#PCC10th Series – 25 Favorite Photos of the Past Decade

It was hard to list only 10 of my favorite photos of the last decade, I wish I could have posted 50, but I settled on my favorite 25 with tidbits about each. Enjoy. Thanks HughE

A couple years back Mark Segal, founder and publisher of Phila Gay News, published his autobiography. A party was held in his honor at the Independence Visitor Center was attended by good friends, one of those friends was Sharon Pinkenson, executive director of Greater Philadelphia Film Office

Nicole Miller fashion show at the Bellevue. As someone who photographed several seasons of NYC fashion week, I always concentrate on the front row to see who’s sitting there. This photo ran in the Philly Inquirer in Michael Klein‘s column Inqlings. Favorite
I love this event the UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball. I photographed Mayor Nutter and Mrs Lisa Nutter for 8 years and sometimes when I’m at an event I think I’m going to see them, and don’t. I hope they’re well.

Laura Burkhardt and Where Magazine were so good to me. She would allow me to photograph their magazine shoots if I wanted to. This shot of Jim Werner with The Bacon Brothers and Bunny Sigler appeared in Michael Klein’s column Inqlings, as well as in Philly Chit Chat when I recapped the shoot. Then it appeared on the cover of Where Magazine the following month. I shot so many fun cover shoots including reality star, now realtor to the stars Reid Rosenthal, and Stewart Bradley

Every year John DeBella hosts a turkey drop for charity. Here’s Monica Malpass, a few Parxetts, and a turkey – everyone’s favorite photographer/instagramer Albert Lee at the event. I think as some point Al had worked in radio promotions and started this gig, and continue to volunteer being a turkey when he worked for the Phila Visitor Center.Favorite
Who didn’t have a crush on Jade Starling, in the 80s, as well as Butch Cordova, and the ‘In Bed with Butch’ TV Show. Butch did a promo with BoConcept’s on Chestnut St. where he would live in their “window” for a week I think. He had guests stop by and one of them was Jade Starling. I just love this photo, it was hard to shoot and I had an idea of what I wanted. They had a different idea, and in the end it was perfect. I sent this shot to Klein and Inqlings. It was great to contribute to Klein’s column, he rarely sent me on assignments, instead trusting me that I would bring him something interesting. This was before social media took off, so I was submitting “exclusives” to him. I never wrote about events before he published them.  I wanted to make sure he wasn’t competing with anyone else, including me.
Favorite
After Klein ended his “gossip” column, they did have a replacement, but he wasn’t really committed to local gossip, and I wanted to offer the photos I took to Philly Mag. It just didn’t work out with my “One Shot” photos, it wasn’t the same. I wanted to return to the newspaper, I felt that was the right place. Dan Gross was more open to publishing my photos. I made a smooth transition over to the Daily News in print, and online.  After Dan left, which was devastating to me, I was able to offer the same deal to Molly Eichel, and then Jenny DeHuff. I was thrilled, and it continued to motivate me to capture great “one shots.”Favorite
Big Rube, a legendary entrepreneur at the opening of the Barney’s Co-op store in Rittenhouse.
L-R Renee Reese, GN Kang (we had so much fun), Rube, Michelle Miller (so helpful in my career) and Erin Elmore, reality star and generous allowing me to photograph her at public parties and inviting me to private parties. So much fun.
In the early years, before parties started to multiply, I would photograph a lot of my new friends at private parties, in bars, charity events, even who is sitting at Rouge or Parc eateries. I was creating characters, and scenes in order to make it interesting to read Philly Chit Chat every day. Favorite
The Comcast Light Show, one year they did it in 3D. This is definitely a favorite photo. Favorite
Patty Jackson, legendary radio personality with Fox29’s Mike Jerrick and Alex Holley. Patty is amazing, and I love that one of her assistants takes her “selfies”. They are always perfect. Favorite
Year’s ago there was a website called Philadelphia Skyline. It was incredible, especially since I had been taking photos of the skyline for as long as I’ve lived in Philly and now there was a site like that, with so much more information and sometimes with shots you needed to know someone to get. (aah it was special before drones came along)
It was run by Bradley Maule (c), assisted by photographer Stephen Ives and sorry I can’t remember you on the right.
Erin Elmore Wins Phila Dancing With The Stars1 (Custom)
One of my favorite events – The Sickel Cell Anemia “Dancing with the Stars”, created by Brownstone PR’s Megan Smith. It was an annual event for 3 years. A lot of hard work went into this event, as the “stars” had to practice for 6 weeks before the competition. It was well worth it, and it raised a lot of money. I miss it.Favorite
Being PhillyChitChat, a media outlet, I have gotten to photograph a lot of fun events. This was a Harlem Globetrotters meet’s the Flyers for a charity game. While waiting to go to our seats, this happened. This photo appeared in Metro Philly.
I love what I do, and get to share it with you.
This is one of those business’ that is not really work cause it’s so fun.

A few Shots I took Over The Last Decade That I Love

Good Monday. Sorry I am so tardy today with my blog post. I really need to get back on track. In the begining, and for the first 6 years, I didn’t go to bed til I had the next day’s entry published. Then I discovered sleep and would wake up at 6AM to get the post up. Now I’m just lazy and hit snooze. I’ll set a goal to do better in the next decade.  Here are a 10 of my favorite shots taken the last decade that have nothing to do with events, but everything to do with the beauty of the world.

Love

It took a lot of years to catch this shot as I had envisioned. Not too much snow, the sun out, and the trees still holding onto the newly fallen snow.

Love
I really was at the right time, right place with the orange moon rising just over the Ben Franklin Bridge.

Love
On my way home from work one night, I peaked at the Gates of Hell and got this shot.

Love
One of my first corporate partnerships. Capitol Hill Hotel brought me down to DC to check out their property, as well as write about their year long presidential suite campaign.
I asked if I could come Easter Weekend, which I had heard was near the time of the Cherry Blossoms. I always wanted to see them. They were amazing.
Love
I wish they had left Amor up on the steps, but it did find a nice home near Sts. Peter & Paul Cathedral

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see that at least once a week I post the sunrise or sunset from around Philly.
This is from my balcony. I’m so fortunate to have a beautiful view of Philly. While growing up in SJ, it was my bucket list goal.amish farm (Custom)
I love photographing Lancaster, and of course the Amish. I am always respectful and avoid shooting the front of them.
It is unnerving when they turn around and catch me though.
Love
I never tire of the Parkwaybw (Custom)
Did you know Pennsylvania has a significant Elk population. They are appropriately in Elk County, which is about 7 hours from here in the
Northwest corner of the state. In the Fall they migrate from one mountain to another and it’s a big thing to go watch. It was great.

Love
For my 2nd Anniversary of PhillyChitChat.com I had a party at the newly opened Waterfront Square, hosted by PR Peep

James Zeleniak is the Principal of Punch Media. It was great.

Love

Who doesn’t have this on their bucket list. The best place to shoot Boat House Row, is not from MLK Drive, but from the Spring Garden overpass, with a fairly long lense.

***************

Two Honorable Mentions I took before 2007

Love

On my way to work at Kohn Swift & Graft I shot this just for fun, but ended up selling it as a poster via Modell’s for a couple months.
Anyone have one?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Still my all time favorite shot. I captured this on my way home after work one day in 1996

PhillyChitChat’s 10th Anniversary is Today

I’ve been talking about it for a year now, PhillyChitChat’s 10th Anniversary, but still didn’t know what to say. I jotted a few important things down this morning….

Today is PhillyChitChat’s 10th Anniversary. I’m so excited to have reached the goal I set out to do a decade ago which was to chronicle Philly’s Social Scene and create a media distribution company (which now seems to be called “content provider”) shooting parties and then placing photos, stories gathered daily in media outlets mostly in Philly, but my work has appeared nationally.  Who can forget the car driving down the Art Museum Steps, or Kendra Wilkenson renting an apartment at Liberty One (that appeared in US Magazine after I sold the story to them,) or Kate Plus Eight and her boyfriend at the Red Ball holding hands; (Wow that brought me a lot of hate mail)

7-7-2017 10-12-40 AM (Custom)
Taken at the McDonald’s on South Broad Street in 2007 (Us Magazine)

Since I was a little kid, I was always the one friends and family would come to and ask what the latest chit chat happening, and I enjoyed sharing it; dad called me Hedda Hopper (google it). Fast forward to when I was a paralegal at a law firm, Kohn, Swift & Graf, (yes I took those pixs on the website) where at one time one of the partners told me I had to stop gossiping and concentrate more on my work. Eventually in the 1990s I would become the traveling paralegal of the firm, yes Mike Toub this part is important to my story….

10th

KSG, specifically my boss Bill Hoese, sent me to NYC to work on a great case. I figured out how to live there cheaper than commuting every day thus crossing off a goal I wanted to do all my life – live in NYC. After working 8 – 12hr days, I found I still had time to explore, and discovered I liked chronicling the celebrity nightlife in Manhattan. It was so much fun, and this was before many of the current celebrity sites were online, before FB got big, or twitter or Instagram were added to the Webster Dictionary.

10th

At the urging of Mike Toub (hubby) I started a blog about photographing celebrities, the photographers, the fans, the professional autograph seekers, basically the whole scene called Confessions of a Paparazzi. It was exciting time, I had a knack at finding out info on where the celebs would be, and using the info to my advantage where celebrity photographers would let me tag along with them as long as I didn’t get in their photos. The blog allowed me to share these adventures with a larger audience. I also contributed stories and photos to Perez Hilton and Gawker for links back to my blog.

10th
A few of my paparazzi friends at the Waverly Inn in NYC capturing Anne Hathaway and her boyfriend in 2007

After returning to Philly when the assignment was up, surprisingly to none, I became a professional celebrity photographer. I would continue to travel to NYC to photograph celebrities for the next 5 years after work, over night and then would go to work in Philly the next day very tired. It was a lot of fun. All my vacation days – 4 weeks, were spent living in NYC so I could pursue my hobby.

10th

Thanks to my friends Simon and Kati Curtis for letting me sleep on their Manhattan couch for most of those four years (2007 – 2011).

I met Simon (left) in 2005 during my early days of celebrity stalking, er I mean as a blogger. It was the best of times. It was the day after this photo was taken at our July 4th 2007 Party here in Philly, where Simon, Katie, Mike and I brainstorm a name for my new blog, which would allow me to post and write about happenings, and conversations in Philly.  Simon came up with the name – Philly Chit Chat. That name was a great catch all for what I wanted to cover in Philly. On the right in this photo are my good friends Greta Greenberger , longtime tour director of Philly City Hall and Alan Greenberger. (Eventually Allan would become a deputy mayor under Mayor Nutter. At no time did Allan or Greta ever tip me off to anything regarding the City; and I never asked them. I had other sources and I really appreciate them as I was able to break so many stories that definitely helped propel my blog upward.

10th
Thom Cardwell and Phyllis Halpern (I guess it was before I learned how to pose people)

Let me back up a few months before this, I returned to Philly in Jan 2007; I was really depressed as the nightlife here as far as I could tell was non-existent, or only on Saturday night. I told my neighbor Phyllis Halpern how I wanted to chronicle the scene in Philly as well as photograph celebrities. She brought me to a party and she introduced me to Thom Cardwell who was with the Phila Film Festival, an organization which feted celebrities during their film festivals and sometimes beforehand. Thom along with James Duggan mentored me the for about 6 months,

10th

taking me to parties with “celebrities” and local notables. It’s a good thing our town loves our on air talent, I did too, and I was grateful that they allowed me to photograph them.

7-6-2017 11-36-52 AM
The first photo (March 2007) I had published in Philly press was in Dan Gross’ Philly Gossip Column; Sure this shot is about Vince Fumo meeting Angie Everhart at a movie screening at the Prince on Chestnut, but Vince had a red string on his wrist. I had seen this string before on Madonna, and knew it was to ward off evil. Vince was just about to be sentenced. I told Dan about it and he got the whole story; but when the photo was edited for the paper their wrists were cut off. It drove me crazy, but I was still thrilled to be published. My career in the papers was short lived as Dan told me the DN didn’t have a budget for shots like these, even if they were great shots.

7-7-2017 10-11-26 AM (Custom)
One of the first Inqling’s contributions. Tony Luke Jr. and cast of “The Nail: The Story of Joey Nardone” eating at Victor’s in South Philly

I was a huge fan of both Dan and Michael Klein, Philly Inquirer – Inqlings; probably more of Michael as he wrote nice stories about people, where Dan got juicy with his stories. I knew for longevity my stories had to reflect how I lead my life.  – I was a big fan of Inqlings. I read it every time it was published. A lot of those times they had celebrity sightings from the night before; having worked in NYC with PR/talent I knew he must have been getting tipped off beforehand as columns have deadlines. I convinced him I could get shots of the celebrities at Philly places, and I would also bring him interesting content for his the column. He gave me a shot, and I went on to contribute to his column for 4 years before he retired it. After Mike retired his column I was able to convince Dan to pick up a few of my shots, even if unpaid. To me I needed a great place to put my celebrity shots, and at events I got plenty of them.  First I tried in Philly Mag, but it just didn’t work out. I always liked seeing them in the “paper” or online for the paper. Thanks to both these guys for allowing me to contribute to their columns.

10th

He introduced me to Nicole Cashman,  a maverick in her own right, she’s always had the best clients to cover and the rest is history.  Klein wanted a shot from the opening of G Lounge for the column. It was Nicole’s client.

7-7-2017 8-18-16 AM (Custom)
This is the shot that appeared in Inqlings from GLounge Opening with a guest, then in the brown jacket Dave Warren, John Clark and Gervase Peterson, Survivor star. We had a lot of reality stars in Philly, especially chefs. I first photographed Cheftestant Jen Carroll in 2007, and the rest is history. I would write about her for years to come. We became good friends as well, which unfortunately, I stopped writing about her as much, trying to protect her private life. It’s happened a lot over the years. It’s a good thing as well because it’s allowed me to attend parties and events that other press are not invited to, and often get exclusive shots and coverage at these events as people knew they could trust me. I only wanted what could be published that didn’t negatively effect someone’s life. Sometimes I failed at this, but more often I succeeded.

7-7-2017 8-22-18 AM (Custom)
His debut at XIX in 2011

I have to thank Joey Sweeney of Philebrity too (ie Gawker of Philly). I went to him early on and said I’m going to be writing about Philly, and Philadelphians basically creating Philebrities and I know you like to write about those people; but these Philebrities are going to help me promote charities and charity organizations. He understood and I felt free to begin what I needed to do without the fear of being written about in a negative way. I am highly oversensitive as you all know. Over the years he did write about a few of my Philebrities, who can forget Arthur Kade, and he often linked to stories to expound on them on his site. All of this was hugely helpful, and I appreciate it. When he featured my coverage of the Phillies winning the World Series and then the destruction of Center City, his site was picked up by national sites which drove hundreds of thousands of readers to my site. Phillies Win World Series, Idiots Thank Them by Rioting and Looting

The AfterParty for screening of Night Catches You at Chestnut club, Phila Pa

The AfterParty for screening of Night Catches You at Chestnut club, Phila Pa – Thanks to Philly Style Magazine and Nicole Cashman, who first credentialed me to shoot their parties. Yes it’s true sometimes I didn’t get in. Philly Mag turned me down 2 years in a row back in the day. I’m proud to say I’ve gotten competing publications placed in competitors columns cause, these are important parties happening in Philly. I thank all the publications for trusting me in my decision making. Nicole Cashman was on top of things, she understood what I was trying to do. I wanted to create a scene; I set out to cover events and publish daily. I wanted to be more than the paper which at the time published these parties in the society column once a week, or a magazine once a month. Eventually in the following years parties, and now, parties are held every day of the week. People will show up, they’ll even buy tickets to attend a good party any night of the week.

Then there’s Sabrina Tamburino Thorne who allowed me to cover her life from engagement to wedding, to baby. I can’t thank her enough for being my first muse. After which I found other muse to write about which the audience loved: Sarah Doheny – I coined her nickname “StylePRDiva” , Maria Papadakis, Erin Elmore,

Susie Celek and Julie Dorenbos, Christie Honigman, Kory Aversa and Ian Michael Crumm (I told him write about men’s fashion, your own style and be the star of your instagram) I said when you find success, help someone else achieve success. He’s done a great job and it was great mentoring both of them. Every 3rd year Philly Mag would write about one of my muses.

For many years I was “Paralegal by day, Paparazzi by night” until I parted ways with Kohn Swift 12/31/10, Mike said let’s see if you can make a living doing your blog cause I know you love it so much. I’ll support you for a year. A few months later I realized the only way I could make money was to be hired by PR/Clients to shoot parties as an event photographer, often I would suggest they keep their house photographer if they had one, and I would use the photos took to place in the media as well as on my blog, promote their events on Social Media and pr give them photos for their social media.  I then told my readers I would be starting an event photography business, but would still write as I did the previous 3 years – who, what, when and where of the parties. Shortly after I became a professional event photography, and it’s been growing ever since.

Thanks to Jen Fred, Fox 29 who then said I’d be perfect for Fox 29 in 2011

Fox 29 came calling, where I appeared weekly for about 3 years, these days my work appears weekly. This month, I celebrate 6 years as a regular contributor to Philly Mag with my own column in the magazine. That is my pride and joy. I also create content for  PhillyStyle Magazine, Metro Philly, Phila Business Journal, Liberty City Press, and am often featured on TV news shows, which is very nice.  I’m so glad to have played a part in photographing the City as it came into it’s own in the last decade. I now have 3 photographers that work for me Andre Flewellen, Mike Hirata and Talya Hailey, a business/Managing partner – Lynsie Solomon, and my sister Janine DeFeo who does our scheduling, and invoicing. Most importantly I worked with so many wonderful charities getting the word out on the wonderful work they do, including Gilda’s Club, The Linda Creed Foundation and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

PCCBuzz: Sir Charles Barkley, Poke Deli Comes to Fairmount, Nik The Web Chick and more

Hello Philly peeps. Hope everyone adjusted back to work yesterday. I didn’t. I did submit a few columns to my outlets, but only the Biz Journal published so far.  I have a few more photos to contribute from the over the weekend events, and on Sunday’s when I do my gossip/around town column I will put all the links to the events I photographed there.  Let’s see what’s happening with our friends and around town with PCCBuzz …

The Rye Bread Cafe is barely cold at (2319 Fairmount Ave), and the Engimono (sp?) Poke & Deli is nearly ready to open in the next coming weeks.
Poke is an authentic Hawaiian dish and taking over Philly as quick as you can say “rolled ice cream”  It’s a fresh sushi grade poke bowl restaurant featuring ahi tuna, salmon, or vegetarian choice over a bed of rice or salad the sign says in the window. Rye Bread moved down the street earlier this year. (1711 Fairmount Ave)

Charles
I would have loved a Panda Express in Fairmountm it’s good news for folks in Washington Square West and Market East, the old McDonald’s space at 10th and Market will soon be a Panda Express. (946 Market St.)

Charles
Just down the street will a five Below will be opening soon in the old Lit’s Building. (739 Market Street)

Charles
Excited that The Palm will be opening July 15th, they’ve stated. Can’t wait to have my favorite lasagna dish for lunch.

Charles
Congrats to Richard Bush, who was in the band The A’s. While I was in college it was my favorite band and I would drag my friends around to all their shows. He’s singing the National Anthem before Friday nights Phillies game.

Charles
Congrats to Christopher Wink,  Technically Philly, and has now become the publisher and CEO of the company he founded. More about how that came about here

The Best Fourth of July Fashion on the Parkway July 4th

Happy day after Fourth of July. I’m so beat, as you probably are as well. If you’re not there’s always SIPS tonight. Thank you City of Philadelphia, Jeff Guaracino and his team from Wawa Welcome America, Melanie Sole, Cashman & Associates, as well as Philly’s Special Events office for planning and excuting an amazing event, with a lot of consideration on the set up of the Parkway. I’ve lived on the Parkway for years, and this was the best set up, and viewing of stage and fireworks ever. I felt safe, yet not trapped or burdened by blockage. The security guards were well trained, and very nice. After the rain some of the people in the front VIP section left, and the security allowed the folks in the back to move into those sections.  It was a great time despite mother nature’s dampness. Every year I like to run a column of fashion standouts. This year more than ever, did people dress up in their Red, White & Blue. Let’s see some of my favorites….

I ran into this family a couple of times yesterday, they were dressed perfectly for family day. They told me their sons even had a football

Photos: Cabot Community Celebrity Cruise to Alaska

So proud to be honored and to represent Cabot’s 1100 farmers who own Cabot Creamery Co-operative on the 2017 Cabot Celebrity Cruise to Alaska.  I met more than 60 of the most amazing volunteers and their guests on the cruise that honors volunteers across the nation for their selfless acts of volunteerism.  We spent seven days onboard the Celebrity Solstice and visited the most amazing ports of call including Ketchikan, the Tracy Arm Fjord, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria, British Columbia.  Volunteers participated in social media, grant writing, and fundraising workshops on our days at sea, and we all made great new friends, learning how to be even better volunteers and, oh yes, we ate and we ate and we ate, but I didn’t gain any weight. Mike on the other hand, he’s still exercising twice a day. Thanks Roberta MacDonald, Bob Schiers and Marilyn Russell for sharing the good works of the Cabot Farmers with me over the years.

The ship was grand.

Embarking was super easy. Cabot, especially Cheryl, kept us up to date on all things to know about the upcoming cruise. I also did a lot of research on Cruise Critic, a great message board that I’ve used in the past. I found out that a cruiser should order plastic cruise ticket holders. They were really helpful.

On board I noticed that people affixed Dry Eraser Boards to the metal door when traveling with others to tell them where they were because while at
sea there is no cell service.

We wore these sashes proudly to identify each other as volunteers being honored by the Cabot Farmers. It gave us a chance to chat with other
cruisers about our mission as well as the wonderful Volunteer Rewards program that Cabot Farmers provide.

The Solstice is a magnificent ship with lots of great shopping

The dining areas are amazing. This is the one Mike and I had dinner every night.

Cabot
The center lobby allowed you to see all community floors of the Celebrity Solstice. My favorite spots on the ship were the library, Casino and of course the Buffet. Great spots for people watching.  BTW I won nearly every night on slots at the Casino, leaving the ship with $250. So when people say the slots are tight on ships, not on Celebrity Solstice.

I should have practiced my poker game as July 15, 2017 I’ll be participating in the Cabot Cheese Bad Beat on Hunger Poker Tournament to Benefit the Community Foodbank of NJ. Who knows what could happen, last year Justin Beiber showed up at midnight to play poker.

Thanks Cabot Farmer’s for a trip of a lifetime. It was great to do and see the most amazing things on the cruise, but the reward for me was meeting so many incredible volunteers from around the country who give of their time, money and experience to make other people’s lives better.
That was the best gift for me soul.

Ligne Roset Philadelphia celebrated community and the good work done by Need in Deed and Vetri Community Partnership at a private event hosted on Thursday evening, June 1, 2017 at their Old City location (33 N. 2nd Street). To honor the occasion, they auctioned off two Ottoman armchairs designed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, with special Masai upholstery by Raf Simons. 100% of the silent auction proceeds will go directly to these local charities. Both organizations are doing incredibly important work for the youth of Philadelphia.

The Boyz II Men Breakdown of Broad Street Naming – Plus Welcome America Highlights

Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day for the dedication of the Boyz II Men Blvd on Broad Street. Now the section of the street renamed doesn’t affect folks address who live or do business along that section, as I read on Philly.com comments. People who lived on the street were panicking for those that did live on the street, or possibly had too much time on their hands. This is an honorable mention for  the boyz from Philly who made it big time.

breakdown

The members of R&B’s legendary Boyz II Men were honored Saturday June 24, 2017 at their alma mater, Philadelphia High School for the Creative & Performing Arts on Broad Street in South Philly (although when the guys attended the school was located on 17th Street), when the City named a section of the street after them from Christian and Carpenter — Boyz II Men Boulevard. Boyz II Men consisted of 4 guys from Philadelphia (Michael McCary, Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, and Shawn Stockman) who went on superstars with songs like  “End of the Road”, “Motown Philly” and  “I’ll Make Love to You” .

breakdown

When I arrived for the 11AM ceremony, the honorees were inside the Philadelphia High School for the Creative & Performing Arts on Broad Street doing print press, as well as posing for photos while enjoying Tastykakes and other Philly delights. Back story: The Boyz met at the school, but not this school. At the time they went to school it was located on 17th Street. First out the door was Nicole Cashman, CEO of Cashman & Assoc. Melanie Sole, who handles the Welcome America press, and behind her in the blue shirt is Welcome America President and CEO Jeff Guaracino, who’s team produces July 4th in Philadelphia – Wawa Welcome America

Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, Michael McCary, and Nathan Morris met during the 1980s while attending the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. A few years back Michael McCary left the group, but Shawn Stockman honored him by wearing an original Boyz II Men shirt.
