Clay Aiken in Concert, but mostly talking, in Philadelphia, PA

I admit it, I like Clay Aikin, I like Barry Manilow too, not so much for Liberace, but what do these three guys have in common. Well sure the obvious, but also the fact they have ethusiatics devoted fans, maybe, YES fanatic fans, the Fanilows, the ladies and the Claymates. Although I own all three CD’s of Clay’s, I had never been to a concert. Not for any particular reason, he just didn’t go to a venue that was close enough for me to sit through his concert, I have his CD’s and I had already met him in NYC, in fact we had lunch together, he sat behind me at a place near 65th and Columbus once. I left him alone, but was excited to see him.
It was fun to see the Claymates celebrate their love for him
Last night as I listened to Clay sing, the song list he picked out was so very sad. I commented this to a Claymate as she said with a smile, all his songs are sad, why didn’t he sing more upbeat songs, has he been beaten down by the tabloids and his RCA label so much that it is coming through in his songs. Another noted thing was when he wasn’t singing he was talking, and talking was something he did a lot of, well that and singing TV theme songs and quizing his fans on TV theme songs (I guess Clay stays in a lot). But when he did sing, it was beautiful and moving, and when he dialoged he had few positive things to say about anyone that wasn’t his fan and then he didn’t really respect them that much either (although he praised the Philly Pops and its conductor many many times,) at one point he brought up the Kelly Ripa incident, in Kelly Ripa’s own hometown, did anyone boo him, no, what’s up with that? OK I didn’t boo either, but I was too busy feeling sorry for Clay for his persecution (but he failed to mention how his friend Rosie defended him, even though she accidently outed him too),
then he went on with the airline foot on armchair problem (that was a ridiculous situation) at some point he actually bit the hand that fed him by insulting the kind of music that had made his career what it is today, he stated that the orchestra accompanying him was expecting to play “Barry Manilow” junk all night long and now instead they get to play a medly of cool songs from the 80’s including Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” (I’m sure he’s more than like a virgin!), and Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” (and he said it in a way that made it seem spontaneous, but did mention that his internet fans might have known it wasn’t) (no comment)
then it was about a letter he read on stage where a fan, a girl, complained her idolized Clay Aken was eating too many Krispy Kremes (I heard a girl behind me say we should kill her, Clay did to, he said let’s not kill her, but I will hand out her email later – LOL), I guess Clay was going for the sympathy vote, but how hard would it have been to have read a positive letter, or even mentioned how nice it was that his fans were so devoted. What was really shocking was when a fan who was sitting about 7 rows from the front would every so often hold up a sign that said “I came All The Way From Iceland to see Clay”. Well she held it up too many times for him which caused him to say “I know you came all the way from Iceland to see me, thanks, now put down your sign!” Clever spelling, I bet there’s plates like this in every state
A group of women told me at intermission that Clay always comes out after a concert near the stage door and shakes his fans hands. Oooh he is such a gentleman to do that, she cooed. “I said really, does he sign anything?”, “no just shakes their hands and moves along. Jerome walks in front of him and shines a light on the fans hands, Jerome is his bodyguard.” I knowing the answer, I said, “how odd, why does Jerome do that? I have seen many, many celebs shake their fans hands without checking them out with a light first.” “Well “the women said, as she smoothed out the crinkles on her Clay Aiken T-shirt, “some of the fans are a little, hmm you know,” “I said crazy!” “I like to think excited”, she said. Excited, I didn’t even want to go there!!
After the show I went to the stage door where there was a huge crowd of middle aged women, er I mean fans. It was all a bit bizarre, but hey I was there too. While waiting for Clay to come out, I asked one of those women if she was a Claymate, she seemed offended and swore she wasn’t. I mentioned that I thought the concert was sad, and that Clay had become a sad figure of late, if only he could be true to himself and not fear the rejection of his fans because (Although I did ask someone else that question “If Clay finally came out would his fans still be loyal, and she said the fanilows still love Barry, but I said he’s not out yet either?) Didn’t the Claymates notice the attitude change between the the first CD cover and the 2nd? He was so cute, adorable and unknown, had fame burned him? Or was it that that internet incident rumor, that seems to be more true lately than ever, Clay never sued the guy for LIBEL or SLANDER. Finally,
in February 207, when Clay was on Jimmy Kimmel, he seemed to be coming out of his funk, returning to the fantastic, positive, up beat guy I remembers in his first year, but with a sense of maturity playing on those internet rumors as he serenaded Jimmy with a song he prepared just for him based on those candy hearts they sell at Valentine, using words like “Sweetheart”, “Honey” and “Magic”, I got the inside joke, especially when he presented Jimmy with balloons in a heartshape. It was very funny. Ok so our discussion continued like this: I said Clay is so upset over not being played in the Top 40, it is disappointing, but his fans are right there, right now, we bought his CD’s do we have to make radio an enemy because they aren’t playing his songs, he didn’t even urge his fans to call the radio stations, he just complained about it.
Plus his 2nd CD was all covers! She said Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow had successful covers. “Yeah, and they are at the end of their careers!” I siad. She vehemently defended him saying, Clive Davis made him do that CD, ok whatever, another blame on someone else. At that point I had to tell her the truth, “You are a Claymate!!”, she fought me back on that, and said you are no fan! Just then the police showed up to break up the crowd. For a good ten minutes the police and security said “No one is coming out, please disperse” but the Claymates held firm still believing that Clay wouldn’t disappoint them and appear, I’m sure some of them were still there when his bus whizzed by on the way to Morton’s Steak House. A couple last things. One of the more amusing things that happened in the audience was the action by security and ushers as they constantly had to warn people to stop taking photos, and were much more stern if you were taking video. I later asked one of them why they were so strict at this concert. They said that Clay’s management team was adamant that no one take photos, and especially not video. The women I spoke with said she had never seen such a strong worded letter warning them to stop the violators or Clay would never play there again. I thought how ironic, he complains about not being in the “Top 40”, but then doesn’t want to get his music out to the internet.
I am still a Clay fan as I love his music, but I think I will stick with his CDs. An Agenda: Maybe if he was truthful to himself, and his fans, his music would reveal a happier soul and he would have such sissy fits with hosts, passengers on airlines, Top 40 radio or anyone else that doesn’t measure to his standards.
I did love that a women put her undies up on stage so Clay could find them after intermission. It would have been nice if Clay was flattered instead of critizing the women calling her gutless and a few other choice adjectives, practically accusing her of having cooties. No wonder she wanted to remain anonymous.
Says his butt is going to show up in a scandal someday.
I have Just Added this Video 7/19/07 – I believe this is the song that really moved me. Clay wrote it himself, and I think it’s very biographical. Maybe you all missed that, he’s a lover all alone.

I don\’t think we were at the same concert…I saw a humorous, easy going man with a great voice! BTW his name was Clay Aiken. The man is a wonderful entertainer, too bad there are people who aren\’t smart enough to pick up on the humor, but then if they did that they couldn\’t criticize and bash him could they? Agenda much?
Gees, lighten up, dude, it\’s called entertaining the audience. Did you miss all the people laughing and having a great time at the show? Yes, some of these were inside jokes that non-fans may not understand, but so what? Clay\’s banter is an important part of his concerts, and I wouldn\’t miss it fo the world.
as a fan of clay\’s during idol, i admired him for his charity work and being a great role model for kids. i will even admit to having a cd of his and a dvd of his. however, his behavior on Regis & Kelly and everything after that has made me wonder what happened to the clay that america fell in love with? now he\’s too \”big\” to even sign autographs for even his biggest fans? and he gets mad at his fan for holding up a sign?
Sorry you were disappointed. I don\’t normally defend the guy because he really doesn\’t need it, but I wanted to point out he didn\’t shake hand at the buses because the venue wouldn\’t allow it. He posted an apology on his official fan club to that affect. He jokes about radio and whatnot because, face it, he\’s been pretty much smacked around by it and it\’s dj\’s. His fans know he\’s snarking…sorry you didn\’t grasp that. He is right on some level, though, as lots of stuff out there is crap. But if someone likes it, whatever, ya know?
As to teasing his fans? Yep, he does it, most enjoy it, and some of them deserve some ridiculous commentary as their own commentary to the man is so far out of line. I mean, really, writing his back up a letter to point out they think he is getting fat, and they do so much for HIM, he owes it to them to look the way they want? Ballsy, to say the least. He should have told them to fuck off…but that would be my reaction. He\’s better mannered than me.
And should he decide he wanted to say he\’s gay? I\’ll still be there as he\’s a hella good entertainer and human being and orientation means shit.
Keep on keepin\’ on….
Well, now, this is VERY interesting, considering I know this fan from Iceland, and have for at least three years. So I scurried over to the message board she frequents to see if her account meshed with yours, and NOPE, not at all. She was totally excited, thrilled even, at her treatment at the concert, even being lucky enough to get a photo taken with Clay.
She is on her way back to Iceland today, but I asked her to come post here when she returns so she can set the record straight.
Does make you wonder, though, at how many other inaccuracies were in that recap, doesn\’t it? Hmmmmmmm…….
Oh, and one other thing. I heard the entire concert via cellcert last night, and what I heard was a room full of people screaming, laughing, swooning, and in general having a MARVELOUS time. I\’m very sorry you didn\’t enjoy yourself, blogger, but then it sounds very much as if you went in determined not to. I can\’t imagine why, really, but Clay obviously didn\’t meet your expectations (to do what? come out of a closet he\’s not in?), but then again, it\’s usually best not to have expectations, but just an open mind. A lot more fun to be had that way, I promise! 😉
I\’m glad to see Clay can give his fans so little and get this much alligence. Sounds like George Bush country.
Agenda driven blog. I\’m just curious why you bothered. Especially since you don\’t \”appear\” to be \”outraged\”.
If I had been this \”disappointed\” I wouldn\’t have even bothered, unless of course your purpose is to \”save/warn others\” OR as is obvious further your own wishful agenda. Why do YOU care so much? It really IS pretty obvious.
Actually its called a blog and its my opinion, I have one. I thought it was fun to see all the Claymate\’s cars decorated, and I even bothered to talked to some too. I really thought that Clay would be really, really excited and grateful that his fans loved him so much. I was surprised that being passive/aggressive was entertainment. I checked out the site for the \”message\” from Clay, but you have to join top get it. Could someone please post it? Also I talked to the Mann Security, and it was on Clay\’s Team that they insisted no one record him, and such recordings should be deleted. So much for access. Thanks:)
I had a good time at the concert. I didn\’t get that his commentary was complaining about this and that, like you perceived it. He seemed to be telling it like it is. I thought the bit about Rod Stewart was freakin\’ hysterical. That and him saying \”Now I\’m a man\” in a really deep voice.
It\’s hard to read commentary like yours because you made your recap about how you see him as gay and closeted and that\’s supposed to make everyone else dislike him. I don\’t see him like that at all and I enjoy his singing and his talking. Liking Clay Aiken doesn\’t mean I need to get into his pants, like you seem to suggest all his female fans like to do. Is it not possible to enjoy an artist and not care who he/she sleeps with?
I know it ain\’t me, and it sure ain\’t gonna be you. So why make such a big deal about it?
I hope that the next concert I go to of his will be more of his own songs. The one song he said he wrote was fantastic.
I agree, I like his own stuff. I wish he didn\’t do a CD of covers. I don\’t think that everyone wants to sleep with him, but everytime he dirty danced with his girls, the crowd made that screaming exciting noise. Really it was just my observation from a fan who is not a Claymate, and sure I would like him to come out of the closet too!! I would hope his fans wouldn\’t abandoned him especially since we are in the 21st century. Don\’t you want Clay to be happy?
Interesting take on the concert and the fans. I was there last night and it didn\’t occur to me at the time but his best songs really are sad, at least the ones he sang yesterday. I was annoyed he didn\’t sing more from his first album (no Invisible! What???) but overall I liked it except for the TV themes bit which went on and on and on. If I\’d known more than 1 or 2 I might have liked it better.
The other poster is right btw, I read on a board how he blogged to apologize that the venue wouldn\’t let him meet the fans outside like he always does. I also don\’t believe the no camera policy came from him as I went to a Christmas concert a year or two back and cameras and videos were expressly allowed. I think it might have been because of the orchestra if it\’s not a venue thing (never been to the Mann before, the TLA is more my style 🙂 )
I don\’t quite get how you don\’t think Clay appreciates his fans. If you read the Meet and Greet recaps, one of the questions from the fans was, \”do you feel more secure with us now, that we\’re not going anywhere?\” And he answered that he does not want to take any of us for granted, but that he appreciates every one of us. And he hadn\’t planned to sing LAA at this concert series because he thought it was too sad, but the fans threw a fit because we adore the song, so he\’s singing it. Plus, he makes sure we understand that he is singing \”Because You Loved Me\” to us. I could go on and on, but I won\’t. It just seems you are determined to see everything about this concert in the most negative light possible, when the fans are over the moon ecstatic about it. He looked good, he was witty and very funny, and he sang beautifully. I only heard it through a cellphone but I went to bed a very happy woman.
And, let\’s say for argument\’s sake that Clay Aiken was a gay man. Does it follow that his fans still couldn\’t think he\’s drop-dead gorgeous? How absurd!!
This sad person went to the concert with her mind already made up to find fault with everything he did. I wonder if putting down Clay and his fans gave her the satisfaction she was looking for. Clay\’s fans love him and he loves us, that\’s all that matters. Certainly not a nobody blog.
http://clayaikenfraudsquad.blogspot.com/
Bwah! I see the idiot haters have found this blog, and ready to advertise their wares.
I had a dream about them last night, that they came to the end of their lives and realized that they had wasted it hating on a man who did nothing worse than be human, just like them, only much nicer (and richer! ;).
A wasted life is a terrible thing, yo.
The fans understood every one of those things – and hes there to play to the fans. Get on board and enjoy the ride.
As for wanting his stuff out there – there is more Clay Aiken video by a thousand fold available on the internet then any other star out there because Clay ALLOWS video – sometimes the venue does not. What Clay asks us not to do is use flash – that\’s all.
Sorry you feel the way you do. Come on over and find out more about him on the message boards – you\’ll find that all those things you mentioned were really the fun of the whole show. We are one big family.
PS – the music is all kind of low key because the cd he is promoting is also. Wasn\’t his idea – just ask him.
My mom once said: \”If you don\’t have anything nice to blog about, put down the keyboard and step away from the mouse\”.
-Clay\’s Number #1 fan!
PS: At least Clay has the courage to sing his heart out for the rest of us, on stage, and in the open. He doesn\’t hide behind an anonymous blog spreading his poison and negativity. Get a life!
Now, tell me: Why do you have a problem with female fans finding Clay Aiken sexy?
Is this a new kind of political correctness? Straight people can\’t find gay people sexy? Some of my friends find st8s sexy.
I\’ll have to remember this social interaction rule for the future and I\’ll have to thoroughly investigate an artist\’s personal life before I decide how attractive they are.
Last I checked, BTW, person 1 cannot sue person 2 for saying the person 1 is gay. I actually think that is a good thing. It is not slander or libel to be called gay, thank god.
Great piece. Just reading over some of the comments makes me wonder what kind of alternate dimension these people live in; it\’s as if they are Clay ala Being John Makovich. I cannot believe these people are attacking you and saying you have an agenda; it\’s obvious you were merely expressing your take on this one event. Far from bashing it or Clay Aiken.
Like you, I would consider myself a Clay Aiken fan (of the non-delusional kind). I think he has a brilliant voice and having been to a concert, hearing that voice live was magnificent. I\’m glad you got to go.
This is just another gay blogger bashing Clay for not being gay. Piss on you for twisting everything to suit your nasty agenda. What a Kunt.
Why did you even bother to attend any of Clay\’s concerts? You obviously are not a Clay fan but a Clay hater. Get a and stay out of ours and get your facts straight. Also before you post pictures you should get permission. I never gave anyone written permission to post my picture and I certainly do not want it posted in the discusting blog (if that is what you call it). Please stay away from our concerts you scum.
Excuse me, but do you sleep with Perez Hilton, if not you certainly should. You both come from the same mold. Have a great life and find a new hobby, nobody here really cares what you think!!!
OOOppps I think the person before me left the word LIFE out. Fingers must have been burning up the keyboard. LOL
I agree with another person, we weren\’t at the same concert because I don\’t agree with a word you put in your trash blog. I would bet 99% of the people would disagree with what you said. For someone who isn\’t a fan you sure did put a lot of work into this blog, too bad you didn\’t get all your facts straight!!! NEED A NEW FACT CHECKER THERE HON!!!!!!!!
Get a life and from now on do us all a favor stay away and get yourself some tickets to a Brittney Spears conert!!!ugh!!!
D
Mr. Hughe,
You should be ashamed of yourself for leading those in the parking lot to believe you were an honest Clay fan. I sent you an email demanding you not use my picture. I\’m glad you didn\’t. You lied to those who\’s cars you took pictures of. Also, claiming to be a fan and not knowing what the BAF is a dead giveaway of not being a fan. Maybe if you took the time to look at the Clay\’s contributions to the less fortunate, rather than beat a dead horse involving his sexuality, you\’d look past a negative perception of Clay and see a decent human being there. But you\’re right, it is your blog and your opinion, but this is my comment and my opinion, you are scum and a Perez Hilton wannabe. It\’s pathetic really.
Some people don\’t even try to understand Clay\’s deliciously sarcastic sense of humor.
Wow, you people are bananas. I didn\’t think Hugh\’s opinion of the concert was a bad one, just critical of a few things. I can appreciate the fans who responded to the criticisms in a thoughtful and informative manner, but what\’s the deal with calling this post and its writer \”discusting(sic)\”, etc.? Is Clay Aiken beyond criticism? I don\’t think you do Clay any favors by acting so loony. Calm down.
At the end of the day, knowing that Clay\’s voice is magnificent live is what\’s going to get people to go to one of his concerts.
I agree, mla, that reasoned, informative answers are best, and I gave a few of them on here.
However, I think a few fans have just had it up to here with all the lies and insults spouted about Clay Aiken on the internet, and they tend to want to give tit for tat.
I wish, though, that they would just give the facts and not resort to the insults and name-calling, frustrated though they may be.
I think you went to the concert with an agenda. All of the songs are not sad. Some are love songs from the album. Here you come again is not sad. Nor is Everything I Have or A thousand Days or Moam. He was having fun and funny. I think the fans need to stop being taken in by someone like this.
Sounds like a non-fan pretending to be a fan.
I haven\’t been \”taken in\” at all. I don\’t believe this blogger is a fan, either.
I just don\’t think we have to lower ourselves to the haters\’ standards with name-calling and insults. I think we\’re better than that.
It amazes me how much non-fans seem to care whether Clay is gay or not. HIS FANS DON\’T CARE!!! They truly don\’t. Even the ones that totally scream and thud for him. It\’s all a fun fantasy for a wonderful guy with a gorgeous voice.
Tracy,
I would not have given you my email had I had an agenda about writing nasty things about Clay. I had already shot your car, and then I asked if you wanted me to take a photo with you and your car, does that sound like an agenda? I don\’t think so. I love Clay, I really do. Maybe if I had gone to a million concerts of his I would understand his sense of humor of humor, maybe Kelly Ripa would have too, but I didn\’t, what I did do was go to his first concert in the Philly area since he played at the Licoarus Center a few years back. Sure I know when he\’s played in our area because I was waiting to see him. Back to you, I thought that all the cars, which by the way are in a public parking space, were terrific, I told you I can\’t stand Perez Hilton, and I didn\’t appreciate his snarky humor, oh wait perez can be snarky, and so can Clay, but don\’t be snarky about Clay ok I get it double standard. What exactly was bad that I wrote? I mean Clay did say everything I wrote about. He really did block people from videoing and photographing, do you think the security guard lied when I questioned her after the show. He really did tell the girl from Iceland to put down her sign in a very nasty way, he complained about the FBI, he didn\’t praise the audience that travels far and wide for him, he made fun of the people that go on the internet and talk about him and how they knew his playlist, and he did make fun of the girl who left the underwear, what exactly was I missing?
If you would like the photo of you and your friends I will send it to you. I thought your car was great. And just because I don\’t know what his charity is, doesn\’t mean I am not a fan. I am not that obsessed with him. If you want to ask me about Madonna, or Bruce Springsteen well I can tell you a few things, but I probably don\’t know what their charities are either. I think it is great that she is donating the car to charity and I will promote that when it occurs. OK so will you be writing all the other critics that I have come across on the net today, especially the ones who complained about his lame TV Theme singing, which I thought was fun.
HughE
I\’m afraid I have to agree with almost everything you said. In particular the regrettable negative tone of Clay\’s \”banter\”. This format of a little singing with a lot of talk that is mostly negative first made its appearance for the 2006 Christmas tour. Since most of the fans love it, it\’s probably going to continue. What a shame. I guess he wants to be the next Don Rickles. His fans call it snark. This is another word for sarcasm, which is simply being rude. And most of his fans are too old to be using slang words like snark, without sounding just plain silly.
As to those of you posting here and on the various fan boards accusing the writer of this blog for having an \”agenda: just grow up. It\’s an opinion. Something everyone is entitled to. There\’s no agenda. There\’s no conspiracy. Clay would be so much better off without the misguided defense of his fans. And yes, I am a fan. A fan who used to be \”enthusiastic\” but now strives to just be a fan who appreciates his music and his stage presence. A fan who wishes he would just shut up and sing.
What\’s wrong with you people???? Nobody can have an opinion unless it is approved by the Claymates? Give up and let others have their say. Of course this poster saw something you didn\’t but nothing unusal about that. You claymates always see another side to clay. LET OTHERS HAVE THEIR OWN OPINION….YOU DO!
Have your opinion, nobody\’s stopping you.
However, an opinion is one thing, and misinformation is another. Just saying.
Thanks for your report. I was beginning to think I was the only one less than impressed. It\’s the strangest experience going to this year\’s concert.
Clay\’s playfulness seems to have been replaced by bitterness. Maybe I went in with the wrong expectations. I wanted to be entertained, and hear his voice, which really was amazing a few years ago.
It was just sad to see and hear how off he is now. I also didn\’t appreciate the vindicative and mean streak in the banter.
I really don\’t like this new side of Clay. He\’s no longer the person I initially admired.
Thanks again for sharing your opinion. I found it very true to my own experience.
Put yourself in Clay\’s shoes for a moment. He\’s pretty much been the whipping boy for the liberal media for four-plus years. I think he\’s earned the right to some biting-edged comedy. If I\’d had to take all the crap he has, I\’d be ready to tell the whole world to eff off. I\’m glad he can get some relief through humor. And the fans have been there through it all, so we can relate to what he is saying, and love it. Maybe not 100% of us, but a huge majority.
I\’m going to his concert in WPB. I\’m a fan but I have to say this will be my last concert if he doesn\’t start singing some original stuff. I\’m already disappointed having seen the set list and I haven\’t even seen him yet. The poster is entitled to her opinion. I hope she\’s not right, but something tells me she is. Somthing ain\’t right with Clay, and his career is not going in the right direction. Just sayin.
What did he say about the woman who left her underwear on the stage? I agree that he seems a lot less joyful than he did on Idol.
I\’ve been to three of this concert \’Soft Rock in a Hard Place\’, and after reading your blog, I honestly thought I was reading about a completely different concert. I do understand its your opinion and all, but your POV is like a completely different universe!
No, not all the songs are sad. However, many of the songs from his last album are from the same genre, era, and do have a similar sound. Since he was required to tour off of the album, putting the set list together was difficult.
My viewpoint is that he did a wonderful job putting the show together, and the additions to the songlist are very fun! The Classics medley is done irreverently, which is so enjoyable!
I enjoyed all three concerts immensely! I laughed my head off several times, and was amazed at his voice with each song. (He\’s the best live singer I\’ve ever heard.) I also made an attempt to talk to and listen to the non or casual fans who attended each concert. I did not overhear or talk to someone who wasn\’t delighted at the concert and amazed at both his voice and sense of humor. One of my friends watched an orchestra member in Houston laughing and raving about how funny and enjoyable the concert was.
If I had done an exit poll at each venue, I would wager the percent of people who enjoyed the heck out of the concert would be in the high 90\’s as compared to those who may have had experiences similar to yours.
And please, I have been to a great many concerts and have a very eclectic and diverse music library. Very few of Clay\’s fans fit some sort of lockstep mentality. Just like people everywhere. There are passionate fans and there are casual fans, as with any performer.
As for your assertion that he needs to declare he\’s gay, well, that\’s patently ludicrous. He\’s straight. (I\’m not homophobic or delusional, and I know what I\’m talking about.) But to also say his music would be happier if he declared his orientation? He already has declared his orientation. So your point is quite moot.
I love his sense of humor. I love his voice. I very much liked how the concert was structured and flowed from one song or medley to the next. Each concert has been a happy experience for me!!
I\’m sorry yours wasn\’t, but c\’est la vie.
WOW! I really know of no one that has had to endure the type of press Clay has had to endure over the course of his career.
The dude is damned if he does & damned if he does not . First of all let me say that Clay has more than once addressed the issue of whether or not he is gay :
***********************
1.Rolling Stone cover article in 2003 … \”One thing I`ve found of people in the public eye,\” Aiken says, either you`re a womanizer or you`ve got to be gay. Since I am neither one of those,
people are completely concerned about me.\”
2.2003 Primetime interview with Diane Sawyer … \”(Diane speaking) In Rolling Stone he hinted that he\’s a virgin and denied what\’s asked him over and over again–is he gay–he says no. (Clay speaking) Somebody asked it right after the finale of the show in the press conference with Ruben and I. I think the problem is that people don\’t know what to do with me, they don\’t know anything about me….I have gotten used to people asking the question. They think OK he doesn\’t drink, he doesn\’t go out and have sex with every woman that he sees. I think it\’s high time that there was somebody who represents the people who AREN\’T gay but don\’t sleep around with everybody.\”
**************************
The problem being is that folks just don\’t want to accept what he has said as truth , but want to project how they think he is by perceciption . Whatever Clay\’s lifesyle is his business and his alone !!
I am a fan of Clay\’s because he brought to the biz something unique, fresh & differnet than the \’junk\’ (and he is absolutely right for saying that ) that is on radio played adnausium these days . Clay\’s voice is pure , & his ability for attaining the high notes as well as the deep low notes is phenominal.
I am also a fan of Clay\’s for knowing that in his philenthropic work he does indeed want to make a difference and has raised a lot of money so far for BUBLE/AIKEN & UNICEF!
I have been a fan ever since his audition and I really do wish that people would understand that his concerts are partialy showcasing his pipes of perfection but also relating one on one with his fans . His banter back & forth with us (or snark as we have come to call it ) came about during his first concerts with taking the cellphones from us and joking with us about some of the very things we knew already. His fanbase is well aware of what he means and believe me there is never any ill-intent at any time , his audiance is rolling in the isles with laughter…..he is just joking with us . If you followed his career from its inception you would know this. You would have seen how very much he loves his fans , you would know by his blogs how many times he expresses appreciation and you would also know by the songs at each and every one of his 9 concerts so far that he has dedicated to us his fans saying thank you to us ! Geesh why not trying looking at his phenominal work in UGANDA or AFGANISTAN to simply make a difference.
Try reading his book \”LEARNING TO SING\” about the bullies he had to deal with (and he is still dealing with them ) and how he is more or less telling them he has taken his life back and is far from unhappy. He is grateful for his fans & the path God has him on ! He has said this many many times !
Oh my god, this whole thing is so pathetic… You people… It sounds so damn sad. People can write whatever they like in their OWN blogs, it\’s a personal opinion, there\’s nothing you can say to \”convince\” someone to think another way if they did or did not enjoy a concert. If you like this mush, fine! Who cares! If someone else doesn\’t, also fine! You shouldn\’t care that much, seriously. It\’s just sad.
By a person from the other side of the world who is pleased to never ever have heard a song by this person on the radio (in case you were deluded enough to think he was an \”international star\”, which it sounds like you might actually be, rest assured he isn\’t. No one cares.)
Here they go again…..another friggin gay blogger posting crap to stir the fans up. It\’s not working chump, we know your MO\’s by now. There are so many fallacies in this concert report that it\’s laughable. You are trying to say that Clay\’s tone of snark is vicious when in fact it is NOT. No one was insulted. I talked to the girl who Clay was snarkin on for coming in late….and she loved it. The people were laughing….just watch the videos. The song list was NOT all depressing songs. Since when are love songs depressing? He threw in two medley\’s of upbeat songs so the song list would not be too slow. All the songs were NOT covers…same old mantra from the same old haters. The crowd was NOT all older woman…just watch the videos or find pictures taken from the concert. Look for a crowd shot and not two women sitting together. There were many men and families there. The t-shirts you posted were the knock-offs being sold outside the venue. The authentic concert shirts sold inside the venue were black with pictures from his latest CD. Clay stated in his blog that he wanted to shake our hands and thank us for coming but the venue would not let him. Many of the musicians also stated that this was the case while they were leaving the venue. I guess the faux fan missed them …huh? When his bus finally left the venue, it stopped in front of the remaining fans and Clay waved and signed thank you to the fans for about five minutes. We all went home happy…period. Since when does an entertainer have to sign autographs for everyone? How ridiculously stupid of you to think that he owes us that. It would take hours to sign autographs for everyone who waited there. What artist do you know that continuously makes an effort to come out and shake his fan\’s hands after their concerts like Clay does. I can\’t think of anyone. I can go on and on but the videos will have all the proof we need. The next time we\’ll be waiting for you with our cameras. We may even start writing our own revues on the faux fans and taking pictures of their cars. Time to buy a new zoom lense for me.
for the silly person at 5:23 am. No one is trying to change this blogger\’s opinion. We are just stating the facts as we saw and heard. If the blogger does not like the comments, then maybe he should not blog. Are we all not allowed our points of view too?
WHO\’S CAR, WHICH IS PICTURED ABOVE, IS BEING DONATED TO ONE OF CLAY AIKEN\’S CHARITY? A PHILADELPHIA NEWSPAPER WANTS TO DO A STORY ON IT. Feel Free to Drop Me an email at HughE 2030 @ Aol . Com (No Spaces)
Thank you!!
Clay is nothing but a \”cover\” singer and has a following of middle age women. Radio stations don\’t play him becasue the average 20 something or 30 something for taht fact man or woman doesn\’t like him. You need to be 40+ to even consider listening to him. Claymates need to get of their high horses pretending he is a GOD and stop trying force the rest of us/society to like him
For the person posting @11:02 a.m. The song the blogger just posted is NOT a cover song & a song HE wrote the lyrics for !
Also , every concert I have been to have included people from all walks of life , all ages , male and female ! Clay is an entertainer that appeals to all ages , people just want to hear a good voice and HE HAS IT !!
Why anyone in their right mind is wasting time getting upset over Clay Aiken is beyond me.
Get a life!!
Are you sure he\’s not gay?
NY Post quote:
\”Clay Aiken and a bevy of male chorus dancers partied into the wee hours at Cain nightclub over the weekend. The group was celebrating the forthcoming Off-Broadway show, \”Idol: The Musical\” which is all about Clay and his \”Claymates,\” the fans who love him. Spies say the group ordered multiple bottles of Snow Queen vodka and poured into cabs together after a long night.\”
A bevy of male dancers? Snow Queen vodka? At least show up with a couple of lady groupies (the type that won\’t beat you up, Clay)and guzzle some beer !
I have to admit I don’t always take the time to read your stuff, usually I just check out the pictures. But the comments on this one are hysterical! This will make you famous! Soon lawsuits will be filed against you! You are sooo anti-gay!! I’m am trying not to fall off my chair in laughter.
Seriously though, I hope none of this hurt your feelings. I know you are a sensitive man – you’ll have to toughen up to handle this stuff.
Now back to the laughter . . .
BTW – does Mike know your true inner feelings about gay men? Shame, shame.
I am glad Clay rejected you, you are not good enough for him. Next you are going to accuse Barry Manilow of being gay, or Elton John!
