Yogurino Closes and is Quickly Replaced By Another Popular Yogurt Eatery

Last week I wrote about Yorgorino at
12th and Walnut Streets closing. “I guess it just didn’t catch on because
of all the competition from surrounding yogurt and fake yo stores. They
still have an outlet at 20th and Locusts, and will be opening at 32nd
and Chestnut soon.”

UPDATE: 11/7/13 – I HEAR THE IGLOO DESSERT IS MOVING IN. They have a spot in Greys Ferry too; Update Update: owner Zac Parker tells me that “It will be very similar to the first location with a few additions and
upgrades.  There will be more seating than the Yogorino space and there
will be outdoor seating too.  We hope to have a soft opening in late
January with a grand opening on March 1st.”
PS The yogurt store at 13th and Chestnut closed on Monday.  Now it looks like the competition is just between Scoop deVille and Sweetending in the Gayborhood/Midtown Village Area, oh and Walgreens.

The final nail in Joan Shepp’s Walnut St store Coffin

For years folks have spent a good amount of time peering into the windows at 1616 Walnut Street to check out the fantastic windows

of Joan Shepp (the dame of Walnut Street retail.)
This was one of the last windows this past summer, fabulous paper dresses, before Joan Shepp made her move to

The Shops of Liberty Place.

Joan Shepp can now be found around the corner at the Shops of Liberty Place
(I like this sign that is on her old shop window.)

What’s taking over the space at 1616 Walnut Street?
not another fabulous store like
************
(I took the above shot last nite from inside the old Joan Shepp space, as the owners and investors of ICON1616 Apartments
gathered for dinner to celebrate several of the floors being finished and the two largest retail spaces being filled.)

Theory – WHICH IS OPEN NOW. Moving into the old Joan Shepp space is the

Santander bank, formerly known as
Sovereign Bank, but earlier this year they were taken over by the Spanish bank Santander. Over the past few months they’ve been rolling out the new name.

You can find other
Santander banks at 12th & Market, Penn Center, 19th and Market and the above sign I took yesterday at Penn Center. 15th and market Streets. ICON1616 Apartments will start taking reservations November 15, and plan to open March 2014.

SEE IT: NO RESERVATIONS AT THE ADRIENNE THEATER 11/26 – 12/15

THE WORST-CASE SCENARIO SURVIVAL HANDBOOK AUTHOR PRESENTS WORLD PREMIERE OF HIS FIRST STAGE COMEDY NO RESERVATIONS AT THE ADRIENNE THEATER

Written by Josh Piven, Directed by Allison HeishmanNovember 26 -December 15, 2013, Opening Night November 29
Skybox @ The Adrienne Theater
Philadelphia, PA – New York Times best-selling
humorist Josh Piven gives theater audiences a best-case scenario this
holiday season with the World Premiere farce No Reservations.
Piven trades the volcanoes, quicksand, and alligator wrestling for
holiday survival among the mistletoe, scrapple, and paparazzi.  Penned
by the author of The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook and directed by Allison Heishman, the
production runs November 26 through December 15, 2013 at Skybox @The
Adrienne Theater.  The ensemble cast of Philadelphia favorites features
Jared Michael Delaney, Wendy Staton, Brian McCann, Mary Beth Shrader,
Colleen Corcoran and Brandon Pierce. Tickets are available now for $18 to $25 at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/449685.
No Reservations is
a thoroughly modern retelling of the Nativity, a classic tale
re-imagined for our times: iPhones, TMZ, the Twitterverse, and an
unforgettable “reality” show featuring a very timely birth.  This
highly original madcap holiday comedy satirizes our celebrity-obsessed,
media-saturated culture, and asks what the age-old story of Christmas
might look like today.
Meet Mr. and Mrs. Harris, the
cash-strapped innkeepers of The Speckled Partridge. They have cleared
their reservation books for a quiet Christmas. But when two young
women—one of them very famous, and very pregnant—appear through a
snowstorm, desperate for a place to stay, the relaxing holiday quickly
begins to unravel. In short order the innkeepers are juggling a band of
sarcastic carolers; a self-absorbed reporter; a fundamentalist
carpenter; a washed-out Idol winner, and a big-shot TV producer—along
with their own pseudo-feminist daughter—all fighting off a blizzard to
take advantage of an innocent single mother on her way to Bethlehem. But
how innocent is she, really?
“We’ve developed such a fascination
with the cult of celebrity, and there’s now a virtual imperative to put
our entire lives online,” Piven says, “I thought it would be fun to
re-imagine such a traditional story using modern themes: not only social
media but also the housing crisis, reality television, and same sex
marriage. If the Nativity is a story for all time, then No Reservations is definitely a story for our times.”
No Reservations runs
November 26 through December 15, with a preview night on Tuesday,
November 26 and opening night on Friday, November 29, 2013. Tickets are
$18 to $25 and are available online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/449685. Performances take place at The Skybox @ The Adrienne Theater, 2030 Sansom Street, 3rd Floor, in Center City, Philadelphia.  For more information, call 267-225-7175, follow @no_reservations on Twitter and like No Reservations The Play on Facebook.
CAST HIGHLIGHTSThe all-star cast of No Reservations includes
an eclectic mix of Philadelphia actors known for their comedy and
heart: Jared Michael Delaney and Wendy Staton as Mr. and Mrs. Harris,
the “harried” innkeepers of the Speckled Partridge, and Mary Beth
Shrader and Colleen Corcoran and Martha and Marie, the pregnant couple
looking for a room. Brian McCann, Brandon Pierce, Drew Carroll are
featured, as is local GANG front woman Amanda Damron in a series of
comedic and musical roles. The cast is well known in
the Philadelphia area having appeared in myriad productions at such
companies as the Arden, Philadelphia Theatre Co, Lantern Theatre,
Theatre Exile, Azuka Theatre, Inis Nua, 1812 Productions, New City Stage
Co, Swim Pony, Delaware Shakespeare Festival, and Shakespeare
in Clark Park.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Josh Piven is the author or co-author of more than twenty non-fiction and humor books, including the worldwide best-selling The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook series (Chronicle Books),  As Luck Would Have It, and The Escape ArtistsNo Reservations is
his first stage comedy. He often writes about himself in the third
person. Older than twenty but younger than seventy-five, Piven is
perhaps best known for his famously tongue-in-cheek worst-case books,
books that offer readers real-world (though often hilarious) advice on
surviving worst-case situations that they might—but hopefully
won’t—encounter: everything from “how to fend off a shark” and “how to
wrestle and alligator” to “how to determine if your date is an axe
murderer.” Merchandise based on the series includes desktop calendars,
note cards, holiday cards, board and video games, and an iPhone app. Two
television series based on the books have been produced (and
canceled).  An expert on a broad range of survival topics, Piven has
appeared on The Today Show20/20, and ABC World News,
as well as on local news broadcasts in virtually every major media
market in North America, and many foreign countries. He is now embarking
on his most harrowing survival challenge yet: live theater.  Check back
for the obituary…

getcaughtphilly.com.

 A few
days ago I stopped into Swarovski on Walnut Street, and caught HOT
107.9 DJ and Philly 360 Ambassador Laiya St.Clair getting blinged out.

I love
her expression when she saw herself in this bolster necklace
from Atelier Swarovski by Christopher Kane.

 Laiya is
back in Philly after spending some time on-air down in D.C. It’s nice to have
her back home and swap notes on celebrities and musicians – she knows
EVERYONE!
Laiya was
decked out in a Nicole Haddad of Lobo Mau original
black jumpsuit and reversible black and white jacket, which played
off great in Swarovski’s gold accessories.

Welcome
home Laiya, keep sparkling gurrl.

Kelly Straka of Lux-Living sets the stage for The Argyle and celebrates new series on Design Network

Late last month I attended a party to introduce the brand new, fully furnished condos at The Argyle and to celebrate Lux-Living‘s new series on The Design Network which features a behind the scenes look at their work with professional athletes and real estate developers
Carmel Developments
Inc. of Philadelphia, PA

Kelly Straka, (hello Kelly) founder of Lux-Living, featured the building on her new show The Lux
Life.

The launch party had over 150 guests, including real estate
agents, prospective buyers, and other developers.

Kelly, Amit Azoulay
(r) of President of Carmel Developments Inc. of Philadelphia, PA, and Ben Henry of 820 Films
were in house filming another episode for the series and capturing some
of the fun during the event.  The event had a chef whipping up hor
dourves, a dj, bartenders, and beautiful condos open for guests to
preview and enjoy the night on the roof deck.

Harriet Lessy and Stephen Pollock
Andres Vielma, Rana Adams, and Kristin Stever

Each of the penthouse units had expansive outdoor space with city views.

The Argyle is 12 unit, new construction condo building near Broad and
Spring Garden (1241 Buttonwood).  The 2 bedroom units offer 1 car
parking, modern amenities, and are being offered fully furnished.  The

Home staging, the
art of making your home look neat, stylish and inviting
to a potential home buyer, is the essential first step in selling
your home. If your staging is successful you will leave a lasting
impression on the home buyers and they will feel they can

make your place a home.

FRESHII HAS LEFT THE BUILDING & The Mexican Post is Closed

I was walking by last night and they were packing up on their last day.

Freshii was all about quick, healthy food and opened in 2011 to much fanfare.

And although they always seemed busy at lunchtime, they were kinda dead in the evening.

I liked it when it first opened, but stopped going cause my clothes always smelled of fried fresh food, plus it really was anything but fast food. I was surprised they lasted this long. No word for their future cause I was in a hurry to shoot the Stratus Lounge Prom Party. Michael Klein reports that another restaurant near City Hall closed, the Mexican Post. I did like that place, but never really visited cause I always forgot where it was located, hidden over in the bushes across from the MSB Building. Wish there was one in Center City proper.
