Party Pixs: TERROR BEHIND THE WALLS – EASTERN STATE PENITENTIARY

Saturday night after hitting the festivals, I headed over to the annual Terror Behind the Walls annual Media Party. It’s fun, great people and a scary walk through the prison.

I was so tired from shooting 3 events earlier in the day, that I didn’t go through the attraction yet, but you know every year I do, sometimes 2 or 3 times.

I hear it’s terifyingly great as usual.
The party is always fun, here are some of the zombies getting down.
Chris O’Connell, Fox 29 and his wife. (I kinda forgot my notepad that night.)

CBS folks – Melony Roy, guest and John McDevitt. You’d definitely recognize his voice from 1060
Former Miss  NJ Cara McCollum and Keith Jones, NBC a couple, yep!
Bridgid’s serving up some delicious treats

Three years strong: Brett Bertolino, Director of Operations at Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site, Inc and Andrew Morgan

Ian M Crumm hosts a Fashion Presentation and Phasion Phest – Catching up on Philly Fashion Week

OMG it’s October and Philadelphia fashion week/month overload is finished. There were a few fun events I went to that I never got to write up and I’m just going to do a brief overall of two events.

In mid September fashion expert Ian M Crumm hosted A Fashion Presentation
at the new Art Bar at the Sonesta
featuring Versatile & Sophisticated looks  by Melissa D’Agostino and Nicole Haddad’s Lobo Mau.

Randyl Case, Nicole Haddad (Lobo Mau) and Jeffrey Bussmann
Ian M Crumm wearing Lobo Mau and two models wearing fall fashions by Melissa D’Agostino
Phashion Phest celebrated it’s 21st anniversary in September. Created by Sharon Phillips Waxman, The SPW Productions Team
to showcase local retailers. Sharon was on the forefront of highlighting fashion and local retail in an public event, where consumers had a chance to see the latest fashion, and accessories at the same time.

The clothes shown at these events are unique and affordable for the average consumer.

In passed years Phashion Phest has been held on the waterfront in abandoned piers before the revitalization of the waterfront, one of my favorite spots was when it was held in the middle of the street under the Pennsylvania Convention Center under pass.

For the third year in a row the event was held at the Shops of Liberty Place. Twice it was in the rotunda, and this year it was held upstairs in the food court. It was a great space to have it. The fashion show featured a lot of our favorite shops including Knit Wit, Macy’s ellelauri, Express and Les Richards. Can’t wait to see what Sharon does next year.

Finally this will be history…

Our favorite grilled cheese sandwich place, MeltKraft is planning to open a 2nd location here at 17th and Chesnut Streets (46 S. 17th Street, next to my other fav sandwich place Jimmy John’s), across from Shops of Liberty Place. They currently have one at the Reading Terminal.

Meltkraft went before the art commission this morning to get their new sign approved. I have no idea how that CashWell sign every got approved I’ve always cringed when I saw it.

Michael Klein  Philly Insider Philly.com fills us in about the MeltKraft move and history.

BTW Destination Maternity is leaving Walnut Street and heading to the Shops of Liberty Place in the old Joan Shepp location.
Also going in at my old fav sushi place Miya is Chestnut Street Bagel (These guys also own South Street Bagel).
Nordstrom Rack has put the signs up.
They open on 10/24/14
Forever 21 is going between Nordstrom Rack and Sephora. Sephora told me they’re excited, even though Forever 21 sells make-up, “it’s not the same” a sales person told me.

Red Bull Curates – Canvas Cooler Project 2014 – Philadelphia

Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project hosted an energy-packed gallery event at Arch
Enemy Arts
 in Philly last
night, Thursday , September 25th, to a packed crowd of partygoers who
came to view the coolers that were customized by 20 different
established and emerging artists from the Philly area.

Handpicked and curated by Arts Fund, the artists included street artist Kid Hazo,
painter/sketcher Dessie Jackson, neo-pop painter Thomas Buildmore,
and portrait artist Caryn Kunkle.  All were tasked earlier in the week to transform blank, canvas wrapped Red Bull
coolers into pieces of art that were inspired by their own style.

A roster of local Philly artists and critics, such as artist Gabe
Tiberino
and his father James Tiberino, a famed visual artist in his own right, street art aficionado RJ Rushmore, the co-founders
of Arch Enemy Arts, along with all the gallery attendees voted on the best two coolers on-site.

Street artists AirRat and Distort received
the honors
last week with their distinctive designs and will get the opportunity
to show their art during the Scope Art Show during Art Basel Week in
Miami in December this year.  As an additional perk to support the
artists in their career, all of the coolers
will be donated to various venues in the Philadelphia area (per below)
as works of art to support the artists who took part in this project.

Finley Catering Opens in Union Trust

Not too long ago there was a beautiful steakhouse that opening in Old City called Union Trust.

And then the economy dropped, then partners ate too much into the profits and the jeweled dwelling closed.

Earlier this year I broke the story that Finley Catering would be taking over the space.

The oyster bar is gone and now serves a different kind of  aphrodisiac – spirits.

Recently I photographed the JAM Event there, one of the first to occur in the new space.
Gone are the large supper club booths that lined the wall, the awkward bar on the first floor and the walls that divided the dining tables.
Now it’s more of an open plan, and I like it.
Upstairs there’s still a nice bar.
Gone are the tables on the Mezz level, and instead is replaced with a great area for a cocktail party.
There’s still a second floor private dining area.
The space is versatile to hold many different kinds of events.
