In 2007 I started my blog, this blog, Philly Chit Chat and at the same time bought the URL Philadelphia Social Calendar (I bought Philly Social Calendar as well) in hopes of launching a site to make it easier to find events.

I had just returned from living in Manhattan for nearly 2 years, and they had sites like this in place. I saw Philly didn’t have sites like this, in fact the news sites were barely online up and running. This was before Twitter, FB or Instagram were really used. I think at that time Facebook was still a college communication site. There really wasn’t too many events to photograph or calendar at the time, but I made it a point to photograph something people oriented everyday for PhillyChitChat while the idea of the social calendar took a backseat.

Over the years I was approached, or approached others on doing the Philadelphia Social Calendar, but when people realized how much work would go into it they decided it wasn’t for them. It’s not a huge money maker, it’s a service to the City.

These days we have so many events, many times conflicting. Nothing was worse than last October when the Pink Tie happened the same night as Philly Fights Cancer. Two incredible organizations raising funds for cancer research and assisting those afflicted with the illness. Over the years I did have a gmail calendar on my blog, receiving between 100 to 300 views a day, but then when I revamped it last year the new site didn’t support the kind of calendar I wanted.
Social Fast forward to October 2017 and Lynsie Solomon (r) approached me and told me she and her husband Evan Solomon EFS Network, could build the kind of calendar I wanted. Then I told her I owned the name Philadelphia Social Calendar, and Philly Social Calender. We decided to go with the first name as it just seemed more complete to me than the Philly one. It’s now up and running, so we decided to have a launch party the other day, inviting our everyday friends and a few PR peeps we work with every week. Additional photos will appear in Philly Style Magazine later today, plus there’s a great article in Metro Philly that actually tells the story better as Jennifer Logue is more concise.

It’s a GORGEOUS DAY, head to The Deck at Moshulu at Penns Landing. It’s the hot spot for the summer. A lot of us feel it’s a great alternative to the other spots on the water as it’s laid back, chill and romantic. The views are spectacular. The Philadelphia Social Calendar

As Philly’s main chronicler of social events in Philadelphia, I can tell you that there are a lot of events and a lot of conflicts where similar events are held on the same day . All the way back in 2008 when I bought the URL’s Philadelphia Social Calendar and Philly Social Calendar dreaming one day that I could create a calendar of social events to help charities as well as business’ get the word out, and as a service to people who wanted to attend events. Definitely one of the most asked questions I am asked is “I wish I knew of that event beforehand, I would have gone.” Over the years Social Media has helped me get the word out, and there are really good sources that do as well, but I still get ask the question after I post photos about an event. Thanks to Lynsie Solomon for coming to me and telling me we can make this happen as well as the team at EFS Networks Inc that built the website, the dream I had nearly a decade ago is now coming true. (It’s hard to believe but PhillyChitChat is 10 years old in July)

Philadelphia Social Calendar is Philadelphia’s one-stop-shop for all of the events and activities that make our city that much more vibrant. We priced it reasonably as we really want this to be a service to the City as well. Both Lynsie and I are passionate about events, especially charities, and hope a calendar like this will make it easier for organizations when planning those events to make the most positive impact in the community for a successful outcome. I remember one year when the Morris Animal Refuge and the Pennsylvania SPCA picked the same date for their galas. People were upset, it was convenient for me as one was at the Marriott and the other at the Loews, but others had to choose. Or this past year when Komen Philadelphia had their Pink Tie the same night as Philly Fights Cancer on opposite sides of town. Events can’t always be scheduled for everyone’s convenience but if we can help in anyway to alleviate conflicts, we hope this calendar will.

Festival: 2nd Annual South Philly SausageFest September 10 #PCCBuzz

West Passyunk Avenue (between South Broad and 15th streets) is heating up.

Newbold Community Development Corporation fires up the grills again for the 2nd Annual South Philly SausageFest on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 12:00pm to 8:00pm. South Philadelphia’s annual sausage-themed food fest takes place along West Passyunk Avenue (between South Broad and 15th streets). Look for sausage and sausage-inspired dishes cooked up in a variety of traditional and unique styles – including vegan – from ten restaurants and eateries that are part of the upcoming food scene on the other side of Broad Street. Festivities also include craft beer from seven breweries, live music, vendors and family fun. The event, sponsored by AFC Urgent Care, will be a fundraiser for the Newbold CDC’s Street Cleaning Program. Admission is free with food and drink pay-as-you-go. “After years of watching East Passyunk Avenue explode with culinary creativity, the residents of the Newbold neighborhood are now getting their chance to experience fine dining, with the recent opening of several new eclectic ethnic restaurants along West Passyunk and Snyder Avenues,” said Timothy Lidiak, President of Newbold CDC. “The Newbold neighborhood will soon reach hipster nirvana with the anticipated autumn 2016 opening of two new craft breweries – BreweryARS and Second District Brewing Company. Tap lists will be released a week before the event.

The festival also includes arts and crafts as well as children’s activities sponsored by Olde City Day School, and managed by Philadelphia Family Pride. South Philly SausageFest will feature the following children’s activities from 12:00pm to 4:00pm:

South Philly SausageFest is free to attend, with food and drink pay-as-you-go. Advance tickets for beer are also available online ahead of the event – with discounts for those that plan ahead! Beer tickets are 3 for $12.00, 10 for $35.00 and 18 for $54.00. SausageFest shirts are also available online for only $15.00 each.

Proceeds from the event will benefit and fund Newbold CDC’s Street Cleaning Program in partnership with Horizon House, Inc., who provides a wide range of services for adults with developmental disabilities, drug and alcohol addictions, and/or homelessness. Newbold CDC employs its cleaning crew through Horizon House’s workforce program and puts these individuals to work in cleaning up the commercial corridors along West Passyunk and Snyder Avenues from South Broad to 19th Streets.

The Cleaning Program has been underway since early 2014 and is supported by local business sponsors including Ultimo Coffee, AJ Appliance, and DJCRE Real Estate as well as the City’s Commerce Department. Newbold CDC will use 100% of the proceeds from this year’s South Philly SausageFest to support the Cleaning Program.
