Harry Potter Spin-Off to be Filmed in Philadelphia

This past week I had been hearing rumors ie my google alerts have been blowing up, that the Harry Potter Spin-Off “Quidditch Through The Ages” was to be Filmed in Philadelphia.

Quidditch is a competitive sport in the Wizarding World of the Harry Potter universe, featured in the series of novels and movies.

I saw a posting about it on FB from a friend who lived in Chestnut Hill. I thought could it be that J. K. Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter series, had heard about Chestnut Hill’s very popular Harry Potter Festival Weekend which occurs every fall in the leafy neighborhood.

courtesy of Chestnut Hill Business Association

Had she heard about the Mid-Atlantic, round robin “muggle” Quidditch tournament held at Chestnut Hill College. Had she heard that this year Chestnut Hill College will host its Fifth Annual Harry Potter Conference
in October 2016. The Harry Potter Conference is an annual,
interdisciplinary academic conference held at Chestnut Hill College that
provides a forum for scholarly presentations arising out of J.K.
Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Maybe they would film then.

I found a news article on March 18 with the Harry Potter rumor from KSP33 News –
A new Harry Potter spin-off film tentatively entitled “Quidditch Through the Ages,” based on J.K. Rowling’s spin-off novel of the same name is reportedly in the early stages of pre-production and a significant portion of it will be filmed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Details of the film are understandably tight-lipped at this point but insider sources claim that it centers around the Quidditch World Cup which will take place in Philadelphia.
Quidditch, a sport popular among wizards and witches, was a key element of the novels but was significantly cut from the Harry Potter films.
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are reprising their roles for the upcoming film as are a number of others from the Harry Potter series.  “Quidditch Through the Ages” will be the next spin-off after 2016’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” but it will be the first spin-off to have much of the original cast. (source)
But then my hopes were dashed when I found another story floating around on a site called Local News 33
A new Harry Potter spin-off film tentatively entitled “Quidditch Through the Ages,” based on J.K. Rowling’s spin-off novel of the same name is reportedly in the early stages of pre-production and a significant portion of it will be filmed in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.  Details of the film are understandably tight-lipped at this point but insider sources claim that it centers around the Quidditch World Cup which will take place in Charlotte.

(Source)

Then the O’Reilly Post’s title said:

Harry Potter Spin-Off to be Partly Filmed in Kansas City

Is this an early April Fools Day Joke? Ugh I have Harry Potter mad click rage….Does anyone know the real story? I hope there’s an inkling of truth, maybe there are going to film it in all the cities?

PhillyGossip: Russell Westbrook Gets Lucky, Dance Mom Tot in town, Baby News, Philly Actor in House of Cards, and Chio in the Morning

Happy Monday Morning, so glad the weather alarmist were wrong and it didn’t snow on the beautiful cherry trees which have begun to blossom.

A photo posted by Philly ChitChat (@phillychitchat) on Mar 18, 2016 at 2:51pm PDT

I’m on my way to DC later this week and am excited to see their Cherry Blossoms bloom for the first time. I’m being hosted by Capitol Hill Hotel. They have a very interesting Election Year deal going on that they want me to experience. You can follow my exploration of DC via their twitter @CapHillHotel  as I take over their account next weekend.

Oklahoma Thunder’s Russell Westbrook was in town last week to play against the Sixers on Friday. Thursday was a big day for Westbrook. He stopped by the True Religion store at 1604 Walnut St to check out his new like of tshirts and sweat pants. (shot from video he posted) Later that night he got lucky at SugarHouse Casino. On Friday he made a sweet 1 handed dunk to Thundering past the Sixers in a final score of 111 to 97.

In town yesterday was Dance Mom’s breakout tiny tot star JoJo Siwa. Who greeted a long line of fans as well as the Kellmer Family at SunMyst Tanning Salon (124 S 16th St,)
Jeff Kellmer (l) Marilyn Kellmer (r)

Speaking of Sun Myst, I reported earlier this year that Susie Celek‘s Skin Palette sunless tans is now offered at Sun Myst. Friday she was spotted at the Flyer’s game with Cindy Webster and Natalie Egenolf.
Saturday night Susie’s former partner in tan, Julie Lynn was out celebrating PR powerpuff Jen Sherlock’s birthday. OH my those gigantic meatballs.
This adorable – Michael Magnatta, Comcast and her cousin Marisa Magnatta, WMMR in a Now and Then Shot.
Speaking of power duos: Lynsie Solomon and Alison Young. Last week at the Young Friends of the Academy Ball’s Happy Hour at Capital Grille, Lynsie, the Chair of the Young Friends of the Academy Ball announced that Alison Young, would be 2018’s chair of the Young Friends. Their official title is Chair and Vice Chair, but political powerhouse David Maser, husband of Alison, deemed them Madam B and Madam VC. This shot was taken at the Garces Gala on Friday night.
Look for photos in the Philly Biz Journal today.
Philly actor Mike Lyons, who played a Senator in Season 3 of House of Cards, has been promoted to Speaker of the House in the just-released Season 4 of the popular Netflix series.   Here is his IMDB link.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall, practice, practice, practice! That’s exactly what Chris Blackman and Wendy Frame‘s son did. He was there with Friends’ central Chorus who took part in the “Total Vocal Contemporary A Cappella Music Concert” on Sunday.
Also in NYC, Lisa Jefferson, Dane Farrell and the crew from Allied THA Philly, as they attended the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Premiere at Radio City Music Hall. (1260 Ave of the Americas, New York, NY 10020)

John Waters lives in Baltimore, so when The 24th National Conference on LGBT Equality was held there this past weekend, he stopped by. Here he is with Philly’s Vince Ryan, who just wrote a compelling piece about Hillary Clinton that was picked up by the Washington Blade.

Pretty awesome
To get an invite to one of Main Line Real Estate Agent’s Michelle Leonard’s dinners is a joy. She always goes all out on her table settings. In fact she has a whole room in her house just for table ware.

People have been going gaga over a bald eagle couple that has made the National Arboretum their home is
nesting for a family this month. The eagles laid two eggs in the
past week, and now you can watch as they await their eaglets thanks to
two well-placed, live-streaming nest cams.
Fast forward a month and the babies are born and ready to be fed, see that fish dad dropped off yesterday morning.
I’ve been lucky enough to catch a few of the eaglets feedings. They are so adorable.

That Loud Noise You Heard This Morning Was The Implosion of North Philly PHA Buildings – Photos & Video

Good Saturday morning. It’s a good day for progress as the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA)  imploded the outdated high-rises to make room for low-rise townhouses.

Built in the late 1960s, 2100 people lived in the Norman Blumberg high-rises; the 18-story buildings, the Judson and Hemberger Towers. There was also 15
barrack-style buildings and another tower for senior citizens. All of them were taken down except the senior citizen building.

In it’s place PHA will build units townhouse-style buildings, and PHA will has also developed a plan to create a retail coordinate in efforts to revitalize the neighborhood.

 Fairmount in the morning
The PHA website has more information on the project HERE.

It was a great way to get rid of those pesky pigeons too

Ohhh didn’t expect dust cloud to envelope the Philadelphian
All clear. Ready for the new neighborhood. Thanks Phyllis Halpern for letting us get this shots from your balcony.
Thanks Mike Toub for videoing. That clicking noise you hear in the beginning is moi taking all the photos above with my noisy camera.

The Green Scene at Zarwin Baum’s March Madness Party on St. Patrick’s Day

Are you tired of green clad people yet. Yesterday was the rare occasion, or maybe the once in 7 years occasion that the first day of March Madness fell on St. Patrick’s Day, as I remember the last time it happened and I shot this event. Some people didn’t want their photos published as they didn’t like the color green and they only wore said outfit on this day, or so they told me, ahem. Maybe that’s why this year it wasn’t an overwhelming number of people wearing green, but there were a few standouts and i got em.
Yesterday was Zarwin Baum’s Annual March Madness Party, and for the 4th year they held it at the Crystal Tea Room.
With proceeds from the silent and live auctions, donations and food donations benefiting Philabundence.
I will have photos at Philly Mag today, but I thought I would do a whole column on green outfits to give you an idea of what you could wear next St. Patrick’s Day, or any day you want to wear green.

Throughout the day, 2500+ invited attendees will enjoy food and drink, a silent auction, a Cigar Room, and pop-a-shot basketball, all while the excitement of the NCAA’s March Madness plays out on the screens.  Guests can also look forward to this year’s beer garden, featuring tastings from Anheuser-Busch,  Bank and Bourbon, Golia Vodka, Little Lion, New Liberty Distillery/Millstone Spirits Group, Revolution Taco, Smith’s Restaurant, Stateside Vodka, and Vesper.

This year’s event boasts support from Apple Vacations, Citrin Cooperman, Del Frisco’s, Digital Benefit Advisors, DTI, ECBM, Golf Performance Institute, Help Me PCS, Iron Mountain, Jersey Man Magazine, Magna Legal Services, Robbini Bespoke, Rock Avenue Bow-Ties, Savills Studley, Signarama Center City, ToBox, West Capital Management, and Weston Fitness.

Perry Milou wearing a painting of Sophia Loren while painting Buddha. Last weekend he attended the Borgata where Sophia Loren spoke about her life, loves, and losses. At the end of the night the painting was auctioned off with proceeds going to Philabundence.

Ahhh yes reminds me of Catholic School days
The Finley’s in Fine Irish Form
The Zarwin Baum March Madness party is for clients, and friends of the firm. It always amazes me how you can have 2500 people flow through the doors, yet it’s one of the hardest party’s to crash.

That Time When Dad Came Back From The Dead to Say Good-bye on St. Patrick’s Day

Every so often I tell this story, an amazing true story that happened to my family on St. Patrick’s Day in 2005, the day we buried my father at sea, at his favorite fishing hole. I’m just going to copy and paste it here from the first time I wrote it in 2005. My nephew is now grown up so I changed his name for his protection.

…………………………….
Our family is of Irish descent, my dad was about as Irish as they come and every year as we were growing up he would throw a big party on St. Patrick’s Day. So when he died one of his requests was that we spread his ashes in the Atlantic Ocean off of the island he lived on for half the year in Florida (he followed the fish each season) on St. Patrick’s Day and have an Irish Wake. Every year on the anniversary I retell this story, it’s a story of hope, and it really happened to us and I want to share it with you…
Today marks the 4 year anniversary since we spread my dad’s ashes in the Florida Keys as per his wishes. My father died suddenly at their house in Florida May 3, 2004. I like to mark this anniversary with this story each year: (Originally written March 23, 2005)Last Thursday, on St. Patrick’s Day, we celebrated my father’s life by spreading his ashes about 2 miles off the Florida Keys (he had died unexpectedly the year before in an accident at this house). It was a beautiful ceremony. We had a St. Patrick’s Day memorial party with his friends, no grandchildren, in the afternoon at the house on the water as dad had requested.

In the evening (about 9PM) the family (including the under 15 set who were not at the house during the day) gathered on the patio to enjoy mom’s key lime pie and other desserts by CANDLELIGHT. My nephew Peter (not his real name) was the only grandchild to join us on the patio as the other kids ate inside watching TV. Peter is a little over 2.5 years old (he had only met my dad about a handful of times as his family lived in another state) He wasn’t a big talker yet, but he could usually put a word or two together, and knows sign language for the important words like Eat, Food and Drink. (This was one of the last pictures I took of dad at their house in NJ with my mom and nephew Peter)
Peter had never been to my parents house in Florida, and this particular night was the first time he was even at the house at all as we all rented houses on a different parts of the island and had dinner at one another’s house the previous nights.  As we sat around the table on the patio, talked about the next day’s plans. PETER suddenly stood up from sitting on the ground and points into the darkness towards the water where my dad’s boat use to be docked (the boat was not there, as mom sold it right after dad died,) and states “POP-POP, boat.” He says this a few times. He goes on to say Pop-pop, minnow. “Pop-pop, home” “Pop-pop hello.” “No bait to fish”.
A very emotional Mom then asked me to go get a photo of dad and give it to Peter’s dad. His dad, pointed to the photo and says to Peter, “Who is this? Peter said Pop-pop.” Peter where is pop-pop? And then Peter pointed towards where the stern (back) of the boat would be, and where my dad spent many hours tinkering.
As time went on, things got quiet and Peter went back to being quiet and staring into the darkness, my sister Tracy said to me that it was like the movie the Sixth-Sense, I leaned over to her and said “Can Peter see dead people?”. (I don’t think Peter heard me, but his mother came over and tapped me on the head and looked at me with a disapproving look.)

THEN Peter jumps up and happily states, as he was raising his arms in the air like he was going to do a cheer, “NO ONE is DEAD,” “NO ONE is DEAD,” “No Sad, No one Dead,” Don’t be scared, No one dead, Pop-pop is Home.” After about a minute or two he stopped and began playing patty cake with Pop-pop? Then he played hide and go seek, even stating BOO a few times. Then he walked to the far (and less lit) side of the patio, about 25 feet from where we were all sitting, to where the empty hammock was. He then started pushing the hammock with TWO HANDS gleefully squealing “WHEEEEEE WHEEEEE ISNT THIS FUN….” Finally running back to where we were sitting stunned, Peter stated one last time “NO ONE DEAD, DON’T BE SAD” “Pop-pop HOME”

At this point Peter went on to play a game of stepping on someones toes, and then someone trying to step on his toes. This was a sight to see as he was clearly communicating and playing with someone (Pop-Pop?) as he was squealing in laughter and looking up. After a bit, as we were all sniffling and in a bit of shock, Peter’s frazzled dad said it was late, and time to go, at that point the usually mild manner boy just burst out crying and actually threw himself on the ground backwards (not violently though). As his dad picked him up, Peter turned 180 degrees towards the water, where the stern of the boat would have been, where my dad spent so many hours, and said bye pop-pop, bye as he blew Pop-pop a kiss good-bye
We all know how blessed we are to have had this amazing experience. And for months following this incident, Peter would occasionally see Pop-pop and announce it to his mom. Eventually they stopped; once in awhile when I see Peter I ask him if he has seen Pop-pop, and his response is a perplexed look, he has no idea what I am talking about, but we had that moment. My fear of death and dying was put to rest after this, I wish I could say it was my faith that created this change, but it was this moment.
My Mike wasn’t on this trip with me, and being Jewish/Agnostic he was skeptical of my story, until he asked each my sisters separately and our stories were nearly identical. He’s still agnostic, but believes that we saw Peter chat with dad on St. Patrick’s Day 2005
.
