POTITO’S BAKERY IS OPENING ANOTHER SPOT, THIS TIME IN

Potito’s Bakery South Philly – Italian American Pastries

Who created my birthday cake this past July

is opening a new location in Fairmount at 549 20th Street (they currently have one at in South Philly Potito’s Bakery, at 1614 Ritner St., and in Center City at Walnut and Juniper.) They tell me they’ll be opened by the middle of the month. Delicious, and much needed as I live in this neighborhood and I can’t think of one bakery nearby.

THE DOPEST LOOKING FANS AT MADE IN AMERICA 2013

What do you wear when it’s nearly 90 F out, and humid as hell?
I wonder how long that face lasted?

Those boots must have been heavy 7 hrs later
 Can we retire Twerking now?
 Orange is still in
Wonder Woman has never gone out
Lots of folks were wearing their flag. I love how they got into the Made In America Spirit.
An updated version of the ’60s headband
Another use for a police car

A lot of folks I talked got a two day pass to the Festival. They stayed in our hotels, or with family nearby.

Wow, just wow
Playing a Molly game

WOW in a good way
I guess we know who the king is in their castle
I love photographing people who do selfies

Hi, I would like a pot leaf tattooed to my chest please

Notice how the ground is very clean, no trash at all. Really amazing

Later today my Philly Mag column should go live and I’ll link it tomorrow, cause I’m going out now. Hope you caught my Fox 29 and B101 coverage. Tomorrow I’ll chat a little more about the layout of the Festival and add more celeb photos so they don’t clash with Philly Mag column. Thanks much. Chat soon. HughE

Budweiser Clydesdales Visit Philadelphia – Fairmount PLUS MADE IN AMERICA TICKET GIVEAWAY Pluse Made in America Line Up 2013

All week the Budweiser Clydesdales have been in Philadelphia to kick off the 2nd Annual Budweiser Made in America Festival which begins tomorrow at 2pm along the Parkway.

 Lots of folks turned out
The Budweiser Clydesdales stopped at various bars and restaurants that serve Bud.
Here they are as they passed the Easter State Penitentiary.
Which cleverly created an “explosion” and the break out of zombies about a minute after the horses passed by. I was completely taken by surprise trampling bystanders.

Terror Behind the Walls kicks off on September 20
I’ve gone several times in the past years, and it’s really worth it, scary and memorable. Don’t eat before you go.

The Clydesdales made their way back down Fairmount stopping at London Grill

 Bishop’s Collar
and Little Pete’s

 I like their pony tails

The Last Photo Taken of Chuck Peruto and Julia Law

I feel what’s missing in these latest stories of the tragedy that happened with Chuck Peruto and Julia Law is a photo of them together. I photographed them during a chance meeting a week or so earlier as they passed a party I was photographing near Rittenhouse Square. They were going out with another couple to a show nearby. It’s never been published til now. They were the picture of happiness. It’s so sad to read of her tragic death again, and now a back story that doesn’t paint how beautiful she and lively she was.

Here’s a link to the Philly Mag story which seems to be the talk of the town. (please don’t take this photo, thank you)

RANDOM SHOTS OF MY CHARLOTTE, PIGEON FORGE AND NASHVILLE VACATION (with Ghost sightings & Erin Como, Nash, Marisa Magnatta, Mom & Tracy)

These photos were uploaded in a crazy fashion

 A Nashville Street

 Erin Como and I

Cousins Nash and Jim in Nashville near their home with cousin Emy

Marissa and Mike after lunch, on a Nashville street. Marisa happened to be in town at the same time for a bacherlorette party

The ATT building in Nashville, is nicknamed “Batman”

The one thing on my bucket list was to see where Donna Summer was buried. She was the very first album I bought as a kid.

I was all set to see her at the Latin Casino with a family friend, but then my mom heard that moaning song and forbade me. I was 12 at the time – LOL

Brentwood, near Tim McGraw’s estate outside Nashville
 Nashville
Nashville. It was hard to find anyone in Nashville with a Southern Accent. It was sad for me.

A view from the visitor’s station in the Smokies
I think this was an Elk in the Smokies
On our way to Charlotte to visit my family, Mike and I randomly stayed in the town of Lexington Va. I came across the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetary and there in the center was his plot
In the 2nd photo I took there was an “orb” about his plot. In the 3rd photo it was gone. So I shot it from another angle.
When I shot it from the side, there was the Orb again, see in the upper right corner. If it were a spec on my lens it would still have been closer to the statue. Plus My flash was the only light in the cemetery, so it wasn’t a reflection. Was it the ghost of Stonewall Jackson?

The city of Charlotte
The ghost of Jim and Tammy Baker. This once was Heritage USA, their resort and amusement park. It’s finally being torn down and houses are popping up all around it. (It’s about 15 minutes from Charlotte.)
The Smokie’s so beautiful

Mom with grandchildren Timmy and Ela, outside mom’s new home near Charlotte

Which bag is Mike’s? Which bag is Hughe’s?

Gatlinburg, TN
Pigeon Forge, TN
Is a lot like Wildwood. Lots of things to do, amusement parks. Very cheap hotels, like $59 a night.
We went to a dinner theater where they had loggers competing against each other.
 It was interesting.
We didn’t go, but I saw the sign
The Wax Museum

You commit the crime, they have a newspaper with your mugshot
The Titanic Museum. Pretty cool. Took me three hours to go through. They have the sets from the movie in there.
The view from our hotel. Mike loved going outside and feeding the ducks
Years ago when we were in Las Vegas he wanted to try the indoor skydiving, but it was out of commission. He finally took it off his bucket list as they have one in Pigeon Forge. We need one in Philly.

Diner en Blanc, People, Table Settings, Insider Info & Media Blitz with Videos & Photos & My Media Links

By now you should all be familiar with Diner en Blanc,  no doubt after the amazing media blitz that happened last week especially on Friday. With 2500 confirmed people for the pop-up dinner party, Diner en Blanc engaged 4 photographers to cover the event as photojournalists.

We were all given different assignments. Since I photograph people for a living, that was my focus. I love what I do: Get people, stories and for the most part get names so that the organization could send out the 30 – 50 shots Diner en Blanc requested from me to send to them for distribution. Plus I took photos for my two media outlets.  Hopefully you’ll find yours in one of my outlets, if not at some point I will be putting some of the other 400 shots on my FB page Philly ChitChat or sending them to Diner en Blanc for their use.

I was assigned the meeting place at 5th and Market.
It was here that I said “Kory Aversa, Aversa PR, please don’t tweet that photo, I want to include it in my column and it will be a fun surprise.” {I say that to him a lot, as well as others including poor Kate Marly’s who I snapped at at the end of the night when she shot something I had just shot.}

Crazy dedications to get to the location. Throughout the night I would ask people was it worth it, not one person said no. Many said they’d do it again next year.

Love this gal in the subway
whew up two flights
This year’s secret location: The JFK Blvd Bridge near 30th Street Station, Super choice, dining with views of the Schuylkill River, the City Skyline, and 30th Street Station. (Oh and by the way, a stone’s throw away from where Wegman’s is thinking of setting up shop in 2015)

With the waving of the napkins, it signals the start of dinner.

Nice spread for the press. Over 55 bloggers and press people were invited to attend the event, most having done pre-press and a few doing follow up stories. I think that Aversa PR has tapped into something. I know we’re friends, but I have never seen as much coverage for an event, and so much afterwards too. My Philly.com column went up at 3PM and immediately shot to #1 most popular story by 5PM. (The comments can be son interesting too.)

Dan Reinherz and Hadas Kuznits
Thanks to Matthew Stevens & Lauren Jasinski for this shot. An engagement occurred during the sparkler portion and I missed the whole thing (although the engagement shot was so fun, see link at bottom). So sad. I love the song they play too.

I did get this though, if anyone can tell me how to unattach the videos I would love it. It drives me crazy they run into each other.

Maciej Ciezki and Kasia Hopek
I love how she kept her sunglasses on all night
So many people I talked to Thursday night told me how they made friends at last years event, and this year they went with them. Others told me of the fun they were having with the new friends they met this year. With this many people, and no incidences occurred, there’s something magical going on.
The table settings were divine
Smores
The Metro Newspaper Gang

It was really amazing what people brought to their table to make it that much more special

These Main Line girls returned for a 2nd year
A group of friends I chatted with came all the way from Baltimore, MD

Absolutely one of my favorite photos of the night. “Don’t Stop Believing.” or some song like that.

Everyone was responsible for removing their own trash too ie see see the trash bag she’s carrying as they leave the event.

These folks were leaving and gave a shout out that they’d be back again next year.

The end – After the event, the Kory Aversa, PR machine continued full force fielding calls from media who wanted info for the next day, I got home and started separating out which photos would go where, preparing my Philly.com (2hrs, sorry no names this week) then my PhillyMag post (took about 3hrs). There were no overlap photos in any of the outlets. That’s the way it should be done. (OK see if you can pick out the kinda close overlap of Tony Luke & Jennifer Schloeder, there’s a tiny difference in the shot. Sorry for those peeps who I promised I would run and didn’t. I realized when I got home it was too difficult to follow my notes, and I just did visuals on my photos and chose that way. Next time remind me that I promised to run you and I didn’t)
Here are some of the places my photos went to:
G Philly
Philly Mag (my twice weekly column – Fun stories)
Philly.com Out and About (my weekly column – fun photos)
PhillyMag Weddings There Was a Proposal at Philly’s Dîner En Blanc Last Night
Phila Biz Journal ‘Diner en Blanc‘ event attracts 2500 (photo gallery)

UPDATE: JOAN SHEPP STAYS ON WALNUT STREET, GETS THE WINDOWS SHE DESIRED, AND IS A TRAILBLAZER ONCE AGAIN

This entry is on hold; I’ve spoken to several sources involved and
although this is contender, and definitely a dream come true spot for them, no agreements or
commitments have been signed at any locations. I apologize for jumping
the gun, but I am excited how everyone is very excited to
see where Joan Shepp will finally land ( no one more than me), and I
really hope it’s here with these spectacular windows.

I’ve been tweeting and teasing you all year, and now intensely for two weeks on where Joan Shepp would be moving, and hinting on where she’d go. They asked me to hold the story, the full story and I did, but Metro/GMA reporter Laura Goldman kinda tweeted where Shepp was going to on Wednesday, and well now I feel it’s ok to reveal the entire story.

21 Aug

women’s retailer Joan Shepp is moving 2 the Wells Fargo Building on Broad St at the end of Sept Expect big opening bash in Oct
Technically she is moving to the Wells’ Fargo building and the address will be Broad Street, Broad and Walnut, which is even more impressive; but she’s actually moving to the backside of the building, still on the desireable Walnut Street, the corner with the big windows.
Remember how I hinted about Trading Places in my tweets August 8 and the post on August 13?

Well it’s the Witherspoon Building, which was where Duke and Duke was located in the movie Trading Places. Duke brothers Randolph (Ralph Bellamy) and Mortimer (Don Ameche) own Duke & Duke, a successful commodities brokerage in Philadelphia, in the movie Trading Places. In the movie Kristin Holby played Penelope Witherspoon who was Dan Ackroyd’s love interest. (Several of you did solve the riddle in your comments which I didn’t publish, including Corie Moscow cause she’s a big movie fan, and of course the windows there are huge.)
I also said it was at a “sweet” spot. Well it’s across from Dunkin Donuts, Potito’s Bakery, Scoop de Ville and my favorite spot “Nuts To You”. Then I tweeted if Joan Shepp traveled across Broad Street, but stayed on Walnut St could she be considered Rittenhouse Row like McCormick & Schmidts, Capital Grille and Walgreens.
Congratulations Joan Shepp and a job well done, those windows are fabulous!!
