FAQ’s From City of Philadelphia for DNC

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding the Democratic National Convention

When is the Convention? When do we expect Convention attendees to arrive and leave?

• The Democratic National Convention (DNC) begins Monday, July 25th,
and ends Thursday evening, July 28th. Attendees will arrive as soon as
Friday, July 22nd, and leave by Friday, July 29th.

Where does the Convention take place?
• The Convention takes place at the Wells Fargo Center in the evening
hours, typically from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. There will be smaller caucus and
council meetings during work hours at the Pennsylvania Convention
Center as well.

How many people are coming to Philadelphia for the Convention?

• The City expects approximately 50,000 Convention participants between
delegates, media, and other attendees.
Are there any changes to trash and recycling service during the DNC? Are
there any changes to municipal services, such as; court hours, jury duty, and city employee work schedules?

• At this time, all city services are expected to operate as scheduled. If that
changes, the information will be available on the City’s DNC home page:
www.phila.gov/democraticnationalconvention.

Will police and fire services be affected in my neighborhood due to re-
assignment of first-responders?
• Philadelphia Police, Philadelphia Fire and EMS services will not be
impacted by the DNC.

Will highways or streets be closed during the DNC?

• At this time, we do not anticipate extended road or highway closures in
Center City and other areas outside of the Stadium District. There may be
rolling closures due to dignitary movements or protests.

• Before you leave the house, we encourage you to check
@PhiladelphiaGov for any traffic news.

• There will be traffic restrictions around the sports complex, and we
expect United States Secret Service to announce those by early July at
the absolute latest. When they are announced, you can find the
information here: www.phila.gov/democraticnationalconvention.

How can the public be aware if large demonstrations are going to affect
them?

• Planned permitted demonstrations that impact traffic or require road
closures will be included on the City website road closure page, and
updates provided via social media. For more information visit:
www.phila.gov/democraticnationalconvention and follow
@PhiladelphiaGov.

• Demonstrations that deviate from the planned route or do not attain a
permit will be updated via social media. Follow @PhillyPolice and @PhiladelphiaGov

Will any SEPTA routes change during the DNC?
• Additional service along the Broad Street Line (BSL) will be added during
the convention. Travelers should expect crowds on public transit similar
to sporting events when Convention programming begins and ends.
While the Convention has not yet released their full schedule, historically
sessions have begun at 5 p.m. and concluded at 11 p.m.

• Transit riders can sign up for SEPTA alerts regarding system delays and
service disruptions through the City’s mass notification system,
ReadyPhiladelphia: http://www.phila.gov/ready.

• SEPTA also offers information through their website and social media:
http://www.septa.org/realtime/status/system-status.shtml and
http://www.septa.org/alert/twitter.html

Will there be special parking or towing restrictions?

• There will be some parking or towing restrictions, though we do not
expect it to be nearly as extensive as last year’s Papal Visit. Before the
weekend of July 23, and throughout the week of the DNC, please be sure
to check the street signs near where you normally park each day to
ensure there are no temporary parking restrictions.

Will the City allow camping?

• Because of the resources needed to manage the Convention, no permits
will be issued for camping.
Will it be difficult to go out during the Convention? Will restaurants have
available seating?

• Because the Convention historically takes place from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
each evening, Center City and other area dining destinations should have
open tables, especially during dinner hours, should you want to take
advantage of them.

Can I get into the Wells Fargo Center if I am not a credentialed media member
or delegate? Can anyone attend the convention?

• Only those who are credentialed have access inside the Wells Fargo
Center, which include media, delegates, politicians, and volunteers.
However, the smaller councils and caucus meetings which take place
during the day at the Pennsylvania Convention Center are open to the
public.

How can I participate in the DNC?

• There are a number of fun Convention-related events happening around
town for the public, even if you’re not interested in politics. For more
information and a list of events, go to www.phldnc.com.
What if I have questions that aren’t answered here?

• We encourage you to first go to
www.phila.gov/democraticnationalconvention. If your questions aren’t
answered there, you can always call 3-1-1 for non-emergencies. The week
of the Convention, 311 will have extended hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Justin Bieber Disses NJ Girl, Then Heads To Borgata To Blow Off Steam

Justin Bieber Disses NJ Girl, Then Heads To Borgata To Blow Off Steam
Bad Timing: “I probably don’t want that shit” Justin Bieber admonishes a fan who tried to gift him with a hat onstage as he was getting into the zone talking about what his tour “Purpose” meant. He then slightly apologized saying “it was a bit mean, but you got me out of the zone.” Then he picked up where he left off and well watch it here:

I spoke to the mom of Miranda Brody, (17) of Short Hills NJ

7-16-2016 10-32-11 PM (Custom)

who threw the hat up on stage for the Biebs to enjoy. It was created by Miranda, founder of the BEANBACK, it’s a hybrid beanie and baseball cap, it’s a chill hat for chill people. She just wanted to give him a gift so she threw it onstage hoping he would put it on and he dissed her. She is still a belieber.

BeanBack attacks Justin

A video posted by Miranda Brody (@bean_back) on

The concert went on as she enjoyed her stage side spot looking on as the BEANBACKspent a good amount of time at his feet.

Bieber

As this was going on I was at the Borgata participating in Cabot’s Bad Beat Celebrity Poker Game for SJ Food Bank. It just so happens we were playing in the exclusive gated room so none of the big buck players could get in there. Around Midnight someone walked up to me and said Justin Bieber is playing poker near the bathroom. Really I just left the bathroom, I missed him.

Bieber

Now I have to apologize for the quality of the photos, the Biebs has a bunch of security guards around him. I knew I would be blocked and maybe kicked out if I whipped out my camera, and I was there for charity. In addition it was impossible to get close to him with the cell phone as guards were chasing people away. But I did get fun shots and a fun story.

biebs

The normally quiet poker room was abuzz with excitement, or as I instagramed Justin Bieber playing poker at Borgata Atlantic City, driving grown men to gasp and gawk.

Bieber

He literally plopped down at a random table and began to play. Justin was playing at this table because the charity game I was playing in was in the high stakes room, and it was a tournament and passed the time you could jump into the game. It was midnight, 8 hrs into play. I lasted 5 hrs.

this

These tables are empty as the tournament played here, and as people were eliminated they consolidated them into the high rollers room.

Bieber

At one point Justin jumped up and headed in the bathroom, no guards followed him in, just a regular guy doing his business.  Then he was out in a jiffy where a roadie handed him

Bieber

a red shirt to put on (far right). He literally took his pink shirt off and switched shirts. I was unable to get a decent shot of his new tattoo’s for you because this blond women was shirking in delight, swaying side to side, as grown men looked on and gawked.

Bieber

And then he strolled out, hitting up the new Borgata night club – The Premier.

Bieber

Then the poker players sat down, put on their sunglasses and earphones, and life returned to normal, where no one talked to each other and put their serious game face on.

Philly Style Mag Party on the scene Kijafa Vick, Arthur Kade, Erin Elmore,

The Philly Style Magazine Party is the party to attend. It’s really the must invite on everyone’s list, and although nearly 2000 attend, you have to be invited and that’s not always an easy get.

There was a lot of fashionable people who attended what some people call The Summer Prom and then there were those people who really stood out like Glass-U Founder & CEO Daniel E. Fine, wearing what I would have liked to have been wearing, shorts topped off by a blazer. Well done.

Mom’s Organic Market Update

Moms

This morning I got a behind the scenes tour of moms organic market on 11th St. between market and Chestnut. Otherwise known as East market development.

Moms

Today they are announcing a new tenant as well. National, award-winning architecture firm, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (BCJ) will lease 18,525 square feet of space at 34 South 11th Street. With offices across the country, BCJ will soon call East Market’s contemporary office building its Philadelphia home. The firm’s nationally renowned work includes the Liberty Bell Center on Independence Mall and U.S. flagship stores for Apple – such as the New York City Fifth Avenue cube.

Moms

Looking at East Market where parking and apartments will be located. This building should be done next summer.

Moms

When I came by for my tour I noticed that the building is nearly completed. You wouldn’t have any idea if you were looking from market Street side. Follow me on Instagram as I will have updates on the tour which I’m taking in about the next 10 minutes. And I will add to PhillyChitChat in an hour or so. Thanks.

Ideas For Table Settings for Diner en Blanc

Ideas For Table Settings for Diner en Blanc

Last month Diner en Blanc held their preview party at the Reading Terminal Market. It was there that guests got their first taste of the food, decor and atmosphere of what they’ll experience on August 18. There was also a display of nearly a dozen tables which competed for the best decorated. During Diner en Blanc, there is a similar table decorating contest, as well as a best dressed contest.table

Diner en Blanc Philadelphia returns on Thursday, August 18, 2016 to a secret location revealed just moments before the picnic begins. In honor of the event’s fifth anniversary, the très chic picnic will expand to 5,000 guests in 2016, tying New York City as the largest in America and one of the largest in the world.

table

Part mystery tour, part pop-up feast and part je ne sais quoi, Dîner en Blanc is a magical evening that celebrates and re-purposes public space. Bystanders will witness groups of guests all dressed in white gathering at specific rallying points all across the city. Guided by volunteers, these groups will then converge on a unique and unexpected setting, travelling by foot, bus and/or public transportation. Guests will bring their own gourmet feast, table, chairs and table setting. Over the course of the evening, they will eat and celebrate amid music, entertainment and dancing.

Diner en Blanc was brought to Philadelphia by co-hosts Natanya DiBona and Kayli Moran. Each year they coordinate the event with a team of volunteers which this year will top 160 (including the annual planning team, table leaders and on-site event support).

Past surprise locations for Dîner en Blanc Philadelphia have included 2012’s Logan Circle, 2013’s JFK Bridge, 2014’s Avenue of the Arts and 2015’s The Navy Yards, Marine Parade Grounds. Glee’s Chris Colfer, Wav Closed, Billy Joel Eats & Philly Gossip

Good Monday morning. I hope you had a great weekend. I did. I attended a family BBQ, which brings me such joy when I hang out with my sibs, were we tell stories of our youth – which crack me up. Then I headed down the shore for a dinner with friends, but first let’s chat about who’s coming to town this week

7-11-2016 8-55-49 AM (Custom)

Glee’s Chris Colfer is stumping for Her: Cocktails with Colfer: Celebrate Hillary with Golden Globe Award-winning actor and #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Chris Colfer . How fun I thought, NBD, but then when I tweeted about it, it got 28 re-tweets. I guess people really like them both, alot. Tickets are quite reasonable at $20.16 for students and $45 for young adults.

Chris

Speaking of young friends, Saturday I attended a dinner fundraiser with the members of the Young Friends of The Academy of Music who enjoyed their inaugural summer dinner down the Shore this past weekend. Many thanks to Ventura’s Greenhouse for the amazing good and festivities and those who joined to raise a glass to the ongoing restoration and preservation of our “Grand Old Lady of Locust Street!” It was really delicious.

Chris

The Claridge Hotel hosted me, and the room was so adorable. It was the type of room I love, with it’s two chairs and desk. I like to read late into the night and I like chairs. The hotel doesn’t have a casino, so I had to make a donation to Bally’s next door. Willy Wonka let me down this week.

Chris

Oh another let down, Wav nightclub on the Playground Pier seems to have closed.  The Atlantic City Press wrote a story about it, but says it might not be a done deal and they were going through a management change. I checked their website and FB and it’s down and out.

7-11-2016 10-00-17 AM

The Playground Pier itself seems to be chugging along. There are a lot of high end stores, as well as great restaurants with views like this. Mike and I had lunch at our fav, Continental. I had the most delicious salad with chicken for only $16. I’d like to see the pier become mostly restaurants, a few stores and a great disco where Wav once was. It’s really a great spot.

Chris

But the club did do double duty on Saturday as they hosted NeNe Leakes, who put on her own brand of comedy. Atlantic City’s Whitney Ullman was on hand to report it. Later in the evening she was at Harrah’s Pool interviewing Amber Rose, who has a new TV show on VH1. Amber as you know is from Philly, and stopped by Saturday afternoon to visit friends as well as stopped by Steve’s Cheesesteak for lunch.

Chris

Ahhh my favorite smoothie place closed, Raindrop Cafe at 19th and Market. Readers tell me a Panera Bread is opening in it’s place. OK I’ll take that, they have great salads.

Chris

UPDATE: Speaking of eating in Philly, members Billy Joel’s band had dinner at D’Angelo’s on Friday night. Saturday he played to a sold out crowd at Citizen Bank Park.

Chris

Daryl Hall & John Oates put on a great show at BB&T (Camden waterfront stadium). Friday night Darryl Hall also picked D’Angelo’s as a dinner spot. No word on if he and Billy Joel chatted.

Chris

Holy smokes

Chris

Friday Marilyn Russell, Kory Aversa and I will be participating in the Cabot Cheese’s Bad Beat on Hunger Poker Tournament to benefit the Community Foodbank of NJ. Entry fee is only $300, and it’s for charity.

Chris

Jackpot: Congrats to Eric Blumenfeld and Laura Cordaro on their engagement. Someone asked me why I didn’t include it in my round up but I didn’t know. So if you know someone who got engaged, got married, had a baby or something you think Philly would want to know send it along to Buzz @ PhillyChitChat.com

Chris

Congrats to Matt Pantaleno, formerly a cameraman for NBC10, has now landed a plum job NBC New York. Matt’s wife is our beloved 6ABC’s Alicia Vitarelli. The happily married couple are originally from the New York area, so smiles all around.

FYE Music Store in Philly To Close

For the past decade, brick and mortar record stores have been shuttering up and down the coast because of the growing popularity of digital music (heck even I finally stopped by CDs when I got my IPhone at Christmas), there’s also competition from big-box stores, and the internet stores.

FYE

I was surprised when the last occupant of the southwest corner of Broad and Chestnut Street, Tower Records closed, that a FYE record store took it’s place. Now after about a decade of occupying the spot, FYE is closing.

FYE

I spoke with a representative there today and the last day for the store to be operating is August 31, 2016. Right now you can save 20% to 50% off merchandise. Also on July 24 at 2PM Moose Blood will be doing an in store concert, meet & greet.

Host Committee Volunteers to be Gifted Tickets to XPoNential Music Festival;

Promotional Social Media Contests Provides Philadelphians a Chance to Win Free Passes to XPoNential Music Festival

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention today announced a partnership with Live Nation that will award Host Committee volunteers and social media followers with free tickets to Live Nation’s XPoNential Music Festival, headlined by Ryan Adams, Alabama Shakes and Brandi Carlile. The festival will take place July 22-24, the weekend leading into the Democratic National Convention, at BB&T Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey.

“As a thank you to our nearly 20,000 registered volunteers, we are thrilled to offer them free passes to this music festival, which will be a great way for them to celebrate the start of Convention Week,” said Kevin Washo, Executive Director of the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee. “It is important to us that Philadelphians get a chance to participate in Convention fun around town, which is why we are also creating this social media contest to encourage them to show off their knowledge of their city and win passes to this fun, local music event. We’re grateful to Live Nation for partnering with us to provide these special entertainment opportunities for volunteers and Philadelphians alike.”

Starting today, the Host Committee will hold a promotional contest on social media, posting photos of Philadelphia locations featured in Philly-based songs and films on its Facebook and Instagram channels. Each of the featured landmarks have made a cameo in a well-known film or song, and participants will have to name that tune or movie for a chance to win a free day pass to the three-day music festival.

Followers of the Host Committee’s Facebook and Instagram channels should submit their answer in the comments of each post in the promotional series and ten winners with the correct answer will be randomly selected from each clue. Winners will receive a code that unlocks their tickets to the XPoNential Music Festival.

Additionally, as a thank to its volunteers, the Host Committee will gift tickets to the music festival to all of its volunteers, which they would be able to use to attend the festival before the Convention begins on July 25th.

“We’re really proud to support the Host Committee with tickets to the XPoNential Music Festival 2016. This is truly one of our favorite weekends of the year – and we’re excited to invite people visiting for the DNC,” said Jim Sutcliffe with Live Nation.

The photos for the social media content series were shot by Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee staff photographer Nick Sisofo and will appear on the following social channels starting today:

The Democratic National Convention will take place July 25-28, 2016 in Philadelphia.
