COLLEEN WALSH’S & DAVE SPANGLER’S WILD & CRAZY WEDDING

A few weeks back my friends David & Colleen were married at St Francis Xavier in Fairmount.

Publish Post

Colleen is my sister Crista’s BFF growing up in Cherry Hill. I remember driving those two crazy girls to and from elementary school, to the mall and eventually to clubs. When they were both in their late 20s they thought it would be fun if they moved closer to me, so for a couple years we all lived at the Philadelphian. When they were both married they didn’t have to go far to find a church to be married in as St. Frannie’s was right next door. Now they have both left me, and I’m sad, but I have great memories of all our good times together.
The Rehearsal Dinner was held at the Fairmount Boathouse along the Schuykill RiverColleen, Dave Her mom (where’s dad), sisters Karen & Maureen and nieces.
My favorite picture from that evening
The next day the trolley arrived at the church as the bag pipper was playing “When Irish Eyes are Smiling.”I’m not the wedding photographer, I don’t do weddings, but I do wedding photography gifts if I’m invited. I like to take the photos that aren’t the “canned” shots that you are expecting from the photographer you hire. (The canned shots are important)My favorite photo of the day. A day that went off without a snag
except one when the dress was caught on the church doors leading to the Alter.

You should have a Maid of Honor that is so attentive. Karen made sure Colleen’s dress laid perfectly for every shot.
Husband & Wife

The Philadelphian & St. Frannie’sBride & Groom’s first dance
Through the Years is playing for Dad & Colleen
When you get this many Irish together, it only means one thing, one wild & crazy wedding reception. Keep that in mind. The dance floor opened before dinner
and continued into OT for the band for 5 hrs
My sister Janine, Bro in laws Tom DeFeo and Michael Bateman (Crista)
There were some crazy moves that night
Super Freak, Super Freak that girls a super freak

I don’t think this is the Hustle
Or the Electric Slide If you wanna ride Don´t ride the white horse If you wanna ride Don´t ride the white horse
Maybe the cutting of the cake will go better
nope, why should it…
aaahhhhhhh (Dave’s Italian, they’re a little more laid back)
Then Uncle wrote a song for the happy couple
it was dead on funny and sweet. I’ll look for it on Youtube.

Me, two of my sisters (I have 5), Crista, Mom and Janine (Mike took this picture, I forgot his pix)Congratulations Dave & Colleen, I’ll miss you both but know I will see you soon. Love Hughe

RESCUE SPA CELEBRATES FIVE YEARS OF MAKING RITTENHOUSE SQUARE BEAUTIFUL

The owner, Danuta, with Cori Moskow, Gloss PRMicala on Yelp states “Here is why I like the spa. My job is very high stress and when I go to the spa…I do not want to hear anyone talk in the other room when I am getting a massage or facial. When I go to Terme, I hate going to the basement. I like that it is quiet, clean and modern. I like the service they provide. The price is comparable to every spa in the city. The facial I got was amazing. They don’t pressure you to buy the products. I will go back again and again and I even buy gift certificates for my friends there because they provide quality service.”
The 2nd floor space (the building is at 17th and Latimer, go in the lobby, take the elevator one floor up) is open, clean, bright, spacious and modern with dark wooden floors.

2009 PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES WIN NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

Everyday I’m just gonna add more info/pixs to this entry as things come up, whether they be Philly Pep Rallies, or something fan crazy.

Things are returning to normal on Broad Street; trash receptacles have been put back, and banners have been rehung

WORLD SERIES PARADE MONDAY 11/2

Pixs from last nights game from none other than Sabrina Tamburino & Steve Thorne, who are having a big blow out wedding at the Bellevue on Halloween which is now Game 3. Bummer Chase & Jen Utley won’t be in attendance now, but Sabrina & Steve are setting up a room for game viewing. I wonder if they’d delay their honeymoon for another parade down Broad Street? Would you?
Phillies win National League championship Last year the afterparty for the NL win was held at S Starr’s Washington Square. This year it was a house party at Cole Hamel’s (hope they didn’t wake the kids?) Here’s a link to their house warming party. http://tinyurl.com/ykwndp6

Broad Street: Earlier this week I noticed they took away the solar trash cans and put the green trash cans out, but I didn’t realize it was in anticipation of tonight’s win.

Many of the newspaper boxes were removed.

Perry Milou is selling posters (prints) of a painting he did for the World Series Championship Phillies & he has a sticker that says “REPEAT” which you can attach to it. Ask him to sign the poster cause he is Philly Peter Max. You’ll want his signature on it. He’s hanging out on Walnut Street in front of Joan Shepp’s Store.

RANDOM PHONE PICTURES & STORIES OF THE CITY

Friday I went to a press luncheon, which is a gathering of press/bloggers to try out new menu items at restaurants. This one was held at Union Trust at 717 Chestnut Street.
Playing off the address they’ve created a $7.17 lunch special, perfect for the recession. Hmmm Hamburger and the fries. You know how I love them. I’m thinking of going around town once a week and eating a hamburger somewhere, shooting it and then giving me opinion.
Duck Confit salad was eaten across from me and he said it was delicious, and Matt Ray next to me had Fish & Chips and thought it was the best.
The Where Magazine & Lago’s 2nd annual Key to the City award was held at Ristorante Panorama at the Penn’s View. They have real towels in the bathroom.
The Susan Komen pig at Macy’s will collect your dollars and donate them to cancer research #BeatCancer. December 5th is the Linda Creed Foundation luncheon. The money raised at that event stays local and assists women with their hospital bills. They need a “Celebrity” to MC the event. I really believe in this organization as the money stays local and helps women who are suffering with their bills so it’s one less thing to worry about. Any Philebrity’s available?
I had a delicious cheese tray (with Kristy Gonzales & Monica Devlin) at Franklin Mtg & Company bar on Saturday Night. I thought it was from DiBruno’s as that is who provided their cheese & meat trays when the bar opened in the summer, but
when I had lunch at Smith’s on Wednesday (delicious roast beef sandwich), and was telling Chef Brendan Smith about the delicious cheese tray I had at Franklin Bar, he told me that he now provides them with the meat/cheese platters. What a coinky dink that I would even bring that up? Call B*Smith Catering for your bar’s food menu cause it was a nice treat to be able to get a little nibbly in a bar along with cocktails. I’d like to see the G Lounge do this. What happened to DiBruno’s?
Please help MANNA & Jimmy Contreras, reach the goal of selling 100 pies for MANNA’s Pie in the Sky! Buy a pie and a MANNA client will be delivered six life-sustaining meals. It doesn’t get any sweeter than that. http://www.mannapies.org/mypage.cfm?ID=2222
I love the chocolate cream and pecan pies. I will be losing 20lbs before Thanksgiving just so I can have a slice of each.Philadelphia Cinema Alliance is offering a rare opportunity to 10 guests who wish to dine with Oscar-winning, Internationally-acclaimed director, Costa-Gavras, Wednesday, October 21, 8:15pm,on the eve of the premiere of his film, Eden is West, and his acceptance of the PCA Artistic Achievement Award.
The personable and multi-lingual director (he speaks fluent English) is eager to converse with Philadelphia’s diverse and knowledgeable cinephiles in this intimate setting.
Your dinner ticket will also include your ticket to the screening and award ceremony,
6:45pm, Thursday, October 22, at the Prince Music Theater.

To take advantage of this one time, memorable evening, please contact:

I did an interview with Hadas Kuznit’s from KYW last week. http://tinyurl.com/yf5bc57In the men’s room they have all the bases covered, a hands free faucet for germaphobes and one you operate yourself for the control freaks. That’s what we need at my house.
If you want to be a prisoner for Halloween, and who doesn’t, check out these jumpers at I Goldberg at 13th & Chestnut. Maybe you want to wear it to the Eastern State Penitentiary is a Massive Haunted House in a Real Prison. and freak the other visitors out.
On Wednesday you can hang out with a bunch of screaming queens, like myself. Buy tickets at Bruce Yelk’s Nightlife Gay http://www.nightlifegay.com/TBTW.html
Ben Franklin has Phillies Spirit at the Fairmount Boathouse
Endangered species, newspaper boxes along Broad Street. I guess L&I really is removing the ones they slap with the orange removal signs on.
This week in B&W it mentions the tidbit I gave to Us Weekly about Jon Gosselin’s visit to Philadelphia, mentioning his stop at the Whiskey Bar, Mid-Town Continental & Parc. So PR tip me off to your celebrity sightings and I’ll see what I can do for you. No celeb or Philebrity too small. This week I had tidbits about G Lounge & Del Frisco’s in Phila Daily News, info about Recess, Del Frisco’s, Boyds & Union Trust in the Inquirer. I obtain this info either by tips or by being on the scene. Sometimes I do a restaurant/club loop and obtain my info, sometimes I stop inside.

JOLLY’S DUELING PIANO BAR RITTENHOUSE SQUARE IS ALMOST OPENED

The Long anticipated Jolly’s Dueling Piano Bar is about to make it’s debut in Philadelphia: Jolly Weldon had a success with Jolly’s Piano Bar at the Latham Hotel, (Sam Maturo, Lenfest Media Group, Jolly Weldon , Michael DeBaecke , James Oliver, James Oliver Gallery at the Lippincott B&B kickoff with Brendan Smith Catering) It was at this event that Jolly first told me about his Dueling Piano bar. Also this Saturday 10/24, James Oliver Gallery presents a new Our new exhibit TRANSPLANT opens next Saturday. You can get a sneak peek here: http://bit.ly/gUU9j It includes artwork previously banned by the Art Institute because of gun violence, but will be displayed for the first time at the James Oliver Gallery. but now will be opening his Dueling Piano Bar October 30 just in time to sing the Monster Mash, Thriller and The Time Warp Halloween Weekend. These windows open to allow the music to tickle the ears of passerbyers.
The pianos were in place, but because of construction it was a little messy on the floor so just know they are on the left side of this picture. This is the bar, which is situated in the front of the place. There is also a small bar/food preparation area in the back of the bar. Food will be provided by Brendan Smith, executive chef/owner of b*smiths gourmet catering & Smiths restaurant. I love the warm earth tones of Jolly’s and the modern look of the bar.
The 125 seat venue at 2006 Chestnut Street offers a live, loud and interactive experience in a festive colored atmosphere. In keeping with the history of dueling pianos – the concept debuted in New Orleans during the Great Depression – Jolly’s offers a recession-friendly happy hour, a small plates menu under $10, and no cover charge. Along the wall you will find booths that will set between 6 – 10 of your friends. I see a lot of after work happy hours and celebrations in their future. Across from these booths will be a dozen or so small cafe tables, next to them will be the Dueling Pianos. Last week Michael Klein’s Insider column went into greater details of what to expect at Jolly’s. Historically usually on stage with two grand pianos, each played by a professional player who sings and entertains; humor and audience participation are prevalent. Doors open at 3PM, happy hour is 6PM – 8PM and shows begin at 8:30PM Tu – Sat nights. Each night has a different theme. Check them out here.
My friend Christian DiCicco ,who’s law office is right next door, will be in ear shot of many of the great tunes to be sung there. Typically at a piano bar you might hear classic rock, Top 40, R&B, country, or my favorite show tunes. So shortly it will be “Tomorrow” from Annie, and then it will be opening “Tonight” from West Side Story and we can sing “Seasons of Love” for years to come.

CELEBRITY PHOTOS TAKEN IN PHILADELPHIA & AROUND with behind the scenes stories

A lot of these shots were taken when I was the only photographer there, or others had gotten their shots and left. I really stay around til I get the shot that I know is just a little special. Then I’m done, really. Then I usually shoot the guests. Often I don’t post the “Gotcha Shots” as I save them for the press (They do go in my Published Folder:). Here’s a chance for you to see them now:

UNION TRUST STEAKHOUSE: Sometimes you just know when you have the right picture, and that was the case with Leslie Jordan enjoying a pre-party at Union Trust before his show Sordid Lives at Plays & Players.
Loews Hotel & The Wall Ball: I love getting the right candid shot. It used to be a breeze, but now it’s a little more challenging as people recognize me now and want to say hit, or wave etc, I usually take a posed shot then tell them to go about what they’re doing. It’s always great when I get a picture that tells the whole story needing only a few additional words. Here’s Jane Seymour, Mural Arts Founder Jane Golden and Chair of Wall Ball Margelle Liss, in front of a pix of a mural in the City.
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts & Phila Magazines Best of Issue: I’m also grateful that many of the news people in the City trust me and allow me into their circles to get the shots that I need. Although most pooh pooh at the thought of being a “Celebrity”, I try and explain that their “Celebrity” helps bring attention to many of the great charities and causes in the City when they make an appearance. So thanks to them. Both Aditi and Adam are looking at someone who had just gotten married and their ring was depicted in the photo. They weren’t quite ready to announce the wedding and I respected that, so I cropped him out.
North Star Bar: One Sunday night my co-workers band Action Park was putting on a show at the North Star. I like to go to see them once and awhile, this night there was a little incentive as “Rescue Me” Mike Lombardi was going on first. When I can get one of those unique shots which kinda come out of the blue, I am so there. I usually go somewhere and then if I think I did a good job catching something unique I send it out to my people. Out of 50 shots, I sent in 10 I knew this would be the shot as it’s a perfect unobstructed full body shot that tells the story I wanted to tell. This photo was also picked up on a national blog. Sadly blogs, even national ones only pay about $5 for photos. Interesting enough even if your photo appears on a blog, it could still be picked up in a magazine.
James L Brooks Untitled Movie: Poor Jack Nicholson. This is one of my best shots, and even though people think Jack’s a stud, the demographic buying audience of the glossies don’t want to see grandfatherly Jack. This photo appeared in Inqlings, but no where else, not even on a blog. Pretty sad.

Lucky Strikes & Jimmy Rollins charity Event: This is one of my all time favorite shots. Who doesn’t want to get a picture with their baseball hero. Just the other day I was telling my bro-in-law of my adventures. He’s a big shot at Microsoft in Charlotte, but acts like a little kids when he talks of his love for his Philly Sports teams, especially Chase Utley or Cole Hamel. So funny.
Katherine McPhee in Us Magazine. This shot was taken last September 08 at the Spring 2009 shows in Bryant Park. This is the first time it’s been published as butterflies became fashionable. The fashion industry sets the next seasons styles. Last week Katherine was in town for a radio appearance, stopped by the Phila Indep Visitor Center, then played in the park with her puppy. I sent the story to Us Magazine, but they didn’t run it. They did run my Jon Goselin story, where he stopped in Philly to party and who he was with. Pg 62 10/26/09 issue. Last night at LAC a women verified who he was with as she ran into him and Jon was staring at the hot blond, and the GF got irritated and said “Com’on”. So fun. (Last month I sent a story regarding Bradley Cooper & Renee Zellwenger which was used in Us Mag & People Mag.)
Marc Jacobs After Party: Lindsay Lohan Ok Mag Online arriving at the Marc Jacobs After Party. Lindsay is one of those rare celebs that will still get published because sadly we are watching a train wreck. Another interesting thing about this photo is it’s taken at night. If you look in many of the glosses most shots are taken during the day as the night shots usually get past on.
Amber Rose. This is backstage at the Nicole Miller show in Bryant Park. Thank you Mary Dougherty, who owns two Nicole Miller stores in the Philadelphia area, for arranging that for me.
Fashion Night Out in NYC: Poor Taylor, if she wasn’t an actress on Gossip Girls I know of a alternative career choice?
Center City Border’s Book Store: Sometimes when I cover an author event at Border’s or Barnes & Noble, I’m the only press there. Someone needs to get the word out and that is why I am going to be putting these events on my PCC calendar, and in the margin of the blog.
Electric Factory: I took a lot of shots the Lady Gaga concert when she was at Electric Factory, but somehow I overlooked this one. The next day when I was preparing the blog I found it. I knew it was something special and submitted it to my agency. The next day it was published in the NY Daily News. Although I have been published in magazines, it’s really a very rare event. I’m competing with NYC, LA and the world to get a shot in, but I’m happy to get exposure for Philly on any blog. I was estatic about Lady Gaga in the NY Daily news, as most often events happen in NYC first and photos taken in Philly don’t move as one of the “working” photographers have taken a similar shot. It’s about seniority more than say a good shot, which is only fair. On the otherhand, a unique shot will always win out.

Dusk, Atlantic City: Nicky Hilton is famous because her sister made a sex video tape. This was a great shot, Lance Bass serenading Nicky Hilton at Dusk Atlantic City for her birthday. It made some blogs, but she’s really not someone that has risen to the level of being published. People were excited to see her, but only if to get that closer to the Paris Hilton mystique. Why else would someone of David Katzenberg status date her. She’s got class. There are some blogs that note that Arthur Kade is in the background of this photo, but later he was invited in the VIP area to party with Nicky & Lance. I have a couple photos of that too.
Morimotto: This photo was never published nationally for two reasons 1) She had just appeared in NYC the night before 2) I submitted it as an exclusive, which is was, but when you do that they sell it for a much higher price (I will no longer submit as exclusives)

Still it was in the Inquirer so I felt that I shared something with the world
Jon Bon Jovi at the Project Home Anniversary Party Sept 2009 at Phila Marriott. Of course I wish it said that on yesterday’s Perez Hilton when this shot appeared, but you never know if a shot will be picked up the day you shoot it or in the future like this one.

Joe Jackson, has come out from under the rock in which he deserved to be under. He probably didn’t get photographed or published as much as he does now. Sometimes I wonder if I should give any PR to despicable people, but I know I have an obligation to do the best job I can. Hopefully he will crawl back under the rock.

Marriott Hotel, Beat 100.3 Music Conference: Legends together. Patti LaBelle & Teddy Pendergrast. I was surprised it wasn’t picked up by more outlets, but most folks probably don’t know who he is. (I don’t think anyone else got this shot. I’m so thrilled I got to share this moment with the world. It’s Philly Soul at it’s best)Reese Witherspoon is cold along the Parkway in Philadelphia. It took me three months to get one decent photo, and now I could care less to shoot her or give her anymore PR.

Parc – I give so much PR to the Starr Restaurants I deserve a discount like the James L Brooks actors get. I had to wait about 3 hrs for this shot. I think that works out to $ .01 an minute. Besides loving what I do, I do it is as I tell my friends “If a tree falls in the Forest does anyone hear it?” No, but if I’m there I’ll get a picture, and you will know it fell. (Some people collect baseball cards, I like to capture something you normally wouldn’t see.)

Paul Rudd is awesome. One of the nicest celebs you will ever meet. Autographs for fans, poses for pictures, is human.
