Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co. (112 S. 18th St.) keep rolling in, so it’s not especially surprising that they changed their minds from opening a noodle restaurant in the old Liquid Hair Studios, above the bar, and instead just expanded the bar upwards into the space.
Word on the street is the opening is within a few weeks.
I stopped by Tuesday and found the place wrapped tight, but there was a little itty bitty rip in the paper near the door, but I was blinded by the light fixture that was shining brightly inside. Can’t wait to see the place.

The Kimpton’s Monaco Hotel is just about to make it’s debut. The property at 433 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA. will have several restaurants “The Stratus” and the “Red Owl” and
Hotel Palomar’s Square 1682 Executive Chef Guillermo Tellez will wear the chef’s whites at Red Owl as well as oversee the kitchen at Square 1682. At about the same time as the opening of the Monaco restaurants downtown Square 1682 will start to undergo a drastic renovation all the while the restaurant will remain open, so no employees will be effected.
Although the restaurant is a popular spot for lunch & dinner and has a very happy hour, there’s something missing, a steady stream of people, despite having rave reviews for the food, and a great PR team. It’s a shame especially since it’s has the one thing most hotel restaurants want, an exterior door. I took a random poll of people over the past week or so since I was tipped off, to find out what people would like to see change at Square 1682. #1 – Of the people who didn’t know what Square 1682 was, I asked them what cues would help them realize it was a restaurant. They said a sign that said restaurant. A menu on both windows and maybe awnings with the name in it over the windows. Several people didn’t like the facade. I hear they’re going to change it so that’s good.
While the downstairs is being worked on, the upstairs dining area will be opened for business. Then when that is done, the opposite will happen. I loved the look of the downstairs, but when I asked people what they would like to see happen, everyone mentioned regular size furniture and real tables, especially for business meetings while eating lunch.
Everyone had a complaint about the bar. It’s too large, their fannies didn’t fit on the small stools and it should be set back from the doorway. I hear they’re not moving it, but I think they should think about it. Most people said that when it’s too clogged at the front, they don’t even want to bother to see if there’s a table on the other side in the seating area, I concur.
The upstairs is also going to be renovated. I always liked it, but I guess they want it to match the downstairs. OK a few people didn’t like the cushions on the chair as they slid off, and occassionally the air escaping would make an embarrassing noise.
I hear it’s going to be very modern, with much lighter colors. I’m excited to see the results, and to see a restaurant that does well, do even more fabulous. I hope they move the bar back a tad away from the bar. Wouldn’t it be cute with a table or two in the front window near the door? The renovations begin in November.

Sunday I headed out to Glen Mills, PA to enjoy Joseph Anthony’s Salon 3rd Annual Style Wars benefiting “Adopt A Pig”.
Style Wars is an unique event where the employees ie stylists from Joseph Anthony’s compete with each other to see who is most talented styling their team ie models decked out in gorgeous fall 2012 clothing provided by Saks Fifth Avenue.
It’s also a fundraiser for Adopt a Pig – Adopt a Pig is a program designed to help children and their families
cope as they face their greatest challenge, fighting cancer. Proceeds

The Eagles Cheerleaders were on hand and looking cheery, this was before the big loss. Cheryl, Amanda Grace, Cat and Claudette
Stephenie Kendrick and Lisa Gaudio. Stephenie told me that Kyle was home have daddy daughter time with their baby, who is over a year old already. Lisa Gaudio’s dad, Bob Gaudio’s Broadway show “Jersey Boys” was just certified as the 18th longest playing Broadway show in NYC on Saturday.
These two ladies, Mary and Cassandra Booth were very happy when I placed them in my 2nd row row seat along with my nearly date of the days Sheena Parveen, who stayed at home to watch the Eagles game. I think Sheena the Florida native is becoming a home town girl.
Newly engaged Irina Libman and Rich Goldberg, Safian & Rudolph Jewelers. Rich popped the question while they were in Cabo. Safian & Rudolph Jewelers also provided the jewlery that Jenn Frederick was wearing which included a gorgeous saffire necklace worth $11,500; a $40,000 tennis bracelet that I know Jenn loves, I’m looking at you Steve Frederick,
and a $7,500 ring with 3.78 carats of sapphires and 1.24 diamonds.
The audience was fashionably dressed and excited to be there. Can you see Donna Coghlan and Charlie Pasquale?
Kellie Gagliotti Anthony and Joseph Anthony Jr in the front row, with Joseph Anthony Sr and his lovely wife Kim, and on crutches Jennaphr Frederick of Fox 29’s Good Day Philadelphia. Jenn just returned to work after having knee surgery August 30th. She injured herself while performing a stunt with an Olympic gold medalist in South Jersey, wait it will come to me. Nope all I can recall is the pop of her knee, ugh.

Team 2 after their fashion show
Hmm bare naked chested guy in the back, odd
This is team 3’s models styled. I probably should have shot it from the front of the room, but I was going for the audience reactions. Next year maybe I’ll stand there. This year the Style judges were giving their unvarnished opinions about each of the team’s styling. It was a refreshing approach.
Dallas Shaw, a fashion illustrator for brands like, CHANEL, DKNY and Kate Spade; Jen Utley, mommy, married to Chase, and co-founder of The Utley Foundation, and the no holds bar Jimmy Contreras, who’s motto is “The Truth Hurts”, were judges at the Style Wars. At one point the judges were in agreement That Team 3’s fall inspired outfits were just spotted on the runway in NYFW the week before, when Contreras pipped up and said “ladies I don’t know what fashion show you were watching, but those clothes were not at NYFW as they were doing Spring 2013.” – Thursday Chase Utley and his wife Jennifer are dedicating the 2nd annual Be Kind to Animals mural with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts program at its permanent location, McVeigh
Recreation Center.
Judges Dee DeLuca-Mattos and Jen Abrams
Spotted in the crowd Matthew Vlahos, Vlahos Pr. They’ve been super busy gearing up for the Red Owl restaurant opening at the Monaco Hotel at 5th and Chestnut Streets, plus this week he’s helping out with the Anne Klein opening on Walnut St.

Congratulations to Maria Papadakis for winning an Emmy on Saturday night. Also Justin Pizzi and his photographer Brad Berner. You might recall the duo won their first Emmy in 2010 in a documentary I was involved in. (Photo: Felicia Perretti)
Not much news about the Cory Montieth/David Morse movie, McCanick, Ive been busy busy with the social calendar of events and well this production is fairly low key. A friend did tweet to me on Saturday that they added a new role starring one of my buds favorite actors – Maura Tierney.
You may recall Tierney from the television medical drama ER. Earlier last week I got a report they were at Franklin Institute shooting. Wednesday they filmed a few scenes inside the Parker Hotel at 13th and Spruce. Sounds like a horror film to me.
Actor Kevin Daniels tweeted the only known photo of Cory Monteith in Philly, about a week ago. It seems the Glee actor has left the City and is now back on the set of Glee, filming final scenes with his real life girlfriend Lea Michelle. Aww Finn where you going?
The movie Backwards, which filmed here all last summer, with Sarah Megan Thomas (hat) and James Van Der Beek opened to rave reviews last Friday in a few select cities including Philadelphia. It’s fun to read all the FB pages of the local actors that have caught a glimpse of themselves or their friends. Maybe you’ll see me in the scene filmed on the Schuylkill River, I’m there on camera for a split second I hear. Speaking of filming on the Schuylkill River, Do No Harm will be shooting all day near Boat House Row. It’s gonna be a beautiful day for a walk in the park, and maybe you’ll see a celebrity. (Did you see my coverage of the filming of Do No Harm on Friday, it’s here.)
I found that photo that DeSean Jackson tweeted about his winning meal at Del Frisco’s last week. I guess he won’t be going there tonight.
A shot of “Open Air” from Boat House Row Saturday Night. Happy Birthday Padraic Jacob Maroney!
Check out PhillyMag.com today for my column on the Rittenhouse Row Fashion Show Party .
Ori Feibush, a real estate developer, has turned a trash-strewn
city-owned lot — vacant for roughly 30 years — into a welcoming spot for
customers of his month-old corner cafe, where they can enjoy their
fair-trade organic java and pastries from local bakeries (WaPo). But the City of Philadelphia wants him to return it to the mess it used to be and I guess today at 4PM we’re going to hear why.
Last night was a busy busy busy night, between the PhillyStyle Mag party, The FBH Kick Off Party, the “Open Air Debut” and a big scene being filmed at the Franklin Institute for the TV show “Do Not Harm”. Let’s briefly check in with a few of the events I went to starting with the Rittenhouse Row Fall Fashion Show.
It was a smashing success. I was pleasantly surprised that the crowd was plentiful, and fashionable considering all the other events in town that night, but the Rittenhouse Row events have a stellar reputation of putting on a good party with lots of fun people. Check out Jesse Rendell strutting his stuff on the “runway” in Duke & Winston. Check out my column in Philly Mag Online on Monday for who else was there, what were they wearing and favorite moments of the night.
I was feeling a little under the weather last night, so I headed home instead of going to any of the other events (today I feel better after piling on the vitamin C. I have no time to get sick, but for the next week or so it’s air kisses for me or Howie Mandell fist bump hellos.) I found out on Tuesday that the TV show “Do Not Harm” was going to film a big black tie soiree, so that evening I started to do a reconnaissance checking out large, grand halls on where they could possibly hold such an event with 300 extras. The Franklin Institute had signs up, but I did think maybe the Kimmel Center or event the Please Touch Museum. When I realized it was the Franklin Institute I thought maybe because of the “Open Air” light show they choose that place.
I realized I was wrong. That was the most insane part about picking the Franklin Institute, an additional 1000 people wanting to watch the scene being shot, and you know what
no problems. In fact the producers thanked the crowd for letting them film in their City, and how much they’re enjoying themselves. He was glad we were able to watch what it takes to make the TC show, and hoped we would all tune into the mid-season show, which starts after football season in January. No flash photography, and none at all during the shooting of the scene, which had
Steven Pasquale (in tux) running down the Franklin Institute stairs screaming after “Olivia” played by Ruta Gedmintas as she crosses the street and enters her waiting limo.
She looks like she has flats on. I wonder if that changes in the TV show and they digitally put stilettos on her.
This is the duo walking back up the stairs to do the scene again. I completely forgot to bring my zoom lens so we must do with these long shots. After shooting this scene for an hour or so, they shot interiors with the 300 extras; then it was back to work today in the hospital (ie the School Board Building on Broad Street, where they spend most of their time filming.)
I did get to see “Open Air”. The Association for Public Art‘s major world-premiere project this fall, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer‘s Open Air,
debuted last night on Philly’s Ben Franklin Parkway; thousands were in
attendance to see performances and presentations from the artist, Mayor Michael Nutter, human beatbox Rahzel, extreme vocalist David Moss and more, as the project went live and the full set of 24 searchlights lit up the night sky.
The project continues through October 14, with local community groups kicking off each evening; in addition, Rafael will talk about Open Air at select special events throughout the project’s run, including Sept. 22 at the Philadelphia Museum of Artand Oct. 2 at the Franklin Institute‘s “Planetarium on the Parkway.” – It was much more quiet than I thought. I’d like to see it on a cloudy day, also from a distance like the Camden Waterfront, 42Expressway right as you hit the crest in the road where Philly comes into sight and from Cooper River Park.

Tuesday was a big day for Michael Vick and his newly created “Team Vick Foundation”. First he attended the dedication of a rundown football field in Philadelphia’s Hunting Park section, where he contributed $200,000 as part of a multi-million
dollar project, led by the city’s Fairmount Park Conservancy, to
transform Hunting Park, a blighted crime haven, into a safe, positive place to play, Vick told me. The new field will be called Team Vick Football Field. Afterwards he headed over toaloft hotel at the Philadelphia Airport to celebrate with fans.
Who started to arrive hours earlier for the festive all day long party.
There was delicious food by Sarcone’s Deli, The Jughandle Inn and The Fresh Works to name a few
Q102 and Power 99 Hosted a “Battle of the Bands”
There were lots and lots of fans eager to meet their hometown sports hero
Michael Vick, here with Nina Timani, Director of Sales and Marketing, aloft PHL. I have to hand it to Timani, the first charity fundraiser for the Team Vick Foundation could have been held anywhere, but Vick and she became fast friends 3 years ago when he first came to Philly. He stayed at aloft while negotiating his contract and the rest is history. (You recall I shot the first photo of him when he was in town at that time too.) This is the 3rd large Eagles player charity event that aloft has hosted, all arranged by Timani; first was DeSean Jackson in 2010, then last year Vince Young and now this year Michael Vick.
The new Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Trent Edwards can be seen in the background, as Vick signs for a fan.

Kathryn Ott Lovell (center), executive director of the conservancy, heard Vick speak last year to a high school audience. “I was completely blown away by this guy,” she said. “Hunting Park is

There was a table at the event with Michael Vick signed memorabilia. $200 for a jersey. i thought that was pretty good and picked up one for my charity auction. So new is Team Vick foundation, the website is just being perfected and soon you will be able to buy memorabilia from the site yourself.

Kijafa Vick and Mike’s mom, Brenda Vick. Kijafa, wearing her PNK Elephant jewelery, left in the middle of the day to go pick up the kids from school and brought them back. They were cute and adorable, but they’re kids so I didn’t take their photos.
Brenda Vick drove up from Virgina with her kids Courtney Vick, and Christine Vick, and nephew Terrance Vick.
And the battle of the bands begin, first in the tent adjacent to aloft, but then that torrential storm blew in and quick thinking and a little bit of organization brought the whole outfit inside.
Beautiful songstress Angela Dipersia killed it with Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” She later went on to win the whole competition which included a weekend of free recording time at Sigma Sound Studios, and a weekend stay at aloft hotel. Angela manager Wanda Mora/Mora Management tells me that Angela will be performing tomorrow at the 2012 PhiladelphiaHero Thrill Show ( THE
MISSION OF THE HERO THRILL SHOW IS TO RAISE MONEY TO PAY FOR THE
COLLEGE TUITION FOR CHILDREN OF PHILADELPHIA POLICE OFFICERS AND/OR
FIREFIGHTERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY.)
The whole gang who participated in the Q102 and Power 99 “Battle of the Bands”, hosted by Andre The Giant (with the Vick 7 on) and Grouchy Greg Watkins (making the moves down front). 2nd place winner with 12hrs of Signma Sound Studio time, and a weekend stay at aloft hotel, was the cool Dinosaur Jr/Greg Allman inspired “Still Moon”, which performed last. After calculating the scores all day it’s nice to know that if you perform last you can still be a contender. What an epic day at aloft. The party started at 2PM and I rolled out of there about 8:30PM, fun times. Can’t wait to see what Nina Tiami has in store for us next year.
Team Vick – Michael Vick announces his first major donation from his foundation Team Vick. The $200,000 donation will help revitalize a Hunting Park Recreation field says Kathryn Ott Lovell, Executive Director, The Fairmount Park Conservancy. Team Vick field joins the Ryan Howard Baseball Field, which is in the same park. Sounds like a win win.
