A non-profit founded in 2002, Professional Women’s Roundtable’s (PWR) mission is to provide networking, leadership, educational and personal growth opportunities to a diverse group of women in business in the Greater Philadelphia region.

Tuesday night they held a panel on “Overcoming Obstacles” at Pennovation Center for Innovation and Research,

which featured many entrepreneur women from our area  including Yasmine Mustafa (co-founder and CEO of ROAR for Good, a company that makes wearable technology aimed at diminishing attacks against women), Mary Dougherty,  is the owner of two Nicole Miller stores in our area as well s MKDA a Philadelphia Marketing, Public Relations, Consulting firm based in Philadelphia with over 30 years of experience, Dixieanne James, Vice President Strategic Planning and Business Development at Einstein Healthcare Network; Nora Cothren, ‎Academic Coordinator at Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation; Tiffany Tavarez, Corporate Contributions Manager at PECO, and Kristen Bakalar, DisruptHR Philly pictured above;

Parx Casino in Bucks County, recently announced a planned expansion of $50 million that will incorporate a new 1 500-seat concert hall to be called the Xcite Centre, a new poker room and two new restaurants.  It is believed that 200 full-time jobs will be created.  The completion date is planned for the winter 2017-2018 season. The 45 000 square feet building will be built, providing a new location for the poker room as well as a specific VIP poker enclave. Lombardi’s, the New York pizza restaurant is opening a second location at Parx and the other restaurant will a Liberty Bell Gastropub which claims to be offering a fresh, farm produce approach.

Parx Casino CEO Tony Ricci excitedly tells the gathered guests about the new eateries, the new poker room and the new Excite Center with live entertainment.

Ricci told the crowd that the Liberty Bell Gastropub will be an upscale farm-to-fork eatery with “an exciting atmosphere,” Ricci said.

The Liberty Bell Gastropub will be the second restaurant to open in Parx Casino® as part of this property extension. It will have a fresh farm-to-fork approach with locally sourced menu items incorporating grass-fed Pennsylvania beef, Pennsylvania premium reserve pork, free range chicken, locally grown produce, Pennsylvania cave aged cheeses and more. This eatery will also feature a unique custom Rotisserie bar, boasting two Rotisol Rotisseries – the world’s leading, most efficient and beautiful Rotisserie innovator – perfectly slow-roasting an array of meats around a bar area with ample seating. Guests of the Liberty Bell Gastropub are sure to enjoy the unique menu, especially the lavish gourmet prime burger, as well as the intimate live performance space where they can be entertained during their dining experience.

Lombardi’s, America’s first pizzeria from the streets of Little Italy, has chosen Parx Casino® as its second location. The Manhattan-based legendary eatery will offer their delicious award-winning New York style pizza and classic Italian dishes, including Chicken Parmesan and Spaghettoni with homemade meatballs. The main dining room of this beautiful European style restaurant will have seating for 130 patrons and guests will also have the option to dine at the custom built marble bar adjacent to the main dining room. The Lombardi’s bar menu will be accentuated by a robust wine collection, with premium wines imported from Italy and Europe, all available by the glass.

Parx Poker® – which rivals the best poker rooms in the country – will move into its new home inside the main casino building during this development venture. The new poker room will have beautifully appointed high-end finishes, 22 high definition TVs and will offer a premier VIP poker enclave. Red Poke Bowl Opens on South Street, David Morse Helps Out at Whole Foods,

Good Sunday afternoon indeed. Congrats to all the Broad Street Runners, what a great day for a run. I’m a little tardy getting Philly Gossip up today, I overslept, really I went to bed at Ten and woke up at Noon. But I have some hot news that just can’t wait another day so I’m posting it now….

Susan Souffie recounts on her FB page: So I’m grocery shopping and (as usual) can’t reach an item on the top shelf and ask this very tall man walking briskly towards me “Hey, can I borrow your height?” (Works every time, my fellow shorties). He obliges and as he’s handing me the tea I realize – he’s famous! AND I love his movies and (of course) can’t think of his name!!! All I can blurt out is “Oh my god… I love your work!” He looks altogether scared and relieved that THAT was it, says “Thanks!” and continues down the aisle.

I noticed at Easter that OCF had vacated the space at 2nd and South, and that Red Poke was moving in. So busy I forgot to write about it, but yesterday
when I was photographing the South Street Maifest I saw that they were up and running, with quite a crowd.

I think Red Poke is going to make it at this seemed curse spot. In just 5 years it’s been an ice cream shop, OCF Coffee Shop and now Red Poke

What is Red Poke bowl?

Poke bowl is a dish that is vibrant, fresh and trendy. It originated in Hawaii, dating as far back as the first Hawaiians that set foot on the island. It emerged around 1970s when fishermen in Hawaii used simple recipes to create hearty snacks. Poke (pronunced poh-kay) in Hawaiian means “to cut crosswise into pieces,” essentially it is a fish salad which resembles a burrito bowl but with a sushi twist to it. So imagine all of your favorite sushi ingredients in one bowl… YUM! The dish commonly consists of fish and rice and served as cooked and raw, hot and cold all in one bowl.

Across the street from Red Poke at the former Abbott Square, which is now called Headhouse Flats, an art installation has been installed at rumored to be  Bfresh supermarket. Previously the windows stated Garden of Eden would open.

AMBERELLAXO X SOUTH ST FEST

Team Derek caught up with Hal Holbrook this week. At first I thought it was Elaine Stritch, but you know she passed away a few years ago. He does look amazing for 92 years old though. He was in town to perform in his one man show- Hal Holbrook: Mark Twain Tonight at the Merriam Theater. The actor also played Deep Throat in All the President’s Men and won an Oscar nomination for his performance in Into the Wild. For years he was married to Dixie Carter, from Designing Women. Sad to hear they divorced a few years back.

Congrats to CBS3’s Rahel Solomon for completing the Broad Street Run today.

Congrats to Camden NJ resident Haason Reddick who was drafter to the Arizona Cardinals last week. He was looking dapper in his Commonwealth Proper threads.
