City Announces New Leadership for Office of LGBT Affairs

Today, the Kenney administration announced that Amber Hikes will take the helm of the Office of LGBT Affairs as Executive Director.  She will begin this post on March 6th.

Office “My diverse experiences in the vibrant Philadelphia LGBTQ community first as a student, then as a professional, then as a business owner and finally as a community leader, afford me the unique opportunities to view LGBTQ community work in this city from multiple vantage points,” said Hikes.  “I’m eager to serve my community during this pivotal time by increasing the accessibility of the Office, listening to community members and implementing initiatives to serve LGBTQ Philadelphians more efficiently and effectively.”

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Social Work Program, Hikes has served on the board of the William Way LGBT Community Center from 2011 through 2015, and was an organizer for the Philadelphia Dyke March from 2007-2015. She currently serves full-time as director of Upward Bound, a federally funded student service program at California State Long Beach providing education and resources to low income, underserved students. Hikes has worked with the national organization since 2009, and spearheaded the successful writing of a multimillion-dollar Department of Education grant to refund the Upward Bound program at the University of Pennsylvania for five years.

Additionally, Hikes organized seasonal community service events and fundraisers benefitting LGBTQ organizations such as GALAEI, William Way Community Center, Attic Youth Center, and ACLU-PA among many others.

*I’ve known Amber for several years, and I’m ecstatic for her. She is a great community organizer, and a friend to everyone
Congrats Amber

The Tattoo Convention was in town and look who got New Ink, Philly Gossip ++

Good Sunday, hope you’re keeping dry today. I’ll be working columns, then I’m headed to Panorama for a Valentine’s Day Pawty with my best canine friend, to benefit Saved Me. Panorama is hosting an afternoon cocktail party, where guests can celebrate the holiday with their beloved pets.  Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit local non-profit www.savedme.org. Then taking a tour of the new Blue Gin Distillery, then watching the GRAMMY’s, so excited. What a line up. OK Here’s some fun Philly Gossip this Sunday.

Actor James McAvoy was walking around with his Philly girlfriend Saturday. So far he’s gone to Wawa, and CVS Local artist Larry Collins has a drawing that is featured in the movie James is in, M Night’s Split, which I’m sure will be near the top of the Box Office again this weekend. Split as you know was filmed in Philadelphia last year.

This year we have an awesome movie with Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston. Here are the extras cast by Heery-Loftus Casting backstage at the Kimmel Center on Thursday where they shot a scene.

Saturday Shots – A few Fun Shots Taken This Week & Notable News

Hope you had a great week. Thought I’d drop a few shots on Saturday here. Many of you may not follow me on Instagram where I post about 4 shots a day, a lot are newsworthy, which means a new store, a sale or something interesting. Plus I shoot things in general and just run out of time to post them, maybe on Saturday’s I’ll post them here.

Saturday

On Thursday I headed to the Untouchables film set, which was at the Kimmel Center. It was still snowing, but worse it was freezing. Thankfully when I arrived Kevin Hart’s limo had the engine on, so I knew it wouldn’t be long before he popped out to head back to his trailer.

Saturday

I could have stayed and caught a few more of the actors, but I noticed the trees were stunning with their new snow coats (That’s the wardrobe trailer on the right – this is the shot that told me get out and see beauty.)

PRDC’s New Project The Lincoln Holds a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Party

Decaying, destitute and days away from condemnation and certain demise, The Lincoln Apartments (1222 Locust Street) has been revitalized into a modern and sophisticated 44-unit luxury apartment community in the heart of Midtown Village.

HD1_2529 (Medium) (Custom)

The Lincoln was a popular apartment building in the neighborhood since the early 1900’s until 2006 when a fire gutted the Art Deco Style building, and remained that way until PRDC acquired it in 2013, and saved it.

HD1_2632 (Medium) (Custom)
PRDC put plans in motion almost immediately, and they did a great job. I had friends who lived in the building, and although it was decent living, it was dated. The space is so gorgeous now, it’s the best boutique apartment building in the City, they did a great job restoring the building to it’s original grandeur.

On January 31, 2017, PRDC Properties celebrated the transformation and re-opening of the historic Lincoln in Midtown Village. Roughly 300 guests were in attendance for the ribbon cutting including former professional boxing champion, Bernard Hopkins, Councilman Allan Domb, City Representative Sheila Hess, and Councilman Mark Squilla. Attendees also enjoyed a cocktail reception catered by B Smith Catering and tours of model apartments, penthouse suites, and the common rooftop area.

EXCLUSIVE: Julianna Margulies Joins Untouchables Movie – Plus many more notables

Yesterday I was on the set of Untouchable, which is filming in the Philadelphia area as well as NYC for the next 6 weeks. (source) The movie is based on The Intouchables an original French-language film which grossed $416 million overseas and $10 million domestic. It told the based-on-a-true-story take of an aristocrat (Francois Cluzet) who, after being injured, hires a young man (Omar Sy) from the wrong side of the tracks to be his caretaker.

Margulies
Julianna Margulies arrived late in the afternoon. She’s not on the IMDB but I can tell you she plays a love interest of Bryan Cranston‘s named lily. Here’s she’s headed to make up and costumes to prepare for scenes that’ll be shot today. Poor Julianna I completely fanned out and told her how much I loved The Good Wife. She thanked me, and went on her way as I was enveloped in joy. Julianna Margulie (Medium)
Afterwards she headed to the set to meet the actors. (Interesting flared, threaded jeans. Is this a new style?)

In between takes Kevin Hart would pose for photos with fans

HD1_4116 (Medium) (Custom)

As would Bryan Cranston. I had a chance to chat with both and they’re excited to be here in Philadelphia filming. I can’t believe Bryan is 60, he looks great.

Also new to the cast
The Birth of a Nation actress Aja Naomi King has been cast in The Weinstein Company film Untouchable, joining Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston, Nicole Kidman, and Genevieve Angelson. Helmed by Neil Burger, the pic is a remake of the smash 2011 French film The Intouchables from Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache. (Deadline)

Aja Naomi King plays the mother of Kevin Hart’s son, played by Jahi Di’Allo Winston
who recently was in the New Edition movie, but he’s not listed in the IMDB yet for this Untouchable.

Wingbowl: Follow the Wings From P.J. Whelihan’s Pub To The Winner Pictorial

Wingbowl: Follow the Wings From P.J. Whelihan’s Pub To The Winner Pictorial

Good Tuesday. Oh I should have written this yesterday, but I had a chance to shoot the film set Untouchables with Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston. Great guys, best film set ever, so friendly. So glad to have a film back in town. Over the week I will share photos from the shoot, and head to another set this week for more stories. In the meantime, today I have this fun story. Originally I was going to forego the Wing Bowl this year as it’s a tough event because of the hours and vomit hazards. But P.J. Whelihan’s Pub approached me about a fun angle, following the wings. I always wondered about those wings …

Friday morning I got up early to photograph the Wing Bowl, specifically how the wings are made for the Wing Bowl. I knew they were by P.J. Whelihan’s Pub, but I always thought it was done at the Wells Fargo. BTW I love their wings, I was excited by the prospect of having a few myself.

P.J. Whelihan's

About 1AM the process of cooking 10,000 wings begins with Chef Terry Baily, Assistant Corp Chef at P.J. Whelihan’s Pub and Chef Rich Fredrick, Corporate Chef and Culinary Director at P.J. Whelihan’s Pub doing what they’ve been doing for 10 years, preparing the never frozen, honey/mild sauce wings; the same great recipe they serve at their restaurant ,

HD1_2820 (Custom)

but much smaller wings were used for the contest

P.J. Whelihan's

HD1_2821 (Custom)

so no judging them by their size. After the 10,000 wings were prepared, they’re prepared to go to the Wells Fargo Center for the
Wing Bowl.

HD1_2886 (Custom)
I had run into Allie Volpe, who was on an assignment for Thrillist, with Gab Bonghi (not pictured) at P.J. Whelihan’s. I gave them a ride to
Well’s Fargo, with this sweet girl Sarah Segal-Lazar , from Canada, who came down as she’s doing a documentary on competitive eaters. Anywho, we stopped at a Wawa on our way to share the joys with Sarah. While there we met other people on the way to the Wing Bowl.
