True Love. Then Cancer. Now What? The Bob and Janine Zinski Story

I wasn’t able to cover this story as my sister was very ill at this time and it was too difficult for me, but the story needs to be shared and it’s a wonderful story of love, hope and courage of Bob Zinski and his soulmate.

On Sunday November 15th, 200 friends, family and complete strangers joined Bob and Janine Zinski at Normandy Farm in Blue Bell, PA for Lotus Event Designs’ Casino Fundraiser for the Zinskis. Bob and Janine Zinski felt like the luckiest people on earth shortly after they found each other on in May of 2007. Both never-before married, attractive, singles agreed to a five minute meeting to “assess potential” one fateful night after the popular internet dating website connected them. That five-minute meeting turned into five amazing hours of divine chemistry. Both knew that night that their lives would never be the same — that they had found true love. janine and bob zinski

Eight months later, on the eve of their first Valentine’s Day together, Bob didn’t feel well, and an MRI exposed a 22 cm. mass in his liver. Bob was diagnosed with stage IV, incurable, inoperable cancer. Immediately, pure joy turned into intense fear, followed by a commitment to do everything possible to fight for Bob’s life. In the fall of 2008, Bob and Janine learned that Bob’s cancer had spread to his lymph nodes and to a bone in his spine. This meant more chemotherapy, then radiation therapy, then more chemotherapy. Bob went from a healthy 6’2” 200 lb. picture of health, to a fatigued 140 lb. fraction of himself. The cost of treatment, coupled with the emotional toll of this odyssey became overwhelming. But Bob and Janine soldiered on.

A Pittsburgh native and lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Bob’s story was featured on ESPN’s E:60 TV show, and both were guests of the Goodell family in the club box to witness the Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals to win their sixth Super Bowl on February 1, 2009 in Tampa, Florida. In September of 2009, an MRI at Suburban Mercy Hospital in Norristown, PA revealed three tumors in Bob’s brain. This news was devastating. What can we do now? “All we can do is fight, continue treatment, pray, and hope for a miracle,” said Janine Zinski. “All we have left is hope.”
In addition to the beneficiary Bob Zinski, a portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to: FOX CHASE CANCER CENTER
