Bradley Cooper – Silver Linings Playbook in Center City, Plus Lots of Celebrity Sightings at Eateries

Thank you to all my tipsters for your initial tips that allowed me to piece this entry together.

**********************
David O’Russell brought his Silver Linings Playbook to Center City at the end of last week. Wednesday through Friday evening the production filmed at the Ben Franklin House’ lobby. (Which by the way is now a Korman Suites & still an apartment building with medical offices. My dentist is there, I wanted to get an emergency appt but was too busy.) Sources tell me they were filming a scene where Jennifer Lawrence’s character checks into the hotel, and Bradley Cooper is accompanying her. (The following 2 photos Facebook – BC News)
Bradley Cooper’s character is Pat Peoples in the Silver Linings Playbook. He just go out of Norristown Hospital after 4 years, but he thinks it was only 4 months. I guess that’s where the comedy part comes in, otherwise it sounds depressing. Clever that the production labels the chair Pat and not Bradley Cooper. Cooper did sign for peeps in the lobby, but for most of the two days the place was in lock down mode.

( Thanks to my advertisers this week: Secrets Limo ; CTO Entertainment;
Recess Lounge; Teuscher Chocolates; The Shops at Liberty Place; Del Frisco’s – Book your holiday party now, and get $100 gift certificate with every booking. The LAB; Anne Nikolaus Stella Dot Jewelery. ; Christopher Gabello Studios ; Woodford Reserve; The Sporting Club (I’ve started training with Cliff there.)
Friday afternoon near Bradley Cooper’s dressing room A Chick and Her Boobs were out running and met up with Cooper. Holly Cooper has stated to friends that her brother is no longer dating J-Lo, as I suspected last week on my Fox 29 Philadelphia segment. Read that Bradley Cooper is a mama’s boy, and she didn’t like her boy dating that fame whore. I hear she’s dating a back up dancer, didn’t she already do that? How’d that work out for you J-Lo?

Update: And with the above HC tidbit tweeted, Holly Cooper contacted me. Sweet girl, great cook. Check out her FB page with lots of delicious food pictures: (Holly didn’t give me any of the info on this page besides link to her FB).
Friday night there was a wedding in the Ben Franklin Ballroom, so Silver Linings Playbook vacate the lobby and move to another location. Performing at that wedding was Erika Schiff from American Idol and “I Married A Mobster” and Tiffany Dawson, Glam Luxe. Sunday the duo were guests of Dr Oz at the Philadelphia Eagles game. Tiffany, John Bolaris, Dr Oz, Erika Schiff and Timmy Ciccone (wonder if he’s related to Madonna?) OK back to the movie, where did Silver Linings Project go..

Friday night, they took the filming outside to Jewelers Row to film a Christmas Scene. (Mike Jerrick Twitter)
Talking about rocks: Congrats to my friends Jill Rizen and Andrew Hennig on their engagement at Barclay Prime Saturday night.
Later that night, after filming was done, actor Chris Tucker grabbed dinner at Tashan, then partied at G Lounge.

Saturday Sightings:

Julia Stiles headed to dhyana yoga on Walnut Street Saturday around noon to take a class w/

Bradley Cooper was at Tashan’s on Saturday night with director David O’ Russell, and cast members Jacki Weaver (who plays BC’s mom), Brea Bee and Bollywood star Anupun Kher.

Robert De Niro had dinner at Talula’s Table.Haley Joel Osment making his way down Broad St after his performance at in Red, which ended Sunday.

Brent Celek took a cell phone pix with a few fans ( Matthew Shindell, Matt Kanoff, Holly Steiner, Ashley Kanoff, Barrie Greenberg, Rachel and Marc Shaw) Friday night at Sampan. Chef/Owner Michael Schulson was

In Atlantic City where on Saturday night he he was the winner of cook off against in Atlantic City.

Team Derek gets a picture with Mohamed Ali as he arrives in town for Joe Frazier’s funeral today. Also spotted Bernard Hopkins at Del Frisco’s for dinner Sunday night.

Some great folks in attendance including Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka above, Jimmy Kimmel, Laura Dern and more. Did that movie shot in Philly with Neil Patrick Harris ever hit the theaters, Bright Lights, Big City?

And Finally

MAYOR NUTTER’S STATEMENT ON OCCUPY PHILLY #FB

Thursday, November 13, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MAYOR NUTTER RAISES PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY CONCERNS RELATED TO OCCUPY PHILLY, INCREASES POLICE PROTECTION

Philadelphia, November 13, 2011 – At a noon news conference, Mayor Michael A. Nutter raised a series of public health and public safety concerns regarding the Occupy Philly site on Dilworth Plaza.

The Mayor said that the Occupy Philly contingent has noticeably changed since its arrival in early October and has refused to establish regular communications with the City. “Occupy Philly has changed, so we must change our relationship with them – things have changed,” Mayor Nutter said.

As a result of a pattern of public safety incidents, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey will establish uniformed officer foot patrol through the plaza and deploy officers at strategic locations near the Occupy Philly area.

The Mayor’s statement follows:

I’ve asked you here today because of my very great concern about dramatically deteriorating conditions on Day 39 in our engagement with Occupy Philly on City Hall apron, also known as Dilworth Plaza.

Occupy Philly has changed. We’re seeing serious health and safety issues playing out on almost a daily basis.

Occupy Philly is fractured with internal disagreement and disputes. The people of Occupy Philly have also changed and their intentions have changed … and all of this is not good for Philadelphia.

When I met with representatives of Occupy Philly on Wednesday Oct. 5 in my office, I made it clear to them:
that the City would in fact protect their free speech rights and that we wanted to cooperate with them,
But I also said that the life of the City must go on: it is our daily business that must be conducted and not be impeded.
And I pointed out to them that day that there is a major project planned for Dilworth Plaza, that it’s been in works for a number of years now – a $50 million remake of Dilworth Plaza into an open, green, vibrant space … built by the 99 percent for the 99 percent.
And they told me that they would be peaceful, that they would not be disruptive, that they would obey the laws of the City of Philadelphia and that they would communicate with us regularly and they only wished to express their free speech rights.

On Oct. 11, the City sent a letter to Occupy Philly representatives, setting out a series of public safety and public health concerns that had quickly arisen, including the following:
Combustible structures near historic City Hall;
The lack of an emergency fire lane near the building;
And a growing problem with litter, public urination, defecation and graffiti.

Unfortunately, Occupy Philly did not respond to our growing public safety and health concerns. Finally, two weeks ago, on Sunday Oct. 30, a group of Occupy Philly leaders met with my staff and me at the American Friends Services Committee offices at 15th and Cherry. It was a cordial exchange of views and concerns.

The following day, the City of Philadelphia sent an email to the group asking for weekly meetings, which we had discussed the previous day when we met, so that we could better understand each other’s issues, concerns and requirements, and so that we could work together to identify possible sites for relocation or even other programs and activities that we could work on mutually to address some of the concerns the group has had here in Philadelphia and across the nation.

We also described in that Oct. 30 meeting, two additional pending maintenance related projects: the removal of scaffolding from the tower area and a separate project requiring a scissor lift to make repairs to a number of City Hall windows that actually look down on the Occupy Philly location.

It’s now two weeks later, and there has been no response to our concerns … none whatsoever!

Instead, what’s abundantly clear now is that Occupy Philly is in violation of the terms of its permit, which requires it as an organization to observe our city ordinances.

Let me describe just a few of the issues:

Into this highly combustible environment – with tents and wooden pallets, bedding and waste – we know that some are using cooking stoves, candles, lanterns and of course there has been widespread smoking with the potential for fire and tragedy.

On Oct. 28, we had a small fire in that location in which a nylon tent went up in flames.

This past Friday, the Fire Marshal and a Haz-Mat team supervised the removal of a known propane tank that was Gerri-rigged to a small heater and a hurricane lamp. We are quite sure, unfortunately, that many more such units are hidden in tents throughout their encampment.

In spite of the presence of porto-potties, the problem with public urination and defecation remains a significant health threat. In short, conditions there are unsanitary and that also includes food distribution.

Friday night, the Occupy Philly general assembly voted against moving from Dilworth Plaza:
Occupy Philly is now purposely standing in the way of a nearly 1,000 jobs for Philadelphians at a time of high unemployment. They are blocking Philadelphians from taking care of their families.
We’ve seen the rise of new groups as a part of this movement like the Radical Caucus, which is bent on civil disobedience and disrupting city operations;
Many of the people that we talked to in the beginning of this event and activity are now gone. They are no longer on the site. They are no longer on the scene. And Occupy Philly has refused to engage in active, regular discussions with us. This change in behavior is no accident. It is a direct result of the fact that this movement has changed and the people have changed.

In recent weeks, there have been numerous reports of thefts and assaults in the Occupy Philly space. In addition, between Oct. 6 and Nov. 11, there have been 15 EMS runs related to the Occupy Philly site.

And then last night shortly before 8 pm, a woman reported an alleged sexual assault in one of the tents. This incident is also under investigation.

These conditions are intolerable. Occupy Philly is not acting in good faith, and it’s now abundantly clear that on many levels this group is violating a range of city ordinances and the terms of their permit.

Of necessity, we are now at a critical point where we must reevaluate out entire relationship with this very changed group.

Occupy Philly has changed, so we must change our relationship with them – things have changed.

Very soon, we must prepare for the renovation project of windows in City Hall on the west side. It is a project that is vital to the safety of our city employees and Occupy Philly members who are directly below. It will require a number of tents and structures to move.

We do not seek confrontation with Occupy Philly. As a matter of fact, I have expressed almost every day my very strong belief in many of the issues and concerns that the original Occupy Philly individuals that I met with have raised:
Issues related to unemployment, poverty, bank lending, homelessness, the rights of people to express themselves.

Again, we do not seek confrontation with Occupy Philly. We prefer cooperation but these issues of public health and public safety must be addressed, and addressed immediately.

Misconduct is not about free speech, and the behavior we’re now seeing is running squarely into the needs of our City government that also represents the very real 99 percent. As Mayor of the City of Philadelphia, I represent the 99 percent also.

Our responsibility is bigger than Occupy Philly, our responsibility is to all of the citizens, all of our public employees, to the entire city and the region.

And so for all the reasons I’ve enumerated including public safety concerns, I have asked Police Commissioner Ramsey to increase the uniform police patrol in the area where Occupy Philly is as well as establish structured and strategic positioning and deployment of officers on a regular basis in that location as well.

PHILA CRAFT SHOW, WHISKY TASTING & A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

Hope you caught my Philly Mag column on the Philadelphia Art Museum Craft Show which continues through Sunday. I recommend you go 100%. It’s only $15. You don’t have to buy anything, but you’ll want to. It’s beautiful, inspirational and they have demonstration to help you awaken your inner artist.Last night I attended a Scotch Tasting Pairing event with Single Malt Scotch Whisky The Macallan and the restaurant R2L in honor of the collaboration with the Scottish crafters who have come to share their wares at the 35th annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show.
Sam Milakofsky, of Capital Wine & Spirits, discusses the Single Malt Scotch Whisky The Macallan with the guests.
John and Meredith Marks are scotch fans and were looking forward to the pairings event.
Jason Long discusses what to expect from the scotch tasting. Do not sniff it like wine or you will incinerate your nose hairs. It is to be tasted, drunk slowly to enjoy the bounty of it’s flavor.
The craft show continues through tomorrow. It’s not your neighborhood craft show, it’s high quality, beautifully handcrafted items that make great holiday gifts.
Chef Daniel Stern, R2L created the perfect menu that complimented the whisky. My favorite was the dates with pate. Each tartan represents a family line or clan. Until the middle of the nineteenth century, the highland tartans were associated with regions or districts, rather than by any specific clan. This was because tartan designs were produced by local weavers for local tastes and would tend to make use of the natural dyes available in that area. Dave Clark center tells me his tartan represents only the Clark family, and not the clan.
Ken Leith, Wayne Lorgus, Karin Sturla, Craig Mills and Douglas Hyland. Douglas Hyland is wearing his uncles tartan, and his dress shoes as well.Douglas Hyland, Tita Hyland, Katherine Padulo, Louis Padulo, Joe Seamons, Elizabeth Seamans, Mary Bald and Tuly Reeve
Many people attending the Whisky Tasting, enjoyed the craft show and mad a few purchases. I am still looking for the scarf booth that I saw so many people purchase. They were green and looked like slinkees? Anyone?
Did you know that there are no vintages for whisky, (Gaelic for “water of life”), that consistency is what is important. These three know why. Domenica Vinci, Althena Photopoulos and Angela Buchanico are fans of scotch and were excited to attend the tasting as well as hear about the history of food and whisky.
Wood purses. Between $100 – $300. Very unique indeed. Nothing like the Cigar box purses that were popular a few years back.
Jason Long, The Macallan manager, discusses the beauty and taste of the various years of the whiskey.
Tarrick Nassar and Josh Phillips wanted to stop off at the whiskey tasting before they headed over to Jack Willis’ cocktail party that I tweeted about earlier this week. Jack Willis is the new clothing store on Walnut Street.
Maida Milone and Bonnie Barnes enjoy the various flavors of Macallan scotch. Most everyone I talked to enjoyed all the years, but did favor #17 & #18.
Wooden bowls were all the rage at the craft show.
Emily Rothrock and Mark Karagelian
Michael Murphy, Josh Long, Daniel Stern and Sam Milakofsky help make the night informative and interesting.

Roaring! A 1920s Was A Roaring Good Time – See What You Missed…

Last night was the much anticipated Roaring! A 1920s Event hosted by Dalet Gallery, Noel Zayas events and The Arts Ballroom.
I arrived at 6:30PM for the 7PM event and found Noel running around and getting everything in place. He said we’re a little behind as there was a wedding renting the space all day. Later I would learn it wasn’t just some random wedding, but one that was being shot for TLC and booked at the last minute, so you can imagine the start up time it must have taken for Noel, his team Garden, Natasha and crew to do after the “wedding” vacated about 5PM, but
but they did it, he pulled it together by 7PM and the guests never knew anything different. I can see why they would do a wedding, or an event here, it’s gorgeous. Just last week I wrote about the 25th Anniversary of Action AIDS, which was held here, and describe the room with it’s Tiffany blue shaded walls and crystal chandeliers as being first class. It’s a perfect place to hold a Roaring 20’s party as the room exudes a timeless classic flair. Check out that grand staircase leading to the mezzanine.
Leo Vayn and Irena Gobernik of Dalet Gallery
LinkMonique Starricom and Kristen Sarmiento keep it cool so the Keystone Kop (Stewart Brodian) doesn’t Kuff them. Stewart Brodian also does a great Abe Lincoln he tells me.
The legend: Daily News columnist Stu Bykofsky and Rachel Shapiro make a good team, and met over a political column. I miss his gossip column. He told me it’s been 7 years since Dan Gross took the reins.
Cinvee K, Isabelle Kent and Mellissa Chen make being thirsty a plus just to have it satisfied by one of them.
Megan Heaton and Justin Guzzo looking great whether it’s 1920 or 2011
George Tsiouris, Opa restaurant, Thom Cardwell, Queer Times, Marcus and James Duggan, Queer Times
Are they, aren’t they is the question so many people ask me about them. Yes they have moved to new offices overlooking City Hall, and their partnership at Vlahos PR is booming these days, especially with new client The Chestnut Hill shopping district. Chestnut Hill is a great day trip right in our own City. Go See. Jimmy Contreras and Matt Vlahos. Also making big waves is Amber Hankins and Tiffany Dawson. These two popped onto the scene about two years ago with their blog The Glam Life – Fashionista extraordinaire. They’ve work hard, networked and it’s finally paid off in an unexpected way. You see Tiffany for years has been a singer, most recently with CTO entertainment. She tells me she created these Swarovski Crystal shoes to wear on stage. When she played events and especially weddings the ladies would ask her where she got the shoes. She told them she made them. Then they started a small side business, then they sent a pair to Nicey Nash. The View’s Sherri Shepard was at the wedding and wanted a pair too. She wore them at her wedding. Then showed the shoes on The View and sales have been steady since. Now Nicey Nash wants to take them to another level and they are going to mass produce them, and introduce them to the world on the Home Shopping Network. Girls you are on your way…

BUDDY RYAN IS HONORED BY The 13th Annual Otho Davis Scholarship Foundation Awards Dinner

My Philly Mag Column.

http://blogs.phillymag.com/the_philly_post/2011/11/09/hughe-dillon-buddy-ryan-honored/

Philadelphia Eagles at The Fog Bowl picture signed by all in attendance, was auctioned for $1700. The Fog Bowl was the name given to the December 31, 1988 National Football League (NFL) playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears. A heavy, dense fog rolled over Chicago‘s Soldier Field during the 2nd quarter, cutting visibility to about 10-20 yards for the rest of the game. Philadelphia moved the ball effectively all day and Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham had 407 passing yards despite the low visibility; but they could not get the ball into the end zone. Many players complained that they could not see the sidelines or first-down markers[citation needed]. The Bears ended up winning 20-12.

The Hughes Center Spooktacular Fall Open House

The Hughes Center hosted a Spooktacular Fall Open House at the end of October at the Curtis Center. I’ve attended several events at the Curtis Center and love it as a venue. Very spacious, and gorgeous. It’s hard to believe it’s an office building lobby.
The caterer at the Curtis Center is Cescaphe, which I highly recommend. OK but now to the reason we were there.
Dr. Susan M. Hughes, MD, F.A.C.S., is Harvard trained and among the most experienced and highly educated facial cosmetic surgeons in New Jersey. She has been selected a Philadelphia Magazine, South Jersey Magazine, and SJ Magazine “Top Doc”. Here Dr Hughes is with Susie Johnsen and Julie Dorenbos of Skin Pallette.
At the event demostrations of what Dr Hughes’ office could provide in if you are considering facial cosmetic surgery, and also medical spa services for a fresh and vibrant appearance without going under the knife.
There were also vendors at the event displaying their wares. The Holidays are only about 6 weeks away. So foreign especially with this recent 70F weather. Above Nicole and Mary Harvey of Rack and Roll Clothing offer many stylish clothes to make your fall wardrobe rock. For facial rejuvenation most people don’t realize that there are three areas of the face that may or may not need some help. The face is divided into three sections, the Upper, Mid and Lower. Over time each section experiences skin wrinkling, fat deflation and sagging. They can all be improved with Laser skin tightening, fat or filler injections, and now mini incision face lifting. For more information, and then click here to request a consultation with Dr. Hughes.
Proceeds from the days events went to the charity Little Smiles. Their mission is to help children escape their everyday pain and allow them to be a kid again, even if it’s for a short period of time. We respond to the needs of the children and provide whatever we can to make their day a little brighter. We help put a smile back on the faces of children who need it most.
There were raffle prizes that included designer bags, and lot of Botox Filler & Zeltiq.

PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY TASTE OF PHILLY SORIEE

PhillYChitChatter:

Jason Cichonski tweeted that he took my advice and will be opening his eatery with Chip RomanEla on 11/11/11. I told him the date was free after my buddy Lee wasn’t able to open his restaurant (Hop Sing Laundromat) on that date because of drying ink on a few documents. (Lee is currently mad at me because I like eating at Wok on Walnut, and am too lazy to wander into Chinatown for real Chinese food.)

I snoozed on getting this out as well as reporting that Gordon Ramsay was eating at Morimoto last night at the chef’s table. A reader tipped me off that they saw him go in at 8PM, I ran myself over there and was going to wait til he left but was too hungry. The place was packed so I thought I would head home and do a blog post after he left. But eagle eye Drew Lazor, City Paper’s Meal Ticket, tweeted it out there before I got it up before I got home cause I stopped at Wok on Walnut St for dinner. Gordan is in town shooting a few restaurants to feature on his show Kitchen Nightmares is finishing up a few days of filming at Chiarella’s (1603 E. Passyunk) and then will shoot Zocalo (3600 Lancaster Ave.) (Meal Ticket)

Tony Bennett signed for fans this weekend as he exited the Four Seasons Hotel before his concert at the Kimmel Center.

BTW Wok has updated their menu to include Japanese food now. I had hot and sour soup and Pad Thai for dinner. I won’t have the Pad Thai again, it was boring. Not as good as Budukhan. I’ll go back to the Moo Goo Gai Pan.

*************
Last Thursday was a busy day. As some of you know (who follow me on Twitter @iphillychitchat) I’ve been going to a hypnotist, I started working a trainer at The Sporting Club (Boxing with Clif) and hitting weight watchers. So over the next year or so I will probably chatting about that journey with you. Last week I took it a little easier, explored a few things, like using a ring flash for shooting the Philadelphia Weekly Taste of Philly last night. I don’t like the results, so I won’t be using that thing again.
Remember I had to but it to shoot Pam Anderson at Parx Casino. I did make my money back, but I think I’ll just hang the round flash on a pole somewhere. Or maybe I should read the instruction book. I’m notorious about not reading instructions. Last night was the first time I ever covered the PW Taste of Philly. I love reading the newspaper, and have been a fan all the way back to the “Welcomat” days, so it’s like an old friend. I was also surprised to find many PCC and Fox 29 fans there, and I really appreciate all your kind words. I hear Mike Jerrick was there, but we always seemed to be on opposite sides of the room and I never saw him myself.
I don’t always get back to each and every press release or invite that is sent to me as I am overwhelmed, but I do recall them if I come across them out in the field. Recently I have been seeing a lot of Mad Mex emails as they are opening a new restaurant 11/11/11 Willow Grove, they currently have one in University City at 34th and Walnut. They were serving chips and salsas, ranging from mild to where the hell can I get a glass of water? Above Joe Huntenburg and Jordan Haverstick
The hypnotist is working. I didn’t have any cake, cookies or candy last night. Although this room smelled delicious.
I was wondering why the pig statue was turned around, now I just got it. The Twisted Tail just opened. I had heard about it through Profile PR, as well as my friend Evan Solomon, EFS Networks Inc. who did the computer IT work before the restaurant opened. He specializes in such things so if you’re opening a restaurant I’m going to recommend him. He’s a nice guy too. That’s important as well as being skilled. Owner George Reilly above with Laura Reilly, Social Media Coordinator. It’s interesting to read on Yelp.com the various reviews, especially when two peeps had the same dinner, my buds Alli and Mike I. http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-twisted-tail-philadelphia
Michelle Shannon, Bruce Shannon and Margaret Hughes. The event was held at the Crystal Tea Room, which is convenient for parking, and close to transportation. The Crystal Tea Room is very versitle holding VIP functions, classy weddings, (Remember Anne Hathaway’s cousin was had her wedding reception here,) charity events, Shecky’s Girls Night Out, and well tonight a food event.
Shira Rosenwald, Lindsay Bues and Laura Speefs of Philabundance which benefited from tonights event along with City Of Hope.
LinkKristin Lisi, Dean Cafiero and Lisa Coroniti. I’ve never photographed Dean in all the years I’ve been shooting for chitchat, and now in the space of one week he’s out and about with two blonds on each arm. That’s how he rolls you know, he owns The Grotto.
