ReCap: Tea Sandwiches, Boutique Shopping and a Passport to Fashion You’ll Want To See – The Career Wardrobe Tea Party

The Career Wardrobe held it’s annual tea and fashion show at the Bellevue last week. It’s a wonderful new tradition that I photograph every year. Who doesn’t love tea sandwiches, and a lunch time fashion show. Best of all it’s all for a good cause, to empower women entering the workforce. The Career Wardrobe helps women feel confident
when entering the workforce and takes the worry away about fitting in with
their counterparts who might not have had the stumbling blocks they have.

 6ABC’s Nydia Han was fashion
show emcee where over 200 women and their daughters attended, with a smattering
of men joining in the fun.  The event
included a fashion show, lunch with tea sandwiches, and this year they had boutique shopping of
all of the fashions that hit the runway; a portion of the sales benefited
Career Wardrobe.

Light The Night Walk Fireworks over the Schuylkill & Links to Party Pictures

Hey, hope you had a great weekend. So many great things happen and crazy too. Did you read Philly Jesus was arrested for accepting tips at Love Park after posing for photos with people.

That’s just bizarre as the police seem to turn a blind eye to homeless people soliciting money, the guys who aggressively bother the tourist at the Rocky Statue, which I’ve tweeted about before, and last week I saw a guy manhandle a tourist for money, while skate boarders zoomed around us. The best part though, Philly Jesus had someone take a photo of his arrest.  On Wednesday I will have a links to the media outlets which carried my work last week and over the weekend. Thanks for your patience as I try and catch up.

 Light The Night Walk on
Sunday, November 9th at Eakins Oval at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Walk should begin approximately 5:00 p.m.
Over 7,000 people attended.

Walkers will carry illuminated lanterns of different colors during the leisurely 2 miles walk.
White lanterns are carried by survivors, red for supporters, and gold
in memory of loved ones. Funds raised from the Walk will support
the Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and
myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their
families.

Cancer is Ugly! Ugly Sweater Party on December 20th at City Tap House (One Logan Square)

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) will be announcing the high school students who will be participating in
the inaugural Student of the Year fundraising competition on Thursday, November 20th at the
IKEA Store (400 Alan Wood Road) in Conshohocken from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Twelve local high school students will participate in the campaign and raise funds for seven weeks to benefit LLS’s mission:
to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and to
improve the quality of life of patients
and their families. The campaign will kickoff January 5, 2015 and will
conclude at the Grand Finale Celebration on February 21, 2015 at the
Four Seasons, where the winner will be announced. The winner will
receive a
$2,500 scholarship to the college or university of his or her choice.

Check out Philly Mag for Young Friends of Fuel the Cure and the PAFA Gala. Both events had peeps decked out to the nines.

WMMR’s Preston and Steve Show Receives The PPRA 2014 Gold Medal Award

Yesterday WMMR’s Preston and Steve Show was honored by the Philadelphia Public Relations Association with the Gold Medal recipient, and more notable PR people and media people attended than I can recall in modern history.

Preston, Steve, Kathy, Casey, Nick, and Marisa are all responsible for
not only raising awareness for the city’s Philabundance program with
their yearly Camp Out for Hunger, but also shedding light on the dire
need for blood donations in S.E.P.A. with their annual blood drive.

(Preston & Steve’s Camp Out For Hunger starts December 1st, in the parking lot of XFINITY Live! at the Sports Complex in South Philly, collecting desperatley needed non-perishable foods for Philabundance.
Donations accepted Mon-Thurs 6a-9p; Fri 6a-11a. Address: 1100 Pattison Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19148)
They
also make our weekday mornings bearable with their hilarious and unique
style of talk radio!

Casey Boy, Jeff Jubelirer,  Cecily Tynan, Susan Buehler, Matt O’Donnell and Guest
Kanra Magnatta and daughter Marisa Magnatta.
Lisette Bralow, PPRA President, welcomes the guests.

I loved the table center pieces.

The PPRA is made up of PR professionals who represent clients, business’ and events. They promote the good of Philly, business’, people, events that we read about every day. It’s a great organization to belong to to network and connect with like minded people. I’ve spoken on panels and attended networking events of the organization.

Jeff Jubelirer, Bonnie Squires and Dan Cirucci.
Kanra Magnatta, Danielle Cohn, and Christina Cassidy
 Robert Irvine

Pierre Robert pays tribute to the morning crew. He’s rocking the coolest glasses.
Marc Summers called his friend Mike Jerrick, Fox29’s Good Day up to do a Q&A with Claude Giroux. Missed the part where Marc can’t pronounce Giroux’s name, and I can totally relate as I once did that on my segment on Fox 29, and twice Mike had to correct me on the air.
A little shaky for the first 20 seconds, then I figured it out.
Philly Bloco,(appearing at World Live Cafe on New Year’s Eve)
Preston banging out the drums with
Philly Bloco, Brazillian Music got the room shaking their body including Daniel Cohn, who just announced her new job at Comcast supporting entrepreneurs, startups and innovation throughout Philadelphia and the country. Congrats girl.

#Beer: Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter, tea-infused, Oatmeal Stout, Who Serves this Craft Beer? Joe Sixpack & THE PMA Craft Beer Event

The 38th annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show opened Thursday, November 6 and ran through Sunday, November 9. The craft show is the largest single fundraiser for the Philadelphia Museum of Art and has donated more than $11 million dollars to the Museum. These funds provide financial support for educational programs, special exhibits, conservation projects, the acquisition of craft objects for exhibitions, and more. During the 4 day event they have several special events including a handcrafted beer tasting event on Friday night curated by Don Russell (aka Joe Sixpack).

Don Russell (aka Joe Sixpack), Daily News columnist, curated a collection of local brews that cannot be found together anywhere in the city. Participating brewers were Broken Goblet, Conshohocken Brewing Company, Evil Genius Beer Company, Neshaminy Creek Brewing and Saint Benjamin Brewing Company.
Trevor Hayward, owner of Evil Genius says there are no boundaries with craft beers these days, it’s all about experimentation; this is proven by their choice brews Friday night, Purple Monkey Dishwasher Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter and Turtle Power Pale Ale.
Mike LaCourture, Broken Goblet.
After starting as a homebrewers club, they opened a full scale brewery and tap
room in spring 2014. They have a began-compliant beers that are tea-infused
including the evenings choices of Bubba’s Tea Bag and Yin Yang Oatmeal Stout.

Tim Patton, Christina Burris, of St. Benjamin’s Brewing Co. with Mike Altamro (server) operate their three-barrel nano-brewery in May in a former carriage house. They served Liaison Saison, a refreshing Belgian style ale brewed with lavender, which was a favorite among some of the guests.
Buzzy LeCluyse and Megan LeCluyse enjoyed the smooth tasted of Neshamminy Creek’s The Neshaminator, a German Style whet bock brewed with orange blossom honey.

Ellen Caplan, Brian Kelley (Young Friends of The Art Museum) and Gwen Goodwill Bianchi.

Ann Marie Felker and Jon Snyder enjoyed the two Evil Genius
beers.

Jennifer Huttenberger and William Merritt.

Robert Padulo, Katherine Padulo and Louis Padulo.

Scott Clendaniel and Maria Bennett, from Anchorage, AK, have
traveled the US in Clendaniel’s endeavor to paint a beer a day for his project “Year
of Beer.” Friday (day 313) he painted at Yard’s Brewery. He chronicles it all
on his blog http://realartisbetter.wordpress.com/

Don “Joe Six Pack” Russell, chats with Kyle Park from Neshaminy
Creek about Trauger Pilsner, who he had pick as his 2012 Beer of the Year. Park
also brought with him The Neshaminator, a German-style wheat bock brewed with
orange blossom honey.

William B. Read, Alex Lipschutz, Leah Rosenblum, Adrian Jackson, and Susan Read (she loved the Evil Genius’ Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter.)
Jason and Lydia Amodea. He liked the Pilsner and she loved the Yin Yang Oatmeat Stout by Broken Goblet. They were both fond of the Liason Saison by Saint Benjamin, which was a refreshing Belgian-style ale brewed with lavender.
Benjamin and Michele Blazer like the two what they called brunch
beers as they are light; Neshaminy Green Tea Beer and Evil Genius’ Turtle Power
Pale Ale.

Nancy O’Meara, ‎Director and Craft Show Manager at Women’s
Committee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Ellen Caplan, 2015 Chair of the
Philadelphia Museum Craft Show.

Don Russell and Mrs. Joe Sixpack – Theresa Conroy.
Julia Rogers and Stephanie Lee, took a break from their shopping at the craft show to enjoy a few beers. Their favorite, the oatmeal tasting Turtle Power from Evil Genius.

Conshohocken Brewing Company’s co-owner Ken Buonocore, have a 15-barrel brew house along the Schuylkill River Trail. The menu of the small restaurant serves chilli, soups, grill cheese and pulled pork sandwiches.
Debbie and Paul Kelly taste what Broken Goblet has to offer.

A good time was had by all.

Bar Menu and My Dinner at City Tap House Logan Square

I had such a huge response on Instagram and Facebook to my meal last Monday night at the new City Tap House Logan Square, I thought I would published the photos here. The menu is eclectic with foods that we normally eat. They’re just prepared in a gourmet chef way.

Here’s the Bar Menu which just came out yesterday. The full menu is below.

Cheese & Charcuterie – always a good back up when you don’t know exactly what to eat but are hungry.
Korean Short Rib Tacos, pickled cabbage slaw, cilantro and chilli suace $12 – delicious!
Really good, made with 20 spices, including brown sugar.
OMG Pulled Pork Nacho Chips. I also loved the Blue Claw Mac & Cheese which I had on opening night.
Check out the photos here at the Phila Business Journal.
I love this gigantic TV. It can show one game or 12. There are also TV’s along the back wall.

Rosie Perez, Whoppi Goldberg and Liev Schrieber dine, Ryan Howard’s A Dad, Buddy Valastro The Cake Boss Opens

Celebrities and Philebrities were out and about this past weekend in Philly, as well as Philly folks running into celebrities elsewhere.

 Happy Birthday Patty Jackson.
Oh how it would have been great to celebrate with Patty again this year, but I headed over to former radio hostess’ Shamara  #HiFriend’s bday party. It was bitter sweet too as she, Laiya St Clair, Quincy Harris and a few of their co-workers were let go when Hot 107.7 changed formats. I wanted to be there for support and give her the love she deserves. It was a great party with lots of folks out celebrating. I’ll have a blog entry at another time to show you all the fun. I did have a photo in the Phila Daily News yesterday, with surprise guest boxer Danny Garcia, along with DJ Casper, Kim Derstine, owner of “Fire and Ice” ,  and John Armstrong at Shamara’s birthday party held Friday
night at Fire and Ice in Old City.

#Fox29Weekend’s  Lauren Johnson stops by Devon with her mom and grandmom last week.

Buddy Valastro The Cake Boss opens Carlo’s Bakery in Marlton, NJ.
Congrats to the Andrew Jackson School for being the beneficiary of the largess of The Olitsky Foundation to the tune of Five Hundred Thousand Dollars.
Who knew this would be a gigantic story, Adam Joseph takes a leave from 6ABC to take care of his and partner Karl’s son Jacob for 3 months. Paternity Leave, that 6ABC is progressive.

Frankie and Pete caught up with the Landers sisters of Dallas fame, at a Bar Mitzvah in NYC.
It’s Raining Men Martha Wash was in town over the weekend at the Hyatt Penns Landing, where the ever thinning Geno Vento ran into her and snapped this photo.

Philadelphia Eagles Player Jon Dorenbos got his teammates to do the happy face stamp to support adoptions. (certainly much warmer than the ice buck challenged.)

OK he’s gonna be a dad this week. I had no idea Krystal was expecting, then I ran into a few people at parties this week who told me they are over the moon. This shot was taken at the Rollin event in May, and Krystal was nearly 3 months along here. They’re one of my favorite couples. Congratulations!!
This is their new house in Florida, near Clearwater. It’s on the Gulf Coast.
Saturday night the Sporting Club held their sculpting body event. I was so crazy covering 3 other events I didn’t make it, but everyone looked great  and had a good time.
Love this shot of Sheinelle Jones with one of the twins. She’s getting much needed family time with her new gig at The Today Show on the Weekend. Let’s hope she stays out of Tamron Hall’s way, I hear that girl is created a wicked mess of bodies in her wake as she climbs her way to the top.
Down the shore, Savor Borgata was going on. Lots of good chefs whipping up delicious foods. My favorite chef Michael Schulson and Chef Kevin Yanga (Izakaya), were on hand. I’ll be down next week for dinner as Kory and I are going on one of our notable jaunts to AC.

The Sergey Kovalev v Bernard Hopkins fight attracted a lot of star power to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ on Saturday night, including Rosie Perez and Whoppi Goldberg as well as Liev Schrieber. I heard the three of them had dinner Saturday night at the Continental at the former Caesar’s Pier and now owned by Bart Blatstein.
Last week I read this cool tidbit about Lieve Schrieber and his kids.
Last night Bernard Hopkins was back training in the gym.
