BOYDS KICKS OFF SOCIAL SEASON WITH A BANG

Today is the last day you can donate to support my walk for Ovarian Cancer with my family and sister Judy who is fighting the good fight. Here is the link to my page: http://www.active.com/donate/KOHNJAvon/PChitCh

Last night the social season seriously kick off in Style as Boyd’s celebrated the launch of their new men’s store and women’s stores on the 2nd and 3rd floor respectively.
The invitation arrived from Cashman & Associates 2 weeks ago, and when you recieve an invitation from Cashman & Assoc, especially an invitation to a Boyd party, someone told me, it’s one of those nights that you must set aside to attend because it’s going to be THE PARTY. And it was!! The invite list was off the hook, seriously was. It was inclusive of every walk of life, magazine publishers, media representatives, business people, connected people, housewives, young and old, other PR and advertising folks, just spectacular.
Our hostess for Boyd’s Nicole Cashman who really looks stunning in this black suit, with the It Girl, Sabrina Tamburino, who becomes Mrs It Girl in a little over a month. So excited Nicole and I will be at Dusk at Caesar’s in Atlantic City this weekend, partying with Nicky Hilton. SO if you are down the shore for what looks like one of the last warm weekends, stop by.
Alycia Thomas and Crystal Mauck made the scene. And the scene was the store, which looked brand spanking new. I’m a sucker for the classic look and I could have taken pixs of people all night long on this grand stair case.
And I almost did, here’s Monique Crawford, who I believed just finished celebrating her month long birthday, with Danielle Krupa. Monique tells me “I’m going to start designing my own line of clothing.” Which I can totally see, she’s got style.
The waitstaff maneuvered through the crowds, passing out an irresistible menu (from the restaurant RAW) including a selection of sushi and other delectables. Jennifer Grabel and Alexandra Calvcovic
Nina Tinari, back on the social scene after spending the entire summer in Harrisburg or on the West Coast where her new job has taken her. Which reminds me tonight at Strongbox is Jared Poe’s going away party as he embarks on a new life to the West Coast. Hopefully sending business back to Philly for me to photograph. It was just two months ago that we were all at the Chelsea/Union Trust filming the video for Azizz (Check it out here ). With Nina is Becca Rendell. Recently her father in law Gov Rendell dropped some serious poundage which hopefully inspires others to do the same thing. Often you can find him over at the Bellevue Sporting Club working his program.
Sam Gross and Stacey Kracher. Also attending and not too far away was Anne Nikolaus. These two girls are practically inseparable, they work together, go to the gym together, socialize nightly, they are definitely defined as BFF’s
Magazine Editor at The Philadelphia Tribune Shonda McClain and Alonzo Kittrels;
Did I mention that Boyds is at 1818 Chestnut St Philadelphia, PA 19103-4996 (215) 564-9000
Scott Webster and Jessica Hawkes. Jessica who has been a social photographer for Philadelphia Magazine recently went out on her own. She still submits to PM, but you can hire her too to cover your events & who wouldn’t she’s talented, beautiful and doesn’t need a step ladder. Reach her at Jhawkes (@) Gmail (dot) com
My favs besties NBC10’s Aditi Roy and CBS3’s lovely Lesley van Arsdale. It’s rare to see one without the other, and silly me for allowing the question to go unanswered “Did they coordinate their outfits tonight?”
If Hadas Kuznits had her way we would be in the new ladies shoe department on the third floor, but it was too hard to maneuver thru the bustling crowd so we settled for this shot, which is not too shabby. On the left is Hadas’ main squeeze Mike Rosenberg, Matthew Vlahos, Sarah Cooper Bobersky and JimmyStyle himself Jimmy Contreras. I mentioned earlier this week that Jimmy will be doing fashion spots in October on Fox 29 in the morning. Yesterday Kayce Cashman was on the NBC10 Morning show with fashion tips of her own.
Steve Rockman and Dana Spain who were a hit and run. I recall Dana mentioning to me a few weeks back that her social card was full this evening but wanted to make a stop at Boyd’s to check out the new women’s store. Dana’s birthday is coming up soon, a birthday that she shares with her dad. I wonder what’s on the gift list this year. For those in the know remember that she had to choose between two gifts last year.
Noah Hoffman and Anne Nikolaus

I finally made it up to the new women’s store where I found Samantha Schultz and Jessica Balls, er I mean Jacqueline Stemper checking out the clothes. (I don’t know who Jessica Balls is but the girls say it’s an inside joke which I am willing to take out of the closet). Jacquieline loved what she saw and said she would be back to do her some shopping if she couldn’t buy it tonight.
A partial overview of the women’s floor. The space is enormous, over 10,000 sq feet. The new men’s floor is below on the 2nd floor and I am sure will be very busy on the day the women’s store has their sales
’cause a small section of the women’s store floor is see through to the men’s floor and visa versa/ (now it would have been better for me to go downstairs and shoot up, but when I noticed this aspect it was towards the end of the night. You get the picture right, upskirt voyeur shots to be had here.) Also it’s not recomended to stand here if you suffer from vertigo.
The ladies shoe department finds Chuck Peruto and Regina Mascaro checking out the merchandise. Someone actually said to me last night that they were going to put on a outfit they wore to the Phila Mag party a couple weeks back, and then thought wait PhillyChitChat will be there and want my pix and I will now need to wear another outfit. It’s someone that doesn’t go out a lot, but I always want their pix.
Off the market is Casey Anderson who’s beau just popped the question. They haven’t set a date yet, but their engagement party is Halloween. With them is U of P’s fraternity brother Andrew Rosenthal and his lovely Elise Gilbert. Their first date was at a Cashman event a little over a year ago.
Holly and Doug Kammermer; with Premiere Hospitality Group, Michael Steinberg; Doug says we should be able to get the Ovarian Cancer Walk in before the weather changes. It’s so much fun to know him as I am a crazy weatherhead. I would have become a meteorologist except I’m not so good in math, bummer.
Jin hee Chayapruks and Tracy Seng, Phila Magazine. Next Thursday is going to be another full dance card for me, The Grave Diggers Ball, Philadelphia Magazine’s Let’s Do Cocktails
Philadelphia magazine is putting a new twist on their annual Cocktail Competition. For information and tickets: visit phillymag.com/letsdococktails or call 800.595.4TIX

PLUS Join Utley All Star Animals and Boyds to Shop for a Great Cause Utley All-Star Animals You have to RSVP to RSVP@cashmanandassociates.com and should know that it is a charity fundraiser for the Utley All-Start Animal Foundation.
Tara Nurin, among other things producer on the new Tigre Hill movie “The Barrel of the Gun” which should be screening by the end of the year. With her is Sgt. Ray Evers, who hadn’t seen Tara since we all met at the wrap party about 18 months ago.
Breaking News: Scott Stein has joined the Peter Breslow Consulting Firm. Scott joins as a publicist, Director of Security, and Chief Wing Man says Peter. They have some big news about a client that should break with in a few weeks. Scott recently departed from operating Peal on the 20th block of Chestnut Street. Says that exciting things are happening with that property but aren’t public yet. So that would mean that Little Pete’s won’t be putting a meditranian restaurant in there like he mentioned to me a few weeks ago if the property became available.
Photographer Christopher Gabello, Gossiper Dan Gross and Publisher of Where Magazine, who had a runaway hit with Reid Rosenthal on the cover this month, Laura Burkhardt.
(I must go to work now, I will complete these captions over lunch as I have much more to say about this fabulous party, with the who’s of Philly.

A STOP BY STRONGBOX, THE FRANKLIN & ROUGE

After the 2nd event I attended I decided to make my way over to Strongbox but decided to stop at a few of the clubs along the way to see what interesting things were going on. The first stop was The Franklin, which was packed. Spoke to the doorman who told me that a lot of folks came from both The Chestnut and The Boyd Party. Then it was on to Rouge to see who was occupying the outside tables on this warm night. I ran into Aly again who told me I needed to meet someone. Priscilla Bardonaro told me she was one of PCC’s biggest fans. Having moved to Cincinnati with her husband Frank a few years ago, she told me she likes to keep up with all things people Philly by reading the blog. Sweet, thanks. In this pix is Aly Green, Frank and Priscilla Bardonaro, the newly wed Tal Jacobsen, Beth Ann Rosenbluth and Danielle Krupa

then it was on to Strongbox & the Cashman/Boyd Afterparty. The place was jumping, the colors were splashed, the music was jumping, and folks were grooving. I guess it’s still foreign to me to see people dance in place, then stop and continue their talking. The first time I saw this was in San Francisco a few years back. If you’ve ever seen me dance, I need some room, but I guess I let loose cause I’m follow that mantra “Dance like no one is looking.”The triumphant Cashman team relax together. How could they not be ecstatic after such an amazing, successful party.
Drew Coblitz and Sabella Sparano, a Philadelphia based modern and ballet dancer and Martin Joya, an actor and model both based in the Philadelphia area.
Nigel, Anthony Sembello, Uri Jacobsen and Ron Hansen
Tiffany Young and Christopher Nork. Not only is Christopher a new uncle as his sister Carrie Nork Minelli gave birth to a pretty baby girl recently, but he’s now the new GM of Denin. He tells me there are a few exciting things coming up and I should be on the look up for some progressive, aggressive news shortly. Sounds good, even Madonna goes thru a transformation every couple years.
Lot’s of catching up went on at Strongbox, even tho the music was pumping, conversation can still be had. Nicole Cashman (who I get to spend another weekend in AC with at Dusk celebrating Nicky Hilton’s bday), Michelle Mallin (who just a week ago celebrated a birthday), Anthony Sembello and Lauren BeloffWhen I left around midnite the party was still kicking at Strongbox.

PHASION PHEST PHILADELPHIA 2009 brings it with a passion

For many year’s Phasion Phest has been the Delaware Valley’s premier fashion event showcasing upscale fashion from your favorite retailers, it set the standard for what a fashion event should be and this year it delivered again.
Year after year the event grows retaining the crowd it once drew and gathering new Phans; for many years Phasion fest was held outdoors and seemed spacious, but last year it was held at the Loews and because of it’s popularity it seemed to be busting at the seems. This year founder Sharon Phillips Waxman and her committee had an excellent idea and took over the entire mezzanine level at the Loews holding the runway show in one room, and exhibits, cocktails and food in the Millennium Ballroom. This gave it a real feel of the kinds of fashion shows I just attended last week in NYC. Plus everyone got a seat, there was a nice set up for press, which was great since this event draws more camera’s than a Britney Spear’s haircut.
Fur is sometimes a hard sell, but relying on these haute models helped keep the focus on the merchandise and away from any thoughts that PETA might jump out of the audience and onto the stage like I’ve seen too many times at a Donna Karan show. These coats can be found at Zinman Furs in Camden NJ. Phashion Phest was created in 1994 by Sharon Phillips Waxman to showcase fashion retailers from the Delaware Valley. Pictured with Sharon is the Loews VIP Concierge Jonathan Vendrick. Jonathan invited Donnie Brown from “Who’s Wedding Is it Anyway” to the event, but unfortunately he came early and I was covering another exciting event in town. (But if you think you saw him, you were right)
Tony Daggett, Daggett’s catering and model Savannah Gaeckler
Designer Amanda Baro finishing her final year at the University of the Arts, is surrounded by her designs worn by Sierra Lewis, Margo Burley, Amanda, christina Dougherty and Marina Bik.
Notable columnist Nathan Lerner with Convention Center’s Bonnie Grant and son Shane.

Rosemarie Boucher, Bruce and Michelle Shannon and Deputy City Manager Margaret Hughes.
Center City District who recently revamped their website into a really easy and enjoyable read is just about to launch a Philadelphia retail website celebrating Philadelphia’s vibrant retail stores, locations of available retail buildings, and interviews with retailers. Love the site, would like to see some other Philly favorites like Addres, Absolute Abstract, Jimmy Style, London Grille, Eagan’s Jewelery, Stephen Starr, and the Book Trader. Check it out at Philadelphia Retail

The Loews Wine Connoisseurs Gary Meckbach and Louis DeVito (hmm any relations to?)

There was a diverse crowd, but distinctively younger this year. Many folks were from the surrounding colleges that were partaking in the design aspect or were interested in getting into the biz.
Faith Stevenson, Francine Cross, Loretta Webb (Happy Birthday) and Marvella McDaniel

Now 97.5’s Jenny Aust and Ashley Manger. Guess I didn’t win that prize as no one called, bummer.

Stylish and sportin’ Hat’s in the Belfry, Robert Wharton and Christine Ripa (hmm wonder if she’s related to, nahhh)
Model’s Brittany Ann Cormack, Christine Stauffer, Brenna Flynn wearing designs by students from Drexel Universities Department of Fashion and Design & Merchandising, including Drew Ginsburg, Sam Bitter, Jessica Fier and Johanna Holmes.

POTPOURRI: RESTAURANT & NOTABLE TIDBITS

Although I was only gone for a week it seems that alot of things occurred in the City and I took note this past week as I walked about. Shortly the City is going to have a gourmet food store for dogs at 1804 Chestnut Street.

It opens sometime this FallNearby on the 20th Street block a new consignment shop opened last Monday. I like their sign.
they’re now accepting merchandise. Opened Mon – Sat 11AM – 8PM
Further down Chestnut Street in the Shops of Liberty, they’ve replaced the fountain with a Saxby’s Coffee Shop. (The Wachovia ATM is still there TG) Over on Locust Street, that Saxby’s remains a mystery if it will ever open.
At 16th & Walnut someone has made off with three of the stain glass panels in the bus depot. Sad that even if it’s tied down someone has to get their sticky hands on it.

Back in March I Twittered the only thing I thought was notable in the Craig LeBan review of Del Frisco’s Steakhouse review.

and even dedicated it to Craig LeBan. Wasn’t that nice?Over on Walnut Steet I noted that Le Bec Fin joined it’s neighbors and offered Al Fresco dining, although I’m not sure if they’re serious about it, or they realized it was a good marketing turn as to grab the attention of no in the loop passerbyers “HEY We’re Here!!”

Michael Salove Co. announced the completion of a lease transaction at 1515 Walnut Street, with a lease value of more than $2.5 million. The North Face will open in October, and will occupy 4,060 sq. ft. on two floors.

The new Le Méridien Philadelphia, Starwood’s luxury hotel, is expected to open in January 2009. I noticed they put their sign up, and well where else were they going to put it, really?
At 17th & Sansom Hotel Palomar is getting ready to open on October 15
But Square 1682 will be opening the night before on 10/14. The hotel celebrates the history of Philadelphia, and Square 1682 celebrates William Penn founded our fair city. Grub Street Philadelphia took a look inside yesterday. Each of the Kimpton share various theme, the Philadelphia branch will be celebrating art in motion.
Here’s a bad shot of their “Living Room”
and the lighted “mural” above the entrance. But don’t get used to this one as eagle eye Peggy M Trott, Peggy is Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar’s GM, noted to me that it’s just not the right depiction of Ben Franklin that they wanted. Sometime this week a full bodied one will be installed. They are not sure what they will be doing with this one, perhaps someone will take this off their hands like the Kimpton’s kind offer for someone to step up to the plate and accept the 4 tiled murals that used to adorn the elevators in the old Architect’s Bldg. The Kimpton is offering them free to an institution that can cart them away and care for them. As i wrote in an earlier entry when Peggy attended an event at JimmyStyle “All four of them were decorated with intricate mosaics of circa-30s Philly scenes: City Hall, Swann Fountain, the old skyline, the Ben Franklin Bridge. They were carefully removed and are intact and GUESS WHAT THE KIMPTON IS WILLING TO DONATE THEM TO A WORTHY ORGANIZATION THAT WOULD LIKE TO MAINTAIN THEM AND DISPLAY THEM.” Friend them on Facebook

Liberty One Remembered that it’s Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. You still have time to support me in the walkathon I am doing this Saturday with my family in honor of my sister who is suffering from the disease. Here’s the link : Team Doots look for PhillyChitChat in the drop down box

Be careful walking around Rittenhouse Square at night, seems their doing improvements

I had a small snack at Max Brenner Chocolate by the Bald Man the other day. They had their windows open and I had a low fat milkshake.Check out PhillyChitChat calendar on the right side of the page for upcoming events. Remember to send me tips (Buzz @ PhillyChitChat (dot) com) about celebs so I can either write about them or come out and photograph them. Wanda Skyes was eating at Chef Jose Garces Distrito’s the other night, but I was shooting at Strongbox and couldn’t get away, but I thank the patron that was enjoying his dinner for tipping me off. Last night Suzanne Roberts was at Parc. (I saw that myself) I’ve never eaten at Parc. I should go someday, seems popular.

Carie Brescia Debuts her Exclusive Line of Make-up, named after Friends including Aditi Roy, Jennapher Frederick, Jillian Mele and others

Thursday was the perfect storm as far as events go. There were five events I really would have loved to cover, but as I was hired to cover the Strongbox opening at 9, which was later changed to 8PM, I had to make some difficult decisions. (BTW when someone hires me it means they keep the photos I take, but they have no editorial control over what I write on the blog.) Carie is a friend and had asked me months ago to cover her event for PCC, but because of the time change of Strongbox I couldn’t make it, as a favor I did say I would write about her event and include the photos taken by Kelley Faulkner/Vlahos PR.

Last Thursday, Philadelphia’s Carie Brescia, a Makeup Artist-NBC Universal/Spokesperson debut her make-up line available exclusively at Pileggi 715 Walnut Street, PhiladelphiaPileggi Boutique showcased the best in fall fashion from A to Z. The Washington Square women’s clothing store featured the latest clothes and accessories, with hot hair styles from their
neighbors at Pileggi on the Square salon and flawless makeup by Carie
Brescia. L-R Matthew Vlahos, Andrea Chila, Jimmy Contreras and Carie Brescia.

Brescia used the event to launch her new line of cosmetics — including 17 lipsticks named after NBC10’s anchors, like Aditi Roy, Lori Wilson and Jillian Mele Dawn Timmeney, and make-up applications with friends names, OONA, named after Dawn Timmeney’s daughter, each of the squares are represented, Brody, Jennapher Fredrick’s son (I’m thinking if Carie knew me a little longer, maybe just maybe I could have a lipstick named after me? [of course since I stood her up she would have immediately changed the name to one of my nemisis). There’s even a Rosemary Connors, the newest of the news folks over at NBC10.
Philly.com’s Marnie Hall talks with NBC10’s Dawn Timmeney (I think it’s great when media worlds collide)Dawn Timmeney and Where Publisher Laura Burkhardt
Jessica Scott (center) with models sporting the hottest clothes, hair and makeup for fall. Looks (from L-R): Rouched Hour; Smart Investments; Biker Brigade and Party like its 1983.
Erica Atwood (R) with co-workers from the City Representative’s office and the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Yakitori Boy’s Kei Kurimoto (R) with Allison Guarino (Thanks for reading PCC, I really appreciate it)

Tim Lake, Lu Ann Cahn and Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz
Andrea Chila and Jamison Uhler (I would never have recognized him)
Breaking News: Jennaphr Frederick and Jimmy Contreras. Expect to see Jimmy and Jennaphr back on Fox29’s “Good Day Philadelphia” soon — the two are reviving their morning lifestyle and fashion segments in mid-OctoberDonna Coghlan and Dana Spain; Donna says: Street TV coming to Philadelphia. The first city in the nation to have digital information & advertising at Center City Newsstand locations. Look for news, weather, sports and other updates. Coming October 12, 2009. http://www.CenterCityDirect.com
Stepping out on Aditi? Hot Justin Pizzi with equally sexy Carie Brescia. Team Pileggi: Kellan Kredatus, Andrea Chila, Joan Pileggi and Mark
Today is the last day for the Reid Rosenthal auction to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Walk I will be taking, or if you find you have a few spare dollars to sponsor me in the walk I am taking in honor of my sister here is the link: Team Doots Thank you so very much for your prayers, and all the kind emails you’ve sent to me.

STRONGBOX PHILADELPHIA, BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER

This is not Arthur Kade’s Strongbox anymore. Strongbox has morphed into a relaxed, comfortable, easy on the eyes nightclub where anyone is welcome to join the party and the no douche bag sign is on the door. I think when Strongbox opened before the principles were going for a crowd that was on it’s way out. I think they had a great concept for their club but in their haste to open the place they missed a few details that would make it the potential success they were striving for. When they closed last June I wasn’t surprised, I was surprised that they opened again, and even more surprised when I saw the place last night and how they put a little more money into it which made a huge difference. They also hired GM Tim Quinn to run the daily operations. He’s got ideas, and they are all inclusive. No more DO you have to be a VIP to walk through these doors, he’s looking for the everyday person who wants to relax, converse and have a good time.
Sure they still have bottle service (note recession reduced prices), and

comfy table service if that’s what’s on your menu tonight, but you and your friends can also find a place to relax even if your night just includes drinks a la carte and they serve VODKA. (Jennifer Aniston and Chelsea Handler’s favorite drinks)

The most noticeable jazzy elements that really make a difference from the cold, sterile looking Strongbox of last season are the accents, the plasma tv’s, the lighting, the candles, the ambiance. I’m not knocking the decor or design, but what I am saying is these added elements made the club a little less intimidating, and a lot less douchebag. It’s not as much about attracting a certain clientale, although Hutch at the door does make sure folks are dress properly, but now the focus is on the space, and making sure everyone has a good time.
One of the elements that creates the atmosphere are the hidden colored lights that creates hues of purple, red, blue, green and splashes them across the room.Andrew Rosenthal and Elise Gilbert
Reggie Barry & Jackiem ‘Jacky’ Wright; These two are your hosts for “Tuesdays @ Strongbox”. The goal is to create a mixed crowd atmosphere. We will keep the crowd entertained and for those that know us, you never know what special guest (athlete or entertainer) may appear. Hopefully these two will bring down some of the new friends they met on the red carpet at the VMA’s this past weekend.Adam Rotwitt and Donna Coghlan
Troy Vlahos, Ashley tester and Erik Ringoen
Kristin Dudley & Lauren Nelson

Sabrina Tamburino and two of her bridesmaids, Nicole Cashman & Lauren D’Orisio

Boys night out.
Stop by and see Stef, but don’t worry
there’s no need for a designated dance floor, when the mood strikes you just boogie in place
