and Vice.  Site programming by Citrusbits.

6-11-2016 9-55-24 PM (Small)

The project began on May 23 and is expected to last until June 23. Last night his adventure (and Keily Cloude) brought him to Philadelphia from New Castle, Indiana.
