Philly Style Magazine’s Best of Style 2017 – The Most Fabulous Fashion

Philly Style Magazine held their annual Best of Style 2017 party last night at the Kimmel Center. The theme this year was “Around The World”.

HD1_5281 (Custom)

Over 1200 fashionable guests enjoyed food tastings from local Best of Style winners, including Little Lion (so many people wanted to know or asked me who was serving the sliders, it was them), Fine Palate (I loved how FP put all the forks in a big box ), HD1_5222 (Custom) Classic Cakes, Seasons 32 and many others while dancing the night away by CTO Entertainment, who’s been playing all the style events for over a decade.

Lauren Colabelli wearing Alice + Olivia and John Colabelli, publisher of Philly Style Magazine

There were so many beautiful dressed attendees, many wearing the very popular neon colors, which did my heart proud. You know I don’t want to see any black during the warmer months; although there are a few exceptions to my rule. It was hard for me to narrow it down, as usual, but I chose my favorite 24 photos. Some of these outfits are good examples of what to wear to a cocktail party.

7-28-2017 10-04-55 AM(I took a shot from a different angle at same spot, but this is the winning shot that she sent me)

As I made my way down Broad Street, I notice a fairly large crowd in front of the newly opened Palm restaurant. It’s back and better than ever. I really think the new Palm is going to be the new see, and be scene hot spot. A stand out in the crowd there was Francesca Ruscio looking stunning in House of CB.
HD1_5293 (Custom)Terry D’orsio and Ann Catania, Ten Pennies arrived to the party in style.

BOS17
Actress Kristen Alderson looking stunning, attended with her mom Kathy. They came up from the shore to enjoy the hottest party of the summer, as many of the other guests did as well. Check out Kristen in the latest issue of Philly Style Magazine, she fills you in on what she’s been doing since she left General Hospital.

BOS17
I caught up with Joseph Diorio with Buffy Harakidas and her former co-worker Ryann Olivia, who’s now over at Cheerleaders as Marketing Director working with another stunner in fashion – Vivian CamilleBOS17
Happy birthday earlier this summer, stunner Jill Rizen here with fashion stylist to the stars Alissa Frederico. Over the past 2 years her career has just blossomed like the Flower Wall she’s posing in front of; this morning she was live on Fox 29 chatting summer style with Jenn Frederick – down the shore!! BOS17
Seriously the best dressed couple where-ever they go, the next, if not now, Philly Power Couple.
This past year they both made big moves in their careers: LR2 Custom tux wearing Brandon M. Morrison is now the COO at PRDC Properties while his lady love Stacey Kracher, wearing Saint Laurent, is partnering with Ajay Raju on projects they will announce soon.

After our time at PSM Mike and I slipped out and headed to

It was delicious, try the duck. Sit at the bar too, friendly bartenders, plus great people watching as well
Spotted Rachel Vigoda – Eater Philly there with her NYC counterpart in town for a convention.

Conni Alexandrian McDonnell, Touché Accessories (get your glam on for Diner en Blanc) and Youtube star daughter Anya Alexandra

Rahel Solomon and Melody Roy, both of CBS Philly
She and Jim looked fabulous on the Friday morning news, and not a hair out of placeHD1_5208 (Custom)Dmitry Aybiander and Irina Sigal wearing her own creation.
BOS17Feeling my age I asked Alexa Scaltrito on the right, if her outfit was inspired by Bo Derek, she never heard of Bo Derek, and our conversation circled the drain with the mention of the movie “10”. We settled on Marilyn Monroe’s famous birthday dress as possibly the inspiration for her sexy frock from Fashion Nova as her friend Ashley Gallo gave us eye popping fashion all night in House of CB.  I think these outfits are worthy of The Kate Beaver – Hair of The Dog Fashion Nod 2013 .
Later in the day when I was chatting with Rahel Solomon, she had no idea who Bo Derek was either, or that Julie Andrews ever flashed in the movie. “OMG not Mary Poppins” Rahel said. Exactly that’s why she did it….
HD1_5291 (Custom)Queen of the original barely there dress – Kate Beaver on the scene at #BOS17 with beau Scott Allison

A Decade of Philly Style Magazine Parties in Photos….

A Decade of Philly Style Magazine Parties in Photos….

Still celebrating PhillyChitChat’s 10th Anniversary. The days are winding down and I still need to showcase Best Dressed of the Decade, Best Events of the Decade and ChitChat’s 10 career moments. When reviewing the photos I’ve taken over the decade I kept coming across great moments that occurred at Philly Style Magazine parties.

7-27-2017 1-37-44 AM (Custom)

Tonight is PSM’s annual hot list party, so I thought I’d list a few moments that made a difference in Philly Chit Chat’s career. Nicole Cashman has represented PSM for the decade I’ve been covering the scene, and she credentialed me for the first PSM party, after Dana Spain sold the magazine to Niche Media ushering the magazine into the next century of luxury living.

Style
Congrats to the man, John Collabelli who has been at the helm of Philly Style Magazine from it’s inception over a decade ago

Style

As I wrote in 2008, a few months after Mayor Nutter took office.

TGIF was more than that last Friday evening as Philadelphia Style Magazine kicked off the re-launching of their magazine; the party was held at CITY HALL in the courtyard, that’s right PHILADELPHIA CITY HALL COURTYARD. City Hall is now hosting events again after the long dark period of vacancy, the lights are on, the veil has been lifted, the building has been returned to its citizens. (source)

I’ve been contributing to Philly Style Magazine for at least 5 years, more this year than every. A few years back PSM featured a shot I took of Jill Scott at the Academy Ball. What a thrill. At least 5 times a year I get a shot on this page.

Style

In this months magazine I have Kevin Hart.

Style
At many of the Philly Style Mag parties I’ve gotten great photos to place in Mike Klein’s Inqlings column, as well as fantastic stories.

Style
I noticed that cover shot feature Terrence Howard autographed the mock up cover backwards, and upside down. You have to look in a mirror to see what he wrote. AMAZING!!

Another great connection. Sharilyn Drewen Vidal and Juan Vidal always at PSM parties. Sharilyn‘s
sister is Suzanne Drewen, who I went to Wesley College with; we became fast friends and over summer break in 1982 we hung out. I introduced her to my best friends from Paul VI High School and she ended up marrying one of them. Who later forbade her from every contacting me again after I came out gay. So we didn’t chat with each other for about 2 decades. At Suz’s wedding, Bill my other bff from high school, met Suz’s other sister and got married. They’re still married today. Pretty cool.

#PCC10 Anniversary: Favorite Tear Sheets

Hello Monday, oh wait I forgot to publish this yesterday… after a fairly awesome weekend weather wise, this is not how I want to face my Monday. So let’s chat Tear Sheets. A Tear Sheet is a press clipping of your work, it can be your client in the news, an event you produced, or for me a photo I placed or was picked up by the media. It is important you keep these tear sheets for your own records, cause it’s kinda exciting to get press, and it’s good when you’re going after your next job to show your client what you can do for them, and for me in the beginning it was good when I was credentialing myself to get into events.  It usually takes a few Tear Sheets before you would be considered legit to get access to events.

Tear
This is one of my favorite photos and moments in my career, but I really goofed with this photo, I never submitted it to my wireservice, I was caught up in the excitement of everything. A similar photo ran in People Mag, but it was bought from the Phila Inquirer photographer, something that is nearly never done. it was taken from Sky Philadelphia.

This was significant as it was the first time I placed Marilyn Russell in the newspaper. It was the beginning of our close friendship as well.  This was a Kory Aversa event, and he asked me to invite a few people to an event at his client Penny Ordway’s spa Eviama, and I invited Marilyn. It was also her bday and he got a cake and it became picture perfect for the Daily News.

I Instagramed a shot of the sledders the year before and Cecily Tynan picked it up. It was shared thousands of times, and liked by more than 6ks people. (It was also picked up by national news as well) Every year I send her a shot like this, if it snows more than 8 inches as that’s what you need to sled on the steps.

#PCCBuzz The PALM is Popping, Nights In Venice Floats on Saturday, Pauly Shore, Engagements & Babies

Ohhh Good Friday, that doesn’t sound right, hmmm hey all you summer hour folks. I had no idea people had “summer hours”. I stopped by my old law firm yesterday, Kohn, Swift & Graf. No one could do lunch because of something called “summer hours” where offices dismiss on Friday at 2PM. That’s great for them, I should do that too. Hope you have an awesome weekend. I can’t thank you enough for your generosity in your support of my blog, and brand. I’m so grateful. Let’s see what’s happening to others this week. I scoured social media and this is what I have found….

Nights
The Palm opened exactly when they said they would on July 15. I heard it was packed. Some of the folks that were spotted Saturday night were Mr. and Mrs. Rubin, who came up from the shore to be there on the first night. Others around the room were Palm affectionados Don and Renee Freedman,  Sharon Pinkenson and Joe Weiss were also there, Nino and Carol Tinari, Albert & Paul Nipon, Harvey Snider (cardiologist), Paul Rosen, Esq. & Wendy, Stephen and Sylvia Feinberg, Congrats to Owner/CEO- Wally GANZI, Paul Sandler, GM, Jonathan Blanton, Asst Mgr., all of who were there on Saturday night. Through out the week there were regulars spotted former Gov Ed Rendell, Mayor Jim Kenny and I hear Jerry Blavat has been there every night. Spotted during media night was Roberta Popito, Eddie Keels, Marilyn Johnson, Lily Williams, Emily Tharp, Al For, A.D. Amorosi, I love the new compact, intimate, dining room. It’s definitely the new and improved see and be seen scene. The bar area is great too. When they told me it was in the dining room, I thought smack dab, no it’s to the side, and there’s a half wall between the dining tables and the bar area. Definitely a great first date spot where you want to be a little intimate, while not being spotted by your exes. Food and service is excellent as always.  Thanks to Aimee Cicero, Laura Burkhardt and Daniel Briones for dining with me and helping open those enormous lobster claws.

#PCC10thAnniversary CLIQUECAM PHOTO BOOTH SHOTS, oh so fun

Thanks to all my friends who came out to celebrate PhillyChitChat’s 10th Anniversary. It was truly a remarkable and memorable evening. It was an invite only party, most for people I’ve photographed for 7 years or more, and friends who’s phone numbers I have in my IPhone. We raised a lot of money for the American Foundation for Suicide Awareness. I realize I forgot a few key people I adore, and I really should have reviewed the list more than once before I sent it to my extraordinary party planner Lynsie Blair Solomon. These are shots from the CLIQUECAM PHOTO BOOTH. I love what people do in the booth. Thanks so much CLIQUECAM for being our photo booth. I love them.

CliqueCam
Nearly 300 guest wearing tropical colors attended the event held at Aqimero at the Ritz, danced to the tunes of DJ Eddie Tulley, enjoyed cocktails from Southern Wine & Spirits, posed for illustrations by Denise Fike and in the CliqueCam photo booth. Thanks to DJ Sound & Lighting Inc for taking care of the AV and OPS for security.
Nearly 10,000 was raised for American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.

And to Lynsie Blaire Solomon LLC for producing the event and putting it all together. I had did not have time as it was the Social Season, then I took the Cabot Charity Cruise and well she did it all. This was the 3rd big event she’s done for me, and I’m so glad she decided to go into the consulting business for non-profits, individuals and business strategy. PhillyChitChat 10th Anniversary – The Most Outrageous Celebrity Shots of the Decade Shot in Philly

In another series celebrating PhillyChitChat’s 10th anniversary I have an entry celebrating a decade of Celebrity shots. I wear many hats as Philly Chit Chat, covering fun events, gala, store openings, and my favorite celebrities around town.

10th
as I mentioned in the Metro Philly paper today, Stephen Starr has a way to the celebrities hearts. He always gets them to his eateries. Here’s Gwen Stefani leaving Morimoto in Old City; she was with her entire family, but glossy mag readers really only want to see Gwen. Sometimes Klein would tip me off, sometimes someone from the eatery, in later years I would troll Social Media for chatter. This tip came from my wireservice WENN in NYC about 11PM on a Thursday night. Gwen gave it up as we say in the business – eye contact and full body fashion,

10th
Kendra Wilkinson what a phony (I read her book and tweeted such), everything she did was calculating for her brand, including her storyline. There’s no way I believe her husband cheated on her. They were in wedded bliss, which equals low ratings as it’s boring. But that didn’t stop me from photographing her every chance I got as the readers loved her and her drama. For awhile her husband Hank played for the Eagles. I got a tip that they were going to move into Two Liberty Place, which had recently become condos. I got the scoop and I sold it to In Touch Magazine for a couple hundred.

10th
Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro on the set of Limitless, Phila Pa;

OMG Thank you Bradley Cooper for being so hot, and from Philly and having a huge fan base here, even a girl that walks around with your stiff cardboard cut out. I read about her in the Inky. Who doesn’t want to photograph you. I remember once you were eating at Parc, there goes that Starr restaurant again. I didn’t have my long lense on me, and am always to shy, awkward to shoot someone right in their face. So nice of you to walk across the street in my direction so I could get a shot. Amazingly no one took notice cause who would have thought Bradley Cooper would be strolling through Rittenhouse Square. – This is Bradley and Robert DeNiro filming Limitless at 21st and Market on a cold, cold day/ It was about 10F. I was across the street and this time with my long lens.

Brett Eldridge with Giraffe for Molly (Custom)
The Philly Zoo arranged for country superstar Brett Eldredge to feed a giraffe before heading to his concert at Wells Fargo. His people did not like this photo and asked that I didnt publish it in the Philly Daily News column. I gave Molly Eichel a different photo, but we did have a laugh over this one. What the heck is so bad about this shot, cat got your tongue?

Speaking of bad moods and bitchiness, Jeff Daniels, boo hoo, enjoy this smile he’s a grouchy old man. OK backstory a few years after this shot of him on the Philly shot, and forgettable movie with the lovely Lauren Graham, who I adore, Jeff came to Philly to receive an award from the PFS> He was so demanding, and bitchy and I wrote about it. Well he had the powers to be ask me to remove my complaint on PhillyChitChat of his bitcheness. Klein wrote about it in his column saying he was just grouchy from appearing on Broadway 6 days a week during that time, and he was just tired. OK fine but I had already shot him a few years earlier on this movie and he was bitchy then too. Some people are just bitchy, they should own it. Diva dude. I did remove it cause Jeff threatened to never set foot in Philly again. He never did even after I removed my entry. blah Jeff.DSC_6917 (Custom)
Oh and then there’s Kate Plus 8 – Kate Gosselin. Here she’s filming on the Art Museum Steps on a cold cold day in 2010. I remember because I took a little bit longer on my lunch hour from the law firm, the next day I was let go. I don’t blame them, I had stars in my eyes. (they did let go of all the paralegals so it might have been an economy thing, stupid. That’s a political joke and if you were around in the 90s you’d know it.) Anywho a few months earlier Kate G was at the Red Ball and I tweeted that I’d have big news on Fox 29 on Monday about her. I had no idea that was her boyfriend/bodyguard with her, had I ever watched the show I would have been all over them with shots’ no I saw her get her fortune told and grabbed a shot. She was a no photos girl that night. Well that’s what I talked about on Fox 29, but was blasted by her haters for covering up her relationship with her bodyguard. Geez people had I know I would have gotten them, that’s the money shot. The story was still good and I was able to sell it to People magazine. Kate ended up blocking me forever on Social Media. Jon Gosselin and I are now facebook friends and I report about him more often these days. 10th
Oh and how about that time I tweeted to the fans, Nicki Minaj is running late but she’ll get her shortly. She’s getting a police escort from the radio station to FYE. MS Pink then blasted me “WTF is it your business”. Followed by days of her followers blasting me, but also increasing my followings, so thanks. DSC_8757 (Custom)

Miley Cyrus was my best shot ever. When her fiance Liam Hemsworth came to town to film, she came in tow. I greeted them at the airport after getting tipped off by my agency. It went well. The next day a diner at Capital Grille tipped me off they were there for lunch. Great shots, made People Magazine. Then I got busy with chitchat events, but I was still reciving tips on where she was eating or shopping. I sent her tweets telling her I knew she was having Italian, of Chinese or whatever she was doing. I wouldnt be shooting her at that time but later when she wasn’t enjoying alone time with the boo, maybe she’d “give me” a photo. That time came when she was recording her CD at Sigma Sound, which I knew as well. She’d be there at Meek Mills pop up concert, and I was there too. When she went to leave I followed her down the stairs and said Miley, I’m phillychitchat, she already knew and she turned around and gave me this great shot.

The only shot of Demi Moore in Philly when she was filming. She never gave it up for anyone else. I told her give me a shot and I won’t take her for the rest of the time she was in town, and I didn’t. I got lots of tips but I always honored my word. When she had dinner at Continental Grill with the whole family including Ashton Kutcher, the story appeared in People Mag with this shot taken weeks earlier as it was the only full view shot of her. Other photogs tried to get shots, but she always had her hands in her face

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez at Shops of Liberty Place, Phila Pa getting a smoothie

This is and was always my favorite shot and celebrity moment. A reader tipped me off that Justin Beiber and Selena Gomez were in Rittenhouse Square. Well they were but when I got to Chestnut Street I heard screaming and ran towards it. I got close to Shops of Liberty Place and people just pointed towards the doors. I ran in and caught them at the Monster Smoothie counter. They asked me not to shoot them at the counter, which I complied. I said Justin where is your security guards, he had none. He wanted to be treated like a normal person he said. Well tell that to the 150 girls screaming for his love, which were surrounding him. I grabbed a Shops of Liberty security guy and said escort them out of her to their hotel, which I knew was the Rittenhouse. As they were leaving Justin gave up this shot, but said don’t follow us. OK but 150 girls will be following you, I guess that was less noticeable. I didn’t follow them. The security guard came back said he took them all the way back to the hotel, and he tipped him a $150. Selena’s probably thinking, normal, we’re not normal. I don’t want to be normal. Why aren’t they screaming my name?

#TBT #PCC10th Series: 10 Things That Disappeared in the Past Decade

Good Thursday. It’s Throw Back Thursday. Whenever I walk around the City I have a camera on me, or these days a phone. Who da thought a phone would take on the camera industry, or that we’d even have personal phones. WOW, that’s amazing to me as someone who grew up in the 70s/80s. I remember when everyone got cable and that was a moment in time, which brings me to today. Some beloved places in Philly are gone, or have become mainstays of today. Here are a few of my notable choices….PS I included a few shot before 2007 bringing the total pixs to 17. DSCN6977 (Custom)

Remember this mural a guy had painted on the side of his house in Rittenhouse. He did it without a permit. The neighbors didn’t like it and took him to court. Eventually it was painted over. I passed the wall recently, it’s boring.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Do you remember The General Store on 20th Street run by Patty and her mom. Such a fun novelty store. It took hours to really enjoy each trinket. Now it’s a hair salon.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I think this mural was called Commerce. The building was torn down to build the first Comcast Tower. It was always one of my favorites, as I passed it on my way home from work. So much happening in it.

Decade
Oh where are you today my guy hailing a cab in the rain.

Created by J. Seward Johnson, it stood at 17th and Locust (pictured here) before it was donated to the Prince theater by Joseph Shine (according to the Philly Weekly in 2005). After years of financial problems the theater was put up for sale, but to pay off debts a lot of the theater was sold off to pay bills. My source tells me that since the Umbrella Man was donated to the Prince Theater owners, they had the right to sell it and they did. I hear they sold the $120,000 work of art for a mere $25,000. Weeping still.  (source)

Table for two in the trolley is what I used to say when I ate at the Spaghetti House on Spring Garden St. The SH was in a huge factory, which is now housed by Union Transfer music venue. You know how big it is, well it was so popular in it’s day, the 1990’s, there was always a line to be seated. In the 00’s the local restaurant scene exploded and the Spaghetti House’s popularity plummeted. I took this photo the night Michelle Miller brought me to her friends birthday party, held in the trolley. Special guest was his BFF Amber Rose. She had just begun dating Kanye West. More on that story when I cover the 20 Best Celebrity Stories in the past decade.

Ohhh Denim, what a great run. It opened a tad before I started PhillyChitChat (PCC or hashtag #PCC10th), and it opened with a bang. Nicole Cashman was the PR in charge of the party, and I hear it was a dandy good time, it had to be after she sent the invitations out frozen in a block of ice.  Later the space became Whisper, and is now CODA, a live music/DJ spot packing them in on the weekends.

DSC_4553 (Custom)
This building at 1904 Chestnut St used to be a Little Pete’s diner, then it was a hot nightclub called Pearl, run by our friends who owned Denim – Wayne Z, Scott Stein and Brett Perloff; then it became Industry Mix, then it became a restaurant/nightclub Kokopelli  and now it’s part of the property that makes up the project Pearl Properties started in 2013

which I broke back in 2013. It was quite a big story as Pearl Properties bought up 4 properties. They always owned the plot of land right next door, I had known. They were reluctant to sell it to Little Pete, even though he wanted it to use. They held on to it for 10 years before they made this move. After the last concept failed, it was rumored that the guys from Mac’s Tavern were going to rent the space for an uptown Mac’s, but when Little Pete got an offer he couldn’t refuse, he sold the building to Pearl Properties. I remembered he owned the plot next door and had a friend pull the records for the other buildings on both sides of these properties. Sure enough the QDoba and the Doggie place had been sold. I waited until the day before the sale would be public to break the story. I wanted to make sure the employees at QDoba had been told. You don’t want to get your pink slip via the news. I think it was one of the biggest retail stories I broke, that and Walgreen’s going into the old Border’s bookstore.

Decade
Strongbox (2029 Walnut St) opened just as the recession hit in 2009, and it struggled. Not only because of the economy, but because of it’s cred which was “If you look to the right and there’s a VIP, and you look to the left, and there’s a VIP, then you’re in the right place, you’re a VIP.” I always cringed when I read that; Philly at the time, didn’t like VIP’s, but secretly wanted to be treated like a VIP, just don’t advertise it. Strongbox was created by the Denim/Pearl guys Wayne Z and Brett Perloff , who converted the former Monkey Bar into luxe lounge with black leather banquettes, intimate bottle service tables, an elevated DJ booth, gorgeous chandeliers and high-gloss black paint to enhance the intricate ceiling designs. Quite a few celebrities did hang out there before it quietly closed two years later, including Gerard Butler, Jamie Fox, and Charlie Mack.

Decade
This used to be headquarters of Packard Motor Car and in later years was First Pennsylvania Bank. Today it’s Del Frisco’s Steakhouse.   Built in 1924 on the southeast corner of 15th & Chestnut streets, the Packard Building is a 407,000-square-foot mixed-use tower rising 26 stories. In 2000 the building underwent a complete renovation by developer David Grasso of Grasso Holdings, the building’s owner. It includes Del Frisco’s (photo above) office and retail space and 153 luxury residential condominiums know as the Packard Grande.  In recent years it’s become Roost, a long stay term hotel. Before it became Del Frisco’s, rumors swirled that it would become a B.B. King’s Blues Club. I was really hoping that was going to happen, as it’d be an attraction for celebs and I could do my paparazzi thing, that was a high priority in my early years of PCC.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOh how I miss you Lateran of Liberty Harriet Tubman Mural: When I heard you were being torn down, I ran over and took a million photos. This is one. My childhood friend, Leslie Still, first told me about the underground railway, and Harriet Tubman. I always admired her bravery.
This 70 foot high mural can no longer been seen on the west side of a building in the 9-hundred block of Chestnut Street in Philadelphia.  It was created by the Philadelphia Mural Project in six weeks at a cost of $45-thousand dollars in order to be finished in time for the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia in July of 2000. The inscription on the mural contains the names of Philadelphians who played important roles in the underground railroad. The building it was painted on was torn down in June of 2002 to make way for an expansion of the parking lot. A spokesman for the city of Philadelphia said the decision was made due to the economic benefits of the additional parking.  No wall mural is a permanent piece of art. The average life of a wall mural is 20 to 25 years. Harriet Tubman’s Lantern of Liberty lasted 23 months. (source)

Formerly the Philadelphia Youth Center, The Barnes Museum was built here. Thank You from your neighbor.Decade

This building really should have become a museum as the Philadelphia Sound is the fabric to Philly’s music history. These days it’s just a hole in the ground waiting for SLS to build their hotel. Decade
It was sad to see this historic fire station torn down, as well as several other beautiful building, but now we have a fabulous extension to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, and on the right will soon be the new aLoft hotel. I went by last night, it’s progressing.

So many beautiful memories on this entry for me. Keep cool and have a great day.
