Philly Gossip: M Night Shyamlan, Harvey Keitel, The Q Show, Burgers & Bowl

Good Sunday Morning, yes Sunday. I have been thinking for a bit to add a Sunday column cause I have too much content to fit in 5 days, plus Sunday’s are always good days to catch up on Gossip so when you have Brunch, or dinner with the family you can say did you see so and so got married, pregnant, had a kid or saw Harvey Keitel walkind down the street in Old City.

9-17-2016-11-37-21-am

Friday night I went to Revolutions at Penn Treaty. I toured it Friday, then they told me that that evening would be there “soft opening”, so I went back with Mike. Revolutions is a hip, bowling venue with spots around the county, but here in Philly they’ve partnered with an eatery called Burger & Beers. It’s the prototype, and if successful they’ll roll it out in their next openings. Mike and I really enjoyed our meals (especially my fried pickles and Hotel California Burger) and next time plan to bowl. It’s going to be a huge success. It’s like Dave & Busters, but with bowling, burgers and beer. It’s right next to Punchline and The Fillmore, and across the street from Sugarhouse.

9-17-2016-9-47-00-am-custom

That same evening The Fillmore had a great act Young The Giant, and the place was packed. My high school friend Jacquie Winner was there, and so was M Night Shyamlan, who stopped for a photo for Rebekah Marine, “The Bionic Model”. She just walked in a few NYFW shows.

M Night

Harvey Keitel and wife Daphna Kastner were spotted in Old City by talk show host Quincy Harris last week. Seems Harvey and Daphna were just enjoying the day in our fair City.

hd1_4013-custom

Last Monday was the debut of The Q Show on Fox 29, hosted by Quincy Harris. He knocked it out of the park, as I knew he would. Ever since I had meant him about 4 years ago when he left radio as QDeezy, and headed to the airways, I could see that he had a certain flair about him and the way he engaged with people.

hd1_3962-custom

Plus the dude has the most incredible Rolodex. Kicking off the show with him last week – The Roots’ Black Thought and Questlove. It doesn’t get any better than that. Tune into The Q Show Monday through Friday NOON on Fox 29. Or Tape it like I do. It’s 30 minutes of fun.

M Night

Congrats are in order for the new Mr. & Mrs. Jason Cichonski (Tara Kulesza and Jason Cichonski) who were married Friday night.  Chef Jason Cichonski of Ela, The Gaslight and former Top Chef contestant. The couple met through mutual friend Ryan Dorsey, the co-owner of Old City’s Recess Lounge, at a birthday party Dorsey held at Ela where Tara was a guest. M Night 9-17-2016-11-22-15-am

Dish of the Week

Last week I had dinner at the new eatery Lou Bird’s at 20th and Lombard. The food is delicious, and the deserts divine. I even met the namesake of the restaurant – Lou Bird, who’s the precocious 10 year old of Norris and Debbie Jordan of the Happy Rooster, who also own Lou Bird’s. Lou Bird told me her favorite dish was  American Wagyu Strip Fingerling potatoes, brussels sprouts, kim-chimi, which I will definitely get on a return visit. I had the Rainbow Trout, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

M NightInfo and Tickets for Philly Fashion Week HERE

People are always asking me what events they should attend, sooo starting Wednesday I’m going list 5 – 7 events I think you should attend.  I used to have a calendar on PhillyChitChat, but it was too tedious to keep up. This might work as well. I’ll title the columns #PCCBuzz 7 Events of Interest or something like that.

PHOTOS: Dr J’s Erving “Black Tie” Ball at the Sofitel w/Shaquille O’Neal

Hall of Fame Basketball forward Julius ‘Dr. J’ Erving hosted a three day charity event in support of The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia.  At “The Julius Erving Golf Classic,” Erving welcomed celebrities, golfers and fellow athletes for a very special weekend which raised money and awareness for The Salvation Army.

Dr J

The weekend began with the Erving Youth Basketball Clinic at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center in partnership with The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia. The Salvation Army has a special place in Erving’s heart, as he was first given the opportunity to play on their team in Hempstead, NY in the early 1960’s, providing him the opportunity to compete and achieve at a young age. I covered the 3rd annual Erving Ball at the Sofitel Hotel Sunday night in Center City.

I’ve photographed all of the Dr J events and this was definitely one of the best run. I liked how the Cashman & Assoc. gals strolled across the red carpet with the names of notable people, cause even though they are important in their field, we photographers don’t always know who they are or how to spell their names. hd1_3664-custom

PHL17 Departures, Chase Lenfest, Mark Voci, Bethenny Frankel Everywhere

Hello, it’s Thursday. The week is almost over. I was so busy this week I didn’t do my normal, or what I’m trying to do normal, Monday gossip/tidbit column. Things are busy, my sister needed some time off so I’m scrambling to do both our jobs. It’ll work out, but if you’re a client and I haven’t posted your event yet, whether here or some where else, know it’s being taken care of and will pop up soon. Also if you’re a client your photos are coming back soon, but feel free to drop me a line. Same thing for the invoices. Those are terribly behind, that’s always bad, but I want to get everything published before I take care of myself. Anyway here’s some fun scoop for you.

WB17 says goodbye:

Good luck to David Grzybowski, yesterday was his last day at PHL17 Eye Opener. I was thrilled to be interviewed by him about Made in America 2 weeks ago. He’s off to another plum assignment, which he will announce very soon.  Francesca Ruscio who left PHL17 last month, she’s now on NBC10 doing back up traffic reporter.

A few answers from his FB Friends:

Ana Lewis As long as pitch better then 50cent,you’ll be ok hun!!!

Bill O’Brien You’re a trip. Here’s what you do, go to your Doctor now and get Rx for Provigil. It’s what Fighter pilots use for super concentration. Then because of the current clown scare across the country you dress up as a clown. Then you ask if you can take your best shot. And they’ll say yes. So you do an overexaggerated wind up and keep doing that as you run towards the catcher. Then you leap in the air like Michael Jordon and slam the ball in the catcher’s mit. He’ll say ” what was that” and being a clown you say ” a slam dunk, my best shot”. After all this you’ll be on ESPN top plays of the week, the clown crisis will be resolved and you’ll sign a long term contract with Ringley to help pay ur rent.

Voci

On a sad note, Mark Voci passed away on Sept. 9, 2016 of Havertown formerly of SW Phila. after a long battle with brain cancer. Mark created “Style Me Hired Makeover”, a philanthropic organization that helped women transition from unemployment to employment by giving them makeovers, working with Career Wardrobe and providing them with an outfit for interviews, and connecting them with professionals to help them with their resumes as well as interviewing on the spot with top companies in the area. It was amazing how he put his heart and soul into this project to change lives. He was amazing. Two years ago he was diagnosed with debilitating brain cancer. I’m at a loss for words for this tragedy, but what an amazing legacy he left behind. Bless you Mark and the Voci family. Here’s my coverage on one of the years I was there, I covered it for about three years being introduced to him by Garden Wellington. STYLE ME HIRED

Scenes from The Hillary Clinton Rally with President Obama

Yesterday Philadelphia, specifically the Art Museum area, once again took center stage as President Obama came to rally the voters for Hillary Clinton for President.

Obama

Being a people person photographer I was excited to photograph and observe the scene. Most of you know I live across the street from this spot. First thing I observed was how quickly Made In America cleaned up their festival this year. I was wondering what the motivation was when they worked 24hr shifts last week to break down and clean up.

Obama

It was interesting that they choose to put the stage this way with with the podium facing to my left, towards the crowd and if you look the press riser. I was on another press riser, one which I thought had a superior view with the Art Museum, since I am a Philadelphia afterall. But oddly his back ground, was

hd1_4502-customthis, which is super cool, but it was also

hd1_4503-custom

a background like thishd1_4106-custom

I’m not the expert, but I would have done it this way. I’m sure they had their reasons, wish I knew why. How awesome is this view?hd1_4104-custom

Check out those Obama family shopping bags. They were selling them for $5. On the other side was the entire family.hd1_4180-custom

He’s here. He pulled up into this tent, then walked down a series of white tents to the stage. Although there was some grip and grin shots taking inside the tent “backstage”.

Casey, Gov. Wolf, U.S. Rep. Bob Brady and two statewide Democratic candidates, Senate candidate Katie McGinty and attorney general candidate Josh Shapiro. (He had endorsed both in the state’s April primaries).      Of McGinty, Obama said, “this is a special woman, she’s going to do a great job.” (Pool Reporter – Jonathan Tamari The Philadelphia Inquirer)

THE PRESIDENT:  Hillary!  (Applause.)      Now, in election season, you will often hear crazy stuff.  But I’ve got to say, this year we’ve been hearing a little more crazy than usual.  (Laughter.)  Having said that, after almost two terms as your President, I am here to tell you I am more optimistic about our future than I’ve ever been.  (Applause.)  Because I’ve seen an America that, for all the challenges, for all the noise of the politics, still has the capacity to come together and do great things.      You think about it.  We fought our way back from the worst recession in 80 years.  We turned around a declining economy.  We helped our auto industry set new records.  Our businesses created 15 million new jobs.  Slashed our dependence on foreign oil.  Doubled our production of clean energy.  Made marriage equality a reality in all 50 states.  (Applause.)

hd1_4501-custom

We brought more of our troops home to their families.  We delivered justice to Osama bin Laden.  (Applause.)  Through diplomacy rather than war, we shut down Iran’s nuclear program, opened up a new chapter with the people of Cuba, brought nearly 200 nations together around a climate agreement that could save this planet for our kids and our grandkids.  That’s what we’ve done.  (Applause.)     By so many measures, America is stronger and more prosperous than when we started out on this journey together.  In fact, some of you may have saw there was a new report out just today showing that last year, across every age, every race in America, incomes rose and the poverty rate fell.  (Applause.)  In fact, the typical household income of Americans rose by $2,800, which is the single biggest one-year increase on record.  (Applause.)  We lifted 3.5 million people out of poverty.  That’s the largest one-year drop in poverty since 1968.  (Applause.)  The uninsured rate is the lowest it has been since they kept record.  The pay gap between men and women shrank to the lowest level ever.  (Applause.)

Obama

AUDIENCE MEMBER:  Gas is two dollars!

THE PRESIDENT:  And gas is two dollars a gallon.  I didn’t even — thank you for reminding me.  (Laughter.)  Thanks, Obama.  (Laughter and applause.)  Yes.  So the steps that we have been taking over these years, they’re paying off.  We’ve shown that progress is possible.

hd1_4627-custom

I need you to work as hard for Hillary as you did for me.  (Applause.)  I need you to knock on doors.  I need you to make phone calls.  You’ve got to talk to your friends, including your Republican friends.  You need to go to IWillVote.com and register to vote by October 11th.  Then you’ve got to go to the polls and you’ve got to get people to go to the polls.  (Applause.)  And if you’re willing to do that with me, we’ll win in November.  We’ll elect Hillary Clinton the next President of the United States.  (Applause.)  We will continue on this journey to create a better America and a fairer America, a more just America, a more loving America, a brighter America.  (Applause.)

That’s what we’re fighting for.  That’s why I need you.  Let’s get busy.  Let’s get to work.  (Applause.)

Thank you, Philadelphia.  God bless you.  God bless the United States of America.  (Applause.)

President Barack Obama is attending a Hillary Victory Fund (HVF) event today in PA.   *   The HVF is a joint fundraising committee between HFA, the DNC and state parties across the country that was established to ensure the DNC and state parties across the country have the resources they need to help the Democrats up and down the ballot win in November.   *   Funds raised through the HVF are now being used to fund and staff organizing programs in states across the country that will register voters, recruit volunteers and organize Democrats to turn out and support candidates up and down the ballot. The coordinated campaigns are being run by the DNC and state parties and will coordinate with local, state and federal Democratic campaigns to work to elect progressives across the country.

Be a Happy Traveler and plan your next vacation in Pennsylvania

Be a Happy Traveler and plan your next vacation to Pennsylvania

As long time readers of PhillyChitChat you know I love, love, love exploring Pennsylvania. I try and do 2 or 3 trips to towns I’ve never been to each year, as well as revisiting others that I enjoy.Happy

For the trip I just took to Wilkes -Barre, Scranton, Allentown and Bethlehem, I initially researched online to find fun things to do and see, but as soon as I passed a rest stop I grabbed the Visit Pa guide for a much more detailed explanation of places to go.

happy

You don’t have to wait til you get to a rest stop to enjoy the Official Tourism Guide of The State of Pennsylvania. You can download it right here.

happy

After you click the link you will see the cover, and a cute video promoting visiting Pennsylvania. Click on the arrow down, which you see in this photo, and the guide will download. Then save it to use until next year’s guide comes out in the Spring.

happy

It’s fall and the birds are migrating. The handy bird-watching guide in Pennsylvania is on page 26

happy

Also a great visit in the fall is Western Pennsylvania. Mike and I went there about 2 years ago to see the Elk migrate, yes Pennsylvania has Elk. So beautiful, and the drive there is equally beautiful. You’ll find info on Page 40 and other great sites in the Pennsylvania Wilds.  We stopped at the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, and the leaves were just turning color in early October. It was a treat.

happy

Each section of notable places to visit in Pennsylvania are highlighted by area. On page 57 you’ll see events in the Philadelphia area, from The Kennett Square Festival, which was just this weekend to the Strawberry Festival coming up next Spring in Peddler’s Village.

happy

Then there’s a section on National Treasures located in Pennsylvania. I love having access to the guide on my computer as it’s handy at anytime. Plus I can print it out and mark up the pages as I please and still provide a clean copy for Mike to check out. He hates getting the dog eared version.

Be a Happy Traveler and plan your next vacation to Pennsylvania. Whether you are looking for family fun, outdoor adventure or just a relaxing weekend getaway, Pennsylvania has it all.

Guest speaker Chris Matthews, a Philadelphia native, chatted about the metamorphosis Philly has undergone starting with Rendell through today. Philly has become a world class city. It was a great chat and he had the audience in stitches with his antidotes peppered with Philly sports teams references, especially his beloved Phillies, which got me thinking maybe that’s why his show is called – Hardball.

Chris Matthews did chat politics for a bit, telling the crowd, he’s know Trump for years, and only in the past 12 months had he ever heard a racist comment, you never really know a person. He’s a regular guy, last year they debated on why didn’t Zoolander 2 become as big of hit as Zoolander. Trump’s favorite movie. As for Hillary she’s a girly girl, but it doesn’t come across to the public as she puts on her armor. She’s smart, classy, and very friendly. I wish the American people were able to see the relaxed Hillary Clinton.

Philadelphia Naked Bike Ride 2016 Fashion, Fun & OMG’s

Philadelphia Naked Bike Ride 2016 Fashion, Fun & OMG’s

Photos from the 2016 Philly Naked Bike Ride.  The ride is meant to highlight body positivity and bring awareness towards fuel consumption. It was held Saturday, September 10 throughout downtown Philadelphia starting near the Art Museum, swinging by City Hall, down Chestnut Street passed Independence Hall, up Market Street to JFK into West Philly, down Chestnut Street to 19th, around Rittenhouse Square, down Locust to South Street and several after parties. I photographed them at 4 locations and at each one their was a healthy crowd there to cheer them on. Did I mention they had a police escort, yes they did. People always ask me did anyone get arrested, no.

Ultimately, one of the goals of the Philly Naked Bike Ride is to desexualize nudity and to encourage everyone to embrace nudity as a normal, enjoyable way of life. Following this policy will help further this goal and teach all of us how to be better people in general. naked

I purposely didn’t publish and very overtly naked folks. You might ask how did I determine that…

PhillyGossip: Bethenny Frankel Appearance, Erin Elmore, Francesca Ruscio

PhillyGossip: Bethenny Frankel Appearance, Erin Elmore, Francesca Ruscio and more ChitChat

Good Friday morning. So much news, chitchat and new happening in Center City you’ll find it here on PhillyChitChat every Monday and Friday.

Frankel

I’m glad summer isn’t over yet, but I realized after last weeks 80s, I really like my summer at that temperature. The Social Season started last night. I hit two events. Those columns will be popping up in Philly Mag and Philly Biz Journal, hopefully. I say that as each outlets have editors that approve columns based on a fit and timing, do they have enough time to publish it. Some of the best events happen on Thursday, but it’s also serious crunch time. If a column doesn’t get published on a Friday, Monday may be too late. In this day and age of the internet, news happens every minute. OK on with today’s news.

King of Prussia Mall is hosting a very special private shopping event September 25th in celebration of the opening of our expansion and to benefit Abramson Cancer Center.
Bethenny Frankel will be our special guest, demonstrating Skinnygirl beverage pairings with signature items from our new restaurants. The event is from 6:00-9:00 PM in the new connector and will feature a DJ, fashion vignettes, sampling, register-to-win promos, beauty bars and much, much more. All of our new stores will be open and hosting fun in-store events and promotions. Tickets are $50. We invite you to join us and thank you in advance for anything you can do to share this and help us promote the event with your friends, associates and family.bethenny-custom

Bethenny returned to the RHONY  last season, and again emerged as the most popular, or at least the most in the public’s eye.  That’s not plastic surgery that changed her looks, it’s botox.

Another brunette reality star, Erin Elmore, who was fired by Donald Trump on the Apprentice nearly a decade ago, went to work for the RNC as their deputy secretary earlier this summer, and is now one of the campaign’s surrogate media spokespeople appearing on news outlets proclaiming why he would make a great president.
