IT’S A WRAP: DO NO HARM Films Epic Scene at Independence Memorial Hospital Last Night

For the past month or so I’ve been chasing down the actors from the TV movie “Do No Harm” here in Philly. Sure I knew which hotel they were staying at, but I really wanted to get shots on the set. They’ve been shooting mostly interior shots, which made me think the setting of the show was in NYC. The TV pilot is about a brilliant neurosurgeon who has to battle his own alter-ego so that he can live a normal life, so whether I caught up with the set in Rittenhouse, or on Market Street, there were always scrubs around.
Yesterday Phylicia “Mrs Huxtable” Rashad and Steven Pasquale filmed several scenes at One South Broad Street in the offices of Electronic Ink, an international business system design consultancy, which also has cool, contemporary offices which yesterday doubled as Rashad’s and Pasquale’s doctor offices. Finally I caught up with them filming on North Broad Street last night.
and I’m happy to report that the movie is based in Philadelphia, yeah. Philly on the big screen. That’s actor Steven Pasquale getting in the cab. Right before he climb in he says to no one in particular “I’m tired of this place and want out of her.” You might recognize his handsome face from FX’s “Rescue Me” which he co-starred in for 6 seasons, ending in 2011. He’s originally from our neck of the woods, Hershey, Pa and Graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School, in Harrisburg, PA. Another guy I ran into from our neck of the woods, but not in the movie
Jackass’ Chris Raab has a few movies in the works, but last night I found him working as a PA on the set of “Do No Harm”. Who else would have better knowledge than Raab Himself who better than a member of the Camp Kill Yourself Crew (referred to as The CKY Crew) as part of the group of friends or relatives centered around Bam Margera, many of whom are from or located in and around West Chester, Pennsylvania. Some members of the crew are skateboarders, while others are involved either on-camera or behind-the scenes in Margera’s various projects such as the CKY Videos, Jackass, Viva La Bam, Haggard: The Movie, Bam’s Unholy Union and Radio Bam.and another Philly peep Ashley”PhillyFilmGirl” Sindaco in brown jacket. But Ashley wants you to know she didn’t tip me off, and she didn’t. When I was over at One South Broad, earlier in the day, I saw a crew member look at the Set List for the day. And I just photographed it and enlarged it to read it. That’s how I knew.

Shooting at night is difficult, especially since I didn’t have my super dooper awesome camera as I had just shot a black tie gala earlier in the evening, and well I have a favorite camera for that. Anyway, about are the two stand ins for Alana de la Garza and Steven Pasquale who will be filming a scene where they are crossing the street and fighting at the same time.Steven Pasquale and Alana de la Garza , did I mention that the Pennsylvania Convention Center was now going to be Independence Memorial Hospital, well just for last night. It’s amazing how much direction goes into crossing the street. The actors were very in tune with what director Michael Mayer had to say.
Steven and Deena do their own stunts, as this car really comes close to hitting them. I was shocked at how close. Alana de la Garza was on CSI: Miami and Law & Order. Between scenes the two actors were cute and laughing between scenes. Here it is from another angle. The TV movie wraps up filming today and then is set to be carried by NBC as long as advertisers want to invest in it, which will be decided in a few weeks in NYC when the networks showcase their new shows for the fall at the “Upfronts.” The Upfronts are where advertisers check out the networks shows for the next TV season, and then decide which shows they are going to invest in. This happens the 3rd week of May. I’ve always thought of running tours up to NYC to see celebs, this is a great time since they are everywhere, as the networks bring in the star power to convince the advertisers. Who wants to go?You can catch the last scene filming in the Rittenhouse Square area today. Hopefully it’s outside and I’ll get a shot of Mrs Huxable. Nonetheless, Colin Farrell, as I mentioned yesterday, is on board for his film is about to film in April. It’s set in NYC, but don’t despair, they’re filming it here so they’ll be lots of sightings, I hope. Also watch me on Fox 29 Good Day on Monday where I plan to chat about a few of the scenes from this movie, I have video, and upcoming movie news I just heard about.

30th Annual Muldoon’s Saloon and maybe the last, unless

For the 30th year (not in a row as they skipped last year), Tom Muldoon, formerly president, Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB) and David Marshall, chairman, formerly owner of The Rittenhouse Hotel, hosted Muldoon’s Saloon to benefit Project H.O.M.E. The event, which was held last Friday March 20, drew local celebrities and nearly a hundred people from the hospitality community together to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, feature Irish dancers and Irish food, and raise money for a great cause.
Tom Muldoon raises a glass in honor of a job well done, raising much needed money for Project Home, plus provided a nice outlet for the folks of Philly’s hospitality organizations.
DrinkPhilly.com’s Adam Schmidt, Annie Jirapatnakul, PCVB, Natalia Gamarra, PCVB, Marissa Taffer, PCVB and James Zeleniak, Punch Media. James represents Square 1682, which recently had me in for a taste of their spring menu. Square 1682’s Executive Chef Guillermo Tellez recently lost about 50lbs and that has translated into a more healthier, brighter menu. Results? Delicious. My favorites are the lamb short ribs, cod fritters, grilled banging sausages and well just about everything I tried, oh also the humus. The outdoor tables are set up now for you to dine al fresco too.
Laura Cusumano and Rich Johnson
Kim Hallman, Devine + Powers, Rebecca Mackey, Lucy MacNichol, Devine + Powers
It was a Friday during Lent, but there were still delicious corned beef sandwiches, plus grilled cheese ones too.
Alexa Sterbinsky, Brian Sims, and Lindsay Christian. Brian is challenging Babette Josephs (D-Phila) for her seat in the HD-182 district. Babette has refused to debate Brian, which is always suspicious I think, and really shows a lack of respect for the process. Brian says he wants to tell the district, and the City on why he can do a better job. Why doesn’t Babette want the City to know how she’s going to do a better job. Why Babette, just curious.
James Cuorato is the new president and CEO of the Independence Visitor Center and Laura Burkhardt, The Lab – Marketing Business
Susan Spalding and Julie Riedlinger
Radhi Kakarta and Naveen P. Kakarla Named Vice President with Hersha Hospitality Management, the new owners of The Rittenhouse Hotel
David Benton, David Marshall and Sister Mary Scullion. Marshall tells me that he is busier than ever since selling the jewel of the City, the Rittenhouse Hotel. No time for vacations or resting. He’s doing a lot of charity, he still sits on several boards, is chairman of Fox Chase, and he has his company Amerimar Realty Company.Katerina and David Smith. (I saw his ID he really is David Smith. I have a friend named David Smith too.)
Mickey Rowley, Top of the Tower and Dee Kaplan
Bruce and Michelle Shannon, looking tan, fit and happy, at least they will in a few weeks as they settle into their new beach house. They’ll also discover a few new relatives and friends who will need weekend stays, probably me. (I went home after this event and tried to convince Mike how we needed a beach house, but to no avail. He just isn’t a beach person, bummer.) with Tom Muldoon.
Mayor Michael Nutter stops by to greet David Marshall, with Rittenhouse Hotel’s David Benton looking on. In years gone by Mayor Nutter would be a celebrity bartender. Things were definitely different this year. The whole event was put together by word of mouth starting with Bonnie Grant. Last year there wasn’t an event as Tom Muldoon had retired the year earlier, but beings this was three decade long gathering, thankfully she breathed life back into it. It wasn’t as packed as in years gone by, but give it time I bet it could get legs again, and it is for a good cause after all.
6ABC’s Monica Malpass and Laura Burkhardt. The three of us headed out for dinner after the event, over to Seafood Unlimited. While waiting outside for a table, the place was packed, we ran into 6ABC’s co-anchor Brian Taff and Mara Webb. They were headed to Dandelion’s for dinner and to celebrate Brian’s birthday on St Patrick’s Day. They were meeting up with his 4 o’clock co-anchor Alicia Vitarelli.

Photos ST PATRICK’S DAY in Philly: Fashion Fiasco

It was probably the warmest St. Patrick’s Day I can remember. The crowds were out in full force, some getting to the bars at 10AM vowing to last to closing time.

This year lots of festive people dressed as if it were Halloween.
some were fashionable non-the-less

Everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day
Rendezvous on Locust didn’t have much of a line like the traditional Irish Bars. These folks said we’re just as cool without having to put up with the BS line. (Just as cook, & toasted quicker I’d say)
Texting is in vogue

The Black Sheep. Did you know it was a gay go-go bar in the Nineties.
Talk about bah humbug, the Parc brunchers were not sporting green. Guess they were too kool for school.
same with the Rouge crowd.

Rittenhouse Square was busting with people
I’m sexy and I know it
Now this is Philly Street Style
O’Sheas was packed and although they didn’t have a street permit it was hard to contain the crowd in the building alone. A few of the chicks on the balcony acted as if they were in New Orleans and gave the crowd a little something more.

Can you spot the Happy Rooster? Then I went and covered the AIDS Fund Black Tie Bingo, which is on PhillyMag.com today under The Philly Post, under The Scene. Check that out. Then dinner with Toub. When I emerged from Del Frisco’s the streets were quiet. Everyone seemed to have gone home. I did see lots of drama with cabs & leprechauns. Check out PCC other entry today: Celebs I saw this weekend.
(Nothing like having 3 entries to compete with each other, but Philly you keep me busy. Also did you catch me on Fox 29 at 9AM this morning. Love that Mike & Shenielle.)

Closed Eateries, Celebrities Out and About, Upcoming Events

Saturday was St Patrick’s Day, and that PhillyChitChat entry will publish about 10:30AM so check it out. A friend of mine who was doing the bar crawl and told me that the Blue Bear Tavern was closed. I ran over and sure enough the bar that quietly opened according to Grub Street Philly, in September, quietly closed Wednesday night. But on the door there was another sign…Temporarily Closed…so stay tuned. Looks like we have the first casualty from the Yogurt Wars in Midtown Village.
One of my favorite places, Tutti Frutti is CLOSED now, they’ve wrapped up their choux creme and yogurt and returned to NYC. I had been observing the store for a while, saw them close up for the winter last November, then a sign went up saying they’d be back in the Spring, Saturday the sign was gone and well they’re gone too. Phone is disconnected, put a fork in it, they’re … Done in by Sweet Endings, Yogurino and the Yogurt Place on Chestnut. I’m sorry to see them go. I tried to reach owners Kevin and Shane, but to no avail. I’ll miss those guys. (When I shot the above photo I didn’t notice that on the left side the windows were wrapped in brown paper, which I noticed on Monday when I checked it out again.)
Celebrity’s Out and About in Philly: Thursday night “True Blood” actor Todd Lowe, who is in M Night’s After Earth with The Smiths, was enjoying the food at Stephen Starr’s El Vez. He met a few local girls and they bonded. The following night they went to the Farmer’s Cabinet.Bobby Flay and Mike Symon were at Vetri on Friday with the winner from the Alex’s Lemonade auction from the big event they have every year at the Urban Outfitter’s Complex. Later in the evening Marc Vetri, Flay and Symon headed over to Alla Spina.

Carolyn Smith, guest and Will Smith at the 76ers game on Friday night. Will was there with the whole family, Jada, Jaden and green haired Willow. Despite rumors of trouble in paradise between Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, the couple have been caught on camera at several basketball games. Just last Friday they were featured in a big smooch right on the Jumbotron in Philadelphia. (Yahoo) On Tuesday Fela! opens at the Academy of Music. Will and Jada Smith are producers of the musical and I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t show up at the event. (Charlie Mac Twitter)

The British Boy Band One Direction was in town Saturday to make a few appearances.

First they headed across the river to a Walmart in Somedale NJ for a signing. Cover your ears. Over 1000 young girls and their parents showed up. To think I photographed Betty White instead, no one was screaming there (although we were howling with laughter.)

Then they climbed on a firetruck ladder. (This is one or the stranger appearances. Are they insured? )

Then were “arrested” by Somerdale cops.

In the evening they stopped by Q102 for a meet and greet. Over 400 fans greeted them in the parking lot. A few fans heard they were staying at the Palomar Hotel and waited for them there. When they arrived the boys were a bit unnerved by the seven screaming young ladies and were ushered into the hotel much to the disappointment of the devoted fans. The girls tell me they still love them, although a few tears of anger fell in the early morning again when the boys were ushered out to the shuttle that would take them to their next destination at 2:00 AM. On the otherside of town Saturday Night

M Night Shyamalan hosted the After Earth halfway thru party at the former MTV Real House home Trust in Old City. (The film is shooting at Sun Center Studios, Chester .)Leaving the party about 2AM was actress Sophie Okonedo, Jaden Smith, Isabelle Fuhrman and M. Night Shyamalan

The End. PS Thanks for your patience this week with my posting. I did a lot of posting over at PhillyMag.com and that takes up a lot of time. Each entry on either site, takes about 2-3hrs to write. Then you know I was caught up in that Kate Gosselin mess. In hindsight I wonder if it was all for publicity for her. Or what photo did she think I took, and worse why are people so obsessed with her. It was interesting to say the least. Thanks to my advertisers and everyone that hired me this week to shoot their events.
