Info: Walk For Suicide Awareness and Prevention October 2 at Phila Art Museum

Thousands Walk to Prevent Suicide  ***  2016 Philadelphia Out of the Darkness Community Walk  Benefiting American Foundation for Suicide Prevention  Philadelphia, Pa., (September 21, 2016) –

The 12 th Annual Philadelphia Out of the  Darkness Community Walk takes place Sunday, October 2, 2015, at the Philadelphia  Museum of Art on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and  the walk begins at 9 a.m.  The Walk is hosted by the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the American Foundation  for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). More than $500,000 was raised in 2015. An expected  5,000 participants from across the Greater Philadelphia area will attend.  AFSP Philadelphia Board President Jan Evans announced that the AFSP  Philadelphia “Buck in a Bucket” Suicide Prevention Program will be launched at  the walk. “Buckets will be a vehicle for fundraising but more importantly – the risk  factors of suicide will be printed on the buckets for people to see and understand,”  Evans said. “Our fundraising focuses on delivering community based programs that  help eliminate the loss of life from suicide by delivering innovative prevention  programs and educating the public on the risk factors associated with suicide.”  It is estimated that each year, nearly 1 million Americans make a suicide attempt, more  than 38,000 die by suicide, and more than 20 million suffer from depression; which is a  precursor to suicide. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens and young  adults and the second leading cause of death for college students. Additionally, older  Americans over the age of 65 account for 16 percent of all suicide deaths.  To register for the walk, go to www.afsp.org/philadelphia.

I’m not gonna lie, where Bethenny goes drama follows, and there was a little drama during my shoot. A women came in with the cutest baby, as a seasoned celebrity photographer I can tell you that babies and celebs photos sell better than say men, or men over 50. I take a few shots, I know I have the money shot and I go to leave. Darn I wish I hadn’t lingered cause the PR person comes by and says I can’t publish the baby and the bottle photo. Skinnygirl has a rule that no one under 21 can be near/handle/be photographed with Skinnygirl ie liquor. Dang people, there goes my People cover.

Last week the folks behind Revolutions Bowling, Bar & Grille at 1009 Canal St. (Revolutions at Penn Treaty) (Next to The Fillmore, Punchline and across from Sugarhouse Casino), gave me a tour of their newly opened entertainment venue.  Revolutions at Penn Treaty is a 52,000 square-foot venue that is full of fun for everyone. The two-level complex features a 26-lane bowling experience including 12 private VIP lanes, along with a full service restaurant, courtesy of Burger & Beer Joint. The first floor features a 21-and-over “club within a club,” the first of its kind in the Revolutions family, with beverage specials courtesy of the Flair Bar bar-tending spectacle. Playground

Thursday night, September 15, 2016, Music Director Michael Krajewski and the Philly POPS orchestra returned to the Hyatt at the Bellevue for the Fourth Annual POPS Ball. Over 250 POPS supporters enjoyed a night of dinner and dancing to the full 65-piece POPS orchestra. The musicians of the orchestra donate their time for this colorful beginning to their season. The POPS Ball is the Philly POPS’ major fundraiser of the 2016/2017 season.

Ann Catania of Ten Pennies Florist created a décor scheme dedicated to the POPS season and Let’s Dance with dozens of miniature shoes placed throughout the room and blocks of colored tables tied to corresponding concerts in the POPS’ subscription series (Elvis, The Beatles, Broadway, Ella Fitzgerald  and The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Journey, and Christmas) with lucite chairs, vivid colors and themed props.

The Beatles table featured sunglasses similar to John Lennon‘s iconic pair, green accessories including linens, chair cushions and lighting all to match the green theme of the logo for the upcoming POPS show. A “King’s Table” centered in the Ballroom seated 14 with a stack of Elvis memorabilia, all in honor of the October 21-23 season opening POPS concert, ELVIS: The King’s Songbook.. Ann Catania’s signature floral designs included roses, orchids and calla lilies.

Newbold’s South Philly Sausage Fest Was Hotter Than Ever This Year

The weather is getting cooler, ok it’s supposed to be getting cooler, and the fall festivals are heating up. Last week were two major festivals – GreenFest on South Street last Sunday and The Sausage Fest on Passyunk above Broad Street last Saturday, September 10. I covered them both.

Mother Nature was anything but kind to us last Saturday as the temperatures hovered near 100F, but that didn’t stop the hundreds of sausage fans that turned out to enjoy delicious links, music, mingling and learn about the different community organizations that were on hand.

The Newbold Community Development Corporation (CDC) South Philly SausageFest is a food and craft beer festival raising funds for the Newbold CDC’s Street Cleaning Program. This was the 2nd Annual event, and it’s sponsored by AFC Doctors Express Urgent Care, 1444 W Passyunk Ave, Philadelphia,  (Which I have been to several times over the past 3 years for aches and pains, and they’re quick and easy.)

Good Sunday afternoon. I shoot about 5 – 10 events a week. Philly Gossip: M Night Shyamlan, Harvey Keitel, The Q Show, Burgers & Bowl

Good Sunday Morning, yes Sunday. I have been thinking for a bit to add a Sunday column cause I have too much content to fit in 5 days, plus Sunday’s are always good days to catch up on Gossip so when you have Brunch, or dinner with the family you can say did you see so and so got married, pregnant, had a kid or saw Harvey Keitel walkind down the street in Old City.

Friday night I went to Revolutions at Penn Treaty. I toured it Friday, then they told me that that evening would be there “soft opening”, so I went back with Mike. Revolutions is a hip, bowling venue with spots around the county, but here in Philly they’ve partnered with an eatery called Burger & Beers. It’s the prototype, and if successful they’ll roll it out in their next openings. Mike and I really enjoyed our meals (especially my fried pickles and Hotel California Burger) and next time plan to bowl. It’s going to be a huge success. It’s like Dave & Busters, but with bowling, burgers and beer. It’s right next to Punchline and The Fillmore, and across the street from Sugarhouse.

That same evening The Fillmore had a great act Young The Giant, and the place was packed. My high school friend Jacquie Winner was there, and so was M Night Shyamlan, who stopped for a photo for Rebekah Marine, “The Bionic Model”. She just walked in a few NYFW shows.

Harvey Keitel and wife Daphna Kastner were spotted in Old City by talk show host Quincy Harris last week. Seems Harvey and Daphna were just enjoying the day in our fair City.

Last Monday was the debut of The Q Show on Fox 29, hosted by Quincy Harris. He knocked it out of the park, as I knew he would. Ever since I had meant him about 4 years ago when he left radio as QDeezy, and headed to the airways, I could see that he had a certain flair about him and the way he engaged with people.

Plus the dude has the most incredible Rolodex. Kicking off the show with him last week – The Roots’ Black Thought and Questlove. It doesn’t get any better than that. Tune into The Q Show Monday through Friday NOON on Fox 29. Or Tape it like I do. It’s 30 minutes of fun.

Congrats are in order for the new Mr. & Mrs. Jason Cichonski (Tara Kulesza and Jason Cichonski) who were married Friday night.  Chef Jason Cichonski of Ela, The Gaslight and former Top Chef contestant. Last week I had dinner at the new eatery Lou Bird’s at 20th and Lombard. The food is delicious, and the deserts divine. I even met the namesake of the restaurant – Lou Bird, who’s the precocious 10 year old of Norris and Debbie Jordan of the Happy Rooster, who also own Lou Bird’s. Lou Bird told me her favorite dish was  American Wagyu Strip Fingerling potatoes, brussels sprouts, kim-chimi, which I will definitely get on a return visit. I had the Rainbow Trout, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Hall of Fame Basketball forward Julius ‘Dr. J’ Erving hosted a three day charity event in support of The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia.  At “The Julius Erving Golf Classic,” Erving welcomed celebrities, golfers and fellow athletes for a very special weekend which raised money and awareness for The Salvation Army.

The weekend began with the Erving Youth Basketball Clinic at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center in partnership with The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia. The Salvation Army has a special place in Erving’s heart, as he was first given the opportunity to play on their team in Hempstead, NY in the early 1960’s, providing him the opportunity to compete and achieve at a young age. I covered the 3rd annual Erving Ball at the Sofitel Hotel Sunday night in Center City.

Through the clinic, which Erving hosted with his daughter Jazmin, Founder and Executive Director of GRAB A BALL & PLAY Foundation, free basketballs were given to all 100+ kids in attendance. The Erving’s spent time with the children and provided coaching and feedback on the game.

PHL17 Departures, Chase Lenfest, Mark Voci, Bethenny Frankel Everywhere

Hello, it’s Thursday. The week is almost over. I was so busy this week I didn’t do my normal, or what I’m trying to do normal, Monday gossip/tidbit column. Things are busy, my sister needed some time off so I’m scrambling to do both our jobs. It’ll work out, but if you’re a client and I haven’t posted your event yet, whether here or some where else, know it’s being taken care of and will pop up soon. Also if you’re a client your photos are coming back soon, but feel free to drop me a line. Same thing for the invoices. Those are terribly behind, that’s always bad, but I want to get everything published before I take care of myself. Anyway here’s some fun scoop for you.

WB17 says goodbye:

Good luck to David Grzybowski, yesterday was his last day at PHL17 Eye Opener. I was thrilled to be interviewed by him about Made in America 2 weeks ago. He’s off to another plum assignment, which he will announce very soon.  Francesca Ruscio who left PHL17 last month, she’s now on NBC10 doing back up traffic reporter.

Say what? He’s so funny. Chase’s new hotel “The W” at 15th and Chestnut, is looking good. They have several floors up already.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) will host founder of Skinnygirl® Cocktails and “The Real Housewives of New York City” star Bethenny Frankel on Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. at the Fine Wine & Good Spirits Premium Collection Store at 1112 Chestnut St. in Philadelphia. Bethenny will meet with fans and sign purchased bottles from her Skinnygirl Cocktails line. There will also be samples of the stuff for those of age waiting in line.

She’s getting around cause you’ll remember last week I wrote that Bethenny Frankel will host interactive demonstrations showing attendees how to get creative with some of the tasty offerings from Savor King of Prussia restaurants on Sunday, September 25 6-9PM.  The demonstrations will be followed by a brief Q&A and autograph session with fans. King of Prussia is proud to match up to $25,000 of the evening sales to Abramson Cancer Center.

Philadelphia resident Angel Dejesus is the lucky winner of Santander’s Bank on Your Eagles Pride Sweepstakes. He receives a pair of tickets to every Eagles regular season home game this season. Dejesus kicked off the 2016 football season by enjoying the game in the Santander Field Club with his girlfriend Brenda Rivera and former Eagles cornerback Bobby Taylor at the Eagles’ season opener on Sunday. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Dejesus has been an avid Eagles fan his entire life. His photo entry for the contest featured him alongside his girlfriend and granddaughter decked out in Eagles gear. He plans to share the tickets with his girlfriend, Brenda Rivera, who told him about the contest and helped him submit his entry.

On a sad note, Mark Voci passed away on Sept. 9, 2016 of Havertown formerly of SW Phila. after a long battle with brain cancer. Mark created “Style Me Hired Makeover”, a philanthropic organization that helped women transition from unemployment to employment by giving them makeovers, working with Career Wardrobe and providing them with an outfit for interviews, and connecting them with professionals to help them with their resumes as well as interviewing on the spot with top companies in the area. It was amazing how he put his heart and soul into this project to change lives. He was amazing. Two years ago he was diagnosed with debilitating brain cancer. I’m at a loss for words for this tragedy, but what an amazing legacy he left behind. Bless you Mark and the Voci family.
