Komen Philadelphia hosted its More Than Pink Party at Cescaphe’s Vie last month. It’s crazy how time escapes us.

I published these photos in other outlets, but I wanted to pay personal attention to this event as it was informative and fun to “follow the money” that is donated by you, and sponsors.

For 27 years, Elaine I. Grobman CEO, Susan G Komen Philadelphia has built the Komen Philadelphia organization’s following by letting others tell their stories – from survivors to volunteers, donors to sponsors.

Attendees enjoyed a cocktail hour and a seated program emceed by CBS3‘s Jessica Dean and Natasha Brown.
Jessica talked about the three years she’s been involved with Komen Philadelphia and honored her co-worker Natasha Brown mentioning she’s
been with Komen Philadelphia for over a decade, and currently serves on the Komen Philadelphia Board of Directors.

Dr. Richard Pestell , President of the Pennsylvania Cancer and Regenerative Medicine Research Center, Baruch S. Blumberg Institute and Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center, was given the Jamie Brook Lieberman Honor for exceptional cancer care. Josh Lieberman, Carole Lieberman, Dr. Richard Pestell (accepting the Jamie Brooke Lieberman Honor) and Jules Lieberman. The Brook Lieberman Remembrance Award celebrates the life and legacy of a women taken by breast cancer at the young age of 35. The award is bestowed on an individual who, like Jamie, show a commitment to the cause, who want to lead in making a significant change, and who not only have hope in the cures but are every day in pursuit of saving lives.

The party was called “More Than Pink” as it’s the new identity for Komen Philadelphia. It’s to remind everyone that they are more than just a color. More Than Pink drives home the point that their strength comes from the people, not the color. The people are most important in uniting the mission. More than Pink is a movement that encompasses all the people who give Komen power.

During a Q&A session at the event, Steve Rosen as husband Ron Blum looks on. Steve’s question concerned the time when
Komen national didn’t support Planned Parenthood, and Komen Philadelphia was the first of the chapters to speak up against that stance.
Eventually Komen national backed away from the issue, continued funding to Planned Parenthood where underserved women are able to
get the services they need.

Guests celebrated another successful year of fundraising by giving back to 15 local healthcare organizations. This year Komen Philadelphia distributed nearly three-quarters-of-one-million dollars to the following organizations; They included
Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health, Bayhealth Medical Center, Christiana Care Health Services, Crozer-Keystone Community Foundation, Drexel University College of Medicine, Einstein Medical Center, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Healthy Promotion Council of Southeastern Pa, Lancaster General Hospital, MD Ander Cancer Center at Cooper, Penn Medicine – Abramson Cancer Center, Phila Corporation for Agingin, Phila Depat of Public Health and
The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson.

The Race for the Cure is coming up on May 14, and we pride ourselves on wearing pink to show solidarity, it is also very important to register and sponsor a walker in the Race for the Cure. Funds from the walk go to provide services and awareness in our area to eradicated breast cancer. SO REMEMBER TO REGISTER
