Simply Divine Lorraine Hotel – Photos of the Groundbreaking, Pop-up and the Lobby – Philly is twice as nice, for half the price says William Procida

Yesterday I attended the groundbreaking of the long anticipated revival of the grande dame of North Broad Street, The Divine Lorraine Hotel (699 N. Broad St.). Over the years there have been many stops and go projects slated with the building that has fascinated so many in Philadelphia. It’s one of the finest example of  a Victorian style building in Philly, next to the Bellevue Hyatt, but what sets this apart is it stands tall and alone on North Broad, which really magnifies it’s greatness.

The beginning of something wonderful happened yesterday as the developers, dignitaries and fans of the Divine Lorraine gathered to break ground on the $44 million redevelopment project with plans to develop nearly 120 apartments, and 20,000 sq feet of retail space.

Funding for the project came from Procida Funding Advisors, the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority, the state, Philadelphia Industrial Development Corp. and the City Philadelphia.

The event was MC’d by Alan Greenberger the Executive Director of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission, who for all his years in city office has had a photo of the Divine Lorraine hanging in his office. No one is happier than he is to see this building come back to life.
Many notables were in the crowd like Sam Sherman, head of the historic committee, dead center in this photo. BTW he spearheaded the new gateway at East Passyunk last week, check out the photos HERE
Mayor Nutter told stories of being in the neighborhood as a kid and seeing the grand Divine Lorraine, the first integration hotel in Philadelphia.

Darrell Clarke,  President of City Council and represents the 5th Council District which includes North Central Philadelphia, Strawberry Mansion, was glad he wouldn’t have to call Greenberger on the phone every week and ask him “what are you doing about the Divine Lorraine? There’s new graffiti on the building, and it’s not even spelled right.”

William Procida, President, Procida Funding and Advisors told an amusing story of how he was in town (for a Dead concert)  (Which Reminds me of this song)  and drove by the Divine Lorraine. He too was drawn in by it’s beauty and sought out to bring it to life again. In his research he found that developer Eric Blumenfeld, EB Realty Management, who was in the midst of trying to get a redevelopement project off the ground for the building.  At the end of his chat Procida claimed, NYC better watch out,” Philly is twice as nice, for half the price.”

Alan Greenberger, Darrell Clarke, Eric Blumenfeld, Mayor Nutter, William Procida and Nydia Rotson, Governor Tom Wolf’s office.

Mayor Nutter gets a tour of the lobby of the Lorraine Divine, where in the last 16 years has become a mecca for street artists, photographers and urban explorers.

Through out the lobby there were photos of the bygone era of the hotel

I’ve said it before, no other mayor and city planner in the history of Philadelphia has done more for developing Philadelphia than Mayor Nutter and Alan Greenberger. He’s list of accomplishments in this area has far surpassed that of City Planner Ed Bacon’s era.

The Divine Lorraine Pop Up Store in the lobby.  According to the NY Times “a local businessman, Najeeb Sheikh, produced a line of merchandise
including towels, bathrobes and shampoo bottles imprinted with Divine
Lorraine logos, and sold them all in a one-day sale at a store in
downtown Philadelphia.” Blumenfeld heard about the sale and loved the idea. Najeeb Sheikh produced a second line including the coffee cups you see here, and shirts in the background, to sell inside the lobby.

Nearly 1000 people waited in line yesterday to see the long closed to to the public lobby and to buy merchandise from the pop-up store. The reason for the line, L&I would only let 30 people in at a time.

Hello any ghosts?
A friend of Father Devine tells a reporter about

Father Jealous Divine (here with his wife Mother Devine), an African-American spiritual leader who bought the property in 1948 and converted it to a the integrated hotel, as Greenberger and his right hand man, Luke Butler look on.

Tyra Banks Is Living A FabLife and she wants you to Live it Too. She was in town last week and took #Selfies with the press

Last week Tyra Banks swept into town to promote the new magazine show she produces and stars on, called the FabLife which debuts today at 2PM on 6abc. She promises it’ll be different than anything you’ve seen on TV, and she has a team of co-hosts which will help her bring it.

At the press junket, I was joined by an esteemed panel of journalists and friends. We were all invited to interview the fabulous Tyra Banks and one of her co-hosts Lauren Makk at a round table (that’s what it’s called), interview which would be about 15 minutes long. The ladies were much more generous with their time and even posed for selfies with each of us. At the Round Table: Bryan Buttler, Philly mag, Kristin Detterline, Philly Style Mag, Jenny DeHuff, Philly Daily News and Money Love, Boom 107.9 Philly who in a past life hung with Tyra Banks and they had a very lively fun conversation.

Tyra got into the FabLife stylist mode and created a new ‘do for Jenny DeHuff. On today’s show there’s a fabulous make over of an unsuspecting waitress, and it is fabulous.
Tyra will be joined by four lifestyle experts  who represent different areas of expertise. Chrissy Teigen, the model and “Lip Sync Battle” host has a huge social media following and is married to sexy singer John Legend (Love her, and him. He wrote “All of Me” for her.) , will serve as “FABLife’s” culinary expert; Joe Zee, who currently holds the post of Yahoo Style’s editor in-chief, is the show’s resident fashionista; interior designer Lauren Makk brings home design to the table; and do-it-yourself YouTube star Leah Ashley is ready to introduce digitally savvy audiences to DIY projects.
 Bryan Buttler Philly Mag
Boom 107.9 Mony Love with Tyra Banks and Lauren Makks. Check out Mony Love’s piece on Tyra and Lauren’s favorite Throwback Songs listed HERE.
Lauren Makks with Kristin Detterline, Editor Philly Magazine
Lauren used to live in Fairmount a few years back. She loves the arts, the outdoor sculptures and the people of Philly. It’s truly the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection she told us.
Tyra is an expert at the #Selfie. I’m looking forward to the show, not only because it’s going to be informative, but the ladies got on so well together, laughing and sharing stories of a life of friendship. In fact Lauren did the interior design for Tyra Banks’ house. I asked two questions, of course I asked Lauren about her weight loss since I’m so obsessed with mine. She told me she had the bypass surgery in 2002, but of course it’s still a struggle today. She’ll share with us those stories of the struggle, and at some points the panel join together for the different segments. We can look forward to Chrissy cooking up healthy meals that Lauren suggests.

Tyra told me that the show was going to be taped a few days before airing. I do love live shows, but with a taped show it’s easy to edit enhancements, photos and other tidbits that were discussed during the taping, especially showing a make over or room decor. Tune into 6abc today and check out the FabLife, I’ve already set up the DVR so I don’t miss a minute.
Today’s show is a real tear jerker make over. I love this show. So fun!!
Check out the interview 6abc’s Alicia Vitarelli did with Tyra and Lauren.

Del Frisco’s Opens It’s Doors

Every year Del Frisco’s Center City opens it’s doors and welcomes event planners and PR peeps to showcase what they can offer your event. I’ve been to many events at Del Frisco and was surprised at how many spaces with in the popular steakhouse there was available for rent for intimate as well as gigantic gatherings.

Richie Furino, DM of Del Frisco’s and Carly Kursman, CBS RADIO, SportsRadio 94 WIP
Joann Pieretti, JP Tours, Jessica Kiefer, Del Frisco Event Planners, and  Kelly-Anyn McKay, i720media – Event Support Services

Sweet setting
 Amy Hanby
Les Richards, LR2 Clothing at the Shops of Liberty Place and Lloyd Z. Remick, Managing Partner, The Law Office of Lloyd Zane Remick
The 2nd floor dining area is equipped for a sit down dinner as well as a buffet.
Vera Masi and Maritza Rivera both of R2L and Carri Tovsky, Global Tour Connection, LLC, Independent contractor/Meetings & Events. Sometimes when one event space can’t handle an event whether they are booked or their venue isn’t large enough, they might recommend another space to their client. That’s why R2L was in the house checking out the space.
Britney Stafford, Administrative Assistant at Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group, Carmen Tedesco, GM Del Frisco and Rebecca Sollosi, ‎server at Del Friscos Double Eagle Steak House
 Jenna, Kristin and Abby
The Vault at Del Frisco’s is a great place to hold a party. I’ve seen a big supper awards program happen in this room, all the way to the After Party of Zarwin Baum, with a dance floor, dj and a couple hundred people.

Del Frisco’s might be a long time advertiser on Philly Chit Chat, but it’s also one of my favorite places to go in Philly. It’s really like Cheers, or going to your hometown bar on Thanksgiving Eve. You’re always going to see someone there who’s going to put a big smile on your face. More than likely you’re also going to see a sports favorite or celebrity enjoying dinner. Get the Philly Cheesesteak Dumplings too.
Antwaan Taylor, A to Z Party Rental and Noel Zayas, Zayas Events
Becca C, with the twins Jen and Dana Fioravanti, maîtres d’ at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse, are always at the door lighting up the room with their smiles.

Real Estate: 2706 Lloyd Lane Norristown, PA 19403 – I took the Photos.

I’ve always been in love with architecture, the structure of buildings, houses and curious how people decorate their houses. Recently a Realtor,  Michelle Leonard  Century 21 Advantage Gold-Southampton, hired me to photograph interiors of a home she is representing at 2706 Lloyd Lane Norristown, PA 19403.

I was excited one because of everything I said above, and also I just bought a new very wide angle lens and it’s perfect for interior shooting. This is an adorable house. Very large and spacious inside.

The family that is selling it raised their family here and have lived here for over 20 years.
But now that the kids are out of the house in college and in careers of their own they want to go on an adventure and explore living in a different area of the country.
Check out this yard, it’s huge. They held two weddings for family members back here. The house holds a lot of memories for them.
I love this cute gazebo they built
Back inside I found a lot of functional rooms like the laundry room with washer and dryer
The wife has a very successful custom drapery business and used part of the basement as her home office
The Grand Foyer, who doesn’t love a staircase like this
Ceiling Fans in Family Room and all Bedrooms.
  $485,000 4 Beds  |  2.5 Baths  |  2,755 Sq. Ft.
There’s an open house this Sunday September 13, 2015

Being a view person, I love this view, The backyard is immense, the gazebo with friends and family enjoying themselves.
The Times of Your Life could be had here. Check out Michelle’s listing

Scenes from #MadeInAmerica Philly’s Burning Man but much better cause we had #BEYONCE

Saturday (Sept. 5) kicked off the 4th Annual Budweiser “Made in America” music
festival. The Jay-Z and Steve Stout founded and curated event on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, this past weekend, and for nearly 10 hours each day
attendees were entertained by various performances from hip hop,
R&B, rock, pop and EDM artists.

It was a huge success, it sold out after the headliners were listed but before the schedule was announced. Here’s a shot of the festival grounds during the Meek Mill set at 630PM Saturday Night

As is with the Burning Man Festival (which is a gathering of colorful people to enjoy music and be one with the earth, every last week of “summer”  in the dessert of Black Rock City),

Made In America attracts an equally colorful audience to gathered to enjoy musical acts from headliners, to up and coming headliners to shaking our heads liners.

The Rocky stage this year was still an inspiration of the flag, but there was no commercialism attached to it, no Budweiser or Made In America logos as was in years gone by.

This year’s line up was interesting too, lots of rappers on the main stages, singing lyrics that you don’t want your kids to be singing.
I can understand one song maybe, but song after song of mutha fu*king bitch, is really lame. Ok that being said the festival was great. Laid out very nicely again, every year they tweak it a little more and it just gets better/ There were lots of things to do, it’s a safe atmosphere, there’s officials every where looking for hot spots, and although I did see a few people get blasted most folks were there to just have a good time with friends and enjoy it.
Vic Mensa performed for the crowd on the Rocky Stage. Later that night he was spotted on South Street enjoying a cheese steak. In the background is my condo building. The powers to be there had the city inspector out checking out the decibals on our front driveway, for the most part it was below 85 all day long. I know hard to believe but the organizers worked with the neighborhood and made sure the speakers faced inward.
There was a lot of love going around

The weather was perfect this year, but without significant rain for awhile the grounds became downright dusty, but no one seemed to mind and adjusted to the dust storm

Wearing handkerchiefs to cover their mouths and noses

These Bud viewing platforms were new this year and you could see 3 different stages from this vantage point, Liberty Stage, Rocky Stage and the new Tidal Stage. Freedom Stage was where the EDM acts were and a bit on the side near Park Town Apartments.
Fabulous was fabulous. Philly’s Kevin Hart introduced him via video and he did a set with Philly rapper Freeway. It’s great to see so many Philly singers presented at MIA

The food this year was outstanding, and varied. Prices for reasonable with my meals under $10.
The Parkway was also lined with food trucks. Mama’s Ball’s sold over 2000 sandwiches. Cow and Curd did well too. There were smiles all around at the end of the night.
I also saw the Empire bus there. Fans of the show auditioned for a chance to sing on the show. You can also enter online
Throughout the weekend I saw kids collecting cans and bottles for recycling and swag from the Budweiser store.
Did I mention the love at the festival?

Nick Jonas delivered to his fans. The night before he ate at Parc restaurant on Rittenhouse Square, first table to the left of the door, outside on the sidewalk enjoying a late night dinner. As Beyonce and JayZ celebrated Bey’s birthday at Barclay Prime about 10PM.
Beyonce getting into her Mercedes limo at the Rittenhouse Hotel about 7PM Friday night. She headed to the MIA grounds for a sound check as JayZ and Blue Ivy headed to Tulala’s Garden for dinner with grandmom carter.
The cause tents at MIA festival. Proceeds from the concert went to the local United Way. Thanks to them they allowed me to hand out tickets for the concert to 4 of my readers.

Beyonce and her dancers make their way down the Art Museum Stairs from their dressing rooms.
The stairs made famous and nicknamed The Rocky Stairs will now be christened Queen Bey Stairs. (Note Queen Bey’s black Mercedes Limo is at the top of the photo.)

No photographers were allowed in the pit to shoot Beyonce as she always just has her house photographer. Her set was sexy, sensual and about women empowerment.
She sang many of her current hits from 7/11
I love the Beyonce style of dancing. She’s just amazing.
Watch Jay Z and Nick Jonas rock out to Beyonce. You can see Bradley Cooper’s white Eagles hat too
Sadly there wasn’t too many ladies on the bill this year, it’s mind bongling that JayZ protege Rihanna has never appeared at Made In America. But we did have a few fabulous gals like Santigold, who looked adorable on stage
Marian Hill performed on the Skate Stage is an American songwriting duo from Philadelphia, made up of production expert Jeremy Lloyd and vocalist Samantha Gongol, debuting in 2013 with their first EP ‘Play’. In 2015, they released the album ‘Sway’.
There was plenty of water available for guests, but unfortunately not for the folks who were front row for hours on end to watch their fav singer from well the hot as hell front row. By night time people were passing out left and right. When your in that crowd, even half way back, it can be a bitch to work your way out of that situation. So many times people would pass out and the crowd would just lift their bodies and carry them forward as if they were crowd surfing. It was kinda emotional to see. So I don’t think it is ever a good suggestion to wait in the front row, plus you’ll miss the festival.
