Weekend Update: Fairmount Arts & Culture Day, Clark Maloney’s Memorial & Get Christy Love

Another packed weekend with lots of stops, and I am so behind in everything. So I’m going to do a little wrap up of the weekend here with info you might be interested in.

Thanks Replica Creative for having an exhibit of my #Selfie work on your walls on Friday. So fun seeing them printed. Thanks to my friends who stopped by…You guys have to see how this decal photo thing looks like. It’s great. Easy on, and easy off. Easy storage.

Saturday was the Fairmount Arts & Culture Day in the neighborhood. It was a nice turnout for their first time. Lots of local business’ took part in the day as well as civic organizations.

Here comes the mascot for Recycle Philly. Check out all the updates going on in the neighborhood HERE!

Saturday night is was nice to see a lot of friends and celebrate a very Happy Birthday
Get Christie Love. Nice gathering with a few friends, and lots of good looking relatives of the Honigman’s. It runs in the family.
Sunday I headed to Morgan’s Pier and Clark Maloney‘s Memorial Gathering.

A very nice crowd came out to reminisce about Clark, who passed away suddenly last month.

His brother, sister and other relatives were on hand as well as organizers Angela and Gary Thorpe.
Plenty of friends, bosses, partners and roommates.

 Rocking Matching Rock Lobster shirts.

On my way back to my car, which was parked about a mile away cause so much was happening on the river Sunday, I stopped by River Rink at Penns Landing. What a gorgeous place, lots of families, food, drink, beer garden, chairs, rockers, picnic tables, and wheelchair accessible. Highly recomended.
Monday night I went to the launch/award recognition of a new blog called Philly Happenings. I’ll write more about this event later in the week with party photos. For me it’s time for bed as the storms roll in. Wait one last thing…

Stop by Potito’s Bakery next week and pick up a delicious cannoli
for National Cannoli Day on June 16! They have locations at Juniper and Walnut, 16th and Ritner and in Fairmount just off Spring Garden on 19th Street.

Engagements, An #Eagles Player Wedding, Kimmels & Sniders witness History, More Eagles News and Drew Carballo Returns

Over the weekend a few fun things popped up on Social Media filling us in on happy occasions of or friends…

Congrats to Jaimi Rubin Gordon on her engagement to Ron Blackburn. Maybe
a Loews wedding will be in the cars as that is who Jaimi does PR for…

Congrats to Dutch and Jenn on their engagement

Congrats to my cousin Kim’s new grandbaby

Philly was on hand to witness history, as Ed and Lin Snider and Caroline and Sidney Kimmel enjoyed the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.

Saturday was also Philadelphia Eagles player Trent Cole’s wedding to long time love Paige Bell

These rings are everything. WOW gorgeous. After going thru Trent’s SM I see he’s a serious hunter. He’s from Ohio
Here’s their Wedding Registry, which is really quite ordinary.

As is Brent Celek (r), who is photobombing this shot from Elizabeth Dee Herremans with her new husband Todd Herremans. Lots of photos can be found under #ColeWedding on Instagram. The wedding was held at Phoenixville Foundry and had a country western theme. The bride wore cowboy boots.

2015 has been a blitz for weddings for the Eagles. Brent Celek was married earlier this year. BTW CTO 5th Avenue played at the #ColeWedding and well they advertise with me and that’s why there here.

Jon Dorenbos went all Hollywood recently and attended the #SpyTheMovie premiere in NYC last week.

Do Gooder Eagles Player Connor Barwin, invests in the City more than any other sports player I know of in modern times. He does this through money, and more importantly through time. He is involved in so many civic causes, everytime I turn around he’s there, or lending his name whether it’s saving parks, creating murals, supporting the Rail Park or taking part in the Monumental Lab, which was a public art and urban research project taking place at City Hall in Spring 2015, and just ended on Saturday. Here he is with my BFF in my head Tracy Buchholz.

Welcome Back Drew Carballo, back where you belong at Del Frisco’s with your bud Carmen Tedesco, GM Del Frisco’s.

Photos: Phillies MLB Urban Youth Academy Baseball Field in FDR Park with Ryan Howard

Major League Baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies and the City of Philadelphia officially opened the Phillies MLB Urban Youth Academy during a special ceremony Thursday at the Academy’s brand-new
baseball field at Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Park in South Philadelphia.

The Phillies
MLB Urban Youth Academy will be the only existing multi-site Urban
Youth Academy, with both outdoor and indoor facilities to provide free,
year-round instruction to the more than 8,000 Phillies Reviving
Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) players in Philadelphia:
·
The outdoor location is at FDR Park, featuring a four-field facility that includes a brand-new baseball show field equipped with new bleacher seating for 450 spectators, dugouts, a scoreboard
and a press box.  This is in addition to the existing Ashburn Baseball Field and two girls’ softball fields.
·
Indoor facilities will be at the Marian Anderson Recreation Center (740 South 17th
Street in Philadelphia).  Construction will begin this summer for the
indoor portion, where
a 7,500 square-foot addition will be added to the existing facility to
create a new baseball and softball training center.  Also, parts of the
Marian Anderson Recreation Center will be renovated to create adequate
space for fitness training as well as educational
and baseball vocational programs.

·
The overall project is supported by MLB, the Phillies, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF), the City of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

I pondered this question to authorities and my readers, with no satisfaction. How did the Panda become the official mascot of the Parks and Recreation Department?
 The field is beautiful!!

There were treats for the guests, pretzels, popcorn and water.
“The partnership of Major League Baseball and the Phillies
with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation provides enriching new
opportunities
for youth throughout the city,” said Michael DiBerardinis, Deputy Mayor
for Environmental and Community Resources.  “The City of Philadelphia
is fully committed to this collective effort of providing participants
with the skills and experiences that prepare
them for success both on and off the playing field.”

Future Sensations – The Inspiration is Found Outside the Exhibit

Happy 350th Anniversary Saint-Gobain, a French company that manufactures building materials, and has its North American headquarters in Valley Forge . By the time you leave the exhibit #FutureSensation, you will know it’s their 350th anniversary, see some of what they manufacture and their name. How many of us knew any of that before this exhibit came to Philly, the only USA stop for what is certainly a work of art, a once in a lifetime exhibit, and certainly a very commercial one as Inga Saffron wrote in her piece last Sunday in the Philadelphia Inquire.

But I found, that even though the Future Sensations exhibit does promote and demonstrate what the company makes and creates, it was worth the trip cause it’s beautiful inside and out.
Especially with friends; and that is exactly what I found last night when
I went, Lots and lots of friends enjoying each others company, an air of anticipation hanging over the The Oval to see the exhibit.
Most of the people I talked to said they had a good time, and the exhibits were ok. Not what they expected, but interesting, and they had a good time with their friends.
It was a selfie orgy.
I personally liked the revolving exhibit. It was simple and harmless, much like a fun house.
Did I mention the lines. Even though people had obviously gone through all the exhibits, and they know this last one is the 15 minute commercial, the lines were long.
The exhibits themselves were great to photograph. Lots of lights, and movement, with the City as a backdrop. Just spectacular. Go at at night. During the day, the lines will be shorter, but at night the crowd is on and alive.
Each exhibit has a sign outside of it and it’s pretty clear what’s inside. I do want to stress if you’re prone to migraines, this is not the place for you. There’s a lot of strobing lights.
The exhibits are safe and fun for the kids.
I loved the atmosphere surrounding the exhibit. So many people, chatter, #selfies, and photos of taking place, and then there was Tom Carroll and Laura Clarke
practicing Acro Yoga among the exhibits
I’m not promising you that these two will be on hand on the night you go, but it’s this kind of energy creativity, and inspiration that the Future Sensations exhibit is created.
This was another fun exhibit that shows what Saint-Gobain can do with light.
Tomorrow night at Replica Creative 33 S 18th St, Philadelphia, PA 19103, I’ll be showing photos from my year long #Selfie project, where I took photos of people taking selfies of themselves. It’s at 6PM, stop by. Thanks

The Oval’s Beer Garden is open during the exhibition too.

Party Pics: STAMP (Students at Museums in Philly) Party at the Barnes Museum with Chill Moody

STAMP (Students at Museums in Philly)  allowes students to get to know the museums. A party was held at the Barnes recently to
help change teens’ perception of museums as places they’re not welcome,
or somewhere you only go if you’re told you have to, like on a field
trip. A program of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, STAMP is
opened to students ages 14 – 19. The program is opened to any
Philadelphia high school student, and is valid for one year of FREE
admission to 15 of the city’s top museums and attractions. All you have
to do is apply to http://phillystamppass.org/

Tonight Chill will be at the opening party of Brick and Mortar which is also a fundraiser for the Rail Park.

Now halfway into its second year, STAMP continues to introduce a
generation of future cultural stewards to what the city has to offer
while also helping fill in the educational gaps left by lack of school
funding, said Nicole Allen, alliance director of policy and community
engagement.
The program’s initial goal was to sign up 1,000
teenagers in the first year. It hit that mark after the first month, she
said – more than 11,000 students enrolled during the 2013-14 school
year. About 100 teenagers sign up each week, bringing the total of STAMP
pass holders this year to 16,000.
That group, Allen said, “looks
like Philadelphia” – about 64 percent of pass holders are of African
American or Latino heritage. About half of those who use STAMP passes
come from disadvantaged backgrounds or neighborhoods with low cultural
participation.
“They don’t come from households where art and culture are priorities, but they’re using the passes,” she said.

Party Pixs: Brow Bar White Party at Deneen Marcel Lashes

To kick off the summer and their new fabulous Brow Bar, Deneen Marcel Lashes celebrated with a fabulous party where the attire was as hot as the lashes…

The Deneen Marcel Team. For the past few years Philly has really embraced the full eye lash market, at first me being me I didn’t even realize that people were using the extended eyelashes, til I met my gal Maria who filled me in. Now I do look around and notice them. A lot of times when I am somewhat familar with a person, I ask them. I’m curious about it, I’m curious if it hurts putting on, coming off, if people, besides me every asks, and they don’t, just me. Anyway I ask them if the go to Deneen Marcel Lashes, as it’s really the only place I’m familiar with, and they do.
