Spotted: Idris Elba – How did I get that Photo Plus Queer Eye Guys Filming in Town

How many of us are saying to ourselves “Can you believe it’s August 11 already!” It’s a beautiful day get out and enjoy it, but first let’s read a little fun Philly Gossip…

The shot on the right is now one of the favorite shots I’ve taken in my 10 year career of shooting celebrities. It was a hard shoot as Idris has a Cowboy hat on and it cast a shadow on his face most of the time, so often the horse trainer who was wearing pink, often seems washed out.. How did this photo happen. A reader tipped me off where they were filming, but the only time I had to go was 2 hrs on the last day of filming at Fletcher Street field, and I got lucky. When I arrived they were sitting on the horses and I was resigned to getting photos of the back of them, worthy of a PhillyChitChat blog post. They were fairly far across the field and my camera kept focusing on my closed car window, as I sat in my hot car as I didn’t want the vibration from the car to affect the shots. I realized I’d have to open the window, and when I did the neighbors nearby kept coming up to my car to chat. I was polite, answered their questions, then asked them to move away from my car as to not draw attention. On some shoots I am standing on the sidewalk, but I really wanted a natural, candid shot. After rehearsing the scene for Concrete Cowboy, which was chatting on the horse, walking a few steps forward, then the horse would have to walk backwards to get in place. Their was a problem with Idris’ horse, so the trainer and Idris took the horse for a spin in the filed to reacquaint the horse with it’s rider. And that is how I got this shot. Very lucky through my car đźš— window. Unnoticed. That’s a paparazzi shot. Thanks @gpfophillyfilm@pafia_#filmtaxcreditswork for bringing so many movies/TV shows to Philly this summer, which is my slow season.

Queer Eye Karamo Brown was spotted in Old City last week. An anonymous reader sent me this shot. The boys have been working 6 days a week on season 5 and yesterday were spotted in the Italian Market filming a segment. Reporter Brandon T Harden has a great interview with Karamo in the Inquirer this week.

Jonathan Van Ness, hairdresser on Queer Eye, and I must say everyone’s favorite. If there’s one guy people ask me about it’s JVN!! “[We]Pennsylvania SPCA were saddened to learn early this week that Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness’ beloved cat, Bug passed away. But, much to our surprise, JVN stopped into our PSPCA Fishtown Center to adopt not one, but two kittens who were in need of #furever families. While no one can ever replace Bug, we know these two bundles of love will certainly help on the way to healing. Thank you to JVN for choosing to #adoptdontshop.”

Speaking of the Pennsylvania SPCA , Jen Utley was in town earlier this month and visited Miss Piggy to help launch a Barn Animal Fund. Jen and her husband, legendary Phillies’ second baseman Chase Utley, have been supporting the Pennsylvania SPCA for more than a decade with Jen also serving on the Board of Directors of the organization during her family’s tenure in Philadelphia.  Together, Jen and Chase hosted many events, raising significant funds for the organization, which relies entirely on the generosity of the public to support its mission.  The Utley’s have remained vocal advocates for the PSPCA’s efforts to end animal cruelty.  How I miss the Utley All Star Animals fundraisers. So much fun.

Oh Baby Chase and Jen Utley, Alycia Lane, Aditi Roy and Brent Celek is off the market.

Last night at the Union League the Jimmy Rollins Family Foundation held their annual bash. This year’s theme: Taste of the World: Bollywood Bash 2014. It was great as many of his teammates were on hand to support his cause, and they dressed for the occasion. (I will cover the whole bash in my Philly Mag column which should be published by noon today update: Here, in the meantime THE BIG STORY OF THE NIGHT.)

Jen and Chase Utley are about to become parents again.
Jen to me, I’m not getting fat, I’m pregnant. Yeah, I don’t know if anyone in the press room was as excited as I was. Mr and Mrs Baseball are going to have another little Benjamin or Betty. Both of them were glowing as you can see. Friends of the couple tell me she is due in late fall, near the end of the baseball season. That seems to be the trend with baseball players.
Here are a lot of the pretty wives of the Phillies. OK I don’t know who the first gal is, but she’s pretty. Then it’s Trisha Manship,Stephenie Kendrick, Jen Utley, Heidi Hamels and Krystal Howard.

More baby news, as tweeted by me, then written more extensively by Philly Daily News’ Molly Eichel – former anchor at CBS3, Alycia Lane (who then moved to LA to take a job) is expecting a baby in June. Her sister Nicole took these photos, and I’m using them with permission.

Congrats Alycia, you look beautiful.
Congrats to former NBC10 anchor, now ABC reporter, Aditi Roy. She left Philly a few years back, to take a job in LA with ABC (I see a trend that LA), got married and now she’s a mom.
Brent Celek is off the market. Facebook notifications are like promise rings or being pinned by your favorite boyfriend in high school on Happy Days.
Please Check out today’s other entry where you’ll find Gov Ed Rendell & his disco ball.

Chase Utley and his wife Jennifer Utley dedicate the “Kindness to Animals” mural – Is Jennifer Utley Pregant – The Latest Pictures

Chase Utley and his wife Jennifer Utley take a stand against animal abuse, as they dedicate the “Kindness to Animals” themed mural in partnership with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. The mural will help promote the proper care and treatment of animals across the street from the community epicenter, Anna B. Pratt Elementary School. Designed by artist Willis Humphrey, the mural was painted by students of Anna B. Pratt Elementary School, Chase & Jennifer Utley, and volunteers from the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.

Passionate animal advocates, Chase & Jennifer Utley created the Utley Foundation to educate the community about the proper treatment of animals and fund non-profit organizations that are active in the fight against animal neglect, pain, and suffering. Prior to the mural dedication, the Utley Foundation and the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program invited students of Anna B. Pratt Elementary School to participate in poster, essay, and photo contests.
Principal Denise Young of Anna B. Pratt Elementary School greets the guests.
Mural Arts Program Executive Director Jane Golden thanks everyone with her infectious voice and enthusiasm.
This mural is so beautiful. You will recall in my post in April about how this mural came about, their was dog fighting in the school yard which was terrifying for the kids.

She looks great, but she has a baby doll shirt on and she’s glowing ? At one point she was hugging the kids and looking back to him like this is going to be us soon.)
