Sunday Chit Chat

It’s Spring Time To Think About Your Shore House; Chase Friedman A Miracle

The Shore House Hotels, the popular new digitally-driven
boutique hotel company based at the Jersey Shore, announced earlier this month that it has closed a private, multi-million dollar fundraising and completed the acquisition of the Sandpiper Motel located at 1600 Ocean Avenue, North Wildwood.
The property at 1600 Ocean Avenue, formerly the Sandpiper Motel, will undergo a complete design and branding overhaul prior to its opening this summer as The Shore House Hotel and Swim Club – North Wildwood.
While the team will preserve the structure and retro spirit of the 1960’s mid-century motel, the 21 pet-friendly units will feature a fresh mid-century meets coastal chic aesthetic designed by founder and hotelier Kevin Reardon. The 20-foot heated, salt-water pool will be a focus of the experience and boast private cabanas, fire-pits and designer floral installations. Looking to new growth opportunities around curated events and experience-making as the world emerges from the pandemic, The Shore House has also tapped Peter Zingoni as a new strategic partner. Mr. Zingoni is a veteran of the convention, tourism, and hospitality industries,
and is a former professional hockey player with the Philadelphia Flyers organization. The Shore House made a splash onto the lodging scene a few years ago with its forward-thinking model that leverages cloud-based technology to operate its properties.

Sly Stallone shared the story of courageous, determined LA resident, Chase Friedman who slipped and fell on his friend’s bathroom floor on New Year’s Day in Philadelphia. The freak accident severely injured his spine and left him unable to move his arms and legs. Doctors said he would never walk again, and in less than three months, with his determination and lots of work, and a miracle or two no doubt, he climb the Rocky Stairs. Something he told his doctors he would do before heading back home to LA.

Read more about his journey here in the Philadelphia Inquirer. and follow his TIKTOK here.

Today is the last day you can check out the The Philadelphia Antiques and Art Show which is in its 57th year of showcasing the country’s preeminent dealers of antiques and fine art.  The 62 exhibitors offer a vast selections of decorative and fine art spanning the 17th century to the present.

Holy cow the Starbucks at 19th and Chestnut Streets is closing Monday night. Sounds like the lease wasn’t renewed as it’s the end of the month. The notes on the door thank you for your long time patronage, and encourage you all to stop by and find out where your favorite barristers will be relocating, plus the location of the nearest Starbucks. There’s also a 2nd note inviting everyone to a friends and family party on Monday April, 29 from 4pm to 8pm. – I always liked this Starbucks, as it was a double decker which allowed for good people watching from the 2nd floor. You’ll recall this was also the place where months of Pope water was stored when it didn’t sell at his rally in 2015.

Exciting! Stars of #STUBERDave Bautista (Batista) & Kumail Nanjiani – made an appearance at a special College preview of the film, plus visited our iconic Rocky Statue! They also stopped by both Pat’s and Geno’s, and made the media rounds. Can’t wait until the hilarious #STUBER hits theatres on July 12th!!! 20th Century Fox – Photo by Allied THA and posted on Ann Marie Nacchio FB Page

Radio’s Delilah was in town last week stopping by IHeart Radio’s The Breeze 106.1. Thanks to Valerie Knight, the morning host, for inviting me to lunch to meet Delilah as I’m a huge long time fan. We chatted about the various charities she works with, and about her sons suicide, which brought us both to tears. I love the story of these two women, I wish I could remember the women on the lefts name, but she’s from Peru, missed family when she arrived in the states. She didn’t speak English, but did listen to Delilah whose voice comfortered her. Years later when her sister was having a baby girl she asked her daughter to name her Delilah, and she did. Hey Delilah Cruz on the right, who is the IHeart radio promotions director. Radio Delilah can be heard every night on The Breeze from 7PM to midnight.

According to John Clarke, NBCSports, he ran into country music star Tim McGraw was at NFL draft in Nashville. Wearing 1980 Phillies World Series ring from his dad Tug 👊🏼 Tim told me he loves Philly for the way they treated Tug and the passion and love they have for their athletes. The same night I photographed the man inside the Phillies’ Phanatic costume –
Tom Burgoyne, who had the 2008 Phillies World Series Ring on. I like the upgrade.

Mr. Wish everyone’s favorite bubble tea spot is heading to 21st and Walnut Street. Have a great day, create some memories and chit chat the day away. – HughE

Sunday Chit Chat – Shipp Returns, Vetri Stops By, Eric Blumenfeld

Sunday Chit Chat – Shipp Returns, Vetri Stops By, Eric Blumenfeld Marries

Welcome to Sunday, hope you’re keeping warm.

The cold has made for some beautiful photos.

Welcome home Brittney Shipp, as she returns to NBC10 Philly to share weather duties with Bill Henley. I don’t recall someone boomeranging back to the same station after leaving to go to another city (Oh wait I was chatting with Mike Jerrick today, and he did leave Fox 29 in the 90s and come back in the 00s). I have seen them come back and go to a competing station, so this is really cool. So excited for her, and us. Shipp returns to NBC10 after working as chief meteorologist for KRON-TV in the San Francisco Bay area for two years. She worked at NBC10 as a meteorologist from 2013 to 2016.While she was gone she also wrote a children’s book –  “The Meteorologist in Me.”  Here she is with her NBC10 co-worker, anchor Jacqueline London enjoying the weather this weekend.
Congrats to Michael Strauss and his new eatery Mike’s BBQ is South Philly. Despite the wind, snow and freezing temperatures, he’s sold out of many of the items on the menu night after night, so get there early. Marc Vetri stopped by to wish him well. I think Marc looks damn happy, and relaxed. He’s not a big smiler, but he’s grinning ear to ear about life now. Yes for Marc this is a grin ear to ear.

Congrats to developer Eric Blumenfeld and Laura Cordaro on their marriage, which took place at his latest project The Divine Lorraine Hotel on New Year’s Eve in the newly renovated ballroom at the iconic hotel. I still pinch myself when I realize the most beautiful building in the City has come back to life. THANK YOU ERIC!!

Spotted: Marcus Johnson wide receiver of Philadelphia Eagles dined at Davio’s in center city earlier this week. Marcus had a calamari to start, ordered an 10oz filet medium well for entree.

Spotted: Betty Schlesinger Domb stopped by her namesake restaurant recently with her son, Councilman Allan Domb. It’s one of my favorite restaurants as well, I’m a huge fan of their Academy Sandwich, pickle bar and the HughE German Chocolate Cake, plus the FunFetti Cake.

Mayor Kenney celebrated two years in office, by tweeted out a series of photos earlier this week including this one of me.
WOW so nice, thanks.

Hope to see you at Saxbys latest coffee shop tomorrow. I’ll be shooting the event from 11AM til 1PM.

8:30-9:15 a.m. – Beneficial Bank CEO Gerry Cuddy will serve drinks behind the bar.
9:15-10 a.m. – Agile Cat CEO Peter Madden will serve drinks behind the bar.

Christmas Village Moves, Engaged, Jen Carroll Returns

The weather outside was frightful, yesterday, which is exactly the kind of weather I like to photograph. I covered a lot of ground shooting scenes I envisioned in my head, and was excited would come true this year – A White Christmas,

or at least snow on holiday displays. I’ll be showing those photos tomorrow cause today it Philly Chit Chatter. Let’s see what’s happening with our neighbors….

Barely the dust settled and Christmas Village opened a few weeks ago to great fan fare. Last week was the 10th Anniversary celebration, when I took this shot of shoppers lining JFK Blvd to check out several vendor cabins that lined the street.

Yesterday to my surprise they had moved

inside to a newly opened section of Love Park, now the entrance to a Christmas Village is perfectly situated at the corner of 15th and JFK,

catty-corner from City Hall’s holiday festival and Philly Made vendors. AND now there’s tables to sit and enjoy all the delicious delights you can purchase at the Christmas Village.

Two weeks ago Philly born, Top Cheftestant fan favorite Jen Carroll, was on the Today Show in a chef showdown for best tailgate party. Jen had previously competed on Top Chef Season 6: Las Vegas & Season 8: All Stars. Now she’s returned to TOP CHEF this season to compete in Denver. “..four “Top Chef” veterans returned to compete against this season’s eliminated contestants. Jennifer Carroll, Kwame Onwuachi, Marcel Vigneron and Lee Anne Wong” (source)

Spotted at Parc restaurant, a flip phone with former Gov Ed Rendell and Councilman Allan Domb

Congrats to Irene and Ben who got engaged Friday night at The Miracle on South 13th Street

George and Laura who got engaged yesterday at the Phila Art Museum. It’s the engaging season.
